Don't feel sorry for answering back with a whole novel! I loved your response! It's so hard to find people who like Syrus as much as I do and that's sad because he is very interesting! I've seen people writing post cannon fics where they sideline him in favor of focusing on Zane. He gets written off as Zane's caretaker, Zane's successor, or Zane's support system, or all three!

And honestly I think that's frustrating because there is so much to explore with him! Heck, I've been wondering why nobody has written a fic where Syrus has to question if he even wants to be a duelist at all! Or if he convinced he wanted to be one to prove his brother he has worth! And I think it would be interesting too if Zane was aware of that! Because the way their childhood was framed in the show it would make a lot of sense if Sy was really just a casual duelist when he was little while Zane was the dueling prodigy!

So many people just write him off or dismiss and really misunderstand his entire character and his arc very badly in my personal experience. And he's such a complex and interesting, well rounded, real and human character it's such a horrible fucking shame 😭

And bro if any fics like that were to ever exist I need it yesterday. He's always wanted to be a duelist because his brother was. Zane taught him how to play, there's even a line in the manga where Zane says "I never should have taught you how to duel" because in the manga their issue is that Zane thinks Sy is too kind a person to be a true duelist. So Syrus is trying to prove to him that he's strong enough to survive in the dueling world. So I suppose we kinda have that kind of thing through the manga but it would be really interesting to see Sy struggle with that thought. Maybe he doesn't really want to be a professional duelist, maybe he just wants to prove himself to his brother?
