#Dovewing's silence spoilers
the-owl-tree · 6 months
Note
did berryheart seriously get exiled because she spoke out against tigerstar. is that. is that why fr
we don't know all the details as the summary doesn't give us the specifics of the conversation (and it may be unreliable altogether. don't take my haranguing about the scene as fact lol im just ranting about hypotheticals) but we do know:
[big big big thunder spoilers under the cut. obviously]
-none of the other ShadowClan cats protest when Berryheart brings this up except for tigerheartstar's kin. i'm inclined against this as a misreading so i'm hoping we get more to this...
-the silence is interesting but it does read as both of them not having support to me. Berryheart doesn't seem to have enough vocal support to pass the code test (seventy five percent support according to the wiki's summary lol) from the sounds of it.
"Berryheart reaches the Great Oak with Whorlpelt, Snowbird and Yarrowleaf and says they have an announcement to make - they want Tigerstar removed from his position as leader of ShadowClan, to everyones shock. Sparrowtail looks at Berryheart with a satisfied expression and Sunbeam realizes he knew about this. All the ShadowClan cats remain silent and just glance down at their paws and nervously at each other except Shadowsight, who protests."
-Berryheart's issue is....with RiverClan and ShadowClan current occupation of it. We think. This is vague but quite frankly with the fact her foreshadowing to this moment was her agreeing with Sunbeam that she doesn't like ShadowClan in RC, I'm inclined to think this is what the issue is. I'm hoping that's it more because I would be REALLY disappointed if this is the case:
Berryheart rants about how Tigerstar only cares about RiverClan and Tigerstar defends himself and tries to reason with her.
-Puddleshine only agreed to it because he wanted to point out a ""flaw"" in this new addition that a leader could be overthrown for "one disagreement" to which.....okay. still bad. I don't like that one cat can take away this code addition's power. I wanted to see this part of the code in action where Tigerheartstar had to step back and see what his Clan wanted. What's the point of this code if Puddleshine or Tigerheartstar can just say "not good enough!" and overrule you?
-but like. i don't want to discount a cat being concerned with their Clans presence in another. Like once again, obnoxious Tigerheartstar defender here, but I don't like that this concern can be so easily shot down. Yeah yeah Berryheart is bad she's not saying this out of concern, she's saying it because she's a xenophobic bigot, but it's still such a weird major issue to present this conflict as the one where she gets taken down a peg. You know? i like when cats disagree with their leaders, i like that ShadowClan is apprehensive about what their leader is doing. It's good drama!
-maybe the issue will be that Berryheart's reasoning is shot down because the books acknowledge her as a violent bigot but we don't have enough info to gauge. From what it looks like, the conflict seems to be that she's bringing up her problems with RC. That bothers me, i don't like that. Hoping the scene sheds more light.
Berryheart tells him he has the support of Puddleshine too, who confesses to have agreed to support Berryheart. Berryheart, clearly enjoying this, tells Cloverfoot she needs to travel to the Moonpool to get her lives, but Puddleshine interrupts, saying he hadn’t finished. Eyes glowing, he tells Tigerstar he only agreed with Berryheart to show the Clans how easily the new part of the code can be exploited simply because of a disagreement over one decision.
-Dovewing suggests she goes elsewhere and well, it may be an official exile and it may be a "warning" that Berryheart took literally. We don't know what happened here, I think we need the actual scene to tell.
Berryheart is full of rage and hurt. Dovewing suggests she leaves and joins another Clan, but Berryheart says she’d rather live as a rogue first. Tigerstar says that is perhaps what she should do. Tigerstar asks her clique if they want to follow Berryheart in leaving but Whorlpelt, Snowbird and Yarrowleaf retreat back to their Clan.
yeah obviously berryheart has it coming but it does like the issue is that she's challenging sc being rc...but i'm really really really hoping there's more to it. we don't know if he throws her out for being a violent xenophobe or if the authors are doubling down on him being Big Bad. Here's to hoping the leaks (and me) are wrong and the books handle it better!
i just also find it a very underwhelming climax. the book is building to this big plan Berryheart has and then it's just uh *waves to the summary* this and we are on the fourth book it is too early for the triumphant everyone clapped moment where the big bad gets kicked. Hoping for more but We Will See.

A Documentation of Changes to the Allegiances
So everyone’s probably noted minute changes among the allegiances over the years, but this is here to compile a comprehensive list of changes either in Clan size, the presence or absence of ranks, which cats get descriptions (or even mentioned), how many Thunderclan (and in later arcs Shadowclan) cats from book one survive to the beginning of next arc’s book one, and so on.
This will be going by arc and skipping DotC because it’s not relevant to this conversation. I’ll also include Dovewing’s Silence and Bramblestar’s Storm, as they help cover the timeskip between OotS and AVOS (and were released while DotC was doing its thing).
Also spoilers for the entirety of The Broken Code and I will not be going into A Starless Clan’s changes in allegiances as as of this writing, we only have River out and the allegiances and first few chapters of Sky have not been revealed. Although once the final book of ASC comes out, I will reblog this post with updates to the allegiances.
Also as one final note, I am calling the “perma-queens” by a name that’s less stupid.
The Prophecies Begin
Into the Wild
Thunderclan population consists of 25 listed cats; when including kits and Rosetail, that bumps it up to 33 cats (and of those 33 cats, only 13 of them will survive to TNP)
Famously, Shadowclan has a paltry amount of members, and you can count Windclan and Riverclan’s listed cast on one hand. Shadowclan apprentices do not have descriptions.
Also famously, there are four queens listed, though from inference and semi-retcons, Frostfur, Goldenflower, and Speckletail are the only cats who actually have kits. Brindleface at the beginning of Into the Wild shouldn’t even be pregnant, as the book takes place over the span of three months and, while they’re apprenticed late, it’d be ludicrous to assume they’re born in mid-summer and then apprenticed the spring afterward. If one were to be remaking the allegiances of Into the Wild with more modern philosophies of listing, Brindleface would be a warrior.
Longtail is described as a young warrior, having finished is training two moons ago. While Mousefur and Runningwind are also young warriors, they’re young warriors in the same way Stonefur and Mistyfoot are. Despite this, Longtail is listed above Mousefur and Runningwind.
Fire and Ice
Windclan and Riverclan’s numbers match the paltry amount of cats within Shadowclan. Again, no apprentice section or descriptions given to said apprentices. Is Brownpaw brown? Is Silverpaw silver? The world may never know...
Forest of Secrets
Upon being promoted to warriors, Dustpelt and Sandstorm are placed at the bottom of the warriors list. Also Cinderpelt is listed as Yellowfang’s apprentice despite the fact she has her full name. Despite all of Frostfur’s kits being apprenticed, she’s still listed as a queen.
Crowfur of Windclan and Greenflower of Riverclan made appearances, but were not listed in the allegiances.
Rising Storm
Mindbogglingly, upon Brackenfur’s promotion to warrior status, he’s placed above Dustpelt and Sandstorm. Willowpelt has also moved into the nursery and despite Brindleface’s kits being apprenticed, she’s still listed as a queen.
