An Interlude in the Desert (Find me if you can!)
So my brain was nice enough to pop out a new outfit idea for Khepri and I wanted to record it before I forgot. Disclaimer that I am in no way a writer, but it does share a bit of what Khepri has been up to since Endwalker.
Khepri breathed in the dry dusty air around him. It was such a change from the wet humidity of the island but refreshing in it's own way. He wiped at his sweaty brow, heavy fringe having gotten longer. His hair had some wave to it now, bits and pieces braided with bright threads (Raha's doing). He had been loathe to leave their quiet island paradise but the time had come. At first it had just been Raha, Nai and him but over time their friends had trickled in. While friends were always welcome, their various requests for assistance were not, not to mention the messengers that had come with the same. He knew he was still the Warrior of Light in his own way and he had a calling to serve the greater good…but he deserved a break. So he'd left the island in the care of the mammets and headed out towards Rhalgr's Reach. It was time he paid an old miqo'te friend there a visit, not to mention Lyse and M'naago. He just so happened to be taking the long way on foot from Ul'dah. Carby had quite loudly protested this the day before, happy to take a perfectly good aetheryte. Khepri had resisted, telling his vulpine companion it had grown spoiled over their months on the island. Thus Carby was ignoring him somewhere in the aetherial rift while Cheeto happily trotted behind him. Cheeto being a chocobo and all had missed the wide open expanses as much as his caretaker.
Khepri was thankful for the coverage of his newly acquired cloak to block out the brightness of the sun. He'd asked a favor from Tataru a while back for new traveling clothes. The ones he'd worn at the edge of the Universe now brought back too many memories. Too many almost losses. She'd delivered tenfold as always, it was like she'd reached into his own head.
The cloak was an off white with a large hood, shades lighter than his own horn and scales. It was embroidered with golden suns and moons along the edge and cut into bell sleeves gathered at the wrist. Circular cutouts along his shoulders and arms provided ventilation over a crop top of the same off white. Around his neck sat the same simple necklace of moons and stars in silver and gold his mother had given to him all those years ago. Passed down in his family to honor Azim and Nhaama. Around his hips sat a heavy brown leather belt with pockets for a series of vials on his left hip and his grimoire strapped to his right.
Below that was a pair of white shorts covered by a skirt over it that hit half way down his thigh. A slit inched up the left hand side to reveal the shorts beneath and allow for easy movement. Brown lace up leather sandals completed the look, a surprising sidestep from his former heeled boots. Tataru had taken his concerns into mind when he'd said breathable and he appreciated it. Ahhh and not to forget a twisted wooden staff that doubled as both help on rockier terrain and to hit any enemies with if they came too close. The ensemble felt like a good start to a new chapter.
He continued onward at a steady pace, he could tell it was only a few hours from sunset. When the messengers inevitably found him at the Reach he would probably visit the First. Ha! He grinned to himself, see if they could follow him across shards. He thought not.

the previous post just turned into me gushing about scifi fashion design choices but really I just wanted to talk about some bold new aesthetics I came up with that I think we should try to explore:
- Meiji Cowboy: a new take on Meiji era fashion that blended “western” style clothing with Japanese clothing construction, but with more denim and fringe
- Choirpunk: it’s the dystopian future and now you have to DIY your punk clothes out of old clergy vestments. DIY “stained glass” style jewelry made from broken bottles and shit. Idfk. (I guess this one basically already exists via fetishwear, but I think there’s potential with the Flying Nun style habits. mostly I’m just looking for a reason to use church brocades lmfao)
- EGOL (‘elegant gothic office lady,’ a play on EGL (Elegant gothic Lolita); this one is sort of like corporate goth in spirit, but I want blazers with epaulettes, modern/futuristic fabrics with Victorian-style cuts and tailoring.)
- Gilliesuit Chic: I’m picturing like, jackets with arms from Gillie suits. Bell bottoms with the bell of the pant made of this disgusting fabric. Maybe just like as a shoulder accent. Like a capelet.
- Karneval Casual: more than anything, I’m thinking about those neon feathers and the fringe you see from Rio. Incorporate those shapes and textures into some dailywear. I feel like I don’t need to explain this one.
- Castaway Chic: a gown made out of an old parachute. Wearing one of those airplane floatation vests as fashion. Literal fish net top, maybe even wearing one as a fun little skirt. Those mesh water shoes, but extended into knee high boots. Divesuit under a crop top and cargo shorts. Fish lure jewelry. You could also call this “Waterworld chic.”
- Boilersuit Lolita: workman style coveralls made from Lolita designer print fabric, trimmed with bows and frills and lace. Heart belt buckle. Name tag patch with the brand name embroidered on it. Little white gloves with bows on them and a scalloped lace wrist. Sort of a metacommentary on the commodification of working-class aesthetics while also a jab at the fact Lolita is so incredibly impractical as a lifestyle fashion. IDK. is this anything.
- Powersuit Cyborg: a reboot of the classics. Bring back the big shoulder pad blazers, add circuit board prints to the linings. Maybe that puffer coat style ribbing as an accent. Microchip cuff links. Earrings made from old connector wires. Those big visor style sunglasses. Leather half gloves. Tuxedo stripe pants where the stripes look like rainbow ribbon cables. High heel loafers with a stacked CYM block heel. Bold lipstick. Teased hair.

--
It soon became clear that Lily was a hopeless cook. She never had to cook for herself at her father’s house. Even after he had lost his money they still had at least one servant to cook for the family. Plus, her mother certainly never taught her how to fry an egg or bake bread. She never wasted her time on such domestic duties. So, after Lily burned yet another roast in the kitchen’s large iron oven, Severus decided to procure a maid.
