LEMONS! 
I don’t understand people who buy ONE lemon—what’s that supposed to do? I put lemon in everything, not just salad dressings—I drink it in my seltzer, squeeze it over half an avocado as a snack with flaky salt, use it to balance and/or brighten soups and a million other dishes. I even squeeze it over scrambled eggs. I find lemons in my car and in my purse. My cousin Toni jokes that wherever I go, I leave a bag of lemons. So, my answer is obviously lemons.

Emma Margaret Marie Tachard-Mackey was born on 4 January 1996 Le Mans, France. Her mother is British and her father is French. Her father is headmaster of the school. She grew up in Sablé-sur-Sarthe (commonly referred to as Sablé) at western region of France. She received herbaccalauréatDegree(French national academic qualification that students can obtain at the completion of their secondary education) in 2013. She moved to the UK when she was 17 to attend Leeds University to study English language and literature. She started her playing career in theater following her graduation in 2016.
According to ELLE Australia, She is dating aspiring actor Dan Whitlam. The two started seeing each other in 2018.
Early career
At the college, she made her theatrical debut. She made an appearance in The Workshop Theater shows. She participated in the play Table in 2014 along with ten other classmates.
After completing her theatre studies in Leeds, Emma Mackey temporarily worked as a model. Before pursuing acting, she worked as a model for a renowned English clothing line AIDA Shoreditch.
In 2016, Mackey had an appearance in “Badger Lane,” a horror movie, which was directed by Shay Nicole Collins. At the National Student Television Association Awards in 2016, movie earned the Best Film Drama award. Critics gave it very favorable reviews and appreciated its creative directing.
Her next role was in the 2018 drama movie “Summit Fever,” which is about two mountain climbers who attempt to conquer the Matterhorn, Eiger, and Mont Blanc in the Alps.
Landing the Breakthrough Role
As part of the Netflix original series “Sex Education“, Mackey was cast as one of the principal characters in 2018. In Laurie Nunn’s web television comedy drama series set in the UK, she plays the part of “Maeve Wiley.” On the video streaming service Netflix, the show debuted on January 11, 2019 and has since enjoyed a moderate amount of success. The focus of the plot is the three core characters, played by Asa Butterfield, Gillian Anderson and Emma Mackey. Mackey plays the part of a “bad girl,” a social outcast, in the television series.
She was nominated for a British Academy Television Award in 2021 and won a National Comedy Award in 2022 for the role.
In 2021, Mackey starred in the independent romantic drama movie Eiffel, which earned over $13 million globally and had its world premiere at the Alliance Française French Film Festival.
The following same year, she starred in the mystery thriller film “Death on the Nile“, a sequel to 2017’s Murder on the Orient Express.
In 2022, Mackey had her first lead film role as the novelist Emily Brontë in the partly fictional film Emily. She made an appearance in the fantasy comedy Barbie.

“Everybody” Potato Leek Soup | Emily Nunn
Ingredients
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 tablespoon olive oil
4 large leeks, white and light green parts only, halved lengthwise, halves cut into 1/2-inch-thick half-moons (about 8 cups)
4 large celery stalks, chopped (about 2 cups), plus small, tender leaves for garnish
6 large Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled, quartered lengthwise, and cut into 1/2-inch pieces (about 9 cups)
7 cups water
2 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon jarred chicken stock base (such as Better Than Bouillon)
1 cup whole milk
1/4 cup heavy cream
1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Dash of freshly grated nutmeg
Finely chopped fresh chives and crushed potato chips, for garnish
Preparation
Melt butter with olive oil in a large, heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium. Add leeks; cook, stirring often, until softened, 5 to 8 minutes. Add celery; cook, stirring often, until tender and deeply saturated in color, about 8 minutes. Add potatoes; stir to coat potatoes in butter and oil. Reduce heat to low, and cook, stirring often, until potatoes are coated in a shiny, milky starch, about 5 minutes. Stir in 7 cups water and chicken stock base; bring to a boil over high. Reduce heat to medium, and simmer, stirring occasionally, until potatoes are just tender and vegetables are softened, about 15 minutes. Remove from heat. Using a ladle, remove 2 cups of cooking stock (liquid only), and reserve in a small bowl. Let remaining soup stand at room temperature 30 minutes.
Stir milk, cream, salt, pepper, and nutmeg into soup. Stir in reserved stock, a little at a time, to reach desired consistency. (If desired, use a potato masher to mash some of the soup. To serve pureed, pour soup and reserved 2 cups stock, in 2 batches, into a blender. Process until smooth, about 20 seconds per batch.) Divide soup evenly among 8 bowls, and garnish with celery leaves, chives, and crushed potato chips.
Make Ahead
Let soup cool completely, and store in an airtight container in refrigerator up to 3 days.

