Secret Life finale highlights for me:

- "My strategy: Kill Skizz and Tango. Will happen at some point... Or, just maim them and watch them die in a corner." - Scar

- Scott on Grian's loyalty: "I have never seen a man drop a pair of sunglasses faster in my life [than last season after Joel died]."

- I think I reblogged someone's speculation weeks ago that at the dawn of final session, everyone's task book would just say "Win Secret Life." Congrats to them for Apollo's gift of prophecy.

- Martyn's beat of pause before saying to Joel "Welcome to the Out of Context video."

- At the start of the season, Etho said Joel was the first one he wanted to kill because "He's cheeky." When Joel is asked who he wants to kill, he says "Etho." Glad you're enjoying your rivalry, boys, smh...

- Joel, once again giving into his Shrek origins, watching Bdubs' wool globe go up in flames and chirping "My world's on fire; how 'bout yours?"

- Tango does not break his "pathetic death" curse. Just blipped out of existence. Love that for him.

- Spitting, crying... BigB panics and flees into his creepy backrooms for safety. Immediately vanishes into the tunnel maze. Scar pursues and skids to a halt because he hasn't seen it yet and is thoroughly creeped out.

- Scar coming up to surface and trying to describe how BigB disappeared. Martyn looks down at where they're standing and is just like "Oh, that's the backrooms." Mental image of Scar as that meme that goes "The. what."

- Scar describing BigB as a sneaky squirrel. "Squirrel" was the name of BigB's horse in Double Life.

- Joel's anxiety about entering a Nether portal on the final episode, specifically because of how he and Etho perma-died in Double Life

- Whatever was going on with Martyn flinging ender pearls up the ladder seconds before he died

- Additionally, people in the background commenting that they think Martyn's teamed up with Cleo and the only reason he was near them was an attempt to bear down and kill them

- Scar to Bdubs, watching Cleo and Etho from a distance: "Look at this- Mom and Dad are bringing their new ugly stepson to meet us, Bdubs." /camera pans to the warden chasing them

- Bdubs tells Scar that Cleo said he was her favorite son and Scar IMMEDIATELY, without responding or even waiting for Bdubs to finish his sentence, jumps a wall and books it to Cleo to confirm... Mental image of him swinging dramatically over it with one hand, his shawl billowing behind him

- Scar chases Cleo while they're both being pursued by a warden, asking her if he's her favorite son. Doesn't let up until she assures him she "just said it to keep Bdubs happy." what is wrong with the Clocker family.

- Joel somehow pulled off a beautiful PVP kill on Skizz despite having only 2.5 hearts

- In earlier episodes, Joel had people say "The florist sends his regards" on his behalf before striking. Before killing Skizz, he says "Scar sends his regards" since Scar really wanted to kill Skizz but bequeathed the fight to Joel instead.

- Scar trotting up to Etho and Cleo, who are watching him from a cliff, and announcing "I am not up to anything nefarious!"

- Scar's weird spiky wall design is really pretty

- slkdjfskldjfsklj?!?!?!? I had a bullet point on this list that said "Honorable non-finale mention to Scar getting both the Green and Yellow kill on Etho this season" but now I see I need to correct that:

- Shout-out to Scar killing Etho - in Etho's front yard - THREE TIMES this season. Etho rushing back to his base, tripping over his feet and saying "I'm going home, everybody- I'm dying at my home-"

- Scott to Scar: "I went down to BigB - to get him - and I see what you mean; he does just talk his way out of things so you feel bad; you just leave him." / Scar: "That's why you don't let him speak. You just inner monologue. You start talking about Star Wars so you can't hear his charms."

- As Scar drives his sword into Cleo, he says "Good-bye, Mom- This is for you telling Bdubs [he's your] favorite." Geez, dude. Scar killed both his parents; this family is a mess. Bonus points for Joel fumbling in the background like "Oh my gosh- Scar, you savage-"

- I watched multiple POVs until I was caught up to the standoff between Gem & The Scotts vs. The Mounders... So picking up from there with Scar's POV b/c his is the one I randomly started with today: I love how Joel basically went "I am once again throwing caution to the wind and charging into battle with a murderous Red rage in my eyes and no one behind me" like he ALWAYS does.

- Bdubs and Scar decide to back him up... Amazing.

