There were only ten squads remaining throughout World's Edge, and evidently among them was yours; you couldn't deny that having been paired with such experienced legends as Bloodhound and Wraith had helped a lot, but you didn't deny your own efforts, your squad had positioned itself in Skyhook, you were distanced, each one searching for loot in different buildings.
Your mind wandered between whether you should carry a submachine gun or an assault rifle, whether you should carry more ammo or healing, and whether you should carry a heat shield or a mobile respawn beacon. Your attention wasn't quite on the game, but you still kept your mind alert, realizing that someone had entered the building you were in, you heard their footsteps approaching you, your hand moved to your hip, your fingers gripping the handle of your Wingman. The footsteps only intensified, you pretended not to notice, knowing that if the enemy wanted to attack they would have already done it, what they wanted was to take you by surprise, you felt their presence behind you; it was now or never.
In one quick, graceful movement you turned on your heel, your hand unfolding your gun and pointing it in front of you with a determined look on your face and your finger on the trigger.
— Wow! It's me, it's me!
Your brow furrowed. Mirage froze, your wingman touching the tip of his nose, his hands in the air showing he was unarmed. — Elliott... — You shook your head, your posture relaxing as you realized it was him.
“Did you say something?” You heard Wraith's voice on the communicator, his voice was as neutral as ever, but there was a certain hint of mockery in his tone as if she knew you were not alone.
— Negative. — You replied shortly, trying to hide your embarrassment. Your hand moved to your communicator deactivating it, making sure your team didn't find out about this little interaction with the enemy.
— So... Can you stop pointing the gun at me? — You looked at him again, the nervousness clear in his voice. — Although... You look kinda sexy pointing a gun at me. — You rolled your eyes, one of those cute smiles Mirage loved so much formed on your lips, you retracted your gun, letting your guard down completely in front of Mirage, as usual.
— What are you doing here Witt? — You used his last name, knowing the effect it had on him.
— I came to see you, Fuse and Pathfinder don't seem to mind if I get away for a while. — Slowly you both moved closer to each other without even noticing it or even thinking about it, it was pure instinct.
In a matter of seconds, you were practically on top of each other, Elliott's arms were around your neck and your hands were holding his waist.  — You're going to get yourself killed. — You whispered, your breath crashing against his.
— It will be worth it… — Mirage pressed his lips against yours as if he hadn't kissed you for decades.
Your feet moved awkwardly, desperately seeking support on any surface that crossed your path until Mirage's back finally bumped against one of the walls of the building. You felt the fabric of his suit crumple under your grip, you felt Elliott's fingers tangle in the locks of your hair, clinging to your body, not wanting to let you go, but the oxygen in your lungs was starting to run out, so you were the first to pull away, as always...
Mirage could feel your desperate breathing hit his face, both of you trying to catch your breath, his hands went down to your shoulders, clinging to keep his touch on your body.
— So... — Elliott cleared his throat, trying to shake off the silence of the place. — Are you coming to my party?
 — Of course. — You replied, Mirage bit the inside of his cheek, trying to hold back and not kiss you again.
— You know… — Mirage tried to continue, ignoring the feeling of wanting your lips. — You could get there earlier than everybody else if you want, maybe, you could help me with the decorations, and, you know… — The poor man stumbled over his own words, embarrassed to talk to you as if you hadn't eaten each other just a few seconds ago. — We could spend some time together, alone.
— I'd like that, a lot… — And again, that stupid smile he loved so much appeared again on your face.
[•••]
— So... Who’s coming? — You asked while your fingers lightly traced the edge of your glass.
— Well, I invited everyone, and this time I make sure to send the invitations, so, everyone? — Mirage shrugged as he cleaned a couple of glass cups, standing on the other side of the counter.
You simply hummed in response, leaving Elliott to take care of the last details of the party, you continued to play with your glass, while your eyes turned now and then to Elliott and when they did, you couldn't help but smile, his presence made you feel at peace, even if neither of you spoke or looked at each other, it was perfect.
— I need to use the bathroom. — You mumbled, excusing yourself and getting up from your seat at the counter, walking around Mirage's bar, you'd been there so many times you could walk around with your eyes closed.
