UPDATED DIFFERENCES IN THE FAMILY TREE CHALLENGE 2023
ahh, the differences in the family tree challenge or DITFT for short. this was, by far, one of my FAVORITE challenges to do when i still played the sims 4, alongside the disney legacy challenge and for the sims 3. the issue back then was that i could never finish generation one. now with my own lepacy following hix’s rules, i've been inspired and having a blast, but also don’t want to keep playing the same save and get bored! so what did i do? i decided to make a more updated DITFT challenge with a point system with the goal of wanting to get the most out of each generation, much like the completionist challenge.
the rules i am referencing/using are not mine. there are currently two sets of rules, one from 2010 which is the original challenge by angelofafallen and an updated version of that challenge, from the sims 3 forum website from 2012. now,  i haven’t changed too much but, but upon looking at the rules, it seemed that university, island paradise, seasons, and into the future were missing so that's been added!
the differences in the family tree challenge is essentially like the completionist challenge. you are taking each generation as a chance to explore each and every corner of the game and discover things you’ve never done before, hence why this and the completionist challenge are my favorite challenges by far. this challenge offers sixteen generations, but you can give or take a few if sixteen is too much for you. however, this has been expanded into TWENTY generations, but the total number being THIRTY SIX. HOLY CRAP! and that is including all the extra generational challenges. if that number is too much for you, then you can stick to the normal ten, or do however many gens you want!
FUN NOTE: you can spice this challenge up by randomizing each generation where you don’t go in the order of this challenge, so you may start out as a farmer, then end up a werewolf in the next generation, or begin as a resort owner, to living as a scientist in the next. the choice is yours! you can also choose to penalize yourself to make it a bit challenging and to kinda push you to reach the goals for each generation. really, its up to you!

GENERATION ONE: FARMER
GEN ONE GOALS:
grow a garden with every type of plant (excluding omniplant) +1 point
get married, but no woohoo before marriage +1 point
-1 point if you woohoo before you’re married
have a boy and girl and keep trying until you do! +1 point
1+ per kid, -1 point if you eat watermelons or apples to manipulate the gender, 0.5+ if you decide to adopt the gender you do not have
master the gardening skill +1
-1 point if you don’t master the gardening skill before your youngest is a young adult
OPTIONAL OBJECTIVES:
catch every type of fish 0.5+ point
marry a sim with the “loves the outdoors” and/or “green thumb” trait 0.5+ point
IF YOU HAVE PETS: adopt a riding horse, or a hunting dog 0.5+ point
GENERATION TWO: BUSINESS
GEN TWO GOALS:
reach level 10 of the business career +1 point
-1 point if you don’t reach level 10 before your child(ren) are young adults
get level 10 in the charisma skill +1 point
-1 point if you don’t reach level 10 before your child(ren) are young adults
get married, woohoo, and have kids +1 point
have at least one kid +1 point

OPTIONAL OBJECTIVES:

have over 50,000 in family funds +0.5 point

GENERATION TWO POINT FIVE: JOURNALISM

join the journalism career 1+ point

-1 point if you don’t reach level 10 before your child(ren) are young adults
reach level 10 of the writing skill
-1 point if you don’t reach level 10 before your child(ren) are young adults

GENERATION THREE: HEARTBREAKER
GEN THREE GOALS:
kiss six sims +1 point
be the lover to two sims, then break their hearts +1 point
get married and have kids with whoever you want +1 point

OPTIONAL OBJECTIVES:
have your spouse die on your lot (you can repeat the process up to three times) 0.5+ point

GENERATION THREE POINT FIVE: ADVENTURER (WORLD ADVENTURES)
GEN THREE POINT FIVE GOALS:
visit all locations +1 point
gain all vista levels +1 point
master the photography skill +1 point
master the martial arts skill +1 point
master the nectar making skill +1 point
-1 point for each skill you don’t master by the time your child(ren) are young adults
marry a local and have kids
-1 point if you don’t marry a local, +1 per kid
OPTIONAL OBJECTIVES:
finish all tombs +0.5 point
0.5+ point for every tomb you complete
GENERATION FOUR: WRITER
GEN FOUR GOALS:
master the writing skill 1+ point

-1 point if the skill is not mastered before your child(ren) are YA

-1 point if you don’t reach this goal before your child(ren) are YA, 0.5+ for each book you write
paint at least 20 paintings +1 point

The Little Legacy - Hiatus
When I first came back to TS4 I tried to jump right back into this gameplay but after 6 years of the Littles it’s honestly gotten stale. I’ve been really wanting to work on my writing again, and just don’t see me doing anything interesting with this family right now. I hope to pick them back up at some point in the future and see them through to generation 10, but for now it’s goodbye to the Littles!

Music bounces around the bar as Hex and Weathetly enter. A small crowd of sims huddle around a table in the corner, watching the new years countdown. The sun is setting soon, so there’s plenty of time to get lots of drinking and dancing in before the new year rolls in!
Hex hops up onto a bar stool, waving high to get the bartender’s attention. The sim before her looks so unimpressed when she places her order.
Hex: “Two ales, please - and a drink for yourself too!”
Molly: “Uhh…thanks. I’ll need juice if I have to deal with sims like you all night.”
Weatherly places a hand on Hex’s arm as she glares at the bartender, narrowing her eyes at her sarcastic comment. Hex takes a deep breath and smiles at her best friend to let him know that she’s okay. He releases his grip on her when he’s sure she won’t start a fight.
Molly Prescott slides the two glasses over to Hex and Weatherly. Hex pushes her simoleons close enough but just out of reach of Molly, trying to be petty in revenge for the sarcastic comment. Weatherly taps his glass against his best friend’s, drawing her attention back to him. 
Weatherly: “Cheers! Happy new year, Hexagon!”