She came to them during Lily’s first week at the new house. Lily recognized the small girl from the day of her engagement at Tobias Snape’s house. She introduced herself as Mary Macdonald, a local girl from the village down the road.
Severus also hired a local boy as a farmhand for the property’s sprawling fields. His name was Remus, and to Lily’s dismay, he slept in the barn loft a hundred paces from the house.
“Surely he’ll freeze out there,” she had pleaded with Severus when the boy came to work for them.
Severus smirked. “Nonsense. He’s just a poor boy from the village, I should think he’d be used to such conditions. Won’t you, boy?”
Remus nodded curtly, not meeting Severus’ eyes. Lily surveyed the boy curiously. He looked lean but strong, with sandy brown hair and a large scar that sliced his right cheek She wondered how a poor farm boy had come to have such a prominent mark.
“Anyway,” Severus continued, turning back to Lily, “I hired him in part to guard my affairs when I am away from my home, but I do not think it would be proper for him to sleep here in the same house as my wife. Although look at him, it’s not as if he’s much of a threat.” He smirked again. His dull teeth looked yellow against his pale skin. “You don’t seem like much of a ladies’ man, boy.”
Remus shook his head once. Lily frowned. “I don’t think there’s any need for talk like that.”
Severus jerked his head around to face her, surprise and anger etched into his face. “I don’t believe my talk is any of your concern, wife.”
Lily said nothing but did not break Severus’ gaze. He often spoke to her like this, reminding her of her place as his wife, not his partner. But she had not yet found Severus to be a cruel man. He even showed her a few kindnesses. One evening he even brought her a new cloak from his father’s inventory. The cloak was fine quality and kept the heat from her body close to her skin as she traipsed through the snowy forest.
However, Severus was also sullen and mirthless. He rarely laughed, and when he did it was a humorless sound. He smirked when she did not know the name of some lord he had visited that day for work or sneered when he heard that a rival trader had died of old age.
Fortunately, Lily did not have to speak with her husband often. She spent her days exploring the land, weaving in between the trees and tracing paths along the stream that ran through the forest. Soon she was able to map the land in her head. She knew what short cuts would get her to the forest the quickest and that the stream flowed in the opposite direction of her house.
Severus still spent most of his days at his father’s house learning his trade and Lily was free to roam the forest just as she had the day she found the hawthorn.
Weeks had passed and she had not been able to find the tree again. She tried to retrace the magic in the earth but the ground grew frozen and dead once more. When she removed her shoes and placed her feet upon the snow it was bitterly cold and burned the soft skin under her toes. Still, she walked for as long as she could stand barefoot, hoping to feel the snow grow warm beneath her once more.
One day, as she walked through the forest barefoot, she cut her foot open on a large jagged rock. “Shit,” she muttered and shuffled across the path to a tree stump. There she sat and examined the damage.
The cut was long, but not deep. A thin trail of blood snaked down her heel and dropped into tiny pinpricks of crimson against the snow. Nothing she couldn’t manage.
Lily closed her eyes, trying to block out all sound, thoughts, or emotions surrounding her. When she felt her mind clear and her body vibrate with energy, she pressed her palm against the bloody cut. She held her hand there for a few moments, then pulled away to examine her work. The skin began to knit itself back together slowly. Soon there was no sign of the cut at all.
She glanced around quickly but saw no one. The woods were always deserted, but she still felt better knowing for sure that no one had seen her heal. The villagers did not trust magic, and she was sure that her husband would be livid if he witnessed what she had just done.
Lily sighed and began to lace her feet back into her boots. She knew that she must begin her long walk back to the house. It was nearly dark, and Severus often grew suspicious when she returned late. She stood up and smoothed her long cloak, disappointed that she had been unable to locate the hawthorn yet again.
The walk back to the house was slow work. She often had to stop and wrestle her cloak back from the thistles that grew between the large oak trees. The sun began to dip below the horizon just as she reached the edge of the woods. She stood panting for a moment, pulling a twig from her long braid, and gazed towards the cottage. She saw smoke rising from the chimney and silently thanked Mary for the warm fire that she must have built. Suddenly, Lily heard rustling leaves behind her and whirled around.
The stag stood across a clearing from her and was partially obscured behind a thick tree trunk. His eyes always startled her a bit. They were huge, deep brown, and vaguely familiar.
Lily let out a deep breath and fixed the stag with a bemused expression. “You again,” she called out to him across the clearing, “I’m never quite able to get rid of you, am I?”
The stag cocked his head to the side in response. She often found herself wondering if the animal could understand her speech. This was the fourth time she had run into the beast in the forest. The second time she had still been afraid of his powerful form and sharp antlers. The third time she had stroked the soft fur on his face once more. This time, she was not afraid in the slightest. If the stag wanted to hurt her he would have done so already.
--
The next afternoon found Lily sitting by the fireside attempting to embroider a scrap of fabric. She’d picked up this new hobby out of sheer boredom. Outside the snow fell so thickly that she couldn’t quite bring herself to leave the comfort of the fireside to explore the woods today. She paused her needle and examined her work so far. Her first attempt at art was a bright yellow daisy, except it looked more like a bright yellow worm.
Lily threw down the embroidery hoop and stretched, frustrated at how cooped up she felt. As she stretched she glanced out the window. A hooded figure walked down the lane in front of the house. She wore thick woolen mittens and carried a basket of what looked like holly branches.
At that moment, Mary entered the sitting room. She shuffled over to the fire and placed another log on top of the dying flames.
“Mary, I wish you would let me do that,” Lily called to her, “I’m perfectly capable.”
Mary smiled sweetly at her. “Master Severus would not like it, ma’am. I’m to make sure you are well taken care of while he’s away.”
