Fall Watering and Irrigation Winterization for Erie Colorado area landscapes
Fall Watering and Irrigation Winterization for Erie Colorado area landscapes, October 2023—The Front Range of Colorado can have beautiful weather in late September into early November. Warm days in the 70’s and cool nights in the 30’s lead to beautiful fall color as long as an early season cold front doesn’t freeze things too fast and cause plants to lose leaves early.

What are those pillars at the City of Boulder border?
There are two aging pillars at the east border of Boulder and Erie, Colorado. I have always wondered what these were used for. But just found out they are a WWI Memorial. #warmemorial #historical #history #historicalPlaces #historymatters
On the Northwest corner of Arapahoe Road and US 287 in Boulder, Colorado, stand two large sandstone pillars. For years I have wondered why these pillars were built. They sit right on the west border of Boulder, Colorado. You can tell they are old and not maintained. Come along with us as we take you to the pillars and tell their story. Click here to hear their…

okay not to be too earnest in your asks about 2929, but now that I have slept on it, a dynamic you mentioned that I think is very interesting with Nate/Leon is that Connor McDavid is always gonna be the love of Leon's life. & I'm very into the general concept of a platonic relationship being The Relationship of someone's life and the thing they build their life (and free agency) decisions on. because so often people assume you're gonna pick the romantic/sexual partner, and there's so much potential for messiness. like would Nate just assume leon would work some cap limit miracle (we're really in the stretching fictional believability now) to sign with Colorado so they can inflict the horrors of ASW on the entire team full time? would leon have never considered it because Connor is in Edmonton and unfortunately they are going down with that ship? would this be the greatest act of self-preservation Leon has ever committed? alas ej is not there to explain to nate that even people who go dick first into the world to make decisions have their limits. what is the opposite of make-up sex because that is what would happen the next time they saw each other, and there are now things cale and people three counties over cannot unknown. -patrichornkissed
I was thinking abt this ask all day going increasingly apeshit...I live very strongly in the belief that you can love someone and show up for someone in all the ways that matter and effectively be their soulmate without having any kind of romantic or sexual element to the relationship...you can be the love of someone's life and never once kiss. You can be deeply in love and totally committed to each other in life and there's zero sex or romance.
Anyway that's Leon and Connor and Leon will always put Connor first over every other relationship (Connor would do the same but this isn't about him.) Nate, whose romantic experiences are like Jo Drouin in high school, a series of ill-advised short relationships with local girls back home as an adult, and a very badly hidden crush on Ryan O'Reilly, probably thinks of the way him and Leon circle each other and clash and fight and bite and fuck as some kind of love -- to be consumed and to consume are a version of commitment, he thinks, and when Leon and Connor's contracts are up, he pitches Colorado to Leon, like you and me, what if we made it. Leon laughs in disbelief. He's not going anywhere without Connor and Colorado cannot afford both of them. It didn't even occur to him that Nate was an option, because, at the end of the day, he isn't. There's no one Leon would make a free agency decision for except Connor.
Nate has to learn the hard hard truth in the worst possible way that there's variations of commitment beyond marriage and sex, beyond consumption and heat. Their first meeting post-Leon and Connor signing in Anaheim is at Biosteel Camp. (No hate but I think Anaheim were below the cap floor this season so I'm pretty sure they are one of the few teams who could afford both of them. Also it's incredibly funny to think abt Jamie Drysdale and Trevor Zegras existing in the same space as Leon and Connor. Oh the hijinks.) It is intense and it is heated and it is hurtful in ways that harm themselves more than the other. It culminates in quite frankly unhinged sex in the apartment that Connor and Leon are short term renting that causes Connor to leave the premises and sleep in Travis Dermott's guest room even though Travis isn't even at Camp...like it's Bad-bad if he's going to his Erie teammates for help. Leon has ringing in his ears for several hours after and Nate feels like he's just played an SCF Game 7 that went into triple overtime. The worst part is Leon doesn't even kick him out immediately after. He's kind. He puts antiseptic on the scratches on Nate's arms, wipes a warm wash cloth over Nate's wet face. Nate leaves when he can't handle it anymore. Goes back to the house he is splitting with Cale and Ryan Graves and Sidney Crosby, all of whom are playing a deeply involved boardgame at the dining room table. It's 2am. Ryan and Sid register that something intense went down but not that his tender heart has been torn. Cale watches him carefully; he knows. Nate makes some excuse for himself and goes to bed alone.

