“It is not that I do not wish to marry,” you explained to the maid that was dealing with your hair. The fine silver comb tugged painfully on your scalp, but you had learned to ignore it through continued practice. “I do like the thought of being the lady of my own estate, and having children and a husband who loves me.”
The maid hummed as she dragged the comb through your hair. “Of course, miss.”
“But why must all the eligible bachelors of the ton be so dreadfully boring? Every conversation feels the same. If you’ve spoken to one of them, you may as well have spoken to them all,” you complained. “They constantly talk about the same subjects and offer the same compliments.”
“What would you like them to say instead, miss?” the maid asked lightly.
“Well, anything that I have not already heard a hundred times before!” you exclaimed as the maid fixed the last pin in your hair and released you. You turned to appraise yourself in the mirror carefully before pouting at your maid. “Daisy, I am not foolish enough to entertain expectations of true love. But is it too much to ask for a husband who will not drive me mad out of boredom? A husband for whom at least a small candle lights up in my heart- never mind a wild and burning flame?”
Daisy smiled. “You will be late, miss. Your family is waiting downstairs.”
“But you offer me no reassurances,” you noted with a frown.
“Do not worry yourself too much, miss. There are plenty of men in London this season that you are  yet to meet. I am certain one of them will light your heart’s candle.”
You thanked her and then stood up to appraise yourself in the mirror. You had chosen one of your prettiest gowns for the first ball of the season and were pleased with the way the soft pastel colours accentuated your figure and skin. You were not the belle of the ball- you would leave titles like that to more perfect women than you- but you were certainly striking enough to never be left wanting for a dance partner or company.
God. All this effort to spend your evening listening to men offer you recycled compliments or boast about their fortunes.
"So her highness finally arrives. I thought perhaps you were waiting for the ball to end," your brother Wonwoo remarked as you walked down to the foyer of your large London home.
You paid him little mind. Wonwoo was not truly angry about the delay. He had no great love for social engagements or balls and suffered through them in the same way you did, albeit with fewer complaints.
"Beauty takes time," you replied simply.
"As does the journey to the Hessington's manor. Mother and Father are waiting for us outside."
"It would not be fashionable to arrive too early," you protested.
Wonwoo simply offered you his arm in silence and you joined your brother in stepping out of your large home and climbing into the lavish carriage that waited on the street outside. Your parents were already seated and your mother smiled when she saw you.
"Oh darling! You look quite lovely in that dress," she told you happily as the carriage slowly began to take your family to your destination. "I should not be surprised if your  father has a queue of men outside his door to offer for your hand this season."
You smiled. "Thank you, mother. I am sure Father knows best."
Your father raised an eyebrow. He appeared bored. "I know nothing. You are perfectly capable of choosing your own husband. Unless you wish to marry a stable boy, you shall hear no sound from me."
Your mother swatted his arm. "Dearest! How can you say such a thing! It is of utmost importance that our dear daughter is married well and happy- and you must do everything you can to ensure this!"
Mr. Jeon chuckled. "I believe these matters require far more womanly expertise than I possess."
Your mother disregarded him and turned back to you. "Now darling, remember. We are in no hurry. This is only your first season and time and money are on our side. Unlike some of the other foolish mothers of the ton, I know that marrying well is far more important than marrying quickly."
You smiled. "Yes, mother."
"There is no need to accept any offers immediately. Do not court anyone straight away. Wait and watch and analyse. You deserve the very best."
You bit your lip and nodded. You had to admit that your mother's confidence in you made you feel better about your prospects. She was right. There was plenty of time. You were not in any rush and you would wait patiently until the right man for you appeared.
Hopefully he would.
"As for you, Wonwoo-" your mother continued, turning to your brother who had been staring out of the window absently. "Although your sister's marriage prospects occupy more of my time and attention than yours, it would be helpful if you at least indulged in a few dances and did not offend all the young ladies that crossed your path by ignoring them or pretending to be absorbed in a book."
Wonwoo flushed. He had been known to hide behind a book in order to avoid the attention of some of the more determined young ladies. Women frequently left your brother's company feeling snubbed.
"Yes, mother," he replied with a sigh.
"I want to see you up on the dance floor for at least two dances," she pressed.
"One," Wonwoo pushed back.
"Two, this is not a discussion."
Wonwoo decided against arguing with his mother and turned his attention back to the window of the carriage as it clattered noisily along the path to the ball. You chuckled- you could not wait to meet a woman who could put a genuine smile on Jeon Wonwoo's face. A difficult task indeed, but certainly not impossible.
