Steamy Relaxation
Erick strode into his bedroom after having almost dashed in, while he wasn't technically running from his Personal Aid Yesuntei. He was also trying to avoid her, as she'd had a stacked folder in hand while talking to Dark Autumn. They'd been exchanging pleasantries, but that folder meant the odds that Yesuntei had something for him to deal with was rather high. She was a boon and a bane, the Xaela was an extremely efficient aide which could be rather bad sometimes when it came to business. She still hadn't quite grasped some of the intricacies of business, of not immediately replying to every contract request, how that sometimes running the clock down was needed to acquire a more lucrative deal for the company.
He let out a more relaxed sigh before heading to the attached bathroom in his private quarters. The hyur turned the shower on before undressing and slipping inside closing the glass doors to let the steam fog them up. Private showers were not a common household utility, they were a luxury item due to the plumbing and cost of setting them up, not to mention the cost in ceruleum to run the generator to heat the water. However, luxury was something Erick would always enjoy when given the opportunity.
Erick made sure to take his time and enjoy the hot water, since when he was done, he'd have to try and duck back out of the company house without Yesuntei catching him. Eventually he shut the water off, the valves creaking slightly as they were closed, and the rush of water turned into a dripping dribble. He stepped out of the shower and started to reach for a towel before he felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end.
He closed his eyes and sighed, "No Erick, you're being a fool, she isn't behind you right now because that'd put her in the shower."
"No, I'm not behind you Erick, I'm in front of you." Came a soft-spoken voice.
Erick's eyes opened and he had to resist the urge to jump straight up as Yesuntei was indeed standing in front of him. The shorter woman had her head tilted upwards, her blue eyes with their bright limbal rings gazing up at the soaking wet and very nude Erick. Despite this Erick did manage to only slightly jolt in surprise. "Seven hells! Yesuntei, you can't just walk into my bathroom while I'm showering!"
Yesuntei quirked her head to the side slightly, "Why not? Everyone hangs out in the company hot tub together some nights." Her tone indicated that the xaela woman really did not understand what the issue was at all.
"That's different, people are still somewhat clothed." Erick stated, not quite knowing where to start with this one as sometimes he still didn't quite get if it was just a cultural thing or if Yesuntei was just being extremely coy.
"Yes, I do find it odd that you insist people wear a, -bathing suit- in the tub." She replied while air quoting the last part.
"I'm not the only one that would, I'm just the one that went out to relax in the tub and found you using it."
"You really didn't relax all that much that night, after your eyes got really big you nearly ran right through the door to the company house." Yesuntei remarked wryly a rather small smirk on her lips.
"You were naked!" Erick shouted out a bit too loudly in hindsight. Thank the gods he had invested in some sound proofing for his bedroom to keep out prying ears.
Yesuntei shrugged, "That is how I normally bathe, even if it is for relaxation. Nudity isn't inherently sexual."
The Xaela's words made Erick blink, suddenly realizing that not only was he still naked, but that he'd gone from trying to chastise Yesuntei to debating her on the propriety of nakedness. He paused and drew in a breath, letting it out slowly as he grabbed the towel he had been reaching for earlier, wrapping it around his waist. "Nevermind all that, what do you want?"
She smiled cheerfully back at him and raised up a clipboard in one hand and a pen in the other, "I need you to sign these."
"These are the contract forms for the antique buyer in Ul'dah." Erick stated after glancing over the front form. "We're waiting on that."
"But he's extremely eager to purchase those vases, and you really want to sell them, so it can all be resolved without delay." Her voice was still cheerful but there was a certain amount of confusion in it as well.
Erick pinched the bridge of his nose as he thought for a moment, "Look, Yesuntei, I appreciate your work ethic. But in business, some things you don't want to resolve immediately. If I wait a few days, and make him think someone else is maybe giving a higher offer, he might raise his own."
The pale skinned xaela tapped her chin with the pen briefly, "But resolving a situation to the mutual benefit of both parties allows both to resume their other activities. That is generally how things were on the steppe."
