I usually go straight to drawing the thing I plan to draw, if you don’t count thumbnails. I always do thumbnails for comics and big artworks, but I probably should do some warmup sketches too. The thing is I can get distracted by them…

Since I don’t do warmup sketches, I have none to share, but I can’t leave you empty-handed, so here are some pieces of an old thing I can’t get my hands on to finally finish.

Yes! I always do warm-up sketches! Some of them stay sketches, some of them ended up with something kinda cool (´｡• ᵕ •｡`)

Here's one I did a few days ago! Warren Kole changed his Instagram pfp and with new hair and I was like-- "Graves woulda come back with that hair."

Might draw more Post-Campaign! Graves in the future. Always fun to draw him (๑˃ᴗ˂)ﻭ

yes I do!! most of the time they're just headshots or silly things.... like a good 70% of my more jokey art were originally warmup sketches that I decided to turn into actual WIPs and color

this Reno sketch from a couple days ago is usually what my warmup sketches look like! They take like 10 minutes or so? Maybe even faster if it's a character I draw a lot

I usually ask my friends for suggestions on what to do, which is why I have a bunch of Sukuna cat things that I still need to color (and Big Bro Sorcerer Sukuna things... but I'll get to them eventually)

for more serious sketches that I turn into thumbnails for paintings... I color grayscale, slap a gradient map on them, and paint over the sketch in certain areas so I don't forget what kind of palette/vibe that I wanted to go with! These usually take anywhere from 35 minutes to an hour? Depends on how much I'm struggling

I need to have things mostly planned out by the sketch stage or else I'll come back to it later like............... oh idk what I wanted to do here

I flip my canvas constantly lol so I'm good with right and left facing faces as long as they're around 3/4 view...... straight profile is a bit harder for me but manageable.... the true enemy is side profile </3

I'm actually really bad at remembering to do warmup sketches, I used to do them WAY more frequently... I ought to try and do them more honestly.

I'll show off some old rough sketches though! most of these were just quickly thrown onto a canvas before my brain forgot the idea/pose

(also... a good chunk of my wips aren't safe for tumblr posting if you catch my drift)

.... i hope people understand that i too sketch messily and often scrap 90% of it and redraw things over and over again

☕️ I don’t actually 😅 Well, I make sketches of what the final work is gonna be but I think thats what everyone does.

🙃 I think the classic three quarter face hahaha. if you look at my art you can tell thats my favourite angle.. frontal or tilted back or forwards is definitely the hardest!!

🦋oooooh I don’t know… I don’t think so? The only thing in my art that resembles me is the hands because I always use my own as reference when I try and draw more realistic hands hahaha

I began drawing Klaine because they captivated me from the beginning. I just wanted more of them. I didn’t have tumblr back then so I didn’t know there was more glee content online, so when the weekly episode was over and I needed more content, I just made it myself. I started drawing them kissing a lottt (also i was 12 so my art wasn’t that good hahah). It just felt so nice to have them as my muse. I just wanted to drown myself in their love. I also had so many ideas about them I just needed to get out! I’m so happy I started. I will love drawing them forever <33

Nah, I don't really do warm up sketches at this point. I used to draw in my sketchbook with ball point pen but I haven't done so in a while ^^'

Sometimes I'll treat doing a study as a warm up for working on commissions or bigger pieces of personal art.

But I'm not really serious enough for actual warming up, whatever happens happens is my attitude rn ^^'

I hope to get a bit more serious next year, with life in general

mmm usually i have an idea of what i want to do and i am impatient so i just jump right in! sometimes my initial sketches are so crappy that i just count them as "warmups" and draw over them until im satisfied, and sometimes (very rarely) i actually do thumbnails, but neither of those is really the same thing as doing proper warmups i think.

i did do this one back when i was trying to sort out ideas for my matm redraw tho?

and then i have these which i guess count as warmups? they weren't supposed to be but i was having a weird art day so they kinda ended up as warmups. might try recycling the poses for other stuff tho

📚 How many layers do you typically use?

ooh this kinda depends on how many elements are in the drawing but i tend to average at about 30 layers? but i'm guessing usually half of them aren't actually turned on in the final renders bc i save my sketch layers and i tend to duplicate my flat colours now. it's kind of unnecessary i guess but i get anxious about deleting layers that i think might come in handy later on even if i know they won't lol

between pieces, layer numbers are EXTREMELY inconsistent, but uh. i am NOT an organized artist. i don't name shit and CSP will crash at about layer 78 or so. which of course doesn't stop me from making layer 79, so- do not do that. do not be like me.

I don't really do just sketching, I mostly do the whole deal, when it comes to drawing. Sketching's a thing I have to practice, it would make my art a whole lot better composition/design wise.

I love warm colours, ahaha. Most of my doodles have a warm palette.

So-so, I love simplicity/minimalism, so most of my drawings have a very simple composition/background and few colours.

Sometimes! Depending on my mood it can evolve into a rough piece or it just. stays around. and I wonder why it looks like shit. I should really warm up properly tho cuz it just makes the sketch sesh so much cleaner
