There is yet another important variable in this sprawling equation, and it might be the most important one of all: the home theater experience. "Ultimately, the historical record of the film will not be seen in theaters, it will be what you see in your home theater," Karen Baker Landers says. "That's how most people see certain products. So you want it to be great."
For audio mixers, the theatrical mix comes first, followed by a streaming mix. Then, a stereo mix will often be created, funneling the full scope of the sound mix through just two simple speakers in a process Donald Sylvester likens to "taking a beautiful steak and dragging it through the dirt."
"A lot of people watch it on their flatscreen with their sound bar and they think it's going to be an improved sound situation, but it may not translate," says Sylvester:
"Some TVs take the 5.1 [surround sound mix] and they turn it into a stereo. They have algorithms inside the TV. It's not even our mix. We don't even know what it sounds like. I think a lot of tuners do that, if you have a receiver — I know they have algorithms, and they also put coloring on it, like 'cinema approach' that adds reflection and noise and stuff that you don't want in the mix. That's another problem. You don't know how it's being presented in the home."

Happy late birthday, Peg-Leg Pete, or actually Pete!
On February 15, 1925, as part of Alice Comedies and in the classic short called "Alice Solves the Puzzle", by the animators Ub Iwerks and Walt Disney, the first animated character appears within the Disney studio, which will also be the oldest Disney character ever . It's called Peg-Leg Pete or Pete for short. First he was a bear, then Steamboat Willie became a cat and the greatest archenemy of Mickey Mouse and his friends.
He often appears in classic shorts and clashes with Julius the cat, Oswald the rabbit and finally with Mickey Mouse. The comic strip "Mickey Mouse In Death Valley" published in 1930 by Floyd Gottfredson and Walt Disney first features Pete as well as Mickey, Minnie, Horace, Clarabelle, Sylvester Shyster and others. Later, Pete experienced great fame during the 1930s and early 1940s appearing as the nemesis of Mickey, Donald and Goofy. He also often kidnaps Minnie, Mickey's girlfriend, before. He is usually depicted as a thief, but in certain cases he is depicted as a boxer, a millionaire, a general, a pirate, a king, a terrible warlord, and other occupations. Billy Bletcher portrayed him best, later Will Ryan and Jim Cummings. In addition to the classic shorts, he is often featured in comics, mostly with his sidekick and partner Scuttle. In the Italian comics he is in love with Trudy Van Tubb, while in Goof Troop he is a manager and used car salesman and has his own family and is in love with his wife Peg. He has a son Pete Junior as well as a daughter Pistol, while in the Italian comics he has two nephews, Pierino and Pieretto. Depending on both animation and comics as well as video games, Pete is portrayed in different ways, but mostly he is an antagonist and a rival, as well as a villain. And yes, he's called Peg-Leg Pete, because one leg goes on one crutch.
To me, he is one of the best villains in the classic Disney universe, as well as the best characters, and now as always, the depiction of him through images of development and different interpretations through cartoons, video games and comics. Happy 99th birthday Pete and sorry for the delay!
If you love him and are a fan of Pete and his partners and his family, feel free to like and reblog this! Happy 99th birthday, Pete! And happy late Valentine's Day!

Question.
Considering that Cait is pretty much gone from SM, do you think it works in her favor acting wise or not?
She's probably busy now with The Amateur resuming filming but in general how do you see it?
Thanks for the questions, Anon. 😃
Do I think Caitríona’s limited social media use works in her favour, acting wise?
Tumblr media
Gifer
I think her limited use of social media is incidental, acting wise.
While she’s still a relatively small fish in a big pond, the quality of her performances, accolades from directors, colleagues, and critics, and her 19 award wins and 51 nominations (IMBd) make enough noise. Her name is listed among the nominees and winners of four of the five top acting awards.* She’s been nominated for a BAFTA, won one Scottish BAFTA and been nominated for another. She’s been nominated for five Golden Globe, three Critics Choice, and two Screen Actors Guild awards. (And has won an IFTA award and been nominated for eight others.)
Despite her not being nominated for an Academy Award, she, with Tony, represented Le Mans ’66 (Ford v. Ferrari) and Belfast at the 2020 and 2022 ceremonies, where the films won three Oscars in total.