A Dangerous Path
Frostfur and Brindleface have been moved to the warriors section, between Darkstripe and Longtail.
The Darkest Hour
Goldenflower has left the nursery, but is at the bottom of the warriors section, when if it was sorted by age, she’d be at the top of the list. Frostfur is just above her and the new warrior Cloudtail is beneath the both of them.
Despite being siblings with top-of-the-list Thornpaw, Brightheart (listed as Lostface in the allegiances) is at the bottom of the apprentices section.
The New Prophecy
Midnight
Thunderclan’s population consists of 26 listed cats; when including Ferncloud’s unlisted kits, that bumps it up to 29 cats. Of the 29 cats, 19 will survive to Po3.
Goldenflower has moved back into the nursery, despite not being pregnant with or nursing kits of her own. In a similar vein, Ferncloud has become a matriarch of Thunderclan and has never appeared as a warrior.
Crowpaw is the only non-Thunderclan apprentice with a given description, which is justified in that he’s a major character.
Mothwing is listed as Mudfur’s apprentice, which at least makes sense in the context that she trained as a warrior first and then became a medicine cat.
Moonrise
Nothing special here
Dawn
Applekit, Toadkit, and Marshkit of Shadowclan, Gorsetail of Windclan and Tumblekit of Riverclan made appearances, but were not listed in the allegiances.
This is the book I somewhat consider “Eclipse Lite” due to its inclusion of a bunch of random new cats from other Clans. Nightwing of Shadowclan, Robinwing, Thistlepaw, and Oatwhisker of Windclan, and Swallowtail, Dawnflower, Volepaw, Splashpaw, and Stonepaw of Riverclan all spontaneously appear.
Aside from Cats Outside the Clans, Midnight the Badger features in a new category called “Other Animals”.
Starlight
Spiderpaw has spontaneously dropped beneath Whitepaw despite being older than her.
Despite dying on-page last book from gravity and rocks, Smokepaw of Shadowclan still appears as Oakfur’s apprentice until the end of the arc.
Darkfoot and Nightcloud of Windclan made appearances, but were not listed in the allegiances.
Twilight
Despite having earned her full name, Leafpool is still listed as an apprentice.
Despite dying on-page last book from aggressive kittypets, Talonpaw of Shadowclan still appears as Rowanclaw’s apprentice.
Tumblekit of Riverclan made an appearance, but was not listed in the allegiances.
The Cats Outside the Clans section has been renamed to Other Animals to account for the very not cats Midnight the Badger and Pip the Terrier alongside the barn cats Smoky, Daisy, and Floss.
Sunset
Daisy has joined Thunderclan as a matriarch.
Daisy’s kits and Sorreltail’s kits are not listed in the allegiances at all.
Ferncloud is still listed as “mother of Dustpelt’s kits” despite Birchpaw being an apprentice and she likely not yet being pregnant with Icekit and Foxkit.
Tallpoppy is listed as a queen despite her kits being (what’s implied to be) Birchpaw’s age. I’ll elaborate more in the next entry.
Power of Three
The Sight
Thunderclan’s population consists of 32 listed cats. However I’m not going to count Stormfur and Brook since they’re only staying in the Clans as refugees so that bumps it down to 30 cats. Graystripe and Millie joins Thunderclan in this book, so that bumps Thunderclan’s headcount back up to 32. Molepaw, Rainwhisker, and Goldenflower have also conspicuously disappeared between arcs. Anyway, on the 32 cats I’m actually counting, the only deaths this arc are of Honeyfern and Ashfur and Hollyleaf famously gets put on a bus by the end of the arc.
Finally kittens are listed alongside their mothers in the nursery! At least only for Thunderclan.
Apprentices of other Clans still are not given descriptions and kittens of other Clans are still entirely unknown.
A noteworthy absence of Tallpoppy’s kits: Applepaw and Toadpaw. They’re described as close to Birchpaw in age, who’s a warrior named Birchfall now. Why aren’t they listed?
Similarly, the hilarious error of Smokefoot featuring in Shadowclan. Sure, this technically is a different cat than TNP’s dead apprentice (who’s dark gray, not black like Smokefoot), and while it’s not unheard of for two cats with the same prefix to be in the same Clan at once (Mousewhisker and Mousefur, Silverpaw and Silverstream, Lizardfang and Lizardstripe, etc), it still insinuates the idea that the Erins forgot Smokepaw died and made him a warrior.
Dark River
After moving out of the nursery, Squirrelflight is placed at the top of the warriors section. Likewise, Graystripe and Millie are placed at the bottom of the list.
Icekit and Foxkit are given descriptions!
Tawnypelt of Shadowclan, Gorsetail of Windclan (different cat than the earlier one), and Graymist of Riverclan have named kittens listed after them, but unlike Icekit and Foxkit, they’re not described.
Dawnflower of Riverclan remains in the nursery after her kits’ are made apprentices despite never mothering another litter in the future. Mayhaps she’s a matriarch herself?
Outcast
A wild Toadfoot is spotted in Shadowclan! Where’s his sister tho? Also Tawnypelt’s kits have disappeared.
Icewing has had her kits! And sadly, Dawnflower has returned to her warrior duties. Mayhaps she wasn’t a matriarch after all...
Eclipse
Oh boy, here’s the big one! This is the book that adds a bunch of brand-new warriors into all the Clans! All of them are placed beneath the previously established warriors, which ends up with the canonically older Ratscar beneath the young warrior Toadfoot. Here are the new additions:
Crowfrost, Kinkfur, Ratscar, Snaketail, Whitewater, Olivepaw, Shrewpaw, Scorchpaw, and Redpaw of Shadowclan
Leaftail, Dewspots, Willowclaw, Antpelt, Emberfoot, and Sunpaw of Windclan
Mintfur, Otterheart, Pinefur, Rainstorm, Duskfur, Nettlepaw, Robinpaw, and Copperpaw of Riverclan
Long Shadows
Cinderheart, Poppyfrost, and Honeyfern are listed beneath Lionblaze and Hollyleaf despite being older than and (at least for Honey and Poppy) made warriors before them.
Gorsetail returns to her warrior duties, situated between Nightcloud and Weaselfur. Likewise, Graymist returns to being a warrior herself, and she’s moved to between Rippletail and Dawnflower.
Willowshine has received her full name, yet is still listed as Mothwing’s apprentice.
Sunrise
A funny error has Jayfeather listed as Leafpool’s apprentice and he doesn’t feature in the apprentice section.
Apprentices from other Clans are finally given appearances! Still nothing on kittens though.
Omen of the Stars
The Fourth Apprentice
Thunderclan’s current headcount includes 36 cats (37 including the forgotten Millie). By the end of The Last Hope, six cats have died and seven new kits have been born. However, if we also include Dovewing’s Silence, Bramblestar’s Storm, and the ensuing timeskip, by the time The Apprentice’s Quest starts up, four other cats (not counting Seedpaw, whose entire life is within this timespan) die and five other kittens are born, plus Stormcloud joins.