- Scar has gotten 4 kills (Tango, Etho, Cleo, Impulse) and he was super close to getting BigB as well before Scott sniped the kill. Geez... The man is vicious today. During Limited Life, Grian made a comment that went something like "Of course Scar is only destructive / successful when I'm not on his team" and honestly? Yeah...

- Pearl begging Scar to kill her- Pearl warning Scar that if she perma-kills Gem, she'll go up 10 hearts- Scar refusing, insisting that he doesn't want to turn on her because it feels lame...

- Scar got Gem, he got Gem... GeminiSlay is DOWN!

- SCAR SWEEP WITH THE BOW!!

Oh my goodness, I saw his episode title ("Can Villain Scar Win?") and the words that went through my head were "Welp, that's a spoiler that he's dead." I see I was wrong.

GG, SCAR WIN!!! Man who wanted so desperately to have friends, only to trip and fail time and time again... GoodTimesWithVictor!!

My heart, Scar letting that zombie knock him down to half a heart... playing up like he didn't just watch the lightning bolt mark Pearl's demise. He wanders, calling out to Pearl, asking where she went... quietly giggling and muttering to himself as that zombie pushes at him... GG, Scar. GG.

My goodness, is this the only time we haven't seen the winner die in their perspective? Scar slams that success button for winning the game, gets 5 hearts, turns back, and that's it... That's the game. End scene.

“So, Martyn. You’re the person here I can ask about this, sure. You still seem sane.”

Martyn snorts. “Sane’s a relative term, Scott, but sure. Ask whatever it is you’re asking. We’re at least pals, right?”

“Right,” Scott says, and doesn’t say anything for a while.

Their base smells like seawater and dead fish. Martyn’s not sure if the dead fish are actually dying fish or like, the two of them, and isn’t about to try to figure it out. The fact Scott’s been turning into a fish is freaking Martyn out enough already.

“Sorry,” Scott says. “Just realized I’m not sure I want to ask this one.”

“Fair enough. Lotta things out here I don’t want to know the answers to.”

“You? Really?”

Martyn pauses. Our will be done.

“…I mean. A few.”

“Hm.”

“Shit’s weird, man.”

“True, true. As you said. Shit’s weird.”

“Sounds weird coming from you.”

“Eh. I mean, we’re used to it.”

The waves crash against their base. Martyn dips his toes in the water. It used to feel cold.

“That’s the question, really,” Scott says. “When did we all become so… apathetic?”

“Lotta explosions for apathy,” Martyn says after a moment. “Lotta… fire and brimstone and dramatic speeches, for apathy.”

“Yeah, but like. I don’t know. How many times have you died?”

“That’s easy, it’s—”

Martyn stops.

“How many people have you killed?”

“If you gave me time to—”

“Why are we all still just… playing around?” Scott says. “If I died tomorrow, would you care? Would I care? Or would it just be one more moment in a chaotic mess of… apathy doesn’t have to mean boring, it’s just…”

“Not caring,” Martyn finishes.

“Etho blew up Scar and Bdubs earlier and we just laughed and moved on,” Scott says.

“I mean…”

Our will be done.

“I mean. Is it better if we don’t?”

They’re both quiet again for a bit. Light reflects in flecks off of Scott and the waves.

“We didn’t used to,” Scott says, very quietly. He plays with a ring on his finger. Martyn is suddenly quite cold. He shivers and looks out over the sky. It’s summer. An oppressive heat sinks over the sky. Still, he’s cold, like winter is—

“Ah. I think I get what you mean,” Martyn says, finally. “If it makes you feel better, when you—”

“Yeah. Okay. You’re right. I know,” Scott says. “It’s a stupid question.”

“Nah,” Martyn says. “Nah. You can ask. I don’t know, man. Maybe this isn’t apathy, really. If you died, I’d care. I’d care.”

Scott stands up. “You know, the funniest part is that I have no clue if you’re lying.”

Before Martyn can ask anything else, Scott dives into the water. “I’m catching some fish,” Scott says.

“Yeah, sure. Save me some, fish man.”

He’s gone. Martyn watches after him. Apathy. Hah. Funny way to describe it, but.

He turns to the sky. “He’s not wrong, you know. You lot. He’s not wrong. Happy with yourselves?”

No response.

“Figures.”

He sighs and leans back. Well, it’s not like he had to care or anything—that’s the whole point of it being apathy, isn’t it? Even if his sword’s still bloody.

Clock’s ticking.