The carriage stopped once your family arrived at the Hessington's ball. It was an incredibly grand affair. Being the first ball of the season, it would set the standard for all social events during the upcoming months. You could tell that this would be a glamorous season indeed.
You almost felt nervous.
"Isn't that your friend?" Wonwoo mumbled to you as your family entered the enormous bustling ballroom full of immaculately dressed men and women.
"Miss Jeon!"
You laughed in delight as a young woman in a bright purple dress came over to you and embraced you warmly. It had been many months since you had seen your dear friend Ella Williams.  You wrote to her often but you were no great writer, and letters were not nearly enough to say all that you wished to share.
“Miss Williams! Oh, I am so delighted to see you here! How have you been?” you demanded of your friend.
Ella smiled. “I have been wonderful, as always. It is a pleasure to see you as well, Mr. Jeon!” Ella greeted your brother with a bright smile and a polite curtsey. Wonwoo acknowledged her with a small tilt of his head. Ella was no stranger to your brother’s quiet and unenthusiastic manner- so she merely giggled at him and did not take offence.
“He is upset because he is required to dance twice tonight,” you explained to Ella. “Wonwoo, you might as well ask Ella to dance with you so that half of your promise to mother is fulfilled. Then you need only find one more partner over the course of the evening.”
Ella batted her eyelashes at your brother. “I would not object to a dance with Mr. Jeon.”
You waited patiently while Wonwoo signed Ella’s dance card and then wordlessly disappeared further into the room in order to speak to some of his acquaintances. Ella beamed and turned back to you.
“Well. I shall be the target of much envy when I stand up for a dance with the elusive Mr. Jeon. Oh! But I have so much to tell you, my friend, come with me to the refreshments table and I will show you what I have prepared for us!”
You allowed Ella to take your arm and pull you towards the refreshments. You both found seats on a bench and she pulled a small black diary out of her pocket that she showed you cheerfully.
“Guess what this is?” she asked eagerly, but did not allow you time to formulate a response. “I spent the entire summer doing research and have prepared elaborate notes on every single marriage-minded bachelor that will be in attendance this season. I believe the usual clumsy method of turning up to as many social events as we can and simpering at random men only to be disappointed once we learn more about them cannot go on. We are clever women. We must employ the scientific method.”
You giggled at your friend. “The scientific method? To find a husband?”
“It is almost perfect! And it took me months to compile- I keep adding to it every time I learn more about any of them."
You looked at her book with a laugh. It really was packed full of notes. This was no small feat that Ella had achieved.
"How does this help us?" you asked, confused.
Ella sighed. "My dear friend. Every time a man introduces himself or asks you for a dance, you need only look him up in my little book to know everything about him! Well; perhaps not everything, it is still a work in progress but I am constantly adding to it!"
You looked down at her little book curiously.
"Ella… you may have created something very valuable," you admitted to her slowly. "I am sure many of the young women in the room would love to have a peek at that little book."
Ella beamed. "Yes, but I shall not share it with anyone but you."
"You really are a wonderful friend."
"Of course I am. Now- have you found any dance partners yet for the evening? I am lucky to have started the evening off strong by securing a dance with your brother- it is my turn to find you an equally excellent partner."
You smiled. "I would be very grateful."
But Ella's efforts were not necessary. As you stood, you were approached by your brother and another handsome young man with a very charming smile.
"I believe the dancing is about to begin," Wonwoo said simply as he offered his arm to Ella. He paused to look at you. "Sister, allow me to introduce you to my friend Mr. Kim Mingyu."
Mr. Kim Mingyu took your gloved hand into his own and pressed his lips to your knuckles in a suave manner.
"Miss Jeon. I have heard many wonderful things about you; would you do me the honour of joining me for the next dance?" Mingyu asked.
You smiled. "It would be my pleasure, Mr. Kim."
"Excellent. This way."
Mingyu was a very good dancer and an adequate conversationalist. He did offer you some textbook insincere compliments about your dancing skill and your dress, but since he was good friends with your brother, any lulls in the conversation were filled with stories from the time he and Wonwoo spent together at Oxford. There was something very lighthearted about his words and manner. It left you with the impression that Mr. Kim Mingyu did not take anything very seriously-including his own marriage prospects.
"Thank you very much for the dance, Mr. Kim,” you bowed to him politely as the music came to an end. Mingyu smiled and offered you his arm to lead you away from the dance floor.
“It was a pleasure, Miss Jeon. May I help you find your next partner?” he offered generously. "I know multiple young men who would be delighted to be introduced to you.”
