"The time has come for the epoch of world of literature. And everyone must seek to accelerate it." -Johann Wolfgang von Goethe I'm listening to an online course about Ancient World Literature. One of the topics is about Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

The quotation at the top struck me so much. Goethe said this to Johann Peter Eckermann.

I could not blame Eckermann's ignorance at that time. After all, not to mention the prejudice, the boundaries of nations and kingdoms, separated by distance and the language barrier were still hard to cross at that time. There's a limited number of translated novels one could acquire and they could only readily read the works written in the language they're familiar with. There were only a few people like Goethe who would cross the norms and explore a wider horizon and touch the vast knowledge outside the usual. Sadly, though. It's been centuries since Goethe said these words. The distance barrier has long been solved, and thousands of novels had been translated from different languages all over the world. Even so, the prejudice that's keeping people from exploring the beauty of world literature continued to exist even in this day and age when everything has been easily accessible with the help of the internet.

even most lists I can find of specifically new years music—-you know it’s mostly predominantly Christmas and then incidentally new years music. I was talking to a friend about this and she said I’m paraphrasing ‘Christmas is either lights and color and fun or a redemptive story of hope. On the way to the plane for a audition of a "top secret" superhero movie, Daniel dives into the neighborhood restaurant to kill time. There he meets Bruno, someone he initially mistaken for an admirer.

The story is not entirely believable, especially Brunos's detailed knowledge of Daniel's life. And you would assume that at one point Daniel would leave the restaurant for good. But it's enjoyable to watch Brühl and Kurth going at each other. And Brühl making fun of "himself" and superhero movies. It's best to see it as a stage play.

It also makes a good effort to touch upon the social consequences of German re-unification and the effects of gentrification in Berlin.

Since I don't think there will be any kind of sequel, I'm not sure what Vicki Krieps' short appearance at the end was meant to signal.