Does anyone ever think about how everything 3rd life etho loved (his base his tree his pets) all got burnt like things being set on fire and burning down were such a big part of his 3l character that he started naming his videos after it and then he died on fire. And then ll happened and bdubs was like okay well let's make our base out of nether wood so it doesn't burn down ever because you deserve a place to be safe. And when they can't do that they make it out of snow. And they replant the dark oak tree and do their best to protect it even when scar threatens it again. And bdubs teaches him that axe hits disabled shields so he can protect himself. And then bdubs dies and etho forgets that axe hits disable shields and gets killed by one. And then in double life his house burns down and he dies in lava believing that bdubs betrayed him and sent him to burn again after protecting him for so long. Has anyone thought about this before? I didnt think so its okay. Walks away. Turns back around to say something. Decides against it and walks away again

Martyn was yelling. Martyn was yelling and coming at Impulse with a desperation and fury that rooted him to the spot. It didn’t make sense, Martyn was… cheating. Scott was dead, gone in a flash of fire that Impulse couldn’t even begin to comprehend. And he was facing down a man who was all greens and yellows and reds and-

There was a slice through the air, a pain so brief it might have been imagined, and then-

“I’m so proud of you, homie buddy!”

“For goodness sake, Skizz, put on a shirt!”

Impulse tried to extract himself from Skizz’s chest, but his friend only pulled him closer.

“Let him breathe a little, Skizz, he just died, after all.” Tango’s voice floated up somewhere to the left of him, and he felt a pat on the back. “Nice work, man, second place ain’t too bad.”

Skizz let Impulse go, finally, and Impulse was instantly being congratulated by his other friends, Scott giving him a distracted smile, Pearl sticking out her tongue before hugging him tight.

“You’re a good guy, Impulse. Thanks for sticking by me.” Etho came over and clapped Impulse on the shoulder, a small smile in his voice and a twinkle in his eye. “You fought well.”

“Thanks, man.” Impulse beamed at him. “You did too. Not washed up at all.” He chuckled, and Etho grumbled good-naturedly before wandering back over to The Clockers.

Skizz was standing next to him still, almost vibrating with energy.

“You’re being ridiculous.” Impulse told Skizz. “You should be congratulating Martyn when he dies. Or Scott, for that matter- there was no way I would have won even if we’d all played fair.”

“Come, walk and talk with me, buddy.” Skizz said, floating in the direction of the TIES tower.

They passed by the small group around Grian, who were watching Martyn below, still alive and on the ground. He caught a bit of conversation as they passed.

“We should probably slash-kill, G. Game’s over.”

“No, let’s leave him for a moment.” Grian mumbled, watching Martyn with a troubled look on his face.

The tower was empty, and Skizz and Impulse perched on the edge of Skynet, watching the other dead players float around.

“Dude, I said it once, but I’ll say it again- I am so proud of you. You’re like a warrior, man!” Skizz crowed.

“But I didn’t win!” Impulse exclaimed, although he couldn’t help but smile at Skizz’s enthusiasm.

“What- are you kidding me, dude! I told you- all of you before I died- team TIES gets top three, and you got to second place!”

“Well, second is a poor replacement for first…” Impulse grumbled.

“You know what, dude?” Skizz said, snapping his fingers, “I never did get to your affirmation, did I?”

“No, but I’m not, like, offended.” Impulse replied.

Skizz cleared his throat. “Impulsesv, my bestest friend-”

“You don’t have to do this, I’ll be okay without my affirmation.” Impulse interrupted.

“Shut your face and let me say nice things!” Skizz waved his hand dramatically at Impulse to make him shut up. “Impulse, my friend. You know, when I was doing these affirmations, I had to study people, even the ones I knew before. But you… it was easy to come up with the words. Perseverance. Focus. God, man, look at what you did. You wanted to win, and the way you hunted, killed… it was incredible. You never stopped, and I could tell how badly you wanted to win. You put your mind to it and you just go, man. If death herself hasn’t stopped you, I’m sure you would have walked right through Martyn’s axe to get the win.”

Impulse laughed. “I think you’ve been hanging out in the afterlife for too long, man, you are making less sense with every sentence.”

“I’m just proud of you, man.” Skizz smiled.

“Careful, Skizz,” Impulse teased, “people are gonna start thinking you’re some kind of angel or something, with how nice you’re being.”

“Ha! Whatever, dude.”