Elliott continued with his business, feeling satisfied with everything, he sighed and leaned tiredly on the counter, looking at your half-empty glass, and next to it your cell phone; he smiled to himself while he took your cell phone, taking advantage of your absence, he thought it would be a good opportunity to continue with one of his old habits. He loved taking pictures with your cell phone, and putting himself as your wallpaper; he unlocked your phone and started taking pictures of himself with all kinds of poses and expressions, once he finished he slid down your gallery, smiling at his new addition to your collection. The reflection of the screen illuminated his face, and for a moment he got lost among the pictures, pictures of you, pictures of him, pictures of both of you.
His body startled as he felt your phone vibrate in his hands, notifying him of the arrival of a new message, and Elliott didn't want to see it, he had always respected your privacy, but it was an accident. He watched message after message.
“Hey, r u there?”
“Are you coming to my place again?”
“We need to talk.”
“Never mind, I'll see you at Mirage's party.”
Mirage's stomach heaved painfully as he inevitably read the messages, already creating thousands of stories in his head; he looked at the contact's photo, and it was more than easy to recognize Octavio's profile picture. He looked at the messages over and over again, “Are you coming to my place again?” had you been going to Octavio's place? for how long? why? what for? “We need to talk.” what could you two possibly need to talk about? how long had you been talking?
— Elliott? — Your phone slipped from his fingers at the sound of your voice, his hands trembling nervously as he tried to compose himself. — Were you taking pictures again? — You asked with a small smile, reaching out to pick up your phone that had fallen on the counter, not noticing the way Mirage was looking at you, not noticing how his hands were shaking and how the words were stuck in his throat.
Mirage cleared his throat, trying to find something to say, he didn’t dare to confront you, that was for sure. — Yeah, I was just…
You smiled, you didn't notice the message notifications, instead, you just saw one of the many pictures Mirage had taken on the screen.
— Hey, you look pretty cute in this one. — You said pointing to your phone screen.
It was then that the phone vibrated in your hands again, announcing the arrival of another message, he just looked at you, seeing how your smile faded and your face twisted into an expression he couldn't decipher.
— Something’s wrong? — Elliott asked pretending uncertainty, struggling with his words, trying to get an explanation from you.
— No… Not at all… — You sat back down and focused your attention on your drink, making the heavy feeling in Mirage's chest only grow bigger.
Elliott sighed, this was going to be a long party...
[•••]
Laughter, loud music, and a couple of cheers were all that could be heard at Mirage's bar, surprisingly all the legends had accepted the invitation, except for a few that it was habitual not to see at any party, like Caustic, Ash, or Revenant; but even so, the atmosphere was incredibly cozy and pleasant, but despite that Mirage didn't feel cozy, much less pleasant; he had remained at the counter, handling the drinks as usual, but his partying and charming spirit had disappeared. Instead, the messages you had received ran through his mind over and over again, haunting him.
He turned his head slightly to the right, he could spot your figure, you remained seated in the same place where you were even before the party started, your eyes remained fixed on the screen of your cell phone, and occasionally you looked up to search around the bar, looking for someone and Mirage could imagine who it was.
— Were you expecting someone? — Despite the volume of the music Elliott was close enough to you for you to hear him.
You turned to see him, his question seemed to have taken you by surprise. — No, it's just... — Your words faded out. — I didn't expect to see all the legends here, I didn't remember there were so many of us. — You answered, but Mirage could see that your words were just an excuse.
— Yeah well, not all the legends are here, you know, Revenant, Caustic, and Ash declined the invitation, and Maggie… I'm not sure she's allowed to go to parties... And... — He was silent for a moment, wondering if he should say what he wanted to say so badly.  — Octane! Now that I think about it, it's really weird that he's not here... — He said, pretending not to pay attention to you, as he wiped the counter that was already clean. — He never misses a party…
— Yeah, weird... — You said, but the mention of Octavio seemed to get on your nerves.
And that only made Mirage's chest feel even heavier, he knew you were hiding something, that was for sure, but what were you hiding? what had you so nervous? and how was Octavio involved?
The party kept going and things continued like that, although after your little talk with Elliott, your attempts to find Octavio seemed to have ceased, and even though it shouldn't that soothe him a bit, maybe it was all a misunderstanding, he hoped it was all a misunderstanding.
He looked at you out of the corner of his eye, your elbow was resting on the counter and your hand was holding your chin, your glass was empty, Elliott sighed, even with this torture he was going through he couldn't help but think how pretty you looked.
— Do you want a refill? — You looked up from your empty glass, smiling as you saw Mirage in front of you.