"I would be very grateful, Mr. Kim. But I have already promised Miss Ella Williams that she may be the one to find my next partner and I could not bear to  disappoint her."
Mingyu nodded. "Very well. Your brother is probably seeking a corner to hide himself in for the rest of the evening, so if you find yourself requiring a dance partner at any moment please do not hesitate to send for me."
You laughed. "Indeed. I shall summon you as soon as your services become necessary."
Mingyu left you just as Ella came over to join you on your bench.
"Well, well," your friend teased. "Mr. Kim is certainly very handsome. And he appears to be an excellent dancer."
"Will you tell me what you have written about him in your little book?" you asked.
Ella withdrew the book from the folds of her skirts and took a moment to flip the pages. "Let us see here…. K for Kim… Mingyu…. ah! Here he is!
"Goodness, the page is full!" you laughed as you saw the page crammed to the brim with notes. There was barely any space left. "Is that a list of women he is rumoured to  be courting? Heavens. You shall need to prepare a summary for this man."
"I have one," she replied, her fingers pointing to two underlined words on the top right corner. Notorious rake.
You both exchanged looks and laughed.
"That sounds about right," you giggled before taking her arm. "Now hurry! You promised to find me another dance partner! If we sit on the bench for too long then we might be approached by someone particularly odious."
"Of course!"
Ella grabbed your arm and guided you across the room to a group of men who stood conversing near the balcony. One of them turned and smiled when he saw Ella.
"Ella! I did not know you would be here tonight," he greeted her fondly. He had gentle eyes and a soft smile that put you instantly at ease.
"How could I miss the first ball of the season?" Ella asked. "Joshua, you must allow me to introduce you to my dear friend Miss Jeon. I insist that you dance the next dance with her, for she is so much in demand that you may not have another chance all season! Miss Jeon, this is my cousin Viscount Joshua Hong."
Joshua greeted you warmly. Unlike Mingyu, he made no excessively charming moves to kiss your hand but his impeccable manners put you at ease.
"Of course. It would be an honour to dance with Miss Jeon," he promised you. "But first allow me to make introductions of my own. I am accompanied by my dear friends Mr. Choi Seungcheol and Mr. Yoon Jeonghan."
You curtsied politely to the two men. Mr. Choi was handsome, certainly, but you were struck immediately by how unnaturally perfect Mr. Yoon Jeonghan was. His features were sharp, angular, and he looked like a marble statue sculpted by a skilled artist. Jeonghan had an almost ethereal beauty to him.
And he turned immediately to your friend.
"Miss Williams, may I request your hand for the next dance, if you have not already promised it to another?" Jeonghan asked, as he offered her his hand.
Ella took it without hesitation. "Of course!"
It was no punishment to dance with Viscount Joshua Hong. The man was possibly the most eligible bachelor in the room considering his title, vast fortune and gentlemanly reputation so Ella had done you a great favour. Joshua made light and pleasant conversation as you danced. He was not entirely boring, but also failed to be particularly interesting. You found yourself casting glances across the room at Ella's dance partner.
When your dance with Joshua came to an end, you approached Ella and Jeonghan with the faint hope that you might be chosen as Mr. Yoon Jeonghan's next partner- only to find that the man in question had already left the area.
"What happened to Mr. Yoon?" you asked your friend casually.
"He apologised and had to leave early. Something about his sister- perhaps you know her? Miss Yoon? Fairly pretty woman who is rather well-known for strangely not receiving any offers of marriage since the last many seasons?"
It sounded familiar. "Was he a good dancer?"
"Excellent- but I was terribly nervous throughout the dance, after all, you know what everyone says about him!" Ella said with a shaky laugh.
You did not know. "What does everyone say about him-"
Your question was cut off by the appearance of your mother, who took your arm with a bright smile. “My dear! I can see that you have been quite successful with your dance partners tonight. Not only Mr Kim Mingyu but Viscount Hong as well! Everyone is quite taken with you.”
You smiled at your mother. “Thank you, mother-”
“Come along now. I have many others to introduce you to, we should take advantage of this momentum. You should come as well, Ella. A certain Mr. Lee has been asking about you and you will need someone to make the necessary introductions!”
Ella smiled and took your hand as the two of you followed your mother.
—--------------------------------------------------------------
The Hessington’s ball was, in your mother’s expert opinion, a grand success. You had danced almost every dance with an eligible young man and the general consensus among the ton was that you were a delightful young woman who would likely receive her fair share of attention and gentleman callers.