Skizz and Impulse started trying to elbow each other off of Skynet, laughing and waiting for Martyn’s life to end. The sun was setting, and there was that bittersweet taste of second place that settled heavy on Impulse’s tongue. Not good, not bad, but at the end of the day, there were always people who loved him, so it didn’t really matter.

I think 3rd life is somehow the best plot&system-wise. It's not based on anything, just my humble opinion. I have so much thoughts and they are all so tragic. Like. It was my first ever interaction with theese CCs, I went there blind reacting. It was amazing then, it was even better after getting to know them. Every perspective tells such a drasticly different story. You've got alliances formed throu death, loyalty and sacrifices, broken or cherished till the very end. You have 3 lifes, and that's it. No tricks or some help or twist from the gamemakers. Go apeshit or stay nice, nothing changes it. All your enemies can start from something as simple as a random punch or a shot or a pice of paper. So can friends. No one knows how the server operates, they all come from somewhat-friendly spaces, so every simple fact is a new surprise - everybody kills animals, and ends up suffering with lack of food&lether for books afterwards. They put effort into builds, bother with decorating(not to say they didn't in later seasons, it's just the attachment I'll talk later), fill the places with love and care, get attached to pets and trees, banners of all things. PROTECT THEM and feel sorrow and grief, once they enevitibly get killed or burned or blown up or DESTROYED. The rage is so innocent in it's belive, that they were wronged, that they should be avenged, and not that this is just the reality of the server itself, that that's just - what heppens. The story tells so much about betrayal, about broken trust, and friends that go mad, and almoust no one follows the "all alliances are broken after you're red" rule. You are allowed to kill now, yeah, but there was nothing in PARTICULAR, stopping you before. It is proven by the first death, that it was just a prank, that lead to all the following chaos. Scar gives Grian flowers after his second death, and Grian STAYS. Cleo sticks with Bdubs, calling his castle a toilet, kidnaps the desert lama, burns Joel's home. She goes for the king and dies in the blind rage . Bdubs makes and gives Impulse the clock, that will doom their hearts in the end. Impulse promises his trust to the Crastle. Bigb makes the cookie. Martyn hears voices, and Ren asks him to take his head. He takes so many lives. The Red Winter Comes. Tango saves the cows, only for them to be stolen, he gets shot stuck behind the fire. Etho's dark oak gets burned, he builds a woolen castle, for it to get burned multiple times. Timmy gives Scott a poppy, starting their marriage. They build the flower valley. Timmy DIES FIRST and aquaeres the Canary curse. Scott follows full of sorrow. Skizz dies second, full of rage, and creates the boogieman curse. Joel stays alone, with his dog army, and dies, leaving his pack wandering the desert. The cactus-ring fight. The siege of dogwarts. Battle of the Red Desert. All the monopolies. The state, that everyone leaves the server, the contrast with the start. It's like watching the 1rst anual hunger games, from a perspective of people, who know and love each other, but no matter their efforts, end up slowly spiraling into violence and distrust, spreading pain and destruction. Mu soul loves and aches for it, even though it was the very same thing that broke it in the first place, that took a pice of it and so it will never be whole again. It's so tragic. All this blood was never beautiful. It was just. Red.

do you ever think about whatever the hell is going on with Impulse and Etho in the life series. like what is up with that

imagine you're ethoslab and you're playing this new death game for the first time. people are making alliances, and there's a war brewing- you know what side you're on. You're with the King, you are one of his men, and you live in a wool castle with your ally, the closest to you if only due to physical proximity. he doesn't come home a lot, but that's fine. You're still close.

Then the castle burns, more than once, and you really should have expected that. With time you'll start seeing burning houses as a sign, maybe a metaphor, but not now. You aren't yet aware of your penchant for bases susceptible to fire. You're more worried about your things.

Then the war hits, and you're not sure when, but you realize this guy- the one who was on your side, the one who lived with you- has turned on you. Is it turning on you if he was never on your side at all? But you thought you were friends, so it kind of hurts when he's the one who takes your last life.

The second time you do this he's not your friend at all- he chose the south, and that's alright with you. Your team is, frankly, the best. You have a best friend who might be something more, and though you have no castle, he helps you build a snow fort. Things are good. Then they aren't so good anymore, but you make them good again, even if at the expense of your other teammates. To you he matters more, so you keep him close.

You don't think of him much, the guy who betrayed you and killed you. Maybe you should have, but you have better this time.

Until he helps spawn that wither, and then it all comes crashing down, and in the end you choose being a survivor over being a friend. In the end, you can't give your life to a dead man. In a way, he killed you again.