Lily gestured around the room. “Look at me. I’m warm, I’m fed, I’m content. I’d say your job is done.”
Mary looked as if she didn’t know what to say to that. Lily sighed. She hadn’t quite been able to break through Mary’s sweet exterior to see who lay beneath, but perhaps she would with time.
“Mary,” she called before the girl could leave the room, “do you see that woman outside?”
Mary glanced out the window. She blanched when her gaze fell upon the old woman.
“Oh, you’d best keep your distance, ma’am. ‘Tis a witch.”
“A witch?” Lily glanced back at the woman. The woman looked perfectly ordinary. “What makes you say she is a witch?”
Mary shrugged. “It’s known in the village, ma’am. She gathers herbs and plants in the forest and uses them to curse all who cross her.”
Lily laughed. “Herbs and plants aren’t dangerous, they’re useful. Perhaps this woman uses her concoctions to help people.”
This was the wrong thing to say. Mary sniffed and smoothed out her skirts. “Is that all, ma’am?”
“Yes,” Lily smiled sadly, “of course. Thank you, Mary. You may take for the rest of the afternoon for yourself.” Mary curtsied, looking confused, and backed out of the room.
Lily eyed her needlework. Her craftsmanship was pathetic, but there was nothing else to do, so she resumed her work. An hour later her fingertips were red raw and covered in small spots of blood where she had pricked herself.
The kitchen door, visible to Lily from her spot in the sitting room, banged open, letting in a thick cloud of snowflakes. Remus did his best to stamp his boots on the landing before trudging into the house, but he still tracked large snowy footprints across the floor. Another man carrying firewood trailed behind. He had shoulder-length black hair that was flecked with snow and he wore a coat made of shaggy, black animal fur. He was also laughing.
“Blimey,” he chuckled, “that master of yours, he’s a riot. Did you see him trip over that snowbank out back? What a tosser.”
Remus cleared his throat loudly. “This is my mistress, Lady Lily. M’lady, please excuse the interruption. My master hired these men for labor and told us to replenish your firewood.”
“Thank you, Remus, but you are interrupting nothing.” Lily faced the newcomer, “welcome, sir. What is your name?”
The man grinned broadly. He was quite handsome. “Sirius, m’lady. I’m sorry that I spoke freely about your husband. He is a… fine man.”
Lily hid her smile. “I think you’ll find that you may speak freely in front of me, Sirius. Please, have a seat, warm yourself.”
Sirius’ face broke into a wide smile. “Much obliged,” he said, collapsing onto the couch across from Lily and put his feet up on the sitting-room table. Remus paled.
“My lady,” he said, his voice pleading, “I do not think Master Severus would approve-”
“Nonsense,” Lily smiled, “he said himself that I have run of the house while he is gone. Besides, I’ve been bored all day, and a new face is a rare treat. Please, Remus, sit if you wish.”
Remus looked unsure. He compromised by standing awkwardly between Sirius and Lily, his hands outstretched to warm in the fire’s glow.
“So, Sirius,” Lily turned to face her guest, “tell me about yourself. Do you live in the village?”
Sirius laughed. “No, lady, I do not. I live in the forest.”
“The forest?” she frowned slightly. She’d never seen another soul in the forest during her many daytime walks.
“Yes, I live there with my brother. We often hunt and forage for food, but some necessities require common money, so we take odd jobs to make ends meet. That is how I came to your house today. I was just telling Ja-”
The door banged open once more. Severus’ gaze fell upon the scene, Remus warming himself by the fire and Sirius sitting on the couch with his feet up. Anger sparked in his face.
“Black,” he hissed dangerously, “what do you think you are doing?”
Sirius quickly swung his feet off the table and to the floor. “Apologies, Severus, your wife invited me to sit with her.”
Severus’ eyes narrowed. “That’s ‘Master Severus,’ boy. Know your place. How dare you sit in my home in your filthy pelts, how dare you speak to my wife.”
“Severus,” Lily said angrily, “I hardly think that’s neces-”
“Quiet,” Severus snapped at her. Lily opened her mouth to retaliate but instead gasped.
Another man entered the house behind her husband. He had untidy black hair, dark skin, and deep brown eyes. It was his eyes that startled her. She was sure she’d seen them before.
Lily stared at the new man, and the man stared back at her nervously. “Erm,” he stuttered, blinking rapidly, “Hello, I’m James, er, m’lady.”
Lily realized too late that she was staring at James. Severus’ eyes had grown dark with malice as he watched his wife. He glanced between Lily and the new man, recognition dawning in his face. Then, he spun around to face Sirius again.
“You,” he spat, “get out of my house. You and your brother have exactly one minute to get as far away from this property as possible, is that clear? There will be no payment for you, either of you, today.”
Sirius stood from the couch. He was shorter than Severus by a few inches, but his gaze was still threatening enough to make her husband tremble slightly. “Look mate, fire us if you want, but at least pay us for our work as an honest man would.”
Severus took a step back from Sirius and pointed toward the door. “Go. Take him,” Severus pointed at the man with the deep brown eyes, “with you. Never darken my doorstep again if you know what’s good for you.”
Sirius chuckled mirthlessly. “Is that a threat, ‘my lord’?”
“Sirius,” James crossed the room and grabbed Sirius by the upper arm, “come on, it’s not worth it.”
“I disagree,” Sirius smirked Severus.
“Sirius,” James said, his voice low and dangerous, “now.”
Sirius relented and made to leave with James. Then, as though he suddenly changed his mind, he turned back and spat on the floor at Severus’ feet. “We will remember this.”