It was difficult to not want to bask in all the attention.
“Mother! May I go to the assembly rooms with Ella and Mrs. Williams this evening? I believe we have no other engagements,” you reminded her eagerly as she attended to her knitting in the drawing room. Your mother looked up at you.
“Will Mrs. Williams chaperone?”
“Of course.”
Upon receiving her permission you hurried upstairs to dress for an evening at the assembly rooms. You had heard from Ella that Viscount Hong would be in attendance. While you had no specific interest in Joshua  himself, you could not deny that the Viscount was well-connected and always ready and able to make introductions with other eligible young men.
Daisy helped you into a pretty dress. Since an evening at the assembly rooms was not nearly as glamorous as a ball, you kept your attire simple but could not resist finishing off your look with a string of pearls around your neck.
“You look lovely, miss,” Daisy complimented you kindly. “The pearls suit you very well.”
You smiled. “Thank you, Daisy.”
The Williams’ carriage arrived promptly to pick you up, and you travelled to the assembly rooms with Ella and her mother. You were delighted when Mrs. Williams promptly sat down at one of the many card tables and announced her intention to play whist all evening. The older woman appeared to have no plans of following you or Ella about the room, or being an overbearing chaperone.
"I have decided to cast my net upon Mr. Xu Minghao tonight," Ella whispered to you, gesturing to a handsome young man in the corner of the room. "I shall ask Joshua to introduce me. Would you like to come?"
You tilted your head thoughtfully. "I might play some cards first. I have been looking forward to it for a while. Do you think it would be impolite for me to sit down at any of these tables?"
"I see Mrs. Patty there. She will surely welcome you at her card table; although I would be careful. I hear her gambling habit can be… excessive. And she gossips even more than she gambles."
You giggled. "I shall be fine with Mrs. Patty. She likes me. Go on and demonstrate your charms to Mr. Xu."
You were welcomed warmly at the card tables by Mrs. Patty and the other ladies, all of whom complimented your success at the Hessington's ball the previous evening while dealing you into their game. You were not a very experienced card player, but it did not signify. The bets were small at the ladies’ table. On the other hand, the table of gentlemen across from you were clearly playing for much higher stakes.
You had a clear view of the men's card table. A few familiar faces were seated there- including Mr. Kim  Mingyu and Mr. Kwon Soonyoung. The occupant that was of particular interest to you, however, was Mr. Yoon Jeonghan. Jeonghan had leaned back in his seat in a relaxed and careless manner, a handsome smirk on his face as he observed his cards.
Really, he was unfairly attractive. How were you supposed to focus on your cards when a man as perfect as Yoon Jeonghan sat directly in your line of view? It was hardly surprising that you lost the first round of the game with the ladies.
Jeonghan looked up suddenly and his intense gaze met yours. You were a little flustered at having been caught staring, but the corner of his lips curved up in a hint of a smile. Jeonghan acknowledged you with a simple tilt of his head. You forced a polite smile back and quickly turned away.
When you dared to lift your eyes in his direction once more, he had already turned his attention away from you.
“Really Mr. Yoon? Will you continue to win until you bleed us all dry?” you heard Mr. Kim Mingyu demand from the other table. The other men nodded in agreement; it appeared that Mr. Yoon had won almost every hand this evening.
“You are bleeding yourself dry, Mr. Kim. Perhaps you may wish to study the rules of the game before you hand your money to me?” Jeonghan suggested lightly.
“If I play another round with you I shall be in danger of losing my estate.”
There appeared to be a general consensus among the men at table that they had lost enough money to Mr. Yoon for one evening. You watched with interest as they all left the table in search of refreshments and other entertainment. Mr. Yoon lingered at the table a few moments longer to collect his belongings.
It was a rare opening- you waited until your current round ended and took the chance to excuse yourself from the ladies table.
“Pardon me, Mrs. Patty but I think I have had my fill of cards. I will take your leave now,” you said to the older woman who dismissed you easily.
You took a deep breath. Perhaps it was an… audacious move (if not an entirely improper one) for you to approach Mr. Yoon while there was nobody else in your company. But you were quite determined to learn more about this man with the angelic features and confident gaze. You could not simply wait until Jeonghan decided to take note of you- you would bring the conversation to him.
“Mr. Yoon,” you greeted him politely.
Jeonghan turned to you with mild surprise. This was a crowded room, yes, but it was still bold of you to approach him without a female chaperone.
Although to be fair, Yoon Jeonghan had never been one to put too fine a point on the rules of propriety.