OotS is a right mess.
Anyway, OotS starts with 37 cats and ends it with 38 cats, but only 26 cats from the beginning of OotS live to see the dawn of AVoS.
Upon being removed from her position as medicine cat, Leafpool has been placed right next to her sister Squirrelflight in the warriors section, somewhere midway through the list, between Thornclaw and Spiderleg. Graystripe has been moved to the top of the warriors section too.
Oh, there you are, Applefur, right next to your brother! Also Thistleheart of Windclan went missing.
The non-Thunderclan apprentices and kits from Po3 graduated into warriors during the timeskip and they’ve all been moved to the bottom of the list.
Flametail is listed as Littlecloud’s apprentice despite being a full medicine cat just like Willowshine.
Snowbird returns to her warrior duties after mothering her first litter (who never appears, but for the people taking notes, it’s Cloverfoot, Berryheart, and Buster/Rippletail ShC) and she’s placed below her retconned brother Ratscar.
Dapplenose and Pouncetail of Riverclan have moved into the elders’ den despite appearing as apprentices in The Sight and becoming warriors in Outcast.
Likewise, Duskfur and Mosspelt sit in the nursery for quite a while. While Duskfur apparently has Podkit and Curlkit during this time, as they feature in Mistystar’s Omen, but Mosspelt never has another litter after Willowshine, so what’s she doing there?
Speaking of the Riverclan nursery, Icewing is placed between Mintfur and Minnowtail in the middle of the list, now that three of her four kittens are warriors.
Fading Echoes
Upon returning to her warrior duties, Whitewing is placed below her (younger) mate Birchfall.
Kinkfur’s been sitting in the nursery for a while. Again, our look into the nursery is haphazard, but later books confirm her kittens to be Sparrowtail, Mistcloud, and Dewkit.
Night Whispers
Nothing special here
Sign of the Moon
Nothing special here
The Forgotten Warrior
Dovewing and Ivypool of Thunderclan and Pinenose, Ferretclaw, and Starlingwing of Shadowclan have become warriors and have been moved to the bottom of their respective lists.
Despite being made a warrior last book, Troutstream of Riverclan is still listed as an apprentice.
The Last Hope
Despite being Lionblaze’s sister, Hollyleaf is placed at the bottom of the warriors list.
Ivytail of Shadowclan has been a queen this entire arc, yet has not made any kits. Either she’s something like a matriarch or she has (off-page) kittens who die before or during the Great Battle. In her next appearances in Dovewing’s Silence and Bramblestar’s storm, she’s an elder.
Weaselkit is mentioned as Pinenose’s kit, but considering she literally just became a queen and not a lot of time occurs between her promotion and this kit dying, I’m unconvinced it’s Pinenose’s.
Stoatpaw of Shadowclan is a ginger tom who shows up in the book, but is never listed in the allegiances.
Despite being made warriors last book, Furzepelt of Windclan, and Mossyfoot and Hollowflight of Riverclan are still listed as apprentices. Likewise, Boulderfur features as a warrior, yet is still listed as an apprentice.
Dovewing’s Silence
Poppyfrost is misplaced towards the bottom of the warriors list after Molepaw and Cherrypaw are apprenticed.
Brightheart is supposed to be nursing Snowkit, Amberkit, and Dewkit, but she’s not in the nursery and the kits aren’t present.
Whiskernose of Windclan and Rushtail of Riverclan are never warriors. Well, technically they were, but as far as allegiances go, they were never warriors. Whiskernose and Rushtail became warriors in Sign of the Moon, yet were never listed as such in the allegiances. They both retire to elders here.
Pouncetail, Grasspaw, and Spikepaw (and Stoatfur but we’ll get to them later) of Shadowclan, Crouchfoot, Larkwing, Slightpaw, Featherpaw, Hootpaw, and Oatpaw of Windclan, and Shimmerpelt, Lakeheart, Heronwing, Lizardpaw, Havenpaw, and Perchpaw of Riverclan all spawn out of nowhere. Have another Eclipse Lite group.
Funnily enough, despite Larkwing and Featherpaw supposedly being Sedgewhisker’s children, she’s still in the nursery.
Willowshine is finally no longer listed as Mothwing’s apprentice.
Bramblestar’s Storm
Stoatfur of Shadowclan is a tortoiseshell and white molly who helps Thunderclan fight the badgers. Wake up, everybody, we got Rowanclaw 2.0 here, but now they have a completely different appearance! Problem is, in Dovewing’s Silence, they’re a tortoiseshell molly and in Crowfeather’s Trial, they’re a ginger tom, so who knows what they really look like? They only exist for this tiny timeskip era, so who knows?
A Vision of Shadows
The Apprentice’s Quest
This marks a few substantial changes to the allegiances: 1) The introduction of Skyclan into the other four Clans, 2) the introduction of more permanent non-Thunderclan POVs which will enable me to add Shadowclan to our population statistics, and 3) the death of the apprentice section of the allegiances. I assume this last one was due to the new management. Some fun occurrences happen because of this style of listing.
Thunderclan starts out the arc with 41 cats. 8 of these 41 cats don’t make it to see TBC. In the meantime, Blossomfall has a litter of four, Ivypool has her three kits, and Lionblaze decides to saturate the clan even further with his genes by having three more kits, giving ten additional cats. Adding in Twigbranch and Finleap and removing Dovewing, that leaves us with 44 cats by the end of the arc.
Next up to the chopping block bat is Shadowclan, starting the arc out with 31 cats, 17 of which will not make it to TBC, leaving only 14 cats who did. Grassheart’s litter of three, Snowbird’s third litter of three, Dovewing’s litter of three, Berryheart’s second litter of three, and Yarrowleaf’s litter of two, plus the three Guardian cats (and his girlfriend) Tigerheart brought back to Shadowclan with him helps boost that number back up to 32.
The apprentices (and unseen kits) from Thunderclan, Windclan, and Riverclan have become warriors and are placed neatly at the bottom of the warriors list. Take note because this is probably the last time this will happen so neatly.
Oddly enough, Shadowclan’s apprentices lack descriptions. So do Riverclan’s kits. Weird.
Thunder and Shadow
Larkwing is listed as the apprentice of Furzepelt, when she was a warrior last book and during the timeskip.
Also I’m going to be ignoring the mess that will be Shadowclan and Skyclan for the next few books because it’s just tangled and gross and I don’t wanna bother.
Shattered Sky
Despite being made a warrior before Lilyheart’s litter, Sparkpelt is listed below Larkfur, Leafshade, and Honeyfur. Speaking of Lilyheart, she’s been relocated to Blossomfall’s old spot, between Briarlight and Bumblestripe, instead of her original position between Molewhisker and Snowbush.
After moving out of the nursery, Heathertail is placed at the bottom of the warriors list.
Shadepelt and Foxnose are now warriors, but instead of being put at the bottom of the list, they’re just minorly edited with their warrior names. Likewise, Icewing is put at the bottom of the list after returning to her warrior duties.