Severus looked ashen. He watched the men leave, his chest heaving as though he had run a long distance. Sirius walked out the door but James looked back once, smiled at Lily, then followed his brother out into the winter storm.
Severus strode across the room and grabbed Lily by the arm. “Do you know that man?”
Lily struggled but his grip tightened vice-like on her elbow. “No, Severus, I swear I do not!”
“Do not lie to me!” he roared, eyes wild with rage, “You’ve seen him before, I know it. Does he come here when I am away?”
“No!” Lily yanked her arm out of his grip, “I’ve never seen that man in my life. Control yourself.”
Severus looked livid. He raised his hand as if to strike. Lily closed her eyes and raised her arms to cover herself.
Suddenly, a burst of energy seemed to shoot from her fingertips. Lily startled and dropped her arms as Severus cried out in pain. A long scratch had appeared along the hand he had raised against her. She stared at the new wound, shocked. Surely she could not have caused the cut, could she?
He looked at her wildly. “What did you do to me, woman?” He hissed, clutching his bleeding hand.
“N-nothing,” she stammered, still flexing her fingers where the energy had been a minute before, “it must have happened before, perhaps when you carried the firewood.”
Severus stood still, breathing heavily. His eyes whipped wildly from Lily to Remus, to the back door, then back to Lily. After a moment of silence, he seemed to calm down. He spun on his heel and stormed to the kitchen.
“Come,” he barked over his shoulder, “help me bandage this hand.”
Lily’s hand curled into a fist behind her back. “I’m sorry, my lord,” she called after him, “you should ask Mary. I’m afraid I have no skills for healing.”
He strode out of the room without another word. Remus, who still stood next to the fireplace, leapt out of Severus’ warpath. He gaped at Lily.
“What did you just do?” he whispered. Lily unclenched her fist and rubbed her eyes.
“Nothing he didn’t deserve. But Remus,” she fixed him with an intense gaze, “you must never tell. Anyone. Please, Remus.”
Remus placed his hand over his heart. “You have my word, lady.”
She laughed weakly and lowered herself back into her seat next to the fire. “Call me Lily, please.”
He smiled slightly. “We’ll see about that.” Then he turned from the room and left her alone.
Lily sank further into the chair’s cushions. Her thoughts were still fixed on that man, James. She was sure she knew him, sure she had spoken to him before. His eyes were as familiar to her as if she had stared into them all her life.

16 Different Types Of Heels To Rock Any Look
A decidedly feminine footwear staple forever synonymous with high-style and glamour is women's heels. As such, the racks of a woman's closet can be packed with different types of heels. Surely, a high-heel woman is confident and savvy. Most definitely, she finds every aspect of her look down to her stilettos, mules, or sling backs' proper height. Similarly, when it comes to the most fitting heel silhouette for her ensemble rotation, she is a specialist, recognising full well that particular sets involve open-toe heels and platform heights, while others are better for a kitten heel, closed-toe pattern, or classic pump. There are several different types of heels for various kinds of occasions: high, mid, or low. The criteria for heels range from casual to dressy, sexy to chunky, strappy to fuss-free. Make sure not only that you always have the right type of heels to match your dress, but also to give you some much-needed confidence boost. The trick to nailing a chic overall look is finding the correct footwear.
Mid-height heels and comfort-first styles are both relevant types for lovers of heels. In a trendy block heel, supportive wedge, or multi-strap mule heel, much can be done. The pinnacle in glamour is for fanciful moments such as galas, weddings, dinner parties, and art shows, sky-high stilettos, an ankle-strap heel, or an elegant pair of platforms. The nonchalance of embellished low heels can be achingly chic with sophisticated attire for more demure sensibilities, particularly if stiletto shoes are not for you. If your lifestyle rarely calls for heels or you're of the type who wears no less than three inches a day, explore the sixteen different types of heels for women that every trendy woman needs in advance. Consider this your ultimate guide, from shoes for daily moments to styles designed for exquisite activities and lavish vacations. Here are 16 types of heels names:
1. Stilettos

13. Lace-up
Lace-up heels typically derive from two distinct points of inspiration: the traditional ballerina shoe or the Roman gladiator sandal. While the former has more of a sophisticated, feminine vibe, the latter reinforces powerful and sexy sound types of heels names.

Imiter: Myrtle uses her shadow to help her mimic other people’s voices.
Dark Dome: Myrtle creates a large black dome around her and her opponent. It’s one way, meaning that she can see the outside but no one can see the inside. It’s also soundproof.
Griffe: Myrtle creates dark claws to attack. The claws can range from six to forty inches (15- 100 cm).
Decke: Myrtle creates a blanket made of shade to cover or trap people.
Demone Ombra: Myrtle’s shadow, Nyx, expands into fifty feet to either absorb energy or cause heavy damage.
Skills: Myrtle was a very intelligent and skilled woman. She had great control of her awaken devil fruit powers and have expectational swordsmanship. She concealed a saber inside her parasol to hide it from enemies. She had an animated shadow that often assists her in her travels, caring for the grandchildren, and helps her with her treatment. She had mastered her Observant Haki, causing her to see miles away from where she’s standing.
Personality: Myrtle was described as “practically perfect in every way”. She was known as a motherly person due to her fairly stern but kind and nurturing personality. She loves her husband and their two children. She sees Langres as beautiful despite having albinism and becomes protective. She also loves her nephews and niece as if they were her own children. All of them saw her as a second mother. Myrtle got very protective when it comes to children, such as freeing them from slavery, taking them from abusive homes, and hostile environments. She often returned them back to their families or safe havens run by revolutionaries. She behaves like a mother figure to the younger revolutionaries. Though, there are times when her husband chooses to work overseeing their son’s accomplishments, memorable achievements, and even times when Langres were bullied because of his albinism.
