(Some of) the obscure 3DS tech demos from E3 2010

With the Noclip Archive's 1080p upload of Nintendo's E3 2010 press conference yesterday, I went back into the barely-documented 3DS tech demo rabbit hole for a little bit!

Most people know of the "main" 3DS tech demo from E3 2010, which showed multiple 3D dioramas of Nintendo characters that would later be repurposed for the Puzzle Swap pieces in StreetPass Mii Plaza. But there are a couple more tech demos shown by Nintendo on the show floor that have barely or never seen the light of day since, mostly because Nintendo seemed to not like people pointing too many cameras at the 3DS screens!

The following appears to be the only currently known footage of the "3D Hopper" tech demo, documented by Destructoid! It is part of the trio of 3D demos alongside 3D Paddleball and 3D Challenge, previously reported to be shown to the press behind closed-doors, but this video appears to have been taken directly on the show floor. The original YouTube upload of this footage seems to have gone private, this has been saved from a video tweet I made in 2020.

While there hasn't been any found footage of 3D Paddleball that I know of, the last of the "3D" trio, 3D Challenge, has been preserved back in 2020! I teamed up with preservation group Forest of Illusion to document the demo in coordination with its release:

Many games that would end up being first-party and third-party 3DS titles were demoed at the show floor in the form of interactive demos or videos, such as the Metal Gear Solid 3 port, Kid Icarus Uprising, Ocarina of Time 3D, and perhaps the most well-known of which, the original version of Paper Mario: Sticker Star.

What would eventually become games included with the 3DS, AR Games and Face Raiders were also shown in the form of tech demos, as well as a demo showing classic NES and SNES games in 3D that would eventually become the basis for the underutilized 3D Classics line. The following appears to be the only known footage of the demo from Nintendo World Report:

I continue to find info (and in some cases the lack thereof) about the 3DS' presence in E3 2010 fascinating, so hopefully more people end up interested in digging up more info or footage from the event!

We need to talk about the elephant in the room. I really hate the last episode of the series. Secret sister? Were Gatiss and Moffat possessed by Marlene King when they wrote the script? Nothing against Sian Brooke, she is a magnificent actress. So if I have to choose an ending it will be the end of the previous chapter. I wish the hug had nothing to do with 'the cheating' part. Only two men finally lower their barriers and try to seek solace for a completely avoidable death. Understand my point: JW failed to protect his wife, attacked his (only) friend, is not able to take care of his daughter, resorts to alcohol, hallucinates his dead wife, and has suicidal thoughts. Was it necessary to also fail in his marriage, when Mary was still alive? I think it's too much for one man. So... They go to celebrate SH's birthday and months later, JW and Rosie, return to 221b Baker Street. End.

**Of course, the cherry on top would be an explicit johnlock's end.

Portions of this song were used in the E3 2010 trailer for Fallout: New Vegas.[3]

Lily Bell, a character mentioned in the Fallout 4 Creation Club content "CR-74L Combat Rifle," is named in reference to the person being addressed in the lyrics of Jingle, Jangle, Jingle.

-The song could be heard on the radio in the 2280s, when Lily Bell was active.[4] It can be presumed she was named for, or named herself for, the character.[5] Her wife bears a similar given moniker, Mary Jane, further suggesting Lily chose the name for herself.

-Historically, female vocalists covering Jingle, Jangle, Jingle, such as Dinah Stone, have left its lyrics unaltered, which adds a layer of lesbian tension to the song. The most famous of these is The Mary Macs' 1942 cover, which features male vocalists backing up the lead, Mary Lou Cook.

2008, Fallout 3 Game Launch

Rolling out with the classic brown leather jacket. Unsure if this is its first public fashion sighting, unable to find any photo evidence pre 2008... Now under the jacket, a pac-man ghost shirt ? A most predictable, hokey late 2000s gamer shirt...All together paired with what will be familiar--dark wash jeans. This fit is, a 6.5/10. Definitely needed a different shirt. But the tickle of chest hair, gives it an additional half point. Teehee.

2010, Spike VGAs

Looking really brown. Same brown leather jacket, now with an equally brown shirt. Earthy. Grimy. Just Like Skyrim (He announced it here). 7.5/10, the entourage of cloaked hooligans adds to the atmosphere. Cult leader Todd moment.

2015, E3

DIFFERENT JACKET ! Specifically a racer jacket. A bolder black, and made of a more stiffer fabric. His equally bold, red Bethesda Studios shirt matches well with his jacket. Honestly...Quite commanding. Perhaps his first step on the path to slaying... 9/10 !

2017, 20th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards

BY GOD !!!!! I am almost at a loss for words... The sleek blue blazer, complimenting his eyes... The crisp white button up, with a better peek at the chest hair we once saw back in 2008 ! His classic, meager yet knowing small smile. Impeccable ! Bellissimo !!! 10/10 BABY !!!

2018, E3

Do my eyes deceive me ? A new brown leather jacket ! A different style, one similar to his 2015 E3 one ! This one is much more flattering to him than the '08/'10 jacket. His shoulders are more broad, compared to how soft they were in the old brown jacket. Combined with his plain-jane blue shirt that compliments his eyes once more...He looks very nice ! The watch adds a nice detail as well. I'll give it, an 8/10.

2019, E3

Coming to you humble, in muted tones. After the disaster of FO76's launch, he wanted mercy. A dusty light brown suede jacket. With his dark shirt and pants letting him sink into the background. This is a man on the cross. His wrists bound by leather bracelets or something like it. Though he still wants to serve professional big boy with the same watch from last year. 7/10.

2021, Bethesda Showcase

Quite the change up !!! Considering it was a digital showcase, it's a fun twist. A white v-neck cozied up by a zippered sweatshirt that matches the color of the Starfield background. Nice ! He looks like a sports coach. But the nicer one. Perhaps a health teacher. Still wearing that watch, as he should ! It's quite nice. 8/10 for cozy vibes.

2022, XBOX and Bethesda Showcase

Return of the 2018 Leather Jacket King... And with a fresh cut no less !! Two varying blues in the shirt and jeans, a nice compliment to the background and stage ! I applaud him on venturing out to mid-wash. AND THE MATCHING PIECE DE RESISTANCE !! Those glossy brown leather shoes. Slay !!! His brown bracelet and watch also add to this fashion experience. A solid 9/10. Excited for next years fashion choices.