You mentioned she’s currently busy filming (The) Amateur. Its star and executive producer, Rami Malek, is the 12th Oscar winner who’s shared film credits with Caitríona. The others are:
Sir Michael Caine (2)
Morgan Freeman
Jodie Foster (2)
Julia Roberts
George Clooney (2)
Matt Damon
Christian Bale
Andrew Buckland & Michael McCusker**
Donald Sylvester***
Dame Judi Dench
Sir Kenneth Branagh
She is and has been in good company.
Your second question, Anon, is how do I see it in general, Caitríona’s limited social media use?
I appreciate her limited use of social media. I imagine she fulfills contractual obligations and posts beyond that when the spirit moves her, but I get why she’s pulled back. Many actors who have the luxury of choosing not to use social media stay away from it. Some who choose to use it post only project-related, non-personal information. Her being cast in Outlander, and the show’s success, are gifts she cherishes, but they’ve come at a cost. We’ve seen where fans ignore reality and comment on her social media “direct from” Fantasy Island. Who needs that?
Tumblr media
Remember… if you're gonna ask people to pay money to come see you in a movie, they don't need to know your every thought all the time. I think there has to be some element of mystery. — George Clooney in Esquire

As a Republican who played a key role in trying to overturn the 2020 election results for former President Donald Trump was elected House speaker on Wednesday, a U.S. Capitol Police officer testified in federal court about the lingering impact of the brutal Jan. 6 attack perpetrated by a mob that believed those election lies.
U.S. Capitol Police Officer Caroline Edwards, the first officer seriously injured on Jan. 6, 2021, testified Wednesday afternoon in the bench trial of Ryan Samsel and four other Trump supporters. Samsel, who was carrying an enormous flag that featured Trump depicted as Rambo from the Sylvester Stallone films, is accused of pushing a metal bike rack into officers, causing Edwards to stumble back and hit her head and briefly black out.
The new Speaker of the House belongs in prison with the other convicted insurrectionists.

Source: San Bernardino Sun, 13 March 1987 by Donald Kaul
This review from 1987 is too funny and I love that he calls Valjean the student’s uncle but also, it’s too optimistic about American politics lol.
Save your McGovern buttons, folks; liberalism shall rise again. And soon. You can feel it. It's not merely that the air is going out of Ronald Reagan's balloon, it's that the times they are achangin'. Many liberals these days don't even bother with a secret handshake when greeting each other. Others have taken to openly advocating such controversial liberal ideas as public education, clean water and help for the homeless. You think I'm rushing it, don't you? Well, perhaps, but you'll have to forgive me. I've just seen "Les Miserables."
Perhaps you haven't heard about it yet? You will. "Les Miz," as we on the fast track call it, is the latest stage phenomenon to hit this country. It is a grandiose musical  — really more of an opera —  based on Victor Hugo's novel. Like the last such phenomenon, "Nicholas Nickleby," it comes from London, and like "NickNick" (fast track again), it is going to be a smash hit. It is a genuine, hand-tooled, gold-leafed, can't-miss, must-see show.
Overlooked in the hoopla of a hit, however, is the fact that it, again like "Nickleby," is a liberal show. Its story is the triumph of bleeding heart liberalism over hard-hearted conservatism. And people are going crazy for it.
"Rambo" is out; "Les Miz" and "Nick-Nick" are in.
"Les Miz" is the story of a poor Frenchman during Napoleanic [sic] times who steals a loaf of bread to feed his sister's starving child (which is, basically, the only reason liberals ever steal). He is caught and given 19 years in prison. Released from jail, Valjean is unable to get work because of his prison record, so he breaks parole and assumes a new identity. He is a great success in business and becomes mayor of a small town.
Valjean is pursued through the years by a cop, Javert, who wears black clothes and smiles only when he steps on a butterfly.
Javert keeps rediscovering Valjean and trying to arrest him, but the ex-con is too smart for him; he keeps slipping away. In the meantime, Valjean helps any widows and orphans he finds in his path. He is a sweetheart of a guy.
But does this cut any ice with Javert? Not a cube. He's determined that Valjean pay the price for breaking parole. He reminds one of Chief Justice William Rehnquist, actually. (If Valjean had been arrested for income tax evasion instead of stealing bread, they'd have probably let him off with a warning.)
Finally, or almost finally, Javert is captured by idealistic rebels during a student uprising and is delivered into the hands of Valjean, who is being a sort of uncle to the students. Javert, naturally, expects to be shot. Instead, Valjean does the liberal thing; he lets him go. Javert later has a chance to return the favor and does, but he feels so unhappy at having violated the conservative code of honor by helping a liberal that he commits suicide.
Anvway, it all ends happily. Valiean dies, but he goes to heaven, where all good liberals go. Javert is conspicuous by his absence.
It is a great snow, the night I saw it at the Kennedy Center, Washington's liberals clapped so hard I thought their jewelry was going to fly off.
The production is a return to the drama of the late 19th and early 20th century, before movies, when one of the things you went to the theater for was spectacle, crowd scenes, chariot races, waterfalls. The effects in "Les Miz" are magnificent. A pitched street battle with students and troops is reproduced on stage, then within moments we are in a Paris sewer with the escaping Valjean. The next minute we stay with Javert as he jumps from a bridge and plunges to his death.
As I said, it’s a great show and a harbinger of things to come. You still don't believe me? Listen: in his current film, Sylvester Stallone plays an arm-wrestler. Conservatism is being downsized. In his next film he'll probably play a social worker.
Remember, you read it here first.