About: Myrtle was the wife of Charlotte Mont D’or and the mother of Langres and Raclette.
She was born in the Alps to a middle-class family. When she was five years old, a Celestial Dragon named Cardoso Mateus was in the country. Myrtle was with her parents in their garden and her toy ball rolled off to the road, where Mateus happened to be on. Seeing this as an act of disrespect, the Celestial Dragon enslaved the young girls. Despite pleads from her parents, Mateus mocked them and leave the country with their daughter. Her parents died months later due to grief. During her time as a slave, Myrtle was regularly abused by the Cardoso family, given small amounts of food, and was forced to be a chimney sweep since she was small enough. She wasn’t wearing any sort of protective equipment, causing her to breathe in toxic dust. When she was eleven, she was force-fed with the Shade-Shade fruit for the Cardoso family’s sick enjoyment. It was at this time that she managed to escape from Mary Geoise. It remains unsure of how she escaped as her closest answer is that she “flew away”. The time between her escape and joining the Revoluntaries is very vague. She described it as “so long yet felt so short”. At twelve years old, Myrtle joined the Revoluntaries. She fought alongside her comrades and friends for years. Her missions included espionage and “search and rescue”, sling with resuing children. Because of her past of being a chimney sweep, she developed lung cancer and leukemia. She discovered this when she was twenty-five years old yet continues to do her revolutionary missions and taking care of children. When she was thirty-four years old, she answered an ad from Big Mom after the grandchildren scared off their nanny and blew away her competition. Since then, they all become attached to her quickly, mostly for her motherly personality. Mont-D’or fell in love with her and had a secret relationship. After negotiating with Big Mom, Myrtle was able to marry Mont-D’or and have Langres soon after.  It’s when she was forty-two the sickness starts to affect her, causing her to get treatment. She died when Langres was eight and Raclette was four months old. She has never told the Charlotte family about her past and vast knowledge of various subjects. It should be worth noting that Cardoso Mateus has been dead for about one hundred years and Myrtle’s description of the Alps is similar to its early Industrial Era.
Wanted Poster: Myrtle is seen smiling with her parasol covering the upper half of her face.
Here was the list of requirements that the Charlotte Grandchildren had put up for a new nanny:
“Wanted: A nanny for thirty adorable children
If you want this choice position
Have a cheery disposition
Rosy cheeks, no warts!
Play games, all sort
You must be kind, you must be witty
Very sweet and fairly pretty
Take us on outings, give us treats
Sing songs, bring sweets
Never be cross or cruel
Never give us castor oil or gruel
Love us as sons and daughters
And never smell of barley water
If you won’t scold and dominate us
We will never give you cause to hate us
We won’t hide your spectacles
So you can’t see
Put toads in your bed
Or pepper in your tea”

The next day I saw the mark fully. It wasn’t as big as I thought and easily covered by some concealer he had for apparently the same reason. We spent it mostly in our room. I was too sore to go out walking and wanted to finish the scrapbooks. He had paperwork to do and wanted to do it with me close. I didn’t mind. It was a rainy day here anyway so being outside wouldn’t have been much fun. The next day was the one I had been waiting for. That night was the party. I was really nervous honestly. I had no idea how to act at things like this. I didn’t really get a lot of time to worry about that though. Around noon, Ardyn got a call. We were in the middle of talking about who all was going to be there over lunch when his phone went insane. He glance at it and quickly answered.
“Chancellor….. Yes.” He beamed then.
“Perfect!!! And everything…? Yes we have shoes…. Perfect! Oh I do owe you my dear.” He chuckled then.
“I’ve got a fitting at three. The party starts at five. I’d like to pick her up here at the hotel if that is… oh good. Yes I will make sure of it. Thank you.” He hung up then and I gave him an odd look. He smiled then.
“I know you were worried about tonight… So I made arrangements. Thanks to my habit of buying suits, I’ve made friends with some of the dress shops here. One has a full salon and such with it. I’ve made arrangements for them to help you find a dress from any of the shops in a color to match mine… and for them to help you with hair and such.” I almost choked then and he froze. I got the bite down then and looked at him.
“Ardyn… how…. ? Oh my gods…. “ He smiled then.
“Skylar… You’re my lover… I want you to look like a princess tonight. If this is the only dance you come to in your life…. I want to make sure it’s the best one.” I sighed then letting my shoulders drop then.
“You’re insane…. But I’m grateful… Thank you Ardyn….” He smiled then and gently kissed my hand.
“Anything for my princess.” I felt myself blush then and we finished lunch. He had me grab my new silver heels then and we took off. He had a suit fitting to get to and I was going to get pampered like a princess.
“Guys…. I’m not sure….”
“Oh shush! Come on!” I sighed then and slowly stepped out from the bathroom. This was the last dress they had for me to try on. I had only been here for about thirty minutes and I had already tired on over ten dresses. Going off their faces on this one though, I think we were done with dresses.
“Oh my….”
“Honey… Yes.” I laughed a bit then looking down. Slightly puffy with a slit on the left side where you could see the silver heels underneath and my freshly shaven legs. It was held up by one strap on my right side with the clasp hidden underneath a fabric rose. It was glitter and silks and a dress fit for a princess with deep reds and blacks. One of the fitters came up and finished zipping it up on me. It was honestly still loose.
“And the perfect size… No Alterations needed….” I nodded and looked in the mirrors at the end. I couldn’t believe it. This was really me in this dress and we hadn’t even done my hair or makeup yet. I saw him peek around me and he was smiling.
“You’re going to wow them….”
“Hell she’s going to wow anyone who sees her….” I laughed then and the other came up.