NASA's innovative rocket nozzle paves way for deep space missions
NASA recently built and tested an additively-manufactured—or 3D printed—rocket engine nozzle made of aluminum, making it lighter than conventional nozzles and setting the course for deep space flights that can carry more payloads.
Under the agency's Announcement of Collaborative Opportunity, engineers from NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, partnered with Elementum 3D, in Erie, Colorado, to create a weldable type of aluminum that is heat resistant enough for use on rocket engines. Compared to other metals, aluminum is lower density and allows for high-strength, lightweight components.
However, due to its low tolerance to extreme heat and its tendency to crack during welding, aluminum is not typically used for additive manufacturing of rocket engine parts—until now.
Meet NASA's latest development under the Reactive Additive Manufacturing for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, or RAMFIRE, project. RAMFIRE focuses on advancing lightweight, additively-manufactured aluminum rocket nozzles. The nozzles are designed with small internal channels that keep the nozzle cool enough to prevent melting.
With conventional manufacturing methods, a nozzle may require as many as thousand individually joined parts. The RAMFIRE nozzle is built as a single piece, requiring far fewer bonds and significantly reduced manufacturing time.
NASA and Elementum 3D first developed the novel aluminum variant known as A6061-RAM2 to build the nozzle and modify the powder used with laser powder directed energy deposition (LP-DED) technology. Another commercial partner, RPM Innovations (RPMI) in Rapid City, South Dakota, used the newly invented aluminum and specialized powder to build the RAMFIRE nozzles using their LP-DED process.
"Industry partnerships with specialty manufacturing vendors aid in advancing the supply base and help make additive manufacturing more accessible for NASA missions and the broader commercial and aerospace industry," Paul Gradl, RAMFIRE principal investigator at NASA Marshall, said.
NASA's moon to Mars objectives require the capability to send more cargo to deep space destinations. The novel alloy could play an instrumental role in this by enabling the manufacturing of lightweight rocket components capable of withstanding high structural loads.
"Mass is critical for NASA's future deep space missions," said John Vickers, principal technologist for STMD advanced manufacturing. "Projects like this mature additive manufacturing along with advanced materials, and will help evolve new propulsion systems, in-space manufacturing, and infrastructure needed for NASA's ambitious missions to the moon, Mars, and beyond."
Earlier this summer at Marshall's East Test Area, two RAMFIRE nozzles completed multiple hot-fire tests using liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen, as well as liquid oxygen and liquid methane fuel configurations. With pressure chambers in excess of 825 pounds per square inch (psi)—more than anticipated testing pressures—the nozzles successfully accumulated 22 starts and 579 seconds, or nearly 10 minutes, of run time. This event demonstrates the nozzles can operate in the most demanding deep-space environments.
"This test series marks a significant milestone for the nozzle," Gradl said. "After putting the nozzle through the paces of a demanding hot-fire test series, we've demonstrated the nozzle can survive the thermal, structural, and pressure loads for a lunar lander scale engine."
In addition to successfully building and testing the rocket engine nozzles, the RAMFIRE project has used the RAMFIRE aluminum material and additive manufacturing process to construct other advanced large components for demonstration purposes. These include a 36-inch diameter aerospike nozzle with complex integral coolant channels and a vacuum-jacketed tank for cryogenic fluid applications.
NASA and industry partners are working to share the data and process with commercial stakeholders and academia. Various aerospace companies are evaluating the novel alloy and the LP-DED additive manufacturing process and looking for ways it can be used to make components for satellites and other applications.

Your OCs have to go into witness protection, where do they go, what are their new names and jobs? (And yes, I see Kestrel and Nikoletta, who are giving me "Really? You must be joking" looks...)
Oooh thank you! This is a really neat question!