You simply nodded, watching Elliott refill your glass.  — Why haven't you joined the party? — You asked, it was usual that when there was a party at Mirage's bar he was only in charge of serving the drinks at the beginning of the party, after that he would join the party with the other legends.
— Why haven't YOU joined the party? — Mirage returned the question, you rolled your eyes with a small smile on your face, Elliott put your glass in front of you, looking at you with a mocking smile while he waited for an answer, one of his hands on his waist and the other leaning on the counter.
— You know I hate parties. — You said dryly, took your glass, and brought it to your lips, feeling the liquor burning against your throat.
— Then why are you here? — It wasn't an aggressive question, it was more of an affectionate teasing.
You snapped your tongue and kept silent taking another sip from your glass. — Because I like being with you. — You admitted, although it wasn't a secret.
Mirage's teasing smile disappeared, instead, his lips trembled a little before forming a shy smile along with a pretty red color on his cheeks. You reached out your hand, managing to capture his hand between yours and intertwine your fingers with his.
— Do you? do you enjoy being with me? — Elliott's eyes never left your intertwined fingers.
— Yes Elliott. — Your voice was softer at this point, your thumb tracing small caresses on Mirage's hand. Elliott's eyes met yours. — Elliott I… — Only seconds away from making your confession you were interrupted by a lot of shouting and commotion.
You turned, only to see the other legends welcome Octavio, who seemed more than happy with the reception, his gaze turned to the counter, right where you and Mirage were; and Elliott could swear he saw your face turn pale, and then you took your hand away from his.
The cute smile on his face disappeared, as did the warmth in his cheeks, he sighed, feeling the heaviness return to his chest.
— Hey amigos! — From the corner of your eye you saw Octavio's silhouette sitting next to you at the counter. Neither you nor Mirage answered his greeting. — How's the party so far? — Octavio looked at you both, and you just shrugged. — Right… So, can I have a Michelada?
Mirage just hummed, turning around grumpily to prepare Octavio's Michelada, his furrowed brow made his displeasure more than obvious. He muttered a couple of curses between his teeth, at the end the message ended up being true, but the question still stayed unanswered, what did Octane want to talk to you about?
— Here you… Go… — Mirage turned around with the drink in his hands, but his heart stopped in his chest, the seats where you and Octavio were sitting were now empty.
His eyes searched around the bar with some nervousness and anxiety, until he finally managed to spot your figure making his way through the other legends being guided by Octavio; he put the drink aside and jumped the counter without really thinking about his actions for a moment. His feet moved awkwardly across the dance floor, trying to make his way through the other legends and not lose track of you.
His heart was beating fast, his sweat felt cold, and he bit the inside of his cheek anxiously. He kept walking, following the sound of your voices, he could hear you, but he couldn't understand what you were saying until he finally reached one of the storage rooms where he kept supplies for the bar; it was then that he stopped and leaned his back against the wall, listening to your conversation with Octavio.
— This is getting very serious. — Strangely enough, Octavio's voice seemed to be serious.
— I know, and I... I can't continue this without telling Elliott. — Your voice was barely a whisper as if the idea of being heard by someone else scared you.
— Are you sure? I mean, it’s big news, after all, you and I are...
— What? you two are what? — Without even realizing it Elliott had entered the room, desperate for answers.
You and Octavio exchanged glances, both were speechless, and tension quickly built in the room. Your face lost its color, paling, and your lips frowned slightly between surprise and nervousness.
— I think... — Octavio looked at you and Mirage, not knowing what to say, or do, looking for an easy way out of the situation. — I'd go now. — Octane left the room, but Elliott didn't care, he wanted answers from you, not Octavio.
— How much did you hear? — You asked, trying to hide the trembling in your words.
— Enough. — Although it was a lie, he hardly knew what was going on.
— Look Elliott… — You got a little closer to him, looking for a beginning of your explanation.
— No, just tell me what's going on… — His voice seemed so weak and so quietly desperate. — First the messages you had on your phone, then your strange behavior at the party, and then this.
— The messages? did you check my messages? — You weren't angry, just stunned, you didn't think Mirage would be the type to check your chats with other people.
— No, no, no, no, I was just taking pictures and then the messages came in and I read them by accident. — Elliott's hands moved through the air making exaggerated gestures trying to explain himself, even though he wasn't the one who had to explain himself.
You sighed, knowing you had to tell him the truth, you took his arms gently, stopping him from moving, getting him to stop babbling and focus his attention on you again. Your hands went up to his cheeks, holding his face with tenderness and regret for not telling him the truth since long ago.