"Yes, but on the Steppe your deals involved food, needed resources, if you didn't resolve them then your tribes would end up fighting, right?"
"That's right, yes." She nodded.
"Right, critical resources, these are Vases. If they get bought, we make Gil, if they don't get bought, we don't make Gil but we don't go to war or anything. I just end up sad from the lost opportunity." He elaborated, hoping his explanation would help.
"I see, but the company not making gil in a sure thing would be bad, and you being unhappy would made Meya unhappy. So it is better to resolve it as soon as possible so everyone can be happy!" She replied holding the clipboard up again.
Erick sighed and scratched the back of his head, "We'll deal with this in a couple of days, Yesuntei, not right now in the middle of the bathroom with me almost naked. What would Meya think if she walked in and saw this scene right now?"
Yesuntei just smiled brightly, "That you're finally getting down to business?"
Erick just stared blankly at the young xaela woman. One could almost hear his brain crashing from that sudden line that had been spoken so innocently yet could have several different meanings, meanings that he was positive the Kagon was aware of. He blinked after a moment, "You did that on purpose."
"I don't know what you mean Erick," Her tone was very much one of sunshine mischief now.
"Anyway... as I said, we'll deal with the contract later. Now please, I'm not going to get dressed in front of my aide."
"Of course!"
Erick closed his eyes and sighed, half debating getting back in the shower so he could relax again. When he opened them Yesuntei was gone, having left without a sound. "How in the blazes does she do that?"

dreamtime: mathye has a dream about his boss Erick
Erick was dying.
Erick was dying and it was his own damn fault, he should have been more watchful, he should have double-checked the manor again, he should have paid more attention to the incoming mail, something had triggered his senses about that box but he'd not listened--
"You fucking blond-haired smug money humping son of a bitch!! Don't! Don't you fucking dare!!"
He was on his knees, hands on Erick, channeling every scrap of power he had into the cleansing spell, but he wasn't fast enough, he could feel the other man's brain failing, could feel the soul starting to break from the bonds that held it to the body. And as the brain failed, so did the other organs begin to follow--lungs refusing to draw in air, liver beginning to shut down, the heart starting to slow--
----------------
Mathye bolted up from his bed in a cold sweat. He stared sightlessly at the wall for several moments before he got up. He needed to search the headquarters again for any trace of liquor, top to bottom.

Nothing Surprises Apple This Starlight
Apple opened the entryway to the Gage manor, her home away from the bustle of the cities. It was always nice to seek reprieve here, a place of friends and colleagues rather than fans and onlookers. Erick certainly took a lot of pride in jumpstarting the Warrior of Light's journey, but he also had leveraged enough funds to keep his grounds free from prying eyes. Outside of traveling the wilds... she could think of no other place she'd rather spend the holidays than this little Gridanian hideaway. Fate had even blessed them with a bit of snowfall this eve, though a bit of wind sent her shivering as she closed the door up behind her. She liked the cold, even more so the snow, having rarely experienced it growing up in La Nosca. As she looked up she saw a figure standing on the Estate's small bridge fording the stream that flowed through the grounds, it seemed she wasn't alone in her love of this turn of the weather. She gave a distant wave and approached, only to find more and more familiarity in each step... which quickened into a desperate run as she realized just -who this figure was.
Tumblr media
Zero's face didn't give much away of her thoughts, as usual, but a slight smile graced her lips, and she shifter her stance towards her wayward love to absorb the impact of a desperate embrace, her armor clattering as Apple melted into an embrace with the stoic paladin, disbelief, joy, and a flood of emotions overtook the young summoner as she met Zero's lips, tears streaming down her face.
Zero had improved somewhat from their first admissions of love, a testament to her progress at reclaiming more of her humanity during her absences. There was more passion, an equal amount of longing in their reunion than Apple had expected, and she was quite grateful for it.
“How are you here? I know how to get to you but I didnt know you had a hand with Aether manipulation like that.”