Rae: Since she's already fluent in a lot of different languages, it's pretty easy for her to settle into a different life. She ends up in France, teaching English-language immersion for a public school under the name Raquel Moreau.
Robin: This one's tough... she's a performer, so a lot of people have seen her face and name before. She has to move across the country, and ends up working a low-profile job stocking shelves for a grocery chain under the name Melody Laurence. She doesn't get out much, since she's worried she'll be recognized. Peter isn't technically supposed to visit her, but they can't exactly stop him when he can zip across the country at a moment's notice
Madison: Um... how? She has a lot of extremely visible, identifiable physical mutations. The good news is, she'd be hard to identify without them, all she really needs to do is use Hank's serum every day and that's enough of a disguise. She ends up in Miami, working as a lifeguard on South Beach under the name Victoria Smythe.
Ophelia: She has to give up her hero work as Argonaut, which hurts her, but the rest is pretty easy to acclimate to. She's fluent in Italian already, so they move her out of the States entirely and settle her in Sicily, where she works as a civil architect with the name Luisa Abbiati
Jasper: Still works as a nurse, but is moved to a small town outside Denver, Colorado. They grow out their hair a little and stop dying it, and put together a wardrobe that's a little less flashy. Their new name is Rowan Evans
Katherine: Ends up moving back to the South, though is placed in Alabama rather than Tennessee (she is Not pleased about that). She works as a line cook during the day and spends her weekends organizing files for the local library archives, under the name Lashana Wells.
Kestrel: Well, you're right... they're not pleased about this at all, it took a lot of effort to build the life they have and they're honestly a little pissed at having to rewrite it all. The actual switch isn't too hard, since they can just shapeshift into another form and start using a different name and nobody would be able to tell the difference, but they're pretty miserable to have to give up their life as Kestrel.
Quinn: I mean... once she de-punks herself, she's actually pretty invisible. She lets her hair grow out and switches up her wardrobe, and bounces between menial jobs under the name Ramona "Mona" Ellis
Eris: Oh, they're terrible about this. They've been alive for centuries, but never once thought to switch up their identity. They're just... Eris. They're given an identity as a kickboxing instructor named Bellona Hardy, but that only lasts about a month before they get sick of it and just go back to their usual life (and spook the hell out of Rick when they suddenly pop back up in his apartment like nothing happened). They're sure they can take whoever's trying to hunt them down, anyway.
Nikoletta: Yeah, she's not thrill about this either. She's like "I literally just got out of prison, I'm happy for the first time in my entire life, and you expect me to leave?". She's moved to Salem, Oregon and given a job running historical tours for vacationers... which actually turns into a scam fairly similar to the one she ran in New Orleans. She knows she's not supposed to communicate with anyone from her normal life, but... there are rats in Salem, and she can't control what all they hear...
(I know you're not familiar with the Suicide Squad but another member of the team can control rats, so that's how Nikoletta subtly stays in touch with them)

The Other Joint Line
flickr
The Other Joint Line por Erie Limited Por Flickr: A pair of Southern Pacific AC4400s send a bit of smoke skyward while exiting the east end of the passing siding at Avondale, CO on BNSF's Pueblo Sub. In another 10 or so miles this loaded coal train will exit the BNSF main at NA Junction and continue toward Kansas on UP's former Missouri Pacific Hoisington Sub. I always thought of this operation as Colorado's "other Joint Line". It certainly wasn't as scenic as the actual Joint Line, but it did host a fair amount of volume and variety. By this date UP had controlled SP for all of three months, so not much had changed outwardly. Change was coming however, and UP would cease operation over most of the Hoisington Sub a year or two after the SP merger. Today the former UP trackage between NA Jct and the Kansas border is known as the Towner Line. It has been rehabilitated by Colorado Pacific Railroad with the intent of running grain shuttle trains and handling railcar storage business. SP 366 AC4400CW SP 342 AC4400CW

Another mass shooting in America, so where's this "good guy with a gun" that conservatives love to screech about whenever we bring up gun control?
A gunman wearing military gear and livestreaming with a helmet camera opened fire with a rifle at a Buffalo, New York, supermarket in what authorities described as “racially motived violent extremism,” killing 10 people and wounding three others Saturday before he surrendered, authorities said.