“I’m thinking…. Lace gloves up to your elbows… A silver Bracelet with matching Ruby earrings….” I nodded then and smiled.
“Check my bag… A friend gave me some.”
“Oh?” She rushed over and soon laughed.
“Dino!” I turned then.
“You know him?”
“Of course! I’m one of his buyers for the jewelry.” I laughed then and soon I got to sit down while they helped with the rest. We were in my hotel room now. We had only gone to the store long enough to pick up all the dresses once ardyn confirmed the color with them. I could feel them playing with my hair while we talked about everything going on. They had worked with vivian when she was making Luna’s dress. They were worried about her like everyone but they trusted in the oracle. It was amazing to hear honestly. Finally though They told me to open my eyes and stand up. I stood up  and let them lead me to the mirror.
“Honey…. You’re going to kill him.”
“I can only hope so.” I muttered before I opened my eyes.
It was twenty minutes till five. Ravus had come back to the hotel with me to escort Skylar. He was worried about us being attacked on the way to the party it seemed. I saw the stylish coming down as we walked in and he smiled.
“She’s coming. Just having to calm her down. She’s nervous.”
“I can understand… Thank you again for this.”
“Oh hon, once you told me… I couldn’t say no.” He beamed then like a child receiving a gift..
“She was well worth it. Oh and she can keep the dress…. I don’t think anyone else can wear it like her after this.” I stopped then but he took off. His partner was next and just waved smiling. I was completely confused until I heard someone on the steps. I looked up and instantly froze. Dark red gown moved with her perfectly, black lace gloves covering those perfect hands, nails a deep red to match the dress and my own color. Those gorgeous brown eyes brought out by expert makeup. Her silky hair done in a loose braided crown leading to a curled tail on one side being held by a ruby butterfly clip. I could barely breathe. I knew those lips though and those eyes. She looked up once she hit the bottom step and I couldn’t help but smile as the blush hit me.
“Skylar…”
“Ardyn… Um….” she walked forward and you could just barely see her heels under the dress.
“I hope it’s the right color….” I nodded then and gently reached out to touch her. She let me and I could feel us shaking.
“You look divine…. Fire made flesh….” She blushed then.
“Like you don’t….” I smiled then. A black suit with embroidered roses at the end of the jacket and vest. Done in a deep red color to match her. Crisp dress pants with shined black boots underneath. We were truly a match. Ravus was even star struck and gently walked forward. She saw him and I saw a bit of surprise in those loving eyes.
“Commander… I wasn’t aware you were going to be here.” skylar smiled then and bowed to him gently.
“It’s good to see you.”
“The same to you, My lady.” He stole her hand then and kissed it gently.
“I almost could not believe it was you descending those stairs…. This is a far jump from the huntress ready to threaten him.” We laughed then and she smiled.
“It’s me… I can threaten him if you wish though.” Ravus chuckled then and shook his head.
“No… this is your night, My lady.” I nodded then and offered her my arm. She took it gently and we left the hotel.
I wasn’t prepared. That starstruck look on his face… I can never forget it. Then we left the Hotel and everyone we passed stared at the three of us. I stuck close to ardyn, trying not to focus on the lingering eyes. I wasn’t used to such attention and he knew it. Ravus being on my other side was helping. I could trick myself into thinking they were looking at him. It wasn’t a hard one. He did look absolutely sinful in a white suit with dark purple accents to blend in his arm. Gods help me when it comes to ardyn. Hair had been trimmed and pulled back into a small tail. He looked absolutely regal and here I was on his arm. I had to remind myself to keep breathing as we walked to the first secretary's house. It was all lit up and I could see many dancing figures inside. The guards let us pass with no questions and Ravus went ahead. Ardyn spoke then.
“He doesn’t have a date…. But everyone is used to that….” I nodded then.
“I’m kind of shocked… He is rather good looking… Must be the attitude.”
“I think so as well.” I laughed then and he looked over.
“Are you ok?”
“I’m scared…. But yes.” He smiled then and I felt him get my hand tightly then.
“Skylar…. You look amazing…. If people are staring it is because they are envious…. They wish they could look as good as you and be as lucky as you and I….” I nodded then looking forward.
“Promise to catch me…?”
“Always…. Just follow my lead… I’m here for you.” We walked forward then into the doors of the party.
As we entered, young Men and women were waiting to greet and take bags and coats. Ardyn gave his coat to a young man waiting and another came forward with a smile. They were all wearing black and white suits with a sylleblossom pinned to the front.
“Would you like to be announced, Sir?”
“Yes please.”
“Names?”
“Lady Skylar Annaliese and Chancellor Izunia. In that order please.” The young man nodded and Ardyn got my hand again gently. I shifted closer then trying to smile and not show how nervous I was.
“Really?”
“I’m a familiar Face… I want to let them see you.. But I’ll be damned if they’re going to touch.” I laughed then as we walked forward. The main door opened and those not dancing looked up.
“Lady Skylar Annalise and her Escort, Chancellor Izunia!” He led me down then and I saw people whispering to each other. I was so close to panicking. We reached the bottom and an older woman came forward giving him a small smile. Ardyn turned on the charm then.
“Secretary Claustra! A pleasure to see you, My lady.”
“Chancellor. A pleasure as always sir… Might I ask who you’re escorting here tonight?” I smiled then and bowed.
“Skylar Annaliese Ma’am.” She seemed shocked then.
“You’re…”
“A huntress from Lucis…. I was lucky enough to fall for this man at my side back home… he asked me to accompany him this evening.” She nodded slightly then.
“Interesting…. You do look the part well my dear… I hope your stay here in our city is comfortable… Maybe you could help with our demon issues.” I smiled then.