Darkest Night
Breezepelt is oddly placed at the top of the allegiances.
After her kittens become apprentices, Lakeheart just disappears. Forever. Where has she gone off to? What do her still surviving children, Harelight and Gorseclaw think about it?
River of Fire
Fernstripe of Windclan becomes a warrior and, probably due to being the deputy’s apprentice, she’s put at the bottom of the list.
The Raging Storm
A lot of queens have their kittens apprenticed: Blossomfall, Cinderheart, Snowbird, and Tinycloud. All four of them are placed right at the bottom of their respective warrior lists.
The Broken Code
Lost Stars
Ah yes, the arc that could’ve wiped out a good chunk of the established cast, yet only took care of- *checks notes of all five Clans*
Thunderclan lost five cats and two others were put on a bus, plus three litters (yes, three, I’ll get to that later) brought the number back up by seven, so we’re back to square one with the number of Thunderclan cats: 48 at the beginning and end of the arc. Great.
So Shadowclan has 32 cats starting out, four of them die and there are no births in this arc, leaving us with 28 cats.
Skyclan starts off the arc with 33 cats, but I just noticed Cloudmist and Cherrytail are suspiciously absent from the list, so that’s actually 35 cats. Only Sandynose died that entire time and we get Beekit and Beetlekit in addition, leaving us with 36 cats total.
Windclan starts off with 25 cats, and loses one of them. Great job, Windclan.
Last up to bat, Riverclan starts off with 27 cats, gains three more, and loses three of them, sustaining equilibrium at 27 cats.
Regarding the placements of these cats, everything seems way more haphazard. Take Blossomfall’s kits: Stemleaf is placed below Rosepetal, matching the pattern of being lazy with new warriors, while Eaglewing maintains her position above Dewnose, and Shellfur and Plumstone, mentored by cats farther up the list, are placed right beside each other at the bottom. On a similar note, Cinderheart, Blossomfall, and Ivypool have been rocketed up to somewhere in the middle of the list, while Spotfur, Snaptooth, and Flywhisker are kept neat and tidy at the bottom of the list with Leafshade being dragged down there when she was a little further up the list. It’s really strange, very cluttered, and it’s like the new team is scrambling up a Rubix cube to keep us on our toes.
At least Shadowclan and Skyclan are faring better as their new apprentice generations are all grouped together at the bottom of the list, but keep an eye on Flaxpaw and Hoppaw and Kitepaw and Turtlepaw. Windclan had no apprentice generation to speak of and while Riverclan had its young cats put at the bottom, you still got Breezeheart and Nightsky mixed in with Lakeheart’s litter.
The Silent Thaw
Sorrelstripe and Sparkpelt moved out of the nursery and they were thrown in a random spot! Also note the placement of Ivypool’s litter; they’re all situated right beneath their mentors.
Ah yep. Flaxfoot, Hopwhisker, Kitescratch, and Turtlecrawl all were just edited to have their warrior names and remained under their mentors instead of put at the bottom of the list.
Violetshine and Bellaleaf moved out of the nursery, and they were thrown somewhere. Same goes for Heathertail, but Featherpelt and Havenpelt got stuck at the bottom of the list again.
Again with Riverclan kits being vague and often unhelpful; Curlfeather’s kits just list their genders and not their names, which is odd. Lakeheart’s kits just listed their names and Havenpelt’s kits had proper descriptions. This is a first.
Veil of Shadows
These lists are practically identical save for one or two dead cats and also Havenpelt moved up towards the top of the Riverclan warriors list for some reason. But really. In five highly overpopulated Clans in an arc stressed with tension, why are there no bodies dropping.
Darkness Within
Squirrelflight and Lionblaze are the acting leader and deputy of the Clan so far, and Rootspring is just edited to stay below Dewspring while Needleclaw got zipped up next to his spot. Also the editors remembered Cherrytail and Cloudmist exist, finally. Featherpelt also jumps up the list a fair bit for some reason.
The Place of No Stars
Lemme guess, just a birth? Okay, Appleshine and Woodsong became warriors and they’re put underneath their mentors, look at that. Where are the dropping bodies?
A Light in the Mist
So upon being removed from acting deputy, Lionblaze is placed at the bottom of the warriors list. And even though this is the next book, Wrenflight, Songleap, and Splashtail are once again just edited beneath their mentors to have a warrior entry and not moved to the bottom of the list.
So about Spotfur’s kits, she gives birth at the end of Daisy’s Kin which is co-current with and released alongside The Place of No Stars, so why they weren’t listed in A Light in the Mist?
In Conclusion
The allegiances barely stook to any rules and that’s what made it this giant cesspool of gobbledygook to begin with.
Over the course of the series existing, queens were a more and more temporary rank and the extremely old Daisy is the only matriarch around anymore, newly-named warriors are either placed at the bottom of the list or right below their mentor, the kits are usually described, every apprentice-aged cat and older is given a description regardless of Clan status, and the apprentice section has been done away with. While I wouldn’t call TPB’s cat sorting perfect when it comes to sorting by age, by the time Po3 and OotS rolled around, Thunderclan cats were more or less arranged in the order of birth. The other Clans unfortunately had to play more fast and loose.
If I were the madlass assigned to fixing these lists, I’d do what any sensible creature with more than three functioning braincells would do: list the cats by age and put them back where you got em from if they left the warriors list for a while. This also counts for elders and queens; I’d sort the queens by age and put the oldest queen on top, even if there was a younger queen who has older kits. For cats who jump Clans, just stick em with the cats who are around the same age as them (kind of hard to do that when Ferretclaw’s nowhere to be found and your Clan’s full of younger people).
So anyway, I’ve been slaving away at this for the past nine hours with barely any breaks and what I thought would’ve taken me only part of a morning and afternoon took me most of my day, so I’m gonna do more imparative things on my agenda, finally relieved I got this off my chest.
Last note, I encourage you to compare the allegiances of Bramblestar’s Storm and Crowfeather’s Trial, as they highlight the differences between the highly optimal Po3/OotS philosophy of sorting and the extremely lazy AVOS and onward philosophy.

Gray Wing’s Passage
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you have been scrolling at all recently through any Warrior Cat based Social Media or just looking through the fandom in general, you have probably noticed a reoccurring theme. Most influencers in this fandom and even your average artists and writers have been creating artwork, stories, videos and more celebrating the 20th anniversary of Warriors. As of 2023, Warrior Cats is officially 20 years old with the first book ever of the series “Into the Wild” being published January 21, 2003. In that span of time, 6 other arcs; The New Prophecy, Power of Three, Omen of the Stars, Vision of Shadows, The Broken Code and A Starless Clan have been written and released. Similarly countless super editions such as Firestar’s Quest, Skyclan’s Destiny, Yellowfang’s Secret, Tallstar’s Revenge, Crookedstar’s Promise, Bluestar’s Prophecy, Moth Flight’s Vision, Hawkwing’s Journey, Crowfeather’s Trial, Squirrelflight’s Hope, Leopardstar’s Honor, Onestar’s Confession and many more have been published. Countless novellas also, such as Redtail’s Debt, Tree’s Roots, Leafpool’s Wish, Spottedleaf’s Heart, Pinestar’s Choice, Goosefeather’s Curse, Mapleshade’s Vengeance, Tawnypelt’s Clan, Ravenpaw’s Farewell, Dovewing’s Silence, Hollyleaf’s Story have been written. You may have noticed however that I am leaving out an entire section of Warriors books, having to do with the clans’ history. Don’t fret! I haven’t forgotten and in fact, that arc and subsequent stories are the topic of the piece above.