Police officials said the gunman, who also wore body armor in addition to military-style clothing, pulled up in the afternoon and opened fire amid shoppers at a Tops Friendly Market, the shooting streamed via a camera affixed to the man’s helmet.
“He exited his vehicle. He was very heavily armed. He had tactical gear. He had a tactical helmet on. He had a camera that he was livestreaming what he was doing,” city Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia said at a news conference afterward.
Gramaglia said the gunman initially shot four people outside the store, three fatally. Inside the store, a security guard who was a retired Buffalo police officer fired multiple shots at the gunman and struck him, but the bullet hit the gunman’s bulletproof vest and had no effect, Gramaglia added. The Commissioner said the gunman then killed the security guard.
Video also captured the suspect as he walked into the supermarket where he shot several other victims inside, according to authorities.
Police said 11 of the victims were Black and two are white. The supermarket is in a predominantly Black neighborhood a few miles (kilometers) north of downtown Buffalo.
“This is the worst nightmare that any community can face, and we are hurting and we are seething right now,” Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown said at the news conference. “The depth of pain that families are feeling and that all of us are feeling right now cannot even be explained.”
Gramaglia said Buffalo police entered the store and confronted the gunman in the vestibule.
“At that point the suspect put the gun to his own neck. Buffalo police personnel -- two patrol officers -- talked the suspect into dropping the gun. He dropped the gun, took off some of his tactical gear, surrendered at that point. And he was led outside, put in a police car,” he said.
The suspected gunman was later identified as Payton Gendron, 18, of Conklin, a New York state community about 200 miles (320 kilometers) southeast of Buffalo, two law enforcement officials told The Associated Press. The officials were not permitted to speak publicly on the matter and did so on the condition of anonymity.
The suspect was being questioned Saturday evening by the FBI, one of the officials said, and Conklin was expected to appear in court later Saturday.
At the news briefing, Erie County Sheriff John Garcia pointedly called the shooting a hate crime.
“This was pure evil. It was straight up racially motivated hate crime from somebody outside of our community, outside of the City of Good neighbors ... coming into our community and trying to inflict that evil upon us,” Garcia said.
Elsewhere, NAACP President Derrick Johnson issued a statement in which he called the shooting “absolutely devastating.”
“Our hearts are with the community and all who have been impacted by this terrible tragedy. Hate and racism have no place in America. We are shattered, extremely angered and praying for the victims’ families and loved ones,” he added.
Separately, the Rev. Al Sharpton called on the White House to convene a meeting with Black, Jewish and Asian “to underscore the Federal government (is) escalating its efforts against hate crimes.” In a tweet, Sharpton said that “leaders of all these communities should stand together on this!”
The shooting came little more than a year after a March 2021 attack at a King Soopers grocery in Boulder, Colorado, that killed 10 people. Investigators have not released any information about why they believe the man charged in that attack targeted the supermarket.
At the scene in Buffalo on Saturday afternoon, police closed off an entire block, lined by spectators, and yellow police taped surrounded the full parking lot.
Braedyn Kephart and Shane Hill, both 20, pulled into the parking lot just as the shooter was exiting. They described him as a white male in his late teens or early twenties sporting full camo, a black helmet and what appeared to be a rifle.
“He was standing there with the gun to his chin. We were like what the heck is going on? Why does this kid have a gun to his face?” Kephart said. He dropped to his knees. “He ripped off his helmet, dropped his gun, and was tackled by the police.”
Tops Friendly Markets released a statement saying, “We are shocked and deeply saddened by this senseless act of violence and our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.”
At the White House, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said President Joe Biden was receiving regular updates on the shooting and the investigation and had offered prayers with the first lady for the victims and their loved ones.
“The president has been briefed by his Homeland Security advisor on the horrific shooting in Buffalo, N.Y., this afternoon. He will continue to receive updates throughout the evening and tomorrow as further information develops,” she said.
Attorney General Merrick Garland was briefed on the shooting, Justice Department spokesperson Anthony Coley said.
More than two hours after the shooting, Erica Pugh-Mathews was waiting outside the store, behind police tape.
