Bangor, Maine Goodwill - July 26th, 2023
First time taking my new cell phone into the thrift store, and boy was I rewarded! Bit of a long post, so please bear with me. Less-funny stuff goes below the cut.
"I squat. Please see back for details" - [blank back]
I only got the joke just now, as I'm making this post.
(The wearer's butt is proof that they squat.)
"Squat: because no one raps about little butts. #ClubFitWear"
Thrifty Thirsty items: "One thirsty B[price tag]" water bottle and "Stay thirsty, my friends TM" t-shirt (Dos Equis beer).
multiple Milwaukee [power tool brand] t-shirts in a few sizes.
Most just had the smaller logo on the back, but one had an additional slogan. "My tool lasts longer than your tool."
I bought that one, as a gift for a friend.
"Tunnel of Oppression" shirt with Custom Ink tag still attached.
UMaine did their installation in 2018/2019, but other colleges have had similar installations over the years.
"Ye Olde Timers Tournament" hockey shirt for UMaine's Alfond Arena. Design was just on the chest, to the side.
Shoegaze band tees: Turnover @turnoverva and Gleemer. The Gleemer shirt has the lyrics for their song "Cool Back".
Had left these behind but went back for them the next day.
Tiny plastic pig, glued to a rock, left in the crafts.
BeWaRe Halloween sign. Cute but too glittery for my tastes.
classic soup mugs with recipes
new stock, embossed metal lunch boxes: BFG and Big Bird
The 1993 Cows Cows Cows Calendar
I liked that June's image included a cat.
Soft-sculpture doll with… startling? embroidered eyes.
Idk, it just unnerved me.
"That's what she said" socks, from "The Office"
Giant, completed puzzle- a group photo of teddy bears
"Just another wine drinker with a scrapbooking problem"
More like a font abuse problem.
Bonus points for the K in "booking" being tipsy.
Not thrift, but this was the employee ID fob hanging in the car I scraped with my truck, as I was leaving the hospital.
"It's fine. I'm fine. Everything's fine."

If you told fifteen year old me who was crying while singing Disloyal Order in the shower, listening to Fall Out Boy and relating to so many of lyrics, especially the ones pertaining to loneliness, that I would end up being able to sing those songs live with my boyfriend holding my waist? I would not have believed you.
Pete Went walked around the seats and was fucking three feet away from me. They played The (After) Life of the Party and I like that song but I didn't expect to crumble hearing it live. Headfirst Slide is such a hard song and I made up a little dance to some of the lyrics. Being able to do that with the band who changed my life right in front of me made me so alive. I was able to reflect on who I have morphed in and out of while listening to this band in the background. It was amazing.

Calliope Mori and the Courage to Step Outside Your Comfort Zone
How much should we do what we’re good at vs. to what extent should we try to work on our weaker areas? And to what end? I’ve been contemplating these questions because of the Virtual Youtuber Calliope Mori.
There used to be an ad campaign in the 2000s for the beer Dos Equis featuring a charismatic older gentleman described as “The Most Interesting Man in the World.” The commercials would boast…