— I found out that Octavio and I are siblings, half-siblings. — You looked Elliott in the eyes, you could see his jaw drop slightly in surprise and his eyes widen in disbelief, yet he remained silent, letting you continue.  — On our father's side.
The place was completely quiet, you let Mirage assimilate the news. The truth is that Elliott had expected you to tell him you were having an affair with Octavio, but this? Maybe the affair would have been better.
— How? — Was the only thing that came out of his lips.
— How did I find out? or how is it possible that Eduardo Silva is my father?
— Both. — By this point, Mirage's desperation for answers had disappeared, and his heart felt at peace, but now, he was curious, too curious.
— The first one to find out was Ajay, she was experimenting with the DNA of some legends, and I volunteered. She noticed a lot of similarities between my DNA and Octavio's DNA. Then Octavio managed to get DNA from Duardo, and we confirmed our suspicions. — Your lips moved in a strange grimace, almost like you were not proud of what you were telling. — And I, well, I never met my father so...
— You're a Silva… — Elliott remained stunned, yet he seemed to have assimilated the news quickly. — Why didn't you tell me this before? — Mirage's hands moved to his cheeks, holding your hands in his.
— I don't know, I guess I was afraid that your perception of me would change. — You sighed; you hadn't been disappointed to find out that Octavio was your brother, but it was disappointing to learn that a man like Duardo Silva was your father.
— Oh babe, I don't care who your father is. — This time it was Elliott who held your face in his hands. — I only care who you are. — Mirage's voice was so sweet and kind, so understanding. His lips pressed against yours.
Oh, it had only been a few hours since your last kiss but how you had missed his lips, so soft, juicy, and addictive; there was no sensation you longed for more than Mirage's lips on yours, it was a unique sensation that could not be compared to anything else and that could not be matched by any other sensation, not even victory tasted as sweet as his lips.
The kiss started slow, sweet, and tender but it was only a matter of time before it became a heated makeup session, until Mirage broke away.
— Hold on. — His mouth opened in a dramatic pause, and his expression was incredulous. — This means Octavio is my brother-in-law, right?
You rolled your eyes at the panic in his question, but you couldn't hide your smile. — We'll talk about that later, we have better things to do now. — Your hand moved to his hair, tangling your fingers carefully through his brown locks.
Mirage melted between your fingers, you could swear you even heard him purring, the power your hands had over him was undeniable.
— Yeah… Better… Things… To… Do… — Elliott was simply babbling incoherently by this point, too lost in your presence, in your touch, he didn't care who your father was, or who your brother was, he only cared about you.
Your hands clutched at his waist while his hands gripped your shoulders, you both moved around the room clumsily and desperately, your lips caught on each other's lips and little giggles here and there. One of Mirage's feet moved to shut the door making sure no one saw you or interrupted you; none of the other legends knew what happened with you two, all they knew was that you weren't seen at the party for the rest of the night, but you certainly had just as much fun as they did.

I think Jackson should replace Mirage as a funny character who gets hurt in trailers and hardly anyone respects.

IM BACK WITH WIP WEDNESDAY HELLIONS
basically fisher!mirage and fucked up fish guy!octane for this one fellas
-
It’s a quiet life.
Hard work, certainly- even just managing the nets, but repairing the boats, the upkeep of the tools, not to mention sailing itself- exhausting, endless labor, and from it comes enough fish to feed the small seaside town they docked their ships in.
Eliott hated it.
He was lucky to have a job at all, so he tries to stay positive- after all, he was tossed off his travel ship and wound up in this nowhere town without a cent to his name. He enjoys creating lures and new traps to ensnare fish, even crustaceans for bonuses, earning him favor with the boss, but that’s where his enjoyment ends. Maybe occasionally on the water, when the tides are calm and rock the boat gentle as a cradle being swung- but more often than not, it’s water beating against the walls of the boat, leaping onto the ship and soaking everyone below the waist, throwing them around hard enough to upturn Eliott’s stomach. Multiple times.
Eliott knew very well his best chance to find work long enough to survive was at a dock. He’d never fished a day in his life, but he knew all his skills inventing would be a hard sell without proof of his work- which were, currently, half a world away. Because of the whole falling off the ship thing.
Hands burning as he pulls against a net heavier than his own weight with wiggling fish, he stops long enough to sigh, wipe his brow, and give another spirited yank.