“We would like to know the status of my aunt, my mother’s sister. She was in there with her fiance, they separated and went to different aisles,” she said. “A bullet barely missed him. He was able to hide in a freezer but he was not able to get to my aunt and does not know where she is. We just would like word either way if she’s OK.”

Payton Gendron is the suspect accused of killing at least 10 people at a Tops Friendly Market grocery store in Buffalo, New York, on Saturday, May 14, 2022. Gendron was taken into custody at the scene, Buffalo Police said. Three others were wounded. Gendron is facing first-degree murder charges in New York state court and could also face federal charges, including hate crimes, officials said. The names of the victims have not been released yet.
A racist and anti-Semitic manifesto and a Twitch livestream were attributed online to the gunman, but authorities have not verified those accounts. A graphic video emerged that shows bodies lying in the parking lot as law enforcement officers take the suspect into custody. Gendron is from Conklin, New York. He said in the manifesto he is an 18-year-old college student and a self-described white supremacist. Gendron was shot by a security guard, but was not injured because he was wearing body armor, Buffalo Police said at a press conference
Conklin is more than 200 miles southeast of Buffalo in the Southern Tier region of New York. Gendron included his name in the manifesto and The Associated Press confirmed his identity with law enforcement sources. Gendron appeared in court Saturday night for his arraignment, officials said. He is being held without bail. He is scheduled to return to court in five days, according to authorities. A mugshot has not been released, but photos from the local media show Gendron in court:

The manifesto, which talks about the extremist far-right white or great replacement theory and includes alt-right 4chan memes and jokes, is similar to ones written by shooters who attacked a mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand, the Tree of Life synagogue in Pennsylvania and an El Paso, Texas, Walmart in recent years, Yale professor Jason Stanley says.
[...]
The manifesto fixates on mass immigration.
“Mass immigration and the higher fertility rates of the immigrants themselves are causing this increase in population. We are experiencing an invasion on a level never seen before in history,” it says. “Millions of people pouring across our borders, legally. Invited by the state and corporate entities to replace the White people who have failed to reproduce, failed to create the cheap labor, failed to create new consumers and tax base that the corporations and states need to have to thrive.”
It continues, “This crisis of mass immigration and sub-replacement fertility is an assault on the European people that, if not combated, will ultimately result in the complete racial and cultural replacement of the European people.”
The manifesto, which refers to “white genocide,” contains a name and says that the author is “18 years old as of writing this. I am the sole perpetrator of the recent attempted mass shooting. I lived in Southern Tier, New York all my life with both my parents and 2 brothers. I believe I am ethnically white since my parent’s nationalities are from north-western Europe and Italy. I graduated highschool with a regents diploma with advanced designation and am currently enrolled in SUNY Broome with a major in Engineering Science.”
It continues, “I would love to continue this but there are bigger problems I’m more concerned with. I am not a warfighter, nor have I been enrolled in any military or tactical training, so excuse any mistakes I make during my attack. I was never diagnosed with a mental disability or disorder, and I believe to be perfectly sane.”
He claimed to be an “INTJ” personality type and included photos of a fake active shooter that often circulate online after mass shootings. The manifesto contains many pages of anti-Jewish memes and graphics.
The manifesto states:
"Why did you decide to carry out the attack?
To show to the replacers that as long as the White man lives, our land will never be theirs and they will never be safe from us.
To directly reduce immigration rates to European lands by intimidating and physically removing the replacers themselves.
To intimidate the replacers already living on our lands to emigrate back to their home countries.
To agitate the political enemies of my people into action, to cause them to overextend their own hand and experience the eventual and inevitable backlash as a result.
To incite violence, retaliation and further divide between the European people and the replacers currently occupying European soil…
To add momentum to the pendulum swings of history, further destabilizing and polarizing Western society in order to eventually destroy the current nihilistic, hedonistic, individualistic insanity that has taken control of Western thought."
The shooting is being investigated as a hate crime and case of racially motivated violent extremism, FBI Special Agent in charge of the Buffalo field office Stephen Belongia said. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of New York is also assisting in the investigation along with state and local authorities.
