“You are a kender,” said the Lord of the Cats. “That is enchantment enough.”

The brothers walked up the street, never noticing that the kender was missing until he rejoined them. “Raistlin,” Earwig said, tugging at the mage’s robes. A look of anger flared in the strange, black pupils. “Don’t you dare touch me! Ever!” The mage shoved the kender back. “But I’ve got something for you!” Earwig said. Reaching into his pouch, he pulled out the sextant. The mage brought his hand up over his mouth quickly, putting his fingers over his twitching lips. “Earwig. Where did you get that?” Caramon tried to sound severe. “From the shop, of course,” the kender said, nodding his head. “The owner said you could have it if you promised to return it when you were done.” “Really? And the owner actually said this to you?” “Well, he didn’t actually say it, but I’m sure he would have if he had been in the room.” Raistlin averted his head. His thin shoulders shook, and Caramon could have sworn that his brother was laughing.

“Hey, Caramon, why do all the girls stare at you?” Earwig asked wistfully. When the warrior looked their direction, the women turned red and buried their faces in their hands, giggling at Caramon’s leer and his broad grin. “Probably never seen a sword this big,” said the fighter, winking. Raistlin snorted in contempt.

“Wow! No wonder Caramon likes kissing girls. That’s even more fun than picking a lock!”

And then Tasslehoff told me-- you remember my cousin, Tasslehoff Burrfoot? Anyway, he told me that you always took him with you on your adventures and that he was always getting you out of trouble and since he's not around you should take me to do the same thing.
Earwig Lockpicker, cousin of the kender we all wish was in this story.