The third time you don't quite believe it when your best friend is soulbound to him. Your best friend says they're happily married; you ask him if he's sure, he says of course he's sure, and that's how he takes you best friend from you twice.

You're not sad with your soulbound- it's a new experience, you never talked to him much before. This time your ally is the one who builds a base. No one wastes any time in pointing out how flammable it is. You both know it will burn soon enough.

But when it does you burn the whole world down with it, and in the end you both team up with your best friend and the one who killed you in more ways than one. You think he's happy, though. You kind of wish he weren't.

They betray you again. The portal's trapped, it couldn't have been anyone but them. It feels fitting, that you burn too. It's the third time he takes your life.

(If you asked he would tell you it wasn't them- your best friend would tell you they would never, and you'd believe the latter but not the former. You never ask.)

The two of you are there for the fourth round, too. By now you know how these games work. You ally with the people you were with when you truly first met your best friend, except this time he isn't there.

This time, you look at him- at the man who's killed you twice, now- and he looks back. You know he's not sorry. You aren't either.

He asks you about your cows, if you want to combine forces. You aren't fully sure what it means when you accept it, this feeling you get, but it doesn't feel wrong when you're allies. You know what he is- he's one to play from all sides, he's a traitor, he's your ally, he's the one with the backup plan, he's the reason you've died so many times. He's resourceful, he's smart, he's tricky, he's the type to pretend he's less than he is.

You can never fully trust him, but vaguely, you know he doesn't want that. You cheer for him, when he's the last of your team standing.

You aren't sure what to think of him, when you see him in the fifth game, but you know and he knows, so you guess it's fine.

I drew were I think Joel and Lizzie’s fragments would apear. I know they don’t actually glow out of cloathing/shoes— but I wanted to show where they were. (Yes they are falling in the void, shhh it can be different colors they are glowing.)

Explanation;

Lizzie has two fragments, one from last life and one from secret life. I hc that she fragments more easily and hers are much larger than pretty much anyone else’s. (Other than mumbo)

Her fragment from last life is on her back for the amount of times she was backstabbed/ betrayed in the series. (Obviously I couldn’t draw her back and her face so.. too bad-?) but I imagine that the fragment covers the majority of her back.

The fragment from secret life is on her face almost like tears. This was the heartbreak of no one coming to her party, and how the rest of her series played out after that was quite tragic to be fair, she never really got any revenge or closure.

Joel are e v e r y w h e r e.

He’s been on every series and never won so he’s just got a bunch. Most of his fragments are small because I don’t think the watchers would get much from him. The only times they get to feed off of him is usually because of the loss of his wife, only sometimes from a team mate. He isn’t usually close to people in most series, just causing chaos.

3rd life’s fragment is on his foot. I did this because of the kinda funny way he dies trying to put the fire on his house out but dies in the process. So yeah— he kinda just stepped in the fire. (Fairly small fragment cause he ain’t got no friends)

Last life is the neck because of how he always had it out for people, putting a target on him. (Again no friends except for scar but they barely counted as allys) ((lmao I didn’t know where to put this one really ))

Double life is his hand. I did this because boat boys and it’s like he’s rowing the boat (idk that’s my reasoning) I imagine Etho has one on the opposite hand because they are rowing the boat together <3 ( you get it right? They both have an oar to row the boat with) This was the first time Joel has a meaningful alliance, and it’s bigger than the first two fragments.

Limited life is his chest/heart. I felt that this was when Joel had the biggest connection with his team and was completely distraught when Jimmy died. The watchers were eating that shit UP. ( the fragment reaches out to his arm that’s why it looks like there’s six. I totally DIDNT make a random one somehow and am making an excuse for it being there)

Secret life is on his face, matching his wife, how cute. This was because of all the heartbreak he endured in the episodes including and following the wither-warden battle. He loses Lizzie, Jimmy, and mumbo all in one day and then on the last episode is the reason that Scott is able to kill Bdubs when he accidentally shot him. Overall just real sad times for him. And not even that— he dies to Scott once again, the one person he wanted dead the entire episode.

His fragments grow larger each season as he grows closer to the other players.

Edit— yes I know the fragments don’t look how they do canonically, but they look cool so shhhh. Also the ones I said are small but don’t look small in the picture, also just mistakes.

“Bdubs you’re taller than Joel” - etho. Joel immediately shoots fireworks at him.