Erie County District Attorney John Flynn said at the press conference, “This individual will be arranged on a charge of murder in the first degree.” He called the shooting “despicable.” Flynn added, “That charge of murder in the first degree carries with it a life without parole sentence.” He said additional charges could also be filed at a later date.

Rankings/thoughts on ACOTAR wedding/mating speeches? Like who’s giving the funniest one, whose is uncharacteristically sweet, who has to be dragged away from the mic bc they are drunk and sharing a lil too much lol
I wrote this two hours ago and when I got to #1 tumblr lost their shit and refreshed my page. This is ATTEMPT TWO (tumblr is trying to mess with the rankings, thinking with her pussy and not her brain)
17. Amren- handed a microphone but refused to speak. Created the most AWKWARD silence, ruined whole atmosphere
16. Jurian- Who gave that man a microphone? Awkward and angry, stumbling over his words until someone takes it from him and replaces it with very foamy beer. All is forgiven, he's not one for speeches
15. Azriel- "x and y...are married." Oh is that it? Okay, that's technically true. At least he said SOMETHING
14. Eris- Has all the charisma to pull this off yet after 15 minutes of speaking you realize he has been talking ONLY about himself. Has not said one word about bride or groom. Definitely trying to sell you something...but not sure what it is. Mentions forbidden Colorado trip in the last 2 minutes but only implies something requiring secrecy happened...just to remind everyone that he KNOWS.
13. Mor- Bubbly and friendly...too friendly with groom. Room wondering what, exactly, happened between them when she gushes she JUST wants him to be happy and LOVES him so much. Nothing happened between them...but whole room suddenly convinced she is in love with him.
12. Vassa- Emotional speech just a little TOO sarcastic and laced with enough f-bombs that your very conservative grandmother is MAD. Has forgotten we cannot be our most authentic selves when giving a speech, truly just goes for it.
11. Nesta- Everyone realizes halfway through that she H A T E S the groom. Groom is also realizing it. Has nothing nice to say about that man, implies heavily that bride could do better. Will be cited in divorce later on.
10. Emerie- it is a fact based speech. Would not be out of place at an academic conference. Drier than toast and yet someone manages not to mention Colorado trip, therefore a win.
9. Tamlin- Does not have the charisma for a speech. Awkward as he talks about how he knows these people. Feels angry, mood is all off. Cannot compliment them to save his life.
8. Rhysand- Is he aware this is not his chance to break into stand-up comedy? Too many jokes, not enough heartfelt emotion. Tells room of the blood oath sworn during Colorado trip, everyone now asking what happened. Does an actual mic-drop, it's not deserved.
7. Cassian- SO DRUNK. Who let this man speak? Tells room of what happened atop that mountain in Colorado. OH MY GOD TAKE THE MICROPHONE AWAY FROM HIM. Is given huge glass of water to chug, told to walk it off (but be quick about it, cha-cha slide is two songs away)
6. Helion- Knows how to read the room and what is he reading? A lot of single MILFS, that's what. Charming and irreverent...the sexual tension in this room is THICK. Upstaged the bride, great Helion, now she's crying.
5. Gwyn- Was doing a perfect job until she started singing. Whole room cringing- her voice is beautiful but like Rhysand, this is not your moment. Sit back down so we can eat.
4. Tarquin- Emotional, witty, handsome, Tarquin hits all the right notes. Gets choked up halfway through, swears he's fine but has to be led away. Emotional hug from the bride.
3. Lucien- Just the right amount of drunk to make this funny AND short. Read the room, the room is not interested. Tells one funny story about groom, says something nice about the bride and sits the fuck back down.
2. Elain- Created a slide show complete with pictures AND music. Room excited to watch until they realize it is 45 minutes long. Still, it is so nice and bride so excited everyone suffers through montage after montage of baby pictures and school musicals.
Feyre- PREPARED. Came with NOTE cards, planned ahead of time what to say. DOES NOT MENTION COLORADO or that they were EVER anywhere west of the Mississippi (can't let the cops know). Friends with both bride and groom, has a few well-times jokes that hurt no one's feelings and makes the room laugh. Hits all the right emotional notes, perfect choice for a speech.