He planned on finding a job at some diner, some bar ideally- but as of now, he could barely afford rent in the little shack the boss had offered him when Eliott had explained his situation, let alone clothes that didn’t reek of fish, that were presentable, or- really, if he were being honest, he was so exhausted by his hours fishing he couldn’t fathom taking another job. He would, eventually, but he was only coming up on his second month of living in this wretched bog of a town- he was still adjusting, alright?
That didn’t mean he didn’t spend a plentiful amount of time at the bar- whenever he had some change to spare, he’d sit and nurse the single beer he could afford, and then offer his services for repair. The barkeep was kind enough, and whenever they had work to spare- fixing the washer, the radio, the barmaid- Eliott got to drink free until he was gently persuaded to go home. And then firmly persuaded, because a drunk Eliott was even more hard headed than a sober Eliott.
Which is exactly where he headed after he’d finished his duties for the day, hands raw with budding callouses rubbed raw all over again and much too little in his pocket. His usual sailing partner always tagged along, Walter Fitzroy- he laughed at Eliott poking at his fresh hand wounds, clapped him on the back, and said he’d buy the first round.
Eliott laughed too, and followed his lead.

The Apex games were not an easy thing, even though they might seem so to many of the audience; and despite the name itself, it was no game, jumping from hundreds of meters up, reaching for a weapon as soon as you landed, fighting the other legends, taking all the injuries, working as a team to achieve a victory or lose trying; and then repeating. It wasn't for everyone, it was tiring even for the most veteran legends.
And that was why, despite the circumstances, moments like these were highly appreciated; the legends had decided to throw a party to celebrate Bangalore's decision to stay in the Apex Games. And as usual, Elliott was at the bar handling the drinks.
Mirage hummed to himself a song that had stuck in his mind, he smiled slightly as he polished a glass cup, and despite the simplicity of the task he focused all his attention on it, not even the good music and the good atmosphere of the party managed to steal his attention, but your laughter did.
One of your giggling chuckles reached his ears, he felt his chest warm at the sweet sound of your voice, he put the glass aside and looked around the ship hoping to find you with his gaze, it didn't take him long to find you, you seemed to be having a good time with Horizon and Wattson on the dance floor, a huge smile unconsciously appeared on Elliott's lips, his elbow rested on the bar while his hand was holding his cheek, a small sigh of love leaked through his lips.
— I still can't believe she’s my girlfriend. — He said to himself, too captivated by your beauty to realize that someone else had overheard him.
— Don't worry buddy, you're not the only one who still doesn't believe it. — Mirage jumped in his place, startled by the presence of somebody else.
He quickly cleared his throat and stood straight in place, faking a smile that faded as soon as he visualized the owner of that voice. Crypto remained still with a mocking grin fixed on his face.
— What do you mean I'm not the only one who doesn't believe it? — Mirage placed his hands on his waist, clearly offended and partially intrigued.
— Oh you know… — Crypto shrugged, moving even closer to the bar, placing his glass on the marble counter and giving it a little push towards Mirage. — It's hard for anyone to believe that a beauty like her really laid eyes on… You.
Mirage's expression quickly changed to furrowed brows, he opened his mouth, ready to reply to that, but the words didn't come out of his mouth, his stomach twisted unpleasantly and a strange feeling filled his chest; Tae Joon tilted his head forward, waiting for an answer, it was obvious that he simply wanted to annoy Mirage.
— Hey amigos! — One more voice joined the conversation, Elliott let out all the air he didn't even know he was holding in. — What are you talking about? — Octavio tried to enter the discussion, his voice seemed more excited and cheerful than usual, just like Crypto he placed his glass on the bar waiting for a refill.
— Nothing, I was just letting Mirage know how lucky he is to be with someone like (y/n). — Elliott rolled his eyes, grumpily grabbed both glasses and refilled them, hoping that this way both men would get back to the party.
— I have to agree, I can't believe one of the hottest girls in the outlands chose him over me. — A huge laugh filtered through Octavio's mask.
The truth was that, as much as Mirage tried to hide it, such comments were more common than he would like, and they hurt, a little too much.
Despite the feeling of sadness in his heart, he decided to disguise it. — I don't know what you're talking about, I'm as good as anyone, no, I'm not, I'm better, but you guys aren't ready for this conversation. — He placed both glasses on the bar, thinking that would be the end of the conversation, however, neither man seemed to have any intention of leaving.
