Kat: Yeah. Computers are super, super good at counting. They’re super, super good at finding and identifying these strings. But they’re not very good at the analysis bit. We don’t want our computer to do the analysis for us. We want to be very aware of the kind of software and the kind of programming that goes into it that give us the results. Because we as humans are fantastically sensitive to language. That’s where the human element comes in. It’s why we don’t just leave it all to the computers to just do as they will with it.
Gretchen: It’s really a lot more of a partnership between the computer showing you some things and the human making meaning out of that.
Kat: Exactly. It’s meant to be a partnership where you play to each other’s strengths. You let the computer do the bit it’s good at, and then you do the bit you’re good at. Excerpt from Lingthusiasm episode: Corpus linguistics and consent - Interview with Kat Gupta

KaySun: These Unbridled Thoughts (Episode 61 rewrite) 🔞❤️‍🔥
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I am back with a steamy rewrite of that Episode 61 scene, because no one can convince me that KaySun did not want to fck then and there among the shattered remains of their bedroom. 🔞❤️‍🔥
I am really grateful for all the positive feedback I have received on Wattpad, AO3, and of course, Twitter and Instagram so far—because people seemed to like the way Suna’s emotions were covered, and ofc the KaySun smut.
Special thanks to my homegirl Yasha for helping create a new cover for Ultraviolence as well. 🖤
SUMMARY:
A rewrite of that specific Episode 61 scene, when Suna gets all up in Kaya's face and taunts him. You could cut the sexual tension in that room with a knife. I can't prove it, but they almost kissed. What if Suna let her intrusive thoughts win? What if Kaya gave into his desires? Well, they'd do more than just kiss, then.
Anyway, I saw Taylor last week for the Eras Tour, and aside from the fact that she was amazing, she sang False God X Slut!—meaning KaySun endgame, of course! 🩵🧿🙏🏻

More tunnels... I don't like it. It makes me assume that Breekon & Hope are somehow connected to Michael, like they find victims for him but I don't know why he would need them to.
Daisy is interesting. I do love a woman who could kick my ass. Here's hoping we see more of her.

I didn’t think much of Dungeons and Daddies
I was like its a d&d podcast and I’m all caught up on NADPOD and I don’t wanna deal with the current adventure zone arc, and critical role is a beast, so i’ll give it a shot
61 episodes in, I’m sobbing over Ron Stampler, how has this occurred

“My joy would be complete Dear, if You were only here”
The thought to intervene didn’t cross my mind even for a split second. I, the Arlequín, couldn’t get in between the last exchange of powers of the Kings.
Only moments before I was ready for a new game. For months or even years of teasing and dancing around. Of this pure excitement coming from insulting power so close to God and waiting for the consequences coming from this.
“You don’t trust anything you can’t manipulate”. “Allies”. No. It wasn’t Us. We didn’t need this kind of arrangement. When you are aware of being manipulated can you even still call it that? When you give up all the of the power and willingly pass it onto the altar where The Holy Man multiply it and put it towards much bigger goal. Is that what manipulation really is?
With my own eyes I saw the work of Deus ex machina. The greater power appeared and carried Him into the the night sky only to shatter whatever was left of the fragile Body.
Suddenly I was freed from this living nightmare I was stuck for so long. With His death came sudden realization. This deep and (ha) simple truth about myself. Feelings. This mysterious power that drive us humans to be reckless. That bonds us to perform in ways that we would never dare to if not for them.
That’s why I ask you God why couldn’t I be born with a will to accept them. To understand them. To be able to treat them as a part of me not as an enemy I have to conquer. Why I have to lose to win this truth so natural for other human beings.
Why? Why? Why?
Instead I was blessed with finally holding his hand in mine. I press it to my heart. I press it to my lips and forehead. I gave myself a last anointing with this holy hand of His.
and here’s a playlist i made about this two fuckers, maybe someone will find it useful
i recommend this song so much, it’s funny for me in our situation