Zero looked down giving Apple that warm smile that melted her heart. “I made a deal with Y’shtola, helped with her tests, she insisted you would enjoy the surprise…. Did you not?”
Apple's surprise and wonder shifted to exasperation. “I am going to strangle that woman…. She insisted she couldnt open the doorway again for six months, didn't want to risk punching through again until the adjustments were ready!”
Apple pouted a bit, mostly for falling for the Witch’s ruse, Y’stola was usually one for pushing boundaries, not excessive caution.
Worry took over Zero's visage, her voice returning to that inexperienced woman trying to understand the unfamiliar world around her that Apple had always found so very charming. “I hadnt intended the deception to inspire murder. Please, if you must mete out punishment, I would take her place, id never wish to sever a bond between you and your comrades.”
Apple looked up at her, puzzled. Her lips quivered into a smirk, then a smile, and into a burst of laughter. She pulled Zero closer to her, leaning up to kiss her, lingering in the joy of their reunion
The taller woman was puzzled by the shift, but glad at both the warmth of the gesture, and the ceasing of her girlfriend’s wrath.
"Come on inside, Zero." Apple took her hand and led her toward the estate. "I need to introduce you to everyone... I bet you could use a bath and some warm food."
Zero did not protest.

Vierapril, Day 17 - Energy
Tumblr media
Ahhh, there's nothing quite like a cup of hot tea to raise one's spirits, and lower one's blood pressure.
One has to remember, it's important to recharge depleted adventuring energy reserves. Let oneself be whisked away to a world of comfort, and squishy cushions, and soft fabrics.
There's nothing wrong with this picture. Nothing at all. Minti Chocolate is supposed to be here, relaxing. She's had a long day of being herself. It can be very taxing being a bunny adventurer.
Nothing could shake the Jenga tower of serenity built up in this moment. Not even Dark Autumn, or Erick Gage, coworkers both, preparing to violently eject a bunny from a chair she's not supposed to be in.
It's good to be a bunny today.

FFXIV Write, Day 1: Cross
FXIV Day 1: Cross
Tumblr media
[Minti Chocolate, the Warrior of Light]
In which a bunny finds her plate of dango eaten and has some terribly written conversation. Contains Stormblood and Endwalker spoilers.
Gage Acquisitions Free Company HQ, Private Quarters. Ul’dah.
The bird was inside the room this time.
The bird, or more correctly, the large phoenix that had been flying near Gage Acquisitions, was inside Minti Chocolate’s private chambers. Fully inside and pecking away at the plate of dango, sweet rice dumplings, that the viera adventurer kept as a midnight snack. Any more furious a motion and the plate would surely wobble off the writing desk it was on and break on the marble tiled floor.
Before, the phoenix’d been content to simply hop back and forth outside Minti's window, tapping anxiously on the glass with its beak, occasionally nibbling on the small flying bugs that came with the Ul’dah summer heat waves. Any attempt to get near it would cause the bird to startle, sending a flurry of reddish orange feathers everywhere, but mostly in Minti Chocolate’s face and up her nose. Wah-CHOO! After getting scared – again – the bird would furiously flap its wings and head off towards Southern Thanalan, to cool itself off near the endless chasms south of Forgotten Springs. Did firebirds cool themselves off like normal birds? That would be a question for Zoisette the next time they were out raiding.
Unlike before, one of the windows had been pried open, and said phoenix was circling the large carbuncle rug in the room with a half-finished dango stick in its beak, chirping to itself. It did another half circle of the rug before deciding that the unlit fireplace would be the perfect place to roost.
This all would have been quite easy to avoid if Minti had just kept the windows closed and locked, as she had been doing to deafen the sounds of exploding fireworks. It was The Rising season and people had a right to celebrate the rebirth of the realm at large. Didn’t mean that she needed to hear the local boys setting off another bushel of “Crystal Brave Cracklers.” Not at all. What she needed was rest before going to Thavnair to see what had come of recent events.