“Ma’am I already have.” She stopped then.
“No… You’re…? One night?” I nodded then.
“I’m efficient when I wish to be.” She was impressed. Ardyn smiled then.
“You see now why I fell for this rose…”
“Indeed… you’re a lucky Man Chancellor. Please… Enjoy the party.” I nodded and she walked on. I breathed then and he smiled.
“You’re a natural…”
“I just copied you.” He laughed then and I let him lead me around and tell me names of certain people. I tired to keep up but it was rather hard. I stole a drink on the way and was sipping on it when the next dance came up. He smiled then and soon got in front of me and stole my glass. I knew then and soon he bowed to me offering me a hand.
“Care to join me for a dance my dear?” I took his hand then.
“I would be delighted to.” He led me forward then and I saw everyone clear a space in the middle. I could feel my heart pounding as we stopped.
“Skylar…”
“Yes?”
“Just watch me…. Ok?” I nodded then as I took his hand. As his arm slipped around me, It felt like we were the only ones out of the floor. I let him lead on instinct following his moves with my own. I trusted him. I trusted he wouldn’t let me fall or hurt him or me. I couldn’t look away from those gorgeous eyes either. The suit only brought them out more to me. It came to the spin and I did it perfectly. I could see it in those eyes of him. He was beaming through them. I smiled back at him and slowly we fell back into our natural stance and he kept us dancing around the room. At one point he even lifted me with one arm around me and I couldn’t help but laugh gently. We hadn’t practiced this. I came back down and our lips just barely met before we went back to normal and kept going around. I was so dizzy but it wasn’t from the dancing. I was so in love with this man it was insane. I knew so much about him now. His fears and weaknesses, his troubled past and his nightmares for the future. All these people in this room though… All they saw was the chancellor, a self absorbed egotistical man ruling the empire under the emperor. He was the enemy… but not to me. I saw someone I’m pretty sure even ardyn forgot existed inside… I saw the healer in those eyes. I saw the true Ardyn…. And I loved him.
I hardly realized I was about to cry until he reached up.
“Skylar…?” I smiled then.
“I love you…” He smiled then and I felt him wipe a tear away.
“I love you too…. So damn much skylar…” I laughed a bit as I came back to reality. The song was over. He smiled then and slowly walked with me out of there. We went down the hall to a balcony and I heard him close the door. I just tired to breathe and not let any tears fall. I didn’t want to mess up the makeup.
“It’s waterproof you know.” I laughed then and looked back. He was smiling. He walked forward then and I went right into his arms. I couldn’t help it. He hugged me tightly then.
“Skylar… What’s wrong…?”
“Nothing… I’m just…..” I choked then and He sank down with me onto a bench. I couldn’t do it. This was too much at once and I was scared to follow where this would lead me.
“I’m just a hunter…. And now…. I look like a freaking queen! And I love you so damn much but…. I’m terrified….! I want this….. But….”
“You’re scared…. You're scared of heartbreak… of losing everything.” I nodded then and he hugged me tighter.
“I promised you…. I would never let that happen to you. I will always protect my queen…. Now and forever….. After everything you’ve done for me thus far….” he made me look up then and I saw.
“You’ve made me more human than I’ve felt in years skylar….. My past is slowly slipping behind me when you’re around…. I don’t want all these titles or the job… I just want you! The empire can fall like the one before it and I wouldn’t care…  so long as you stood by my side safe and sound.” I gazed at him then as the tears fell.
“Ardyn…. You’re such a fool….. Falling for someone like me….” He chuckled then.
“I’ve been told that before…. A long time ago by a woman…. And yet I did not ever stop loving her… Even when she turned her back on me… My last words were ones of love…. So what in Ifrit’s name makes you think I will do anything less for you?” I shrugged then and he smiled.
“You’re the only woman I have ever loved since my downfall…. And you will be the only one I want to share the future with, whatever it may be…. So if there is anything I can do… to help you realize that it’s ok…. That you can be with me… to come home with me….” I looked up then and he smiled.
“I’ve got a wing in the palace…. It’s lonely…. And needs your touch…. You can even still hunt… I had it all worked out…” I smiled then and gently touched his face.
“You truly love me don’t you….? All of me….? Even the messed up parts? The depressed terrified parts?”
“Especially those… Because that is the real you…. This is Lady skylar…. But she is not the one I met in lucis…. I met that smiling kind Cafe girl that really knows how to brew a shot of espresso.” I laughed then as he made a face.
“I was flying off that for well over twelve hours…. Damn.” I couldn’t help it. I laughed as the tears fell into my lap. He smiled then.
“So no matter what version of you there is… I will love it… Because I know the real one… and by the gods I am blessed to.” I looked up then and smiled.
“I want to say goodbye to Noctis and them….” He nodded then.
“Seeking the king’s blessing…?”
“Sort of…. More like a family blessing… They’re my brothers…” he smiled then.
“Hopefully yours will take it better than mine.” I gasped then and he smiled.
“Mess up once and whoops. There went my life.”
“Ardyn!”
“What?” He smirked then.
“Got you to stop crying.” I sighed then and he smiled.
“Go on…. I will await out front for you.” I nodded then and hugged him tightly.
“I love you…. I’ll be back.” He nodded then and I soon left. I ran down the halls bypassing the ballroom and soon I got outside and out into the streets. I had a secret in this dress as well. On my right side there was a pocket. I got into it and pulled out my phone and quickly called Noctis. He answered on the second ring.
“Skylar?”
“Noct…” I was looking around trying to think. Finally I saw and smiled a bit.
“Do you know the cafe near Weskham’s?”
“Yeah. We’re close by. Why?”
“I need all of you to meet me there… Something’s happened.”