— If you say so... — Crypto took his glass and brought it to his lips, enjoying the slight taste of alcohol, and then placed his glass back on the bar. — But if I were you, I'd try harder, it seems the new guy gets along with her pretty well.
— What?... — Mirage asked in disbelief.
The three young men turned to the dance floor, you looked as stunning as always, but you seemed to have found yourself a dance partner. The new legend, Newcastle, had managed to captivate the rest of the legends and apparently you as well. Mirage's heart dropped in his chest at the sight of you, you looked so happy, for a moment he wondered if you also looked that happy when you were with him.
His lips remained slightly open, waiting for something to come out of his mouth, but nothing happened, he just stood there speechless, feeling his heart squeeze in his chest, suddenly the music of the party was completely silenced, and all he could hear were the voices in his head shouting every one of his insecurities, but they were quickly silenced when he felt his body destabilize thanks to the turbulence of the ship.
"Approaching drop zone", the announcement echoed throughout the ship bringing him back to the game, the jump platforms began to descend from the floor of the ship, Octane and Crypto were no longer by his side; he frenetically looked at all the screens of the ship trying to find himself and discover who will be his teammates; his eyes glowed when he saw the image of your beautiful face next to his on the huge screens, an indicator that you would be together in this match.
The negative thoughts that were consuming him seconds ago disappeared to make way for the excitement he felt in his chest to be part of your squad, he didn't even bother to check who would be the third member of the squad, as soon as he saw your image he started to seek your figure among the multiple legends that were moving from one side to another like him trying to get to his squad. He was able to find you in a matter of seconds, his eyes locked on your figure, his body began to move on its own, making its way until finally, he was only centimeters away from you.
Eliott hopped onto the jumping platform you were on, the sound of his landing was enough to make you turn to him. — Hello beautiful. — Your face brightened at the sight of your lover. — It seems to be your lucky day, because Mirage is on your team. — Despite the confidence with which his words left his lips, inside he felt like he was going to fall to his knees for standing before you.
A small chuckle left your lips, your body moved by inertia, shortening the distance between his body and yours, your arms wrapped around his shoulders, you were able to feel his body tensing under your touch. — It seems so… — Your faces were only inches away from touching and that only increased Elliott's nervousness, it had been a while since you started dating and you still had that effect on him.
His hands moved awkwardly to your waist, as he tried desperately to suppress his nervousness. — Now that you're here, I had no doubt that we will win. — One of your hands moved to his cheek, Mirage let himself be carried away by the warmth of your skin, his wild heart seemed to find calm and his nervousness disappeared completely, after all, he knew that you loved him. — You look very handsome today, I could eat you up with kisses. — You said flirtatiously.
Elliott swallowed hard, your comment had caught him off guard. — Really?... — He asked doubtfully, but at the same time anxious and shyly desperate for your lips.
— Really… — You could feel the heat of his lips, only a ridiculously small distance separating the two of you.
Elliott’s heart was beating wildly inside his chest, its palpitations were so strong he could swear you could feel it, he closed his eyes, waiting for the impact of your lips on his, but instead, the only impact he felt was the ship destabilizing once again, this time without giving him a chance to stabilize himself, the weight of his body dragging him backward, his feet were on the edge of the jump pad and his poor balance added to the movement of the ship prevented him from recovering his stability. Fortunately for him, a strong grip was placed on his right arm, and he was dragged roughly back to safety.
— Hey, I like your excitement, but you could have waited for me before jumping in. — Mirage's spirits dropped to the floor when he recognized that voice, but your own seemed to rise with the arrival of the third member of the squad. Newcastle turned to you and smiled kindly. — Hey little one. — Newcastle looked at the map, glancing at each of the possible landing points. — So, what's the plan?
— Well, umm... — Mirage babbled. — We were, we were working on that just before you showed up.
A short chuckle left Jackson's lips, knowing quite well that the two of you were more focused on eating each other. — What about there? — Newcastle pointed to one of the nearby points of Storm Point waiting for an answer from you.
Mirage looked at the spot, not too sure of the choice knowing that most teams would most likely land there.
— That's good enough for me. — You replied, without giving either of them enough time to protest you took enough strength and jumped into the sky confident of winning the game with your team.
Both men simply watched you descend.
Jackson laughed watching your figure get more and more faded due to the altitude.— I like her energy. — Elliott snorted at the comment, but Jackson didn't seem to notice. Following in your footsteps, the new legend leaped to finally drop down.
