My uncle Rocco 'walked the steel' building the Chesapeake bay bridge. Connecting the eastern and western shores of Maryland. I think of him fondly every time I cross it. He taught me how to clean and cook squid and had me convinced, at the age of 9, that he had a dagger used in the Trojan war. young me was convinced that all the brothers, my grandfather included, were demi gods. They all carried a light and strength that gave me the suspicion zeus had a go with my great grandmother, who gave me my first authentic greek fisherman's cap. She didn't speak a lick of english, but somehow I always felt like I understood her. There was no barrier. Uncle Rocco was proud that he worked on the bridge and I am proud of him every time I drive over it.