For those unfamiliar, alongside the main series arc, the Erins published another arc that is considered to be a sequel to the main series. This set of 6 books aimed to tie up missing threads about the clans’ history and was the first books (other than field guides) to speak of the clans origin. The arc I’m hinting to is the ‘Dawn of the Clans’ arc. The first DOTC book, The Sun Trial, was released March 5, 2013, and followed a protagonist never before mentioned in previous books. This protagonist is actually the subject of the piece above; his name is Gray Wing. For context, I will give a quick summary of Gray Wing’s backstory and personality. ⚠️ Spoilers ahead for DOTC and similar novellas and super editions along with some of the field guides ⚠️ According to the Warriors Wiki, “Gray Wing was a member of Windstar's camp in the forest territories. He was born in the Ancient Tribe to Quiet Rain alongside his brother, Clear Sky. When Half Moon spoke of a new home, Gray Wing chose to stay behind; however, after his younger brother Jagged Peak left to follow the group, Gray Wing joined them on the journey. He stayed with Shadowstar's group on the moor and adopted his brother's orphaned son, Thunder. Realizing his brother had changed, Gray Wing cut ties with Clear Sky. Gray Wing and Turtle Tail became mates and he adopted her kits, Sparrow Fur, Pebble Heart, and Owl Eyes. Gray Wing was chosen to lead the group after Tall Shadow, though he decided to co-lead with her following his asthma he developed from a fire. Gray Wing eventually stepped down leading the group following a battle with Clear Sky, and mourned Turtle Tail's death deeply. He helped defeat One Eye and Slash by drawing out battlestrategies, and once his mother died, he left the pines to the moor and became mates with Slate, who had his kits, Black Ear, White Tail, and Silver Stripe. Due to his asthma, Gray Wing passed away after renaming the group to Clans. He ascended to StarClan, watching over his kin, and gave Windstar, Thunderstar, and Blackstar one of their nine lives.”
The scene depicted above, which actually has a speedpaint on YouTube (if you are interested, you can find the link here) was commissioned by a user called TheHeatRush on YouTube. It portrays Gray Wing’s passage to Starclan after his untimely death due to asthma. Honestly, Gray Wing’s death was extremely tragic as not only did he leave his mate who recently had his kits; he also left his brothers, nieces, nephews and adopted children behind. It’s kinda strange actually, as Warriors has kinda a questionable history with adoptions. In POT, when it is revealed that Squirrelflight adopted her sister’s kits, she is treated with disgust and hatred by most of the cats closet to her. Adoption in the main series is almost treated as being taboo and strange, with Thunder preferring to go with his biological father despite he [his father] abandoning Thunder at a young age. But, me and the rest of the team would love to know YOUR thoughts on this matter! Can you believe that Warriors is 20? What’s your opinion on the DOTC arc? What’s your thoughts on Gray Wing? Do you think this series treats adoption correctly? Leave all your thoughts, opinions and feedback in the comments below. Did you like the art style of this piece? If you did, consider leaving a like on the original post on Amino. Supporting the original artist directly benefits this account! This is by motivating more creators to allow us post their work which gives us more content to share with you all. On a similar note, do you want more Warriors centered content? I would recommend joining the Warriors Amino where we have a fun and active community that creates art, writing and more based on the battle cats you know and love!

I feel like the Erins don't know how to handle cats once their arcs are done. What are some cats that you wish had more potential in the books?
this is like putting a kid in a candy shop and giving them a credit card. lord. i'm just listing characters here, not necessarily my detailed problems with them. feel free to ask for more details, i just don't want to ramble on about one and not list the rest.
off the top of my head, moving (roughly) chronologically...
goldenflower. the fact that we didn't get a death scene for her is just cruel. i have a lot of thoughts.
frostfur. she's excusable, as she was a background character, but still.
stormfur. now, i haven't read any of the super editions or novellas with him in it, but as a pov character, he deserves a main arc wrap up, and i don't think he got that.
tawnypelt. i haven't read her novella, but i have read the summary, and i don't think that did a good job for her either. girl left her clan to join her evil father she felt so isolated, she deserved a super edition.
squirrelflight. i mean it feels like cheating, but yeah. maybe alitm will help? tpons didn't give me everything i wanted, but it was better than it could have been. barely.
breezepelt. i refuse to read crowfeather's trial. breezepelt. fucking breezepelt.
leafpool. yeah! no. she did not. she deserved better than leafpool's wish.
lionblaze. i. have a lot of feelings. i like fanon lionblaze quite a lot, because he gets proper development.
half moon. i know she's not a big deal...but i don't like how it went down with her. she's so pretty too.
minnowtail. no. tell me what happened to her, erin. i need to know. why is she so pretty. is she going to be the next leader of riverclan? she should be the next leader of riverclan. (i also want to say i held this opinion pre-moonkitti. i thought her name was cute.)
berrynose, poppyfrost, and honeyfern. lumping 'em together for an obvious reason.
briarlight. all that and she dies of fucking belly-sickness? i mean damn, it was good for jayfeather's character, but you didn't have to do her dirty like that good lord.
dovewing. character arcs for pov (major pov) characters shouldn't be completed in side stories. not allowed.
half credit, but kind of ivypool. i. it's complicated. i don't think putting her front and center any longer was a good idea, and we get the general idea that she's healing, but because her arc is tied to dovewing's, and dovewing's is messed up from dovewing's silence, she suffers.
sparkpelt. i don't know what's going on in her life but she deserved better.
twigbranch. i just. i don't know. i do like her name though, fight me.
violetshine. god. uh, you know? she had blistering potential. she's the only significant part of avos i remember, did you know that? every single ounce of avos i remember is pure violetshine. she deserved more.
and now we're on the current arc, so this is definitely cheating, but it doesn't look like the current pov 3 (i wish we didn't have po3 because then that could be a pov3 acronym) is going to get a satisfying wrap-up. i'm not feeling it.
WILLOWSHINE. (minor spoilers for multiple current and/or upcoming projects.) i didn't forget about her i just saved her to the end because honestly using her death as a prop was cruel. like. okay, narratively, it had to happen. i came to that conclusion before reading tpons, like, it had to happen, and it had to be willowshine, but. using her death the way they did is just cruel. there's so much unexplored character and they just. didn't care. god. i'm sorry, willowbaby. you deserved better.