With no other choice, Mirage finally jumped in after the two of you, wishing the match would end as soon as possible so he could once again find himself in the warmth of your arms.
[•••]
Even though the start of the match had been rough, your squad had managed to place in the top four squads, you and Newcastle had done your best to take out as many enemies as possible, while Elliott seemed to be in his own world, by this point he had been knocked down on four separate occasions, and while he couldn't deny that he loved the attention you gave him when he was injured, he couldn't stand to see how Newcastle had done more for the team than he had; or worse, he couldn't stand to see how you and Newcastle managed to work so well together without even trying.
“Final round - Beginning Ring countdown.”
— Well, it looks like we have this match in the bag. — You agreed with Jackson, at this point you weren't willing to lose.
"Finally" was all Elliott could think, just a couple more teams and this would be over. Finally, it could be just you and him alone, cuddling on his couch, inside the comfort of his room, sharing some victory kisses, getting your whole attention, and again, he sank into his mind, standing still with a smitten smile on his face.
— Elliott! Look out! — His body snapped out of surprise, being brought back to reality by your voice. As quickly as you could you grabbed his arm and pulled him to you, moving him from his place, a place that in a matter of seconds was hit by dozens of bullets.
An enemy team had found you, and certainly, the terrain was not to your advantage, there was nowhere to take cover, and running didn't seem to be an option, fortunately, Jackson was prepared. — Clamping down so we can fight on. — As quickly as the shots were fired his wall was already deployed in front of you effectively covering you from the enemy.
You knelt, a shiver running through your body as your back touched the coldness of the wall, Elliott was still in your arms, certainly comfortable but stunned at the same time. — Are you okay? — You asked quickly examining his body for injuries, but he looked fine.
— Yeah I just… — He cleared his throat, pulling himself together and getting back in the game. — I'm fine. — His voice was low, apologetic that he had almost been knocked down again.
You smiled sweetly at him, held his cheek tenderly, and left a small kiss on his forehead. A sigh left your lover's lips at your touch, he could feel his face burning as he melted into your touch, but as much as you both wanted to stay that way for the rest of the day you both had something to do.
You stood up with Mirage following you, you turned to Jackson who was already firing.
— Thank you so much. — You thanked him, without his wall you would probably have been eliminated already. — I have to admit that was pretty cool. — You complimented him, trying to be kind.
Newcastle just looked at you smiling, taking the compliment with pride. — As long as you're near me, you're safe.
The happiness Mirage had felt just a few seconds ago was gone again, but why? Why did it bother him so much to see how you smiled at Jackson and how he smiled back at you? Well, it was probably because he was a mess in every way, while Newcastle seemed to be the complete opposite, strong, calm, quick, naturally funny, and charming.
That was when Crypto's words echoed in his head, and perhaps, he wanted to agree with him, why had you chosen him? You could have chosen Octavio, who is a millionaire and a huge internet celebrity, or maybe Fuse who was charming and funny, or possibly even Bloodhound who while reserved would surely be a passionate lover, or even Crypto, who was extremely bright and always seemed to be right. But why him?
Mirage growled under his breath, knowing that this was no time to drown in his insecurities, he made up his mind, he could be cool too, but maybe this wasn't the best time to be cool. He slipped out of the wall, running in the middle of the open field in clear sight, he heard you screaming his name, but he didn't stop, he activated his ultimate, hiding among the multiple holograms that looked just like him; a smile spread across his face as the enemy team hit his holograms instead of him, he continued on his way, managing to position himself behind the enemy without being noticed, or so he thought, he pointed his weapon, ready to attack, but someone was faster than him.
Revenant had knocked him down in just a few seconds. — Damn it. — He whispered under his breath, completely frustrated by his poor performance, but mostly disappointed with himself.
And as expected Revenant showed no mercy, executing Elliott and enjoying his elimination.
Despite Mirage's plan failing, the distraction was enough for you and Jackson to close in and take down Revenant's companions, and eventually, you took down the simulacrum without any trouble at all.
— Oh Elliott… — You said saddened as you recovered your sweetheart's banner, there was no respawn beacon available, so now it was just the two of you. You would have loved to reach victory along with your beloved trickster.
[•••]
Once again the music inundated the dropship, the match was over, and indeed, your squad had come out on top, the party continued, this time, the atmosphere was calmer and more relaxing because it was the end of a long day.