In honor of Dickinson bittersweetly coming to an end today, I thought I’d put together a collection of my favorite Emily Dickinson/Maeve Wiley parallels because Maeve is our modern Emily, without question (Did you catch that S3 Maeve was even studying/reading Emily’s poetry?!) - For those of you that don’t know, Dickinson is a show on AppleTV+ that gives a glimpse (through a bit of a creative, modern lens) on what American poet, Emily Dickinson’s life was like while writing some of the most prolific poems in history and like Sex Education the show is made by a cavalcade of brilliant women, including creator Alena Smith and actress/Executive Producer Hailee Steinfeld. It’s a show about hope, strength, family and feminism and it is one I highly recommend if you haven’t yet indulged! 🌻

Mina Stone’s Chickpeas
Ingredients
1 lb. dried chickpeas, soaked overnight, drained
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
6 garlic cloves, crushed
2 3x1" strips lemon zest
¼ cup extra-virgin olive oilKosher salt, freshly ground pepper
Preparation
Step 1
Combine chickpeas, onion, garlic, lemon zest, oil, and a couple big pinches of salt in a large pot. Add 2 quarts water and stir to combine. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium-low and simmer, stirring occasionally and replacing any water that evaporates, until chickpeas are tender, about 2 hours. Taste and season generously with salt and pepper. Let cool.
Step 2
Do Ahead: Chickpeas can be made 6 days ahead. Transfer to an airtight container and chill.
When I cooked my dried chickpeas for recipes (they’re so much better than canned; revelatory) I used the “Method for Stovetop, Uncovered” here, and dropped half an onion and a few cloves of peeled and smashed garlic into the pot when it was time to cook them. - Emily Nunn

Method For Stovetop, Covered
Soak 1/2 cup of dried chickpeas for 12 hours.
Drain, rinse, and add to a pot. Cover by a few inches with water, and add 1/2 teaspoon salt.
Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover, and cook at a simmer until tender, about 90 minutes to 2 hours.
Method For Stovetop, Uncovered
Soak 1/2 cup dried chickpeas for 12 hours.

Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and cook at a simmer until tender, about 90 minutes to 2 hours.
Results
I conducted both the stovetop, covered and stovetop, uncovered trials simultaneously, and was flummoxed by the subtle differences in the final products, insofar as one can be flummoxed hours into a chickpea cooking marathon. The covered batch somehow ended up less salty than the uncovered batch, but with skins that were much easier to remove. Texturally, the covered chickpeas were a hair silkier, whereas the uncovered ones were starchier, like tiny mashed potatoes.
Recipe: Chickpea Salad with Onions and Paprika (slada hummas)
Serves 4
This delicious and easy salad is from the 2008 book Flavors of Morocco, by Ghillie Basan, who points out that chickpeas, beans, and lentils are eaten daily in rural Morocco. This dish can be served at room temperature or warm. I took the liberty of quickly frying/frizzling half the onions, to create contrasting flavors and textures. If I were making this for a dinner party or lunch, I’d have all the ingredients prepped, then bring out the chickpeas to warm them before assembling the salad. You can eat it at room temperature, but the way the heated chickpeas wilt the herbs and melt the cheese a bit is really nice.
4 cups cooked chickpeas (just cooked or re-warmed)
1 medium-small red onion, cut in half lengthwise then in half crosswise and sliced with the grain, divided (you’re going to leave half of them raw and fry the other half)
2 large cloves garlic, grated (you may use up to 4)
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 to 2 teaspoons paprika (I used two; it seems like a lot, but it’s not, especially when the cheese goes in and mingles with it all
3 tablespoons olive oil, divided
Juice of one lemon
Small bunch of flat-leaf parsley, coarsely chopped
Small bunch of cilantro, coarsely chopped
4 oz goat cheese or feta, crumbled (I used goat, and it was absolutely dreamy; you may leave out the cheese, but I don’t recommend it)
Flakey sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
Bread, to serve (I had whole wheat pita)
In a frying pan, heat 1 tablespoon of the olive over medium-high heat. Add half the sliced onions and fry, stirring occasionally, until beginning to blacken in places. Stir in a pinch of the paprika, remove from heat, and set aside.
To a large bowl containing your just cooked (or re-warmed) chickpeas, add the raw and cooked onions, garlic, cumin, and paprika and stir to combine. Add the olive oil and lemon juice and toss gently to coat. Season with salt and pepper to taste and add most of the herbs. If using cheese, sprinkle it over the salad now along with the remaining herbs. Toss a bit, to allow the cheese and herbs to mingle with the chickpeas, and serve immediately, with bread.

Last Movie: I am way more a TV person than a movie person. Does a comedy standup count as a movie? No? Too bad. :) B and I watched Douglas by Hannah Gadsby, who was previously unknown to me, and it was SO, SO FUNNY. Highly recommend!
Currently Reading: I haven't actually started it yet, but I picked up The Comfort Food Diaries by Emily Nunn from the library the other day.
Oh! Real quick, funny library story. I had picked up two library books last month and kept them tucked under my sofa end table in the living room. I spend most of my downtime on that end of the couch, and it's easy to just grab a book and read a few pages when I get a minute. I was trying to quickly scarf down a big ol' plate of pasta and meatballs one night so I could help with the baby, and balanced the food on the arm of the sofa, like I've done a million times before. Except this time, I stabbed a meatball and the ENTIRE PLATE went bottom up... all over the library books. I was MORTIFIED. I cleaned them up as best I could (LOL, because marinara ain't coming out of those pages) and sadly brought them back to the library. Rather than shamefully leave them in the book drop and drive away, I walked them in and told them my son had spilled food on them, apologized, and wanted to make it right. (Ha, the perks of having a kiddo?) The woman helping me was so kind and gracious and told me the charge for these two books would typically be $50, but she so appreciated me coming in and letting them know because that hardly ever happens, so she asked if it would be okay if she charged me $20 instead? YES. What a nice moment that ended up being.
Okay, back to it.
Currently Watching: The 4400. Just finished season 3 of Virgin River. Also just watched Crazy, Not Insane on Hulu, which was a really interesting spin from a psychiatrist who has studied childhood trauma/brain injury as it relates to the violent acts committed by serial killers.
Currently Craving: A good night sleep, which has been rare this week!
Coffee or Tea: Lately it's coffee, but a hot cup of tea is so comforting.

In other news, my babe is somehow 6 months old already. How did this happen?! We took some cutesie 6 month photos and in one, me and pep are making literally the SAME face. It cracks me up every time. B created a version of said photo which includes a quokka in the corner, because apparently we look like a family of quokkas.
I've been losing some sleep these past few days mostly due to my impending return to work on Wednesday. When I left in January, everything was a hot mess, and the culture of the team in general has been tanking for the last year. They're restructuring a lot of teams, demoting or otherwise moving long-time members to other roles, and bringing in new outside hires for management of the teams. Who knows what I'll be returning to, but I don't think I'm long for this company. We shall see.
I now need to go catch up on all of your lives and blogs to see what I've been missing!