For the most part, I'm perfectly okay with how this duel plays out, tbh. Misty is an excellent opponent for Aki, her mirror maze field spell is a good set piece for the whole "you killed my brother; look your own cruelty in the eyes"-angle, Aki getting to duel with zero restraint for a bit is kinda cool, and even the fact that Divine shows up again out of nowhere is fine because his exit from the narrative would have otherwise been dreadfully boring for such a compelling, minor antagonist, to say the least. (Though I do wish they'd bothered explaining how the hell he survived the Arcadia building's collapse. My personal hc is that he saved himself with his psychic powers somehow.) And the whole mind control thing, as vague as it is in canon, at least really hammers home that Divine's despicable and that Aki's better off without him. (Arguably, a version of this duel without Aki being mind-controlled at all could have been interesting, but tbh I think that would have needed to be set up a little differently. But I'm not here to talk about that.)
There is one thing I absolutely would have changed, though, and it's precisely the scene above. Like, don't get me wrong, I love Yusei, he's a great protagonist and I could never be mad at him for saving the day. But the mind control bit is one thing where I wish it hadn't been him who'd broken it. I'm fine with him exposing Divine in front of Misty, that scene delivers some really good comeuppance and showcases yet again how good Yusei is at coming up with plans and executing them quickly; it's a smart move from a smart guy and feels earned. (And I love his dumb grin when he says "my duel disk is home-made". Bastard (affectionate).) However, I wish they'd let Aki snap out of the mind control on her own before Divine gets gobbled up by Ccarayhua. I can guess why they didn't do that—Yusei's the protagonist, after all, and this is still primarily his show. (And arguably Jack's, but that's basically the standard modus operandi for yugioh protag/rival duos anyway.) So of course he gets to save the day here, because he's already been established as the guy who was willing to be in Aki's corner even back when she was still willfully trying to hurt people at this point, too. So I get it.
But still.
Especially in light of how Aki gets sidelined once this arc ends, it would have been nice if they'd at least let her leave her spot in the limelight with a flourish. Her relationship to Divine and the Arcadia Movement are never explored again past this point, anyway, save for a few throwaway remarks that tell us basically nothing about how Aki worked through all that. So why not give her this? In light of her circumstances, it made sense that she was happy to see Divine had survived at first during this duel, but why not let the mind control thing be the moment where she realises just how much of a horrible person he is? Let her realise that he's willing to go as far as overriding her free will entirely just to use her for his cruel purposes, and let that be the moment she finally breaks free of him on her own, without anyone telling her Divine and Arcadia are bad (no matter how well-intentioned those people are). If they couldn't give us any follow-up whatsoever about how Aki dealt with being back home, with having been a part of a cult for a while, and with realising that her former mentor/protector was a genuinely horrid human being, they could have at least given us this tiny moment where Aki broke free by herself. As much as I love Yusei, I just think they should have let Aki save herself here. It could have been such a powerful moment to see her shake herself out of that control, unwilling to hurt Misty, who's grief she felt sorry for, and most of all, unwilling to hurt or let her new friends be hurt.
So yeah. Good duel, massive missed opportunity imo.

Shedding Skin (1981) by Harryette Mullen
In Episode 61, Rachel shares (in the first Live Poetry Corner!) a short but evocative poem.
Rachel: ...in an interview for The Poetry Project, she (Harryette Mullen) said, “The linguistic, regional and cultural differences marked by Southern dialect, Black English, Spanish and Spanglish are fundamental to how I think about language and how I work with language and poetry. My attraction to the minor in the marginal, to the flavor of difference in language has something to do with this sense of heteroglossia that was part of the environment of my childhood in Texas.”
Griffin: Fuck yeah. I got way smarter just hearing you say all that stuff.
Rachel: If that wasn't cool enough for you... Uh, she is currently teaching in California and so I emailed her directly, and asked her if I could have her permission to read a poem.
Griffin: What if she just like lower down from the ceiling on cables right now? Like, "What's up motherfuckers? Here it comes."
Rachel has mentioned a few times on the show how she's a big fan of a good last line, and oh yeah, this one definitely makes it to the pantheon of endings that slap. If you'd like to hear the crowd's reaction to the poem and Rachel's full segment, you can do so here: Our Favorite Austin Stuff, Live! from 20:07-27:01.