Of course they got him with the buttons. Of course. The wardens! The nest! How did etho fail to mlg. RIP. That ladder shot of Martyn was BEAUTIFUL!! Has Cleo not gone into the nether before this entire series? Bro. THE NETHER PORTAL TRAP WORKED!!!! gem digging him out was such a jumpscare holy shit. He lasted a lot longer in the 3v1 than I expected. Very good.

Of course bigb died when he accidentally muted and couldn’t talk his way out of it.

Martyn funniest death. LOL.

Gem’s pov is so good holy. She hunted down etho and with her girly voice cheerfully proclaiming murder its fantastic!!! Grian really did a lot of damage to them holy shit. Scott’s sacrifice… at the secret keeper too 😭😭😭🫡🫡🫡 Pearl teaming up with scar was NOT what I expected.

Joel really killing himself with all the traps LOL. HE HIT ETHO OFF THATS SO COOL.

Pearl is so used to decked out that she laughs at the wardens and snacks on berries. Rip murder camel. The camel is dead, long live the camel! THE FINAL TWO!!!! Scar might actually win this with a punch II bow and thorns. SHE DIED TO FALL DAMAGE!!! well played. The camel lives!!!!

He got betrayed by tango and then he just spleefed tango like that. He was such a good hunter of Skizz; especially that underwater bow shot. Giving skizz worse than death. IS THAT ALL 3 TIMES??? INCREDIBLE. I can’t believe scar is still able to talk his way into alliances and boding over common enemies. How does he always do this. WHAT A SAVAGE ONE LINER ON CLEO. HE HAS OVER 40 HEARTS!! Him getting impulse was CLEVER!!! Scar is so on fire this series and this episode. That pvp with gem was pretty good! They traded roughly equally but he has better hearts and armor and Pearl lol. HE DIDNT KNOW HE WON BECAUSE HE DIDNT GET THE HEARTS OR THE KILL MESSAGE AGAHAHA. CLASSIC. and he hit the succeed button!! What an ending.

Just rewatched Martyn's first limited life episode, and honestly the foreshadowing is insane.

In Grian's summary of the mechanics at the start, Martyn's literally the example shown of a red name, which I like, even though it's clearly a complete coincidence.

Etho asks if they should leave some moss for other people, and he says "I'm really selfish, I might take it all." And they do! And it doesn't cause any problems.

He watches Grian almost die and doesn't help. He watches Cleo die and doesn't help. He could, easily, at minimal risk to himself. But- well. It's a death game, isn't it? And then he immediately lies to Cleo's face about it to make himself look better. And he suffers zero consequences for any of this.

When he sees that the woodland mansion's burning, he tries to help and gets accused of setting it on fire.

He chooses not to kill Skizz when it would've been easy, and it ends with him panicking, struggling to kill someone and, ultimately, dying even after he succeeds.

The music, in the lead up to his boogeyman kill, is exactly the same as the music in the lead up to his betrayal at the end. While he casually lies to the person he knows full well he's about to kill. And it works.

It's like the world wants to hammer home that trying to be good will only make things worse for him, that fighting dirty always just be better.

At the end, he dies, because he's on low health, because he had to try a riskier boogey kill because he couldn't bring himself to kill Skizz. He dies falling down a hole Etho dug, when Martyn gave him a shield.

He dies, in his words:

"All because I was kind. I'm not doing that again."

i can’t stop thinking about how reminiscent the end of this season was to third life. scar died because grian got him killed right at the end again. etho died in fire again. impulse, although accidentally, died by bdubs’ hand again. jimmy died first again. tango died alone with no allies in utter futility again. and pearl, the winner, was THE ONLY PERSON this season who wasn’t in third life. don’t know what exactly this means but there’s something there i think

I had a lot of fun coming up with an idea for this one!! this one's on my d&d character's playlist, so less plays than normal but still a few :3

You know how this story goes, don't you?

You know Grian, and you know how this game starts. Grian stands in a field full of people, each of them friends, associates, known by acquaintance, known amongst each other, and explains the rules. The rules are very simple—you know this too. And Grian knows them just as well.

He doesn't mean to kill Scar. Not the first time, and he means to turn him away the second time, but he can't bring himself to. There's a look somewhere in there, from his friend. His friend? Was he certain, then, that Scar was just his friend? Or was even his friend at all? There was sand in Scar's bed so they cleaned together and when Scar ached too much to continue he slept in Grian's bed. The desert night was sharp and windy on the cliff and a fire was only so big and Scar was warm enough to sit against without an issue. Grian can't have him though. You know this. Scar is a foil. Much like Jimmy is a foil. Much like Ren is a foil. There is a red and a green, and none of them can be together. Does this look like love, to you?