forgot to update this, so I've just read some novellas I've never read before: (spoilers for Tigerclaw's Fury, Leafpool's Wish and Dovewing's Silence)
Tigerclaw's Fury - it was okay! it was interesting reading from his pov, but it was also quite boring as well if I'm being honest. one thing I realised is how much I love Runningnose and Blackstar. I loved the beginning scene where Tigerclaw got kicked out of ThunderClan, I had always wanted to read that in his pov! overall, 7/10 for me!
Leafpool's Wish - I cried?? idk why. I thought it was so sweet, and I honestly thought I would hate it. I got thrown off it when they guilt tripped Squilf to take the kits, but other than that I loved it??? I have nothing really else to add, other than I almost cried when Jaykit asked if he could be cured of his blindness because Leafpool is a medicine cat. imma give this one a 8/10!
Dovewing's Silence - OH MY GOD. I don't think I've ever cried as much at a story as that. what a moving story!!! it had so much pain? and love? and hope? and purdy? I LOVED that scene where they carried Firestar's body to his burial and Millie whispers: "We were born as kittypets, but look at us now, my precious friend." let me tell you I BAWLED. even re-reading that sentence now just makes my eyes water, what a touching scene. and the shock at Sorreltail's death? heartbreaking. Foxleap's death, too, and Dovewing can just hear Jayfeather shout: "Foxleap, no! Not now! I've done everything I could! Oh StarClan, why can't you let me help these cats?" this just broke me. it's such an emotional novella and is truly beautiful in some parts, so I'll give it a 9/10 to cut this short!
thank you for reading if you have gotten this far! I truly recommend these!

random but UUUH whered u get that cool pic of all the warriors books, where u kinda can cross of which ones u have? because this is like super handy hwhdjend thank for taking thr time reading this please have a nice day
Here you go! It’s built in part from one I found online that was out of date and separated the novellas and their collected editions into different slots which annoyed me.
Note: this is not in reading or chronological order. You definitely have to read the SkyClan super edition books and comics before you read the aVoS Arc, you definitely shouldn’t read some of the novellas before the books that they spoil, and you definitely shouldn’t read Yellowfang’s Secret cause it sucks.
Tumblr media
Recommended reading order:Warriors- The Prophecies Begin Book 1: Into the Wild Book 2: Fire and Ice Book 3: Forest of Secrets Book 4: The Rising Storm Book 5: A Dangerous Path Book 6: The Darkest Hour Super Edition: Firestar’s Quest Manga: Ravenpaw’s Path (Three books) Super Edition: SkyClan’s Destiny Warriors- The New Prophecy Book 1: Midnight Book 2: Moonrise Book 3: Dawn Manga: Tigerstar and Sasha (Three books) Book 4: Starlight Book 5: Twilight Book 6: Sunset Manga: Winds of Change Warriors- The Power of Three Book 1: The Sight Manga: Graystripe’s Adventure (Three books) Book 2: The Dark River Book 3: Outcast Book 4: Eclipse Book 5: Long Shadows (NOTE: a character named Brightspirit and her parents appear in this book who seem like they are going to be very important. They are actually a one-time tribute to a girl who was a big Warriors fan and her family who died in a tornado in 2008. Its weird and confusing if you don’t know that.) Book 6: Sunrise Novella: Leafpool’s Wish Manga: SkyClan and the Stranger (Three books)
Ok so next are a bunch of prequels that you could read at any point, in any order, but ideally you should read them AFTER The Prophecies Begin book 6 and the SE’s you should read BEFORE the Omen of the Stars book 1 Novella: Mapleshade’s Vengeance Novella: Goosefeather’s Curse SE: Bluestar’s Prophecy SE: Tallstar’s Revenge SE: Crookedstar’s Promise SE: Yellowfang’s Secret (This one really sucks. I don’t recommend reading it at all, way too many major contradictions with the first book)Novella: Cloudstar’s JourneyNovella: Pinestar’s ChoiceNovella: Spottedleaf’s HeartNovella: Redtail’s DebtManga: The Rise of ScourgeNovella: Tigerclaw’s FuryManga: A Shadow In RiverClan
Warriors- Omen of the Stars Book 1: The Fourth Apprentice Novella: Mistystar’s Omen Book 2: Fading Echoes Book 3: Night Whispers Book 4: Sign of the Moon Book 5: The Forgotten Warrior Novella: Hollyleaf’s Story Book 6: The Last Hope
Warriors- Dawn of the Clans (note: this fifth arc is actually a prequel. You could read it now or after everything else) Book 1: The Sun Trail Book 2: Thunder Rising Book 3: The First Battle Book 4: The Blazing Star Book 5: A Forest Divided Book 6: Path of Stars SE: Moth Flight’s Vision Novella: Thunderstar’s Echo Novella: Shadowstar’s Life (back to the main timeline) Novella: Ravenpaw’s Farewell Novella: Dovewing’s Silence Novella: Mothwing’s SecretSE: Crowfeather’s Trial (So, this was written after the next arc and the epilogue comic contains a few spoilers for A Vision of Shadows, but I think it’s kind of necessary to read right after Dovewing’s Silence. The Last Hope suggests Breezepelt finally GETS IT, Dovewing’s Silence suggests he doesn’t, and then if you don’t read this you’ll wonder why he’s not a major villain for the next arc) SE: Bramblestar’s Storm
Warriors- A Vision of Shadows Book 1: The Apprentice’s Quest Book 2: Thunder and Shadow SE: Hawkwing’s Journey Book 3: Shattered Sky Book 4: Darkest Night Book 5: River of Fire SE: Tigerheart’s Shadow Novella: Tawnypelt’s Clan Book 6: The Raging Storm SE: Squirrelflight’s Hope Novella: Tree’s RootsNovella: Pebbleshine’s Kits
Warriors- The Broken Code Book 1: Lost Stars Book 2: The Silent Thaw Book 3: Veil of ShadowsBook 4: Darkness WithinSE: Graystripes VowNovella: Daisy’s Kin Novella: Spotfur’s Rebellion (? Haven’t read it yet. Could be during book 3 or 4)Book 5: The Place of No StarsBook 6: A Light In The MistWarriors- A Starless ClanBook 1: River
Field Guides (probably don’t read these until you’re done with everything else. Ultimate Guide contains spoilers through Dawn of the Clans) 1- Secrets of the Clans 2- Cats of the Clans 3- Code of the Clans 4- Battles of the Clans 1&3: Enter the Clans (This is just a book that combines Secrets of the Clans and Code of the Clans) X: The Warriors Guide (This is just bits and pieces of the other 4 guides) 5: The Ultimate Warriors Guide (The description of what happened to Ashfur is so wrong you should just not even read it.)