“Ok. do you want to stay on the phone with me?”
“Can’t. I’m running in heels.” I hung up then and took off holding my dress up off the cobbled street. I got down the stairs and past the way to the haunted painting and soon took another flight down. They were right in front of me.
“Noctis!” He turned then and I saw the shock. I didn’t give him time to register at all before I hugged him tightly.
“S-Skylar!?” I nodded then trying to hold the tears back.
“You… wow. I know who they were talking about now. We heard about a fire lady with some imperials…. It was you?”
“Yes…” I mumbled. He hugged me back then.
“What’s wrong…?”
“I’m scared…. I don’t know what to do….” I couldn’t stop them then. I heard prompto gasp then and soon Noctis made me let go. I tried to hide them but it was hard.
“Ok… We need to sit… Come on… don’t mess up that makeup hon… you look too good for that.”
“It’s waterproof…” They nodded and soon I sat with them at a table. Gladio was next to me and gently hugged me.
“What’s going you so scared hon?”
“Did Ardyn hurt you?” Prompto asked and I looked up.
“No! Gods No….. He….. He can’t…..” I looked back down then. I had been too quick to defend him.
“..... He’s not a bad man…. There’s someone in there that I get to see and I love him…. I know a lot about him…. He’s damaged…. He’s scarred and Damaged and careful… but I got past those walls and he got past mine…. Now we’re at the last one and…. I want to let him in. He asked me to go to Niflheim with him… to live with him…. Possibly even marry him….!” I choked then crumpling in half as I sobbed. I could see it now. We would say I do and things wouldn’t change…. It would still be like it is now and I’d see that smile every morning when I woke up without fearing he’ll leave me. He’d be mine.
I couldn’t take that. I couldn’t take how scared I was of happiness that I was ready to run again. That was until I felt a hand on my shoulder. I looked and Noctis was there next to me in an extra chair.. He was gently smiling and soon hugged me tightly.
“Skylar…. I’m risking everything for what you’ve got… so if one of us can have it… It’ll make all of this worth it.” I gasped then and he made me look him in the eyes.
“I’m not ever going to get to marry luna… let alone see her again…. But you’ve got love right here staring you in the face and I’ll be damned if I’m going to let you run from it again.” He pulled me up then and the other nodded. Ignis came up then and smiled.
“I know at some point I thought I could be the one you’d be saying yes to…. But fate is odd. So keep our numbers…. Stay in contact if you can… If you ever come home… Find us.” I nodded then and prompto smiled.
“He better have gotten a photo before you started crying.” I shook my head then and he shrugged before getting one.
“This works too…. Don’t forget us sis ok? I’ll have lots of photos for you to see next time.”
“Promise?” He nodded then and hugged me tightly.
“I’ll send you this one tonight…. Ok?” I nodded then before gladio came up. He hugged me tightly and soon made me look at him.
“You keep training. Never stop… He tries to hurt you… Use it. Stay safe skylar…. I’m not going to be there to pull you out from under dead monsters….” I nodded and it reminded me.
“Prom!” he looked up and I smiled.
“Take care of damien for me ok…?” He beamed then.
“No problem!!!” I smiled then.
“You guys are the best friends I could have ever been stranded with….” They laughed then and Noctis got my shoulder.
“Come on Fire queen…. We’ll walk you back.” I nodded then and gently got his hand.
“I won’t forget you boys….”
“Don’t…. And this isn’t goodbye… you’ll see us again.” I nodded then and slowly we headed back.
As Promised, Ardyn was waiting outside. He stopped when he saw all of us and I knew he was worried. Noctis walked forward with Gladio at his side and my hand in his. Slowly though I let him go and got Ardyn’s. Noctis nodded and looked at him.
“Hurt her and you better pray we don’t find out…. She’s someone special to us all…. So treat her right Ardyn….” Gladio nodded then.
“Makes the smackdown we gave titan seem like child’s play for sure.” Ardyn smiled then and nodded.
“Understood, your majesty…. I will treat her with all the respect a queen deserves…. Thank you.” The boys nodded then and I smiled.
“See you…”
“See you Skylar. And don’t worry about home. We’ve got it. You take care of you.” I nodded then and smiled.
“I trust you idiots… now you better go! Ravus is here!”
“Whoa what!?” They seemed a bit panicked and quickly ran. Ardyn laughed then and soon got both of my hands.
“So I take it….”
“I’m coming home with you…. I’m still scared to leave home behind but…. I’ve got you… and home is where your heart is…. So I guess I’m not really leaving it… Maybe I just found a new… more permanent home.” He smiled then and nodded.
“I promise…. I will be by your side Forevermore skylar.” I smiled back then and gripped his hands tightly.
“I like the sound of that Ardyn…” He gave me such a gentle look then as he got into his pocket.
“Then let’s make it official…. I was going to ask you later tonight but… Now seems like the right time.” He pulled out a box then and I felt my heart do a flip. He opened it carefully and pulled out a silver chain. In the middle was a ring. Silver with a black opal in the center surrounded by small diamonds. I gently examined it as he got a wistful smile.
“I’ve had this ring for a long time… it was to be given to my original queen…. But she wasn't the one it was truly meant for.” He opened the chain then and I felt him slide it around my neck.
“As you wear this, remember this promise. I will be there for you always… you are the one I love and I will never leave you….” I felt him lock it on me and I gently kissed him.
“I trust you…. I love you too ardyn…. More than you will ever know.” He looked into my eyes then and it was all there. He didn’t have to say a word more. He kissed me back and I felt everything fall into place at last. We had a lot of road bumps ahead for sure but I knew we could deal with them together. After all… isn't that what a king and queen did?
