Evening Prayer - 23 Feb 2024
It was a day full of errands, God. First a trip to San Jose to line up details for a class I’m teaching next weekend (and now they are). Then a trip to the library to find out that two of the four books I wanted were checked out (they’re not on reserve) and the other two will need to come from other libraries outside of the county (requests made). Then a trip to the auto parts store (because having the dealer replace the head light was going to be crazy expensive), and then a second trip to the auto parts store once the bulb I needed came in. Then 45 minutes in the garage actually changing the bulb (thanks to a YouTube “how to” video and a neighbor who figure out how to not break the plastic doohickey to finish the job).
Other stuff I’d planned to do today? That was a fantasy. Still I’m ending the day feeling grateful and triumphant. I’m grateful for the people in San Jose who are so generous with their hospitality, and I’m grateful that we have a great library system, and I’m grateful for YouTube videos and helpful neighbors. And I’m feeling triumphant because the headlight is repaired! Thanks for all of that, God. Amen.

Oh, Holy Father, creator of everything.
Please put any evil spirits to flight who wish us harm. Let them know they are defeated and never again can they return. Our bodies are a temple where you dwell within our souls. We love you, Father God with all our hearts, with all our minds. We love you Lord God, please protect us from evil so we may continue to serve your most Holy will. Luminous, radiant, angelic hosts, please encircle us three times.
Let my body be a temple where you dwell within my soul, Lord. Bless and keep us this night and always.
Amen.

GROW! continues this Sunday, 2/25/24!
Join us this Sunday evening, February 25, and every second and fourth Sunday of the month, from 5–7pm for worship, fellowship, and learning.
GROW! begins with a short worship service, now the beautiful Evening Prayer service from the 1979 Book of Common Prayer rather than communion, followed immediately by a home cooked dinner and fellowship, then formation for all ages as we keep working through the Being With curriculum developed at St. Martin in the Fields, London.
Come as you are: jeans, sneakers, and grass stained soccer uniforms are welcome!

Evening Prayer
God of love, I offer you this evening hour. My heart is restless until it rests in you, oh source of all consciousness; enlighten my mind as I meditate upon you.
Prayer of Supplication Beneath your compassion we take refuge, O Holy Mother of God. Do not despise our petitions in our time of trouble, but rescue us from all dangers, O glorious and blessed virgin.
Wheel of the Year Prayer
link to wheel of the year prayers
Litany: Regina Iustitiae, Oh Queen of Justice, instruct us. Regina Potentissima, Oh Queen Most Powerful, protect us. Regina Tenebrarum, Oh Queen of Darkness, bring us into your mystery. Regina Pacis, Oh Queen of Peace, comfort us. Regina Stellarum, oh Queen of the Stars, illuminate our paths. Regina Mortuorum, Oh Queen of the Dead, support us underfoot. Regina Caeli, Oh Queen of Heaven, we glorify you and praise your holy name.
Prayer to Jesus:  (prayer of St Francis) Lord Jesus, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy. Oh Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood, as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Closing
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us as we forgive others. Lead us not into separation but deliver us into love.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us now and at the hour of our death.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Child, and to the Holy Mother. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end, Amen.

“Walk in the light, the beautiful light.
Come where the dew drops of mercy shine bright.
Shine all around us by day and by night.
Jesus, the light of the world.”

Evening Prayer - 23 Dec 2023
Holy One, thank you for the wisdom of knowing my own limits (and then the wisdom to follow that wisdom). Thank you for the creative and hard work of people around me, especially Sandy’s. Thank you for a little walk, a beautiful winter rose, and the cool of the season. And thank you for a quiet evening. Amen.

I lie down this night with God,
And God will lie down with me;
I lie down this night with Christ,
And Christ will lie down with me;
I lie down this night with the Spirit,
And the Spirit will lie down with me;
God and Christ and the Spirit
Be lying down with me.