Weird online content that has plot holes and doesn’t fit the story at all and basically you just should only read if you accept they’re dumb crap written for children: -The Elder’s Concern (you could be mistaken for believing this is AU fanfiction of the end of book 1. It’s not, its just a mess.) -The Sun Trail: Bright Stream alternate chapter -A Forest Divided: Tall Shadow alternate chapter -Spottedleaf’s Honest Answer -After Sunset: “The Right Choice?” and “We Need To Talk” (actually I really love these) -Brightspirit’s Mercy play- The Clans Decide short story -The first five books in both DotC and AVoS (and presumably TBC) have a bonus chapter. Not all published editions contain the bonus chapter! I had to find the AVoS ones online
Woo! I think I got em all. Sometimes books will have minor to major mistakes that will be really confusing when you come across them. Thankfully the warriors wiki has mostly accurate sections on every book’s page for “Mistakes” because this is a bunch of dumb rushed kids books written by a team of authors with no series bible.
EDIT: Updating this as more books come out. Not sure yet where Blackfoot’s Reckoning, Leopardstar’s Honor, or Winds of Change are gonna go

everything’s okay
a short piece exploring dovewing, jayfeather and lionblaze, and how they found acceptance in their lack of powers after the battle.
minor spoilers for tbc/tigerhearts shadow, as it’s set not too long after dovewing moves to shadowclan. i don’t quite remember the timelines, but i’m pretty sure it’s the period where everything is chill!
i haven’t written in quite a while, so i’m definitely a bit rusty! hope u enjoy
-
Dovewing slipped past the lake, sticking close to the edge. The water was calm and still; she could barely even hear the sound of it swaying against the shore. Beyond the lake was the sun slowly making its way up the horizon. It sent waves of colour across a usually blue-grey sky. The reflection of it on the water was bright and it made Dovewing’s fur shine even in the dull light of dawn.
Focusing her attention away from the lake, Dovewing turned to spot two familiar figures in the distance: a large tom, and a much smaller, skinnier tom. Skipping over the rocks, Dovewing bounded over to them with a purr. When she arrived, she reached up to press her cheek against Lionblaze’s, and brushed her tail tip to Jayfeather's shoulder.
“Hi, sorry I’m late.”
“You’re always late,” Jayfeather remarked.
Lionblaze snorted. “I think we’re early! You basically wake me up before the dawn patrol has even left!”
“We have to be if we want to be here on time.” Jayfeather gave Dovewing a sharp look, and it was only then that she remembered how scary his glares were. With a small squeak, she backed away and settled down beside Lionblaze, who laughed and bumped Jayfeather’s shoulder. “Stop scaring her, Jay!”
“If I have the opportunity, I will take it.” Jayfeather lifted his head up indignantly.
“So just like when I was an apprentice,” Dovewing chuckled, rolling her eyes. “Clearly nothing has changed.”
The second the words left her mouth, Dovewing regretted them. Jayfeather’s gaze darkened and he looked at the ground, ears flattening against his head. Lionblaze stilled, averting his eyes.
“Sorry,” she said quickly. “Of course things have changed. A lot-- a lot of things.”
She remembered the Great Battle and all the loss that came with it. She knew that they must be thinking of Hollyleaf, their sister. She had barely settled back into ThunderClan after her disappearance before she was killed.
“It’s not that,” Lionblaze said as though reading her mind, still not looking up. “It’s just… It’s just Jay…” he paused for a second, glancing at Jayfeather and touching his tail to his. When Jayfeather nodded, Lionblaze continued, “Jay tried to use his powers yesterday, and he… couldn’t. Someone was upset and he couldn’t--”
“That’s not what happened,” Jayfeather interrupted, tail flicking back and forth. “That’s not what happened, I lied.”
Lionblaze whipped his head around to look at him. “What?”
Jayfeather shifted, keeping his narrowed eyes on the ground. “I lied. I didn’t try to use my powers yesterday. I lied because I was…” He trailed off, gaze hardening again. “That doesn’t matter why, but I lied.” He went quiet but by the way Lionblaze was staring at him expectantly, Dovewing knew it wouldn’t be long before he continued.
Jayfeather lifted his head, letting out a huff. After a few more moments of silence, he went on, “Poppyfrost was upset, I knew that, and I… I asked if she was okay.” He cleared his throat, shrugging. “It came naturally. There were no memories, no intense emotions, only a question that she didn’t even have to answer. It was-- it was nice, I guess.”
As Jayfeather dropped his gaze again, Lionblaze grinned, wrapping a paw around him and pulling him close. “Aww! I’m so proud of you!” he laughed, rubbing his face against Jayfeather’s. Jayfeather wriggled against his hug, shoving him away with an angry grunt and a yell of, “Get off me, you big doof!”
When Lionblaze let him go, Jayfeather shook out his fur. He edged a little further away while glaring at his brother, and muttered, “Have you had a moment… like that?”
Lionblaze blinked, frowning in thought. His narrowed his eyes. Dovewing giggled at his attempts at a thoughtful expression that she’d known for so long. It wasn’t long before his goofy grin returned, and he exclaimed, “I have!”
“Yeah?” she prompted.
He nodded. “The other day,” he began, pausing for a moment to find his words. “The other day I broke my claw.”
“By tripping over a root!” Jayfeather cut in. “You fell straight on your face and would not stop whining, I don’t know how Cinderheart puts up with y--”
“Jayy! That’s not my point.” Lionblaze groaned, glaring at him. Jayfeather stared at him smugly. “My point is that broke my claw, and I don’t know, I just-- It was okay. I felt okay.”
“You were crying like a little kit,” Jayfeather scoffed.
“Jay!” Lionblaze gave him a light shove, clearly struggling to fight a smile. “Let me finish.”
Jayfeather rolled his eyes. “Go on.”
Lionblaze let out a sigh. “I just… I felt okay. It hurt, obviously-” Lionblaze stopped to give his brother an annoyed look, “-it hurt but I didn’t think about it too much. It was-- It was normal. It was normal that I got hurt, that I... can get hurt.”
Dovewing smiled warmly and nodded. Jayfeather was quiet for a few seconds as he nodded slowly too. Then, very softly, he said, “You were still complaining about it the next day.”
It was only then that Lionblaze whacked Jayfeather over the ear-- or tried to. Jayfeather ducked, letting out a tiny laugh as Lionblaze came tumbling forward. He scrambled to his paws and tried again, letting out a frustrated grunt.
Dovewing’s attention on the brothers faded as she concentrated on the lake. She couldn’t hear the tide from here, but she could hear the breeze rushing through the leaves behind her. She could feel it gently tugging at her fur, too.
She couldn’t see the little mice that hid amongst the bushes and in little holes, but she knew that they were there. She could feel the sand from Lionblaze and Jayfeather’s tussle being thrown in the air and make a mess. As the wind picked up, she could hear the creek of a great old oak at the edge of the forest. She couldn’t hear the animals that lived within the tree and atop the branches, but she knew that they were always there.
When Lionblaze came crashing down beside her, her attention was brought back to reality. She smiled faintly down at him, tilting her head. “You lost, huh?”
Lionblaze heaved himself to his paws, muttering out a defeated, “Yeah, he’s fast.”
Jayfeather came and sat down beside them, looking very pleased with himself. Lionblaze began to groom his messy fur, casting angry looks at Jayfeather every now and again.