Unfortunately, sleep and rolling heatwaves do not mix very well, leaving the viera rolling back and forth in her bed and her sheets kicked off to one side. But then there had been that nice cool breeze, tempting Minti to open the windows just this once…
“Out! Out!” Drowsy from sleep, but awake enough to know when something wasn’t right, Minti waved her arms towards the phoenix. The viera was dressed in a nightgown inspired by this year’s Moonfire festival – black satin with silver and gold thread made to look like shimmering jewels. Her normally long, straight hair, graying at the ends after years of adventuring work, was a curly, frizzled mess, thanks to the heat. Black splotches around her lips hinted at what yesterday’s make-up had been. “It’s time for all birdies to sleep. Not eat my stuff…or climb in my window…or be phoenixes.” Phoeni? Phoenixuses? What was happening, anyways? Was this some deep trauma from Erick’s great idea to help those Sharlayan scientists with that jewelry they found?
“Really, Tenzen, you must not keep yourself locked away in such a horrid cell,” the phoenix chided in a deep alto. “How else am I supposed to come visit and bring you an evening’s worth of joy with my songs? And what is this nest? You must make it bigger – I can’t sit properly! Oh, woe to us both!”
That voice. Minti knew that voice. She rubbed her eyes and slowly sat back down on her bed. “Suzaku? Is that you?” If she was right, that voice belonged to an incredibly old auspice – an enlightened animal from the Far East – who had once taken a human form and soared alongside the Doman folk hero, Tenzen. More recently, it had taken Minti and a group of adventurers to calm Suzaku’s aramitama, her raging spirit, and bring her peace. By the Twelve, Suzaku was so beautiful, especially when she played her flute.
“Yes, it is I, my long-lost love, once more at your side. Will you not rejoice and share this sweetened treasure with me?” Suzaku waved the remains of dango towards Minti. “I could sing a song extolling its delights for you, if you wish.”
Minti blinked her eyes. “It’s nearly 3 in the morning, and I need to sleep.”
“Sleep? What is sleep but a wall that keeps us from being in each other's arms, my love?” The phoenix spread her wings out wide. “A never-ending wall of sadness and despair, and-”
“Why are you here? And it’s Minti. Min-tee. I haven’t been Tenzen in a long time, if I ever was.”
Suzaku chirruped. “I see. Straight to the point as always. Very well.” If a bird could look annoyed, well…
“I’m very upset at you, Tenzen. Min-tee. Off you go on adventure after adventure, and never have you once come to visit me, or ask if I wish to come along. Not once. That oversized cat of yours sees more love if I must be frank. I’m quite cross.”
Oversized cat? Which one?
“I beg you, I plead with you! Take me!” With a loud flap, Suzaku flew from the fireplace right into Minti’s unsupecting lap, resting her head against the viera’s chest. By the Twelve, she's just warm enough. I could get used to th- No, Minti, she is an old bird spirit, and you are a….oh gods I need sleep.
“Although, I must admit, it has not been very long since our last encounter, at the time of eggs. Or the one previous. I’m getting better at holding a human form, I promise. You will see.” The phoenix took her wing and nudged Minti’s hand over towards her incredibly soft feathers.
“I feel like I cannot give you a proper answer right now, because. Because it’s late, and I would really prefer to talk about this when I am good and rested.” Minti stroked the bird’s feathers absentmindedly. “You can’t just barge in to my ‘cell’ like that.”
“But I knocked! I tapped upon the window, and you did nothing to provide me succor.”
“It’s not just that. It’s, it’s complicated.” Minti frowned. “If you’re not going to leave, could you at least turn yourself into your human form for me? I’d feel more comfortable with you like that while I sleep.”
With another chirrup, Suzaku hopped off Minti’s lap onto the floor. “Very well. I’ll even play my flute for you. A private performance, to help you sleep. But in the morning, I must have your word.”
The rest of the night was filled with the soft sounds of a flute being played, and the snores of a bunny who had stayed up long past her bedtime. The morning would come, yes, on Minti's time. And with it, the answer a beautiful phoenix had long been waiting for.