And yet, despite the atmosphere of the place, Mirage couldn't help but sink into his sadness, it was so uncharacteristic of him. You knew something was wrong, but when you tried to talk to him he denied it and insisted that you enjoyed the party. And you tried, knowing that maybe that wasn't the time to talk, but it killed you to see him like that, you stopped to watch him from the dance floor, you felt your heart clench to see him like that, you needed to do something, you needed him to be okay.
Witt sighed once more, his eyes fixed on his hands resting on the bar, his questions and insecurities kept replaying in his mind over and over again, his thoughts were so strong that he didn't even realize you had approached him.
Your hand moved to his shoulder getting his attention, his eyes lit up at the sight of you, but the reflection of his sadness was still there.
— Oh, hey babe! — He straightened up in his chair, trying to hide his sorrow, multiple babbles began to leave his lips, trying to distract you from his current state.
— Elliott. — Your voice finally quietened him, he looked you in the eye, knowing there was nothing he could do to hide anymore, your hands moved to his cheeks, holding his face.  — What's wrong? — You asked in a whisper, trying to bring him peace, you examined his face, looking for any hint of anything.
Mirage closed his eyes, thinking about how to say what he was feeling, somewhat embarrassed to say it out loud. — Why? why me? — He questioned you, his voice trembling with each syllable.
— What? — Your eyebrows twitched in confusion.
— Why did you choose me? why do you love me? do you really... love me? — Elliott's voice quickened with each question, afraid to know the answers.
You stood still for a few seconds, causing Witt's anxiety to only increase.
— Oh Elliott… — Your face softened, your thumb began to trace small circles on your boyfriend's skin.  — Is that what this is all about?
Mirage barely nodded, hoping that your words might ease the weight on his heart.
— Throughout my life I have doubted many things, but I have never doubted my love for you. — Mirage's shoulders slumped in relief, he felt his heart's heaviness grow lighter and lighter. — You are the only one for me Elliott, there is no more charismatic, funny, passionate, handsome, talented, smart, and braver man than you.
Elliott could feel his heart ease at your words, a huge sigh of relief left his lips, letting out the air he had been holding, the sadness faded from his eyes and he finally sank into your touch, his hands moved to rest on yours that still held his cheeks; his heart was now calm.
A smile came across your face, a small chuckle slipped through your lips, Mirage's eyes widened with curiosity. — Banana brain you’re the apple of my eye. — You teased him affectionately, using the nickname you used sometimes when he was being "silly". — Baby you were sent to me.
Elliott's cheeks flushed red, but he still couldn't help smiling. This time, tired of waiting, he decided to take the initiative, reached up to your face from his seat, and captured your lips in a kiss that you instantly reciprocated. Witt's hands left your hands to move to your waist, you could taste the alcohol on his lips but you couldn't recognize what kind of drink it was. You wanted more, you wanted to taste every corner of his mouth, your stomach fluttered with excitement as your tongue begged for permission to enter Elliott's mouth, and of course, Witt didn't resist you.
Your tongue pushed inside him, tasting your boyfriend's mouth, a small moan broke from Elliott's lips at the familiar sensation of your tongue, you felt his hands tremble with excitement at your waist.
Your breathing became frenetic, almost desperate, your body wrapped in a familiar warmth. You felt the air slowly leave your lungs, but your lips refused to let go of Elliott's lips. Finally, you pulled away just a couple of inches, loudly exhaling all the air you needed; you looked at Elliott, his face was dyed bright red, and his chest was rising and falling trying to catch the air he had lost.
Your eyes remained fixed on him, admiring the handsomeness of your boyfriend. — Stay with me tonight… — You whispered, longing for this moment with him to last forever. — Cause I'm having the best time of my life. — You smiled, noticing the little sparkle that lit up his eyes.
You went back to his lips, your hands moved to his hair, tangling your fingers in his brunette locks. You felt Elliott's fingers cling to your waist, you were both thirsty for more, but making out in the middle of a party with all the legends around might not have been the best option.
Elliott broke off abruptly. — Can we go somewhere more private? — He mumbled shyly, his heavy breathing making it difficult for him to articulate the words. — Please... — He begged anxiously for more than your lips.
You smiled mischievously, knowing perfectly well where this was going. — Your room then. — You quickly pecked his cheek, grabbed his hand, and started walking with him behind you as you made your way to his room, no doubt, the best time of your life.