Dovewing looked back across the lake. “I was hunting a squirrel earlier. It was very windy, and when I listened out, it was loud, but it wasn’t overwhelming,” she told them. “When I caught the squirrel it felt… normal, as you said. I was just a cat hunting for her Clan and I caught a squirrel as easily as any other warrior.”
She glanced at the others, a hopeful smile spreading across her face. “I think that’s when I knew that everything was okay.”

Crowfeather’s Trial, the Final Verdict!
Spoilers for Crowfeather’s Trial below.
So I am writing this after I finished reading Crowfeather’s Trial, so my thoughts may be foggy. Without further ado, here is what I thought. (Note: this centers around Breezepelt and why I actually don’t hate him anymore.)
I really loved it! It was great! However, the timeline made me angry. Crowfeather’s Trial happens before Vision of Shadows, like so:
Tumblr media
However, I think it should have gone like this:
Tumblr media
With Crowfeather’s Trial falling sometime after Darktail’s death. Let me explain. We start with Dovewing’s Silence, where the dark forest trainees take an oath of loyalty, but Breezepelt does not feel regretful at all.
Suddenly, Darktail appears! The Clans are gripped with the fear that the Dark Forest Trainees will join him, and they have to fight twice as hard to prove their loyalty. Breezepelt, because he was one of the “dark forest ringleaders,” (like we see in Crow’s Trial,) is mistrusted and excluded from Clan activities.
After Breezepelt saw someone (Darktail) equally brutal and hellbent on revenge against their father as Breezepelt was, Breezepelt realized how destructive and cruel it made him. He finally felt real remorse for his actions, and wanted to be forgiven. It would explain Dovewing’s Silence and his sudden “I wanna be a good guy now!” change.
Tumblr media
a nice arc for a bad boy!

hey so i tried putting together a reading order for warriors but i wanted some ppls thoughts on it as there’s a lot and i probably got some stuff wrong n i also put some side books as optional/not optional
list under cut
Note: The optional books are placed where they are because they can be read from that point onward without receiving spoilers for the main series. I'd personally recommend leaving them to the end so not to break up the flow of the series, but it's entirely up to you!

Initial Thoughts on Tigerheart’s Shadow
Tumblr media
Non-spoiler summary: Shoot. What happened to character development?
Spoiler-ridden thoughts under the cut:
So this is going to be a little different from book reviews. Mostly because I literally just finished the book after reading it for 3 hours and need to let off some steam. These are just my thoughts right now, and may change my tune as I go through it a second time in preparation for my book review.
The Good:
I’m happy to see ShadowClan is in the forefront again. I've grown used to seeing them over the course of Violetpaw’s POV.
So that’s where SkyClan went? Between ThunderClan and ShadowClan? Now the question is if they can stay there.
Blaze is adorable
I’m always curious about kits named after Clans. We’ve had a Windflight in ThunderClan, and now we’re getting Shadowkit in ShadowClan
Shadowkit is most likely going to be a medicine cat, thank goodness. Puddleshine needs help.
I’m glad they finally wrapped up the TigerDove arc so we can concentrate on more, non-Romeo and Juliet-related things
Outsiders with different names for things are always fun, especially when cats get to see more of Twoleg activities (even religion!)
I’m glad we got descriptions for the BlossomThorn kits because I had no idea how to tell them apart.
The Bad:
Character development. In The Last Hope, Dovewing lets Tigerheart go while remaining by Bumblestripe’s side. This was symbolic of her understanding that they could not be together, and that she would move on. She was also choosing ‘light’ rather than someone who was wandering the dark. Before Bramblestar’s Storm, we had no idea that she would be questioning this decision. Dovewing’s Silence had her completely over Tigerheart, and she and Bumblestripe actually worked together. I understood why she broke up with him in Bramblestar’s Storm, as she felt she no longer trusted him to keep secrets, but Tigerheart? Really? Does she really need a mate to be complete?
Tigerheart felt like every other Warriors Super Edition protagonist. He was whiny, bossy, and ended up rising in power in the end. Also he made assumptions about Puddleshine’s prophecy and stopped Puddleshine before the medicine cat could explain he was wrong. I honestly believe that Tigerheart leaving ShadowClan ruined the Clan.
“Leaders can step down.” Um????? No they can’t???? Do you remember what happened to Brokentail and Nightstar???
“It’s been done before.” WHEN???? ARE YOU REFERRING TO BROKENTAIL AND NIGHTSTAR BECAUSE THAT WENT SO WELL
They mixed up Twigpaw and Violetpaw too, when they were explaining who went to SkyClan. The Allegiances AND Ivypool both said that Twigpaw remained in ThunderClan while Violetpaw went to SkyClan, but instead someone mentioned Twigpaw being in SkyClan.
Also, when did that happen? When did SkyClan get lands? When did Mistystar close her borders? WHY DIDN’T WE GET INFORMED OF THESE?
By the way, if they mention all of that in the coming book that would be very poor planning on their part. They release Super Editions according to how well they fit into storylines, if at all.
Why did Rowanclaw die and why did he change his name? Who was leading ShadowClan in Tigerheart’s absence?
How did three ThunderClan medicine cats miss a pregnant queen? And why wasn’t Leafpool mentioned while naming ThunderClan medicine cats? She’s still listed as one in the Allegiances.
Fierce was an idiot, but Tigerheart literally bossed around cats that he knew for a total of I think three moons (one moon of Dovewing carrying kits, two moons before the kits could travel. I think.)
Spire (who has an odd name for a wild cat, by the way) is literally a mixture of Skywatcher and Goosefeather and I still can’t decide whether I love him because I love crazy cats or hate him because he’s a copy of two great characters
Tigerheart died but it’s okay because hours later they stuck him in a holy puddle and he got eight lives and an evil name
Additional Note:
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA CROWFEATHER IS THE DEPUTY OF WINDCLAN I FREAKING CALLED IT WHY ERINS WHY DID YOU DO THAT HE’S NOT DEPUTY MATERIAL
Yes, this is much different than how I usually do things. I try to be a lot more classy and less... pessimistic about what I write. That’s because this blog and YouTube channel are changing, and this is actually one of the last posts I’ll write as ‘Melody Harp.’ More updates soon!
Disclaimer: I mean no offense to the author or any fans of the series, ESPECIALLY TigerDove fans! These are just my opinions.
Until next time, happy reading!

Icecloud and/or Foxleap?
Icecloud's last words were:
"My mother gave her life to protect the nursery. She died the death of a warrior. Don't take that away from her."

I will never leave Ferncloud's side again," Dustpelt snarled. He slammed his paw on the ground, his claw-tips scoring the soil. "I should have been with her. She should never have been left to fight Brokenstar alone. She was nothing but a scrap of prey for him!" Icecloud glanced up at him with a glint of anger in her pale blue gaze. "My mother gave her life to protect the nursery. She died the death of a warrior. Don't take that away from her.
Serious fucking props to Icecloud.