💘 fake relationship / mutual pining / dared to kiss Zoi/Mathye
💚 true love’s kiss / magic kiss / healed Zoi and Erick
🖤 kissing while crying / goodbye kiss / desperation Zoi and Aymeric
🤍 kiss at the wedding / milestone Zoi and Y'shtola
💘 fake relationship Zoissette paced as she thought. This was surely ridiculous. She was too in her head again, that was all. Fooling herself. And about to do something that would make a fool of her. She was just lost after her journey through the rift. Still out of sorts. She just latched on and re-ignited old childish feelings just because Y'shtola had been there to catch her when she came out of the rift.
But then, so had Mathye, right?
This was stupid, she decided. Next time she saw him, she was going to figure this out for sure. Surely a true enough kiss would ignite the spark she had so long sought. She resolved to do so, next time she saw him.
(…and we all know how that turned out)
💚 true love’s kiss / magic kiss / healed Zoi and Erick
Meya stood near Erick, her eyes half-closed in concentration as she channeled aether into her staff, sending a steady stream of powerful healing magics pouring into his body. Zoissette had her codex open nearby, as she tended to rather more specific injuries, applying bandages and stitching sutures.
“Hey, wow, this really hurts,” he said. “You know, I hear good things about the healing powers of true love’s kiss.”
“Your true love is a little occupied keeping your true aether inside of your true body,” said Zoissette. “And I truly do not know how you get yourself in these messes.”
“Well, maybe I’ll settle for a magic kiss, whatdaysay?”
Zoissette gave Erick a flat look. “Right in front of Meya? Really?”
Meya did not break concentration, but did allow herself a slight smile. “Oh, I don’t mind, I know he’s just being funny.”
“Still though,” said Zoissette, picking her codex up and giving Erick a light thwap on the head. “Behave.”
“Ow. Yes, ser,” he groused. Zoissette shot him a look, but then shook her head and went back to work. Meya giggled.
🖤 kissing while crying / goodbye kiss / desperation Zoi and Aymeric
He still was with her, the next day, as she prepared to go on her journey. A simple breakfast passed companionably, and through their conversation, he had seen many things in her. A gentle pain in her words, a soft ache in her expressions. But also, relief. Relief in every ilm of her. A kind of relief, that allowed her to relax, that kept her from hiding as she was oft wont to do, that let her be honest with herself and with him.
He treasured that more than anything that had happened over the last many moons.
And then it was time for her to leave. They kissed, at the door, one last kiss, one last way to say goodbye. She had been soft against his lips, had flowed into it, not with the heat of passion, but with the genuine desire for connection, and he had met her with the same, and the moment had hung like a question waiting for an answer.
But they knew the answer already, and so they had separated, and she had gifted him with one of her rare, genuine smiles as she left.
He managed to hold himself once she was gone, with a relaxed and content smile on his face. It stayed there, as he gave out instructions to the staff for the day. Even as he, at last, retired to his study, closing the door carefully behind him, and latching it shut. It only faded as he slowly sat himself down in his chair, and allowed himself, at last, to sob into his hands.
This would be a good thing, for both of them.
That didn’t mean that it didn’t hurt like hell, though.
🤍 kiss at the wedding / milestone Zoi and Y'shtola
Oh, I think I’ll save this one for later.

#4 Primal - Auraugust 2023
The Golem's fist slammed in against the shield, pushing Erick backwards as he dug his heels in to press back against the attack. Retaliating a moment later with a sword slash charged with aether that rocked the enormous Golem, sending it reeling away. Erick moved forward ready to exploit the opening, his shield up, sword arm at the ready.
When that damnable voice suddenly spoke from behind him, "Erick, I have something for you to sign."
Erick impulsively spun around in a knee jerk reaction from the surprise of Yesuntei's appearance. His sword swinging wide as the pale Xaela ducked beneath it rather nonchalantly. "Seven Hells Yesuntei! Can't you see I'm a little busy right now!?"
