For the people who aren’t on Twitter it’s been recently brought to light that a very influential paleoartist is a massive white supremacist whose professional career involves studying supposed links between genetics and proficiency at IQ tests. Haven’t seen much about it on here so I thought I’d post this

The assertions have been made recently that Paleo artist and geneticist Emily Willoughby is a white supremacist…
This is something I only recently found out. I decided to dig around for myself, and have been unable to find any claims or statements by Willoughby that would lead me to believe that she actually is.
From a first glance it appears that because she works in a field of genetics concerning intelligence, that people have made incorrect inferences between her work and eugenics, which is a subject she has not published anything about.
If I am incorrect about this, please disabuse me of this idea
Has anyone seen any actual evidence that Emily Willoughby is a white supremacist or directly interested in eugenics?

I don't know why or how come people still need it spelled out for them, but if something contains racist/sexist/etc-ist elements, it is racist/sexist/etc-ist.
In other words if your favourite paleo artist is claiming "IQ" is linked to race, they're racists, they're into eugenics.
If that book you're reading makes fun of disabled people for issues created by a system that runs against them, that is ableism.
If the game you play has racist tropes, that is racism.
If your s/o says they're "pro-life", they're anti-women.
The damn list goes on. Supporting those people or their content has you be an accomplice to it via your silence. Silence never ever helped the attacked group.

There’s this Canadian marine geophysicist and artist, Ele Willoughby (who doesn’t have a Tumblr for me to mention, so I’ve linked her Etsy), who makes some of my favorite prints ever. A few years back, my father got me her Marie Tharp print as a birthday present; this year, he gifted me her Emilie du Châtelet print.
Tumblr media
I am over the moon.
Emilie du Châtelet is one of my favorite historical figures because of how her work shaped Newtonian physics. She not just translated, but tested, Newton’s work at a time when Newtonian physics was considered somewhat controversial in Europe.
Ele Willoughby’s work combining the artistic with the scientific and mathematical is beautiful and gorgeous and showcases the beauty in science. She also attaches a biography of the scientist as part of her artist’s note for each of these portrait prints. Her work is so beautiful. I love it.
Now I’ve just got to get this framed and find somewhere to hang it.

People are really starting to forget that Emily Willoughby is a Nazi. Her artistic talent is irrelevant to the fact that she's a eugenicist piece of shit. For reference, her PhD was just "white people are genetically predisposed to having a higher intelligence than people of color". She has never taken accountability and has continued to double down with the classic "sorry but that's just the truth". There are professional paleontologists on Facebook praising her. Why is she still allowed in these circles or anywhere in science? Why are her opinions still valued?
Her continued presence in these spaces puts people's complacency on full display. She throws people of color and Jews under the bus and the fact that she hasn't been fully shut out tells me a lot about our field.

Happy Fossil Friday!
Who: Yi qi
name meaning: "Wing" "Strange" = "Strange wing"
pronunciation: Yee chee
What: a scansoriopterygid (climbing/gliding maniraptoran dinosaurs) theropod
When: Middle-Upper Jurassic
Where: Tiaojishan Formation in the Hebei Province in China
Fun fact!: Yi qi is the shortest binomial of any extinct animal discovered so far, sharing this status (ironically) with the extant Ia io, the great evening bat.
P.F. (personal flex) Fun fact!: One of the authors on the original paper describing the discovery of Yi qi was my undergraduate thesis supervisor.
Why are they cool?: When you think of birds you think feathers and Yi qi certain had those, but what sets this funky little lad apart from other maniraptorians of this time were the long rods of bone protruding from its wrists that supported membranous tissue not unlike the wings of a bat.
Here is a link to the original paper describing Yi qi if anyone is interested in learning more!
And just for fun cause she's super cool, here is a link to another of the paper's famous authers, Jingmai O'Connor's website, the punk rock palaeontologist!

Do you think Adrien isn't abused by his father?
? No, I don't think that. It's pretty obvious in the show that he is, he is being neglected, which is a form of abuse. I would also argue that he is being emotionally abused as well in the sense that Gabriel's love for Adrien is anything but unconditional.
The picture the show paints isn't flattering. Gabriel is consistently shown having more love for his wife than his son. It's like Adrien was only a byproduct of their love, and that's why Gabriel gives him affection here and there, but ultimately, he only loves his wife. I don't know if that makes sense or if I'm describing it weird, but an example can be Jack and Maddie Fenton from Danny Phantom. They love each other and their work more than their children, in my opinion.
An extreme comparison would be that Gabriel is very much like Father from The Willoughbys, except he does hold some love for Adrien. It's just small compared to his love for Emilie. He does provide for Adrien, buys him things he thinks he wants or needs, so he won't ask for anything Gabriel isn't willing to give. He feeds him, but only what he believes Adrien needs, i.e strict diet. He gives him activities to do but they are only what Gabriel approved of, nothing more, nothing less.
Gabriel just likes being in control, but it's too a very unhealthy amount.
To me, he only loves Adrien because he is Emilie's and his son. Maybe that sounds normal, but I mean it in the sense he only loves him because he's a part of Emilie and looks like her. But since he's not her, he only loves Adrien a fraction of normal love.
I mean, for God's sake, he put his own son in danger just to try and confirm if he was Chat Noir or not. He did show some worry, but like....in the end, all he cared about was being defeated by Ladybug and Chat.
I really hate Gabriel if that's not clear. I know he's portrayed to love Adrien and is doing everything for him and his mother, but like Gabriel is doing below the bare minimum for his son. If he loved him as much as normal parents do, he would show it. Plain and simple.
But no. He's neglectful and manipulative. Guilt tripping his own son is probably a hobby.

Hey! I just found your page, and I love your headcannons, and Might be applying some to my own ocs! One question I do have though, is do we know any evolutionary/science things on the dragons? Like, do you think they had their own 'dinosaur' predecessors? I have my own theories, but I like to brainstorm with others!
Gonna be fully real with you... if dragons came from anywhere, it was probably magical in nature. It doesn't make a ton of sense for such big apex predators to evolve when humans are already there. It's just not how evolution works.
HOWEVER, for my own, non-wof dragons, I do give them a more dinosaurian/archosaurian base. They have feathers, more dinosaur/crocodile traits, because I think if dragons were to come from anywhere, that would probably be it. I mean look at Yi Qi, this thing is a dragon, you can't tell me otherwise

(Art by Emily Willoughby)
Here's my taxonomy chart for wings of fire so far.
Tumblr media
You'd have some kind of first dragon. Then they would split from there. I don't care about allwings from Flames of Hope they can jump off a bridge. Also don't mind the "Sunwings" That's just a placeholder name for whatever ancestor had traits that led to all the below ancestors. I'm working on a way to explain my ideas more eloquently when I do my tribe overview redos, so this will all be expanded upon later once I can collect my thoughts.
