Does Pierre have a backstory? Does he get legs or does he always have a tail?

[Pardon me as I scream for a minute because I always get SO HAPPY when people show interest in my OCs! AAAAAAAAAA-]

Pierre doesn't have a proper backstory yet, but here's some info about him! (and a chibi drawing);

Pierre is a 27-year-old autistic metalhead.

He works as a hairdresser. It's pretty ironic, considering how his own hairstyle looks like...

He's a trans man and currently questioning his sexual/romantic orientation. (He's in the progress of figuring out that he's at least on the asexual spectrum and attracted to men.)

He's tall and tends to have bad posture. His quietness and general looks also make him seem a bit intimidating, but he's very compassionate, cares deeply about other merfolk around him and is passionate about his interests.

Despite of usually being quiet, he loves to talk about plants, algae, metal music and philosophy. He also tends to hum and sing to himself when he feels comfortable.

He doesn't like it when people scream or talk loudly. Ironically, loud music is usually fine (because he can control the volume himself).

About the tail question;

In my OC world, the merfolk are able to switch between a full tail and legs (+ a small tail on their lower back). This transformation can be controlled by owning a tiny magical pearl that's been activated with the blood of the individual merperson who wants to use the pearl for transforming. If the pearl gets lost, the merfolk can easily just buy a new one and get it activated again with their blood. It's a sort of modern fantasy setting!

I haven't drawn a proper pic of Pierre with legs, but here's another OC of mine, Neyr, demonstrating the two forms my merfolk have:

Also fun fact; merfolk tend to buy pearls that are the same color as their eyes are! This is not necessary, but it's more like a custom. So Neyr's pearl is pink and Pierre's pearl is red-ish brown (and I have never drawn him wearing the pearl as I've just realized LMAO)!

So how does Lukas feel about being turned into a merman? Does he like it, hate it or not really mind either way?

He's terrified of it. It forces him to go hiding, because the witch (Neva) who turned Lukas into a merman did so to force him do a task for him. Lukas doesn't want anything to do with that.

I'm planning on making a comic, so I can't reveal too much about the story! But Lukas is a very regular type of guy, and he would like it to stay that way. He would love to live his life in peace, but ends up in this situation where his normal life changes completely.

More character expressions! Sort of a continuation from these previous ones I made of Neva.

This time I decided to draw the other two main characters from this story of mine as well! The unfortunate main character, Lukas, who gets turned into a merman, and the himbo love interest, Marco, who really just wants to enjoy life.

...Also one furious Neva there as well, who is the villain witch who turns Lukas into a merman in the first place.

I’m wondering if you were to do an ask blog featuring your OCs.

I haven't thought of that! O:

I haven't made much OC content in the past years due to being so hyperfixated on Pokémon (and Overwatch earlier), but I do love my OCs very dearly and I'd love to draw them more and write about them. ;v;

I'm sometimes unsure if people would like to see more OCs. But then again, when I asked my mutuals on twitter what they'd like to see me draw more, surprisingly many said "OCs"!

Would anyone else be interested in such a thing? Either seeing more OCs in general or even an ask blog for them (or something similar)?

Does Lukas need freshwater or saltwater or can he tolerate both?

I can see him tolerate both, but I imagine he much prefers freshwater or at least brackish water. European perch thrive in mostly freshwater, but they can be met in some brackish water areas as well (think of the Baltic sea and estuaries for example).

How long can mer! Lukas stay out of water? Would he start drying out after a while?

I haven't thought about exact times, but technically Lukas is able to stay out of water forever when it comes to breathing. However, his skin and especially the tail part needs moisture, so he needs to be in water-- I'd say like at least every day? Dry skin gets uncomfortable for him and in the long run might even start cracking, causing injuries.

How was Lukas transformed into a merman? Was it like a curse, or did he make a deal or something Ursula-style?

This will obviously be in more detail in the comic; All Neva the witch had to do with his powers was to fool Lukas into wearing a fake tail (the kind you can swim in) and then get close enough to touch it. He cursed Lukas and fused him with the tail, thus making it real.

The fusing was actually the first idea I got, and I then started to build the story around that concept! c:
