People don’t “fall in love”

In my previous post I have brought up the idea of modern romance being viewed and treated as a social mind game, and the use of phrases similar to the vocabulary used in poker. As the title states, it is impossible for one to fall in love. More accurately speaking, this is yet again a matter of the fault in the English dictionary. 

In Japan, a similar phrase is used: 恋に落ちる “koi ni ochiru”. The meaning for the phrase is much alike to the english phrase “fall in love”. “Ochiru” translates to fall, and “koi” translates to romantic love. However, what is different with the Japanese phrase is that there is a different term 愛 “ai” that equates to the English translation of “love”. There has been many debate between the difference between “koi” and “ai” among Japanese scholars, and in short, “ai” is understood to be a deeper level of love than “koi”. 

Why I think the Japanese phrase of “koi ni ochiru” is slightly more tolerable than the English “falling in love”, is because the lighter sense of love, “koi” is used instead of “ai” love. That is to say, one does not fall in love, but nurture love together. The term “fall” implies that it was an unforeseeable circumstance in which one did not have control over. Desires, perhaps. But love? No. What one actually means when they have “fallen in love” is the fact that they have failed to resist their sexual desire for another or their gambling addiction. When one thinks they are in love with another, the feeling does not become love until it has been clear that the feelings are reciprocated equally. Not until the two thinks for, cares for, and adores the other equally, there is no love between the two. But once love has been brought up, the degree to which the love can be nurtured is limitless; till death do them apart, as a matter of fact. Therefore, it is wrong to say one has “fallen in love”, because love can only be nurtured. It is a choice that one makes, a commitment, an effort, and not a passive matter.

La libertad como problema psicológico

"...Freud eligió el termino sublimación para señalar esta extraña transformación que conduce de la represión a la conducta civilizada. Si el volumen de la represión es mayor que la capacidad de sublimación, los individuos se tornan neuróticas y entonces se hace preciso conceder una merma en la represión. Generalmente, sin embargo, existe una relación inversa entre la satisfacción de los impulsos humanos y la cultura: a mayor represión, mayor cultura..."

Por eso se habla de una individualidad marcada en las relaciones. Por eso al final del día se habla de construir con muestras manos lo que queremos lograr, nuestras pulsiones. No vivimos para la sociedad, no vivimos para nuestra familia, ni nuestra familia vive por nosotros. Por un lado eso, por otro recordemos que nadie puede reprimir el ello con todas sus fuerzas, ya que cuando salga explota y sale de una forma que no vamos a controlar.

¿Ser nosotros mismos viene con el hecho de ser moralmente y éticamente incorrectos? Si. Vivimos en sociedades con muchos limites, y hay personas que no logran reprimir toda la conducta, lo que genera a la larga una neurosis. Es algo raro pensar que las personas que encuentran su camino a sobresalir ese ello sin miedo, son personas que no las colocamos a lo normal. Alguien que hace mucho ruido no le sirve a la sociedad, alguien que es diferente lo miramos raro, no tan solo por no conocerlo, sino porque lo tildamos de loco. Cuando por ahí simplemente tiene ideas diferentes que dependiendo de la manera en la que lo comunicamos, escuchamos o no. Porque eso elegimos individualmente, a que escuchamos y a que no. Y eso va con muchas cosas, que puntualmente queremos escuchar.

Habla de de "cultura" a lo que comúnmente le decimos sociedad, o vivir en armonía con todos.