Scar apologizes when he dies. It's like he forgets that he knows how to hit back—like he forgets that he's larger and stronger and that he could push Grian to the ground with much less force than Grian has to muster to even slam himself into Scar's chest. There's a point where tears are indistinguishable from spit and from blood. You know this—you were there. This story is told many times, again and again. This is not the first time this story is told.

What you might have forgotten is the aftermath. The next try. The way Scar lingers in the frame of Grian next time. The way he tries to come close and holds back, as if he's afraid Grian will sink his teeth into his hand when he extends it.

Grian will see this again. You know this.

When Mumbo trusts enough to reach, he too will find sharp teeth. Grian will ask and beg for companionship and clamp down as soon as he can. Again, and again, and again.

Grian sharpens the edge of his sword.

"Are you thinking about something?" Etho asks, sitting next to Grian on the grass. Grian blinks, coming back into stark reality. He hears Etho's jacket shhf in the breeze as he sits, leaning back against his hands. In some ways, he thinks he wishes he was Etho. The blood on Etho's hands is from a wound he refuses to close. The blood on Grian's hands is from a wound he keeps opening. Does that make sense?

Grian pauses sharpening. The whetstone sits on his knee as he examines his sword, how it glitters just a bit.

"A little," he says, shrugging his shoulders. Etho hums quietly.

"Anything you need to talk about?"

Grian shakes his head, sighing.

"I'm worried about the next week," he says. "I'm worried I know what's coming and I can't stop it."

Etho hums again.

"If it makes you feel any better," he says, reaching out to pat Grian's shoulder. "I think everything will be fine. I trust this."

Etho's hand pulls away from his shoulder as Etho rises. Grian is going to sink his teeth into his hand when the time comes. He can feel the urge tickling the back of his neck. All eyes on him. But you know that, don't you? Somewhere, in the back of his mind, Grian still hopes that this will be different. But doesn't it feel so good to play a role that fits? Don't you know no one gets what they came here for?

So Taskwise, pretty much everybody failed in Session 7 except Scott, right? Almost everybody got rolled up into the big group "zombify the server" task, which was a failure because they didn't manage to catch the last three uninfected players. (Theoretically the players who became red could've abandoned the horde and taken up their red life tasks, but I don't think anybody actually did that.)

Scott managed to successfully collect his bounty of diamonds he did not need before too many people started trying to murder him.

Cleo, upon realizing that both her shoulder angel and devil just wanted her to set people on fire, decided to mostly ignore both of them until they were both turned into zombies and no longer able to instruct her, so that's constructively a fail.

Grian's the interesting case here because he pressed his luck and pressed succeed on what can charitably be described as an edge case. His task was to make a pet of the first mob he saw, take care of it, take it for walks, etc. He failed if the mob died. He went into the Nether and saw a Magma Cube, then cut his footage to killing a bunch of magma cubes, then realized what he'd done, reviewed the footage, and decided that the one he'd seen was actually a different magma cube. That magma cube had despawned by the time he realized what he'd done. He got a different magma cube, dragged it home, named it, and put it in a vivarium, whereupon somebody else killed it into two smaller magma cubes, both with the same name. Etho then killed one of those smaller cubes, leaving Grian with one pet magma cube that was 1/3 of the descendants of a magma cube that was not technically the first mob he saw. But he did work very hard on the task and it was funny, so it might be enough?

(I think Martyn may have also done some tasks, but his tasks are by nature sort of different and harder to track.)

This puts the gang in a weird position for next session. They all spent this entire week causing death, destruction and mayhem with NOTHING to show for it. The secret keepers managed to get them to murder one another gleefully on green and yellow and didn't have to cough up a single reward for it, and I can only imagine that the tasks for next week will be even bloodier. Will they play along again? There is literally _no penalty_ for not doing the tasks, but so far hardly anyone has just said "no way, this is dumb, I'm not gonna." How bad can a task get before people start saying no?

And if Grian does get force-rolled next week, what does a Week 8 hard task look like? Could he even afford to say no to whatever it is, knowing the potential consequences?

I am loving this series, i feel like it’s more lighthearted like Double Life but also on way more crack.