She nodded as she straightened up, "Yes, you are currently fighting a small group of Golems."
"And I was just about to finish it- … Golems?" Erick turned his head just in time to see a Rocky fist flying towards him. The Hyur had just enough time to bring his shield up, but the blow still sent him flying backwards and crashing into the ground. He shook his head to clear his vision, noting that yes there was indeed more than one golem, three Golems in fact.
"Sir, I really do need to get this signed," Yesuntei stated lightly leaning over Erick while holding out a clipboard with some paperwork that looked like it was nearly overdue. Behind her a golem could be seen charging forward its heavy footfalls reverberating in the ruins.
"Now is really not the time for this Yesuntei," Erick started getting to his feet but his armor slowed him down. And the golem was already winding up its swing as it thundered closer.
Yesuntei sighed, reaching back she unsheathed her scythe the blade clanking into place as the Xaela did a backhand swing with a half spin she unleashed a aether charged strike against the golem slicing it in half.
"Erick you've been putting off this paperwork for a week, it's never the time, this sudden contract to stop a 'Primal Threat' really appeared out of nowhere did it not?" She put simply while turning back to face Erick once more.
Erick frowned briefly, it was true that he had spotted first contract he saw and proclaimed it was a possible Primal Threat and then run off just to get out of signing that paperwork. He had never expected Yesuntei to actually follow him afterwards, and he certainly wasn't going to give her the satisfaction of confirming it either.
"And right now, I am extremely busy!" Erick replied as another Golem moved in to attack. He charged forward with his shield up, slamming it into the Golem to stop its attack pemtively, even as he brought his sword to bear. He delivered multiple slashes in an eyeblink to the golem causing it to crumble and fall into a heap. "And just one left."
He turned in time to see Yesuntei decapitating the Golem he had wounded earlier. Erick let out a bit of a sigh as if he knew what was coming next, closing his eyes briefly and shaking his head. When he opened them Yesuntei was standing next to him once more with that clipboard held out.
"It seems you are no longer busy Erick." She smiled lightly.
Erick rolled his eyes, "Fine, give me the bloody pen."

What does Thancred think about that Gage Acquisition group Aeryn sometimes runs with?
(This all, of course, pertains only to 1 roleplay/ficverse version of Gage Acq concerning my WoL, mileage may vary, other player headcanons may apply, void where prohibited)
It's a known fact that (RP) Erick Gage and Thancred Waters cannot stand one another. Thancred scouted Erick out as an Echo-haver years ago in Ul'dah when Erick was an unknown learning at the Gladiator guild. Thancred introduced Erick to the Scions, where Erick was given time to think about Minfilia's offer to join the order...and promptly formed his own free company and snatched up several other Echo-having adventurers, offering to contract their services to the Scions when they needed aid.
Erick may not be a native of Thanalan, but the place suits him well, and he certainly thinks like an Ul'dahn. Erick's player even wrote about the contention during the FFXIV Write this year.
It really doesn't help that Thancred and Erick are quite similar in some ways, which only adds to the friction between them. He wrote about that too.
The rest are...fine. From steady pillars, to fun kinds of trouble he understands, to valiant fighters, to helpful scholars who remind him of his Scions companions, to young fresh-faced adventurers that set off his older brother/Dadcred tendencies--Gage Acquisitions is a diverse group of heroic adventurers always willing to throw themselves into the fray to help, regardless of their foibles and issues, or their boss.
Everyone know Dark Autumn's holding things together anyway; he wants to get anything done with them, Thancred goes through her. She's less of an arse than Gage.
And the less said of Erick's twin sister the better; that woman's naught but trouble.
In the end, Aeryn loves and relies on them as friends and comrades, so regardless of any personal issues Thancred has, he can deal with them for her sake. And they are really handy in a fight.
He still doesn't get why and how Aeryn likes Erick so much. She just looks between her partner and her bro and shakes her head and sighs fondly.
@erickgage and the rest of my goobers.