“Miss Jeon, if I am not mistaken,” he greeted calmly. He gave no indication that he found you approaching him to be improper. “We were introduced at the Hessington’s ball last evening. I heard from my stepmother that you had excellent success and danced every single dance.”
“I do not know if I was particularly successful at anything; to dance every dance at a ball is not unheard of. But to win almost every hand of cards while playing a game of chance… that is what I would consider success,” you teased him.
It was a bold attempt at flirtation- you could only wait and see what move Jeonghan would make.
Jeonghan folded his arms across his chest. You could tell that he was biting back a smile. “Perhaps my opponents were simply too drunk to remember the rules of the game,” he suggested.
“Or perhaps you have devised a way to eliminate the influence of chance on the game’s outcome entirely.”
Jeonghan could not resist a chuckle. “Miss Jeon. I must protest this line of questioning. It seems to be in danger of impinging upon my honour as a gentleman. I hope you don’t mean to accuse me of cheating at cards?”
“Res ipsa loquitor, as they say in Latin, or- the thing speaks for itself,” you continued to tease him. “Do you deny it?”
“I shall not deny it. Instead, I shall generously grant you the opportunity to withdraw this dangerous allegation you have chosen to make,” he continued, “for I am confident that you possess no evidence to support your claim. Please- have a seat. It would not do for you to remain standing while we debate my alleged crimes.”
You allowed Jeonghan to pull out a chair for you and he expertly moved behind you to push it back in before taking his own seat. You folded your hands in your lap and smiled at him. You were enjoying this conversation.
“Your words are clever Mr. Yoon, but they do not cry innocence,” you insisted.
“I am not claiming to be innocent.”
“Then you admit you are guilty?”
“I shall not answer your allegation either way,” Jeonghan replied with a chuckle. “But I am concerned for the impact your allegations shall have on your honour when you find yourself unable to justify them with sufficient evidence.”
You laughed. “So you are greatly concerned for my honour, are you, Mr. Yoon?”
“I would be concerned for the honour of any young lady in your position.”
“Then how do you suggest we resolve this? For I find it impossible to believe that you should have been able to win so many rounds of a game of chance without having found some manner of tilting the scales of luck in your favour,” you insisted.
Jeonghan leaned closer to you suddenly. His dark eyes boldly met yours and your senses were instantly overwhelmed by him. His clean scent, the sound of his soft breathing and his handsome face hovering a few inches from your own. Jeonghan’s voice (suddenly low) sent a pleasurable shiver down your spine.
“If you do not withdraw your allegation,” he whispered. “I shall have no choice but to demand satisfaction.”
Oh. This man was dangerous.
He pulled back and you felt a rush of adrenaline. Noone had ever flirted with you quite like this before- and it was, clearly and undoubtedly a delightfully dangerous flirtation, for what man would innocently lean so close and whisper such words in the presence of a lady unless he meant to be unequivocal about his nefarious intention?
It appeared you had walked into the lion’s den of your own free will.
“Satisfaction?” you asked him, trying not to reveal how flustered you were.  “I hope you do not intend to challenge a lady to a duel, Mr. Yoon.”
“A duel? No, not at all. I can think of better ways for you to restore my honour.”
“I have no intention of restoring your honour,” you replied boldly.
“Perhaps I shall be able to persuade you otherwise. Tell me Miss Yoon- have you recently lost anything? Perhaps a valuable item that you carry upon your person?” Jeonghan asked in a knowing tone.
Your eyebrows furrowed in confusion. You had not carried much with you and you quickly checked that you still possessed your handkerchief and reticule. As you turned your head, however, you realised that there was a strange lightness around your neck.
Your hand flew up to your bare neck.
“My pearls!”
Jeonghan smirked. His arm moved subtly across the table and you caught a glimpse of something white and shiny clasped in his hand just before he tucked it into the breast pocket of his coat. You stared at him in shock and disbelief.
“Mr. Yoon- have you just stolen my pearls?” you demanded in a hushed tone.
Jeonghan looked pleased with himself.
“Not to worry, my lady. I have every intention of returning them to you tomorrow, at the Hongs’ ball- where you shall do me the honour of dancing the final dance of the evening with me. An act which will, I believe, be adequate recompense for the baseless accusations you have brought upon my honour.”
You looked up at him with a smile.
So it was to be a game.
“You don’t play fair, Mr. Yoon,” you remarked.
“Remind me to further discuss the merits of fairness during our dance at tomorrow’s ball,” Jeonghan suggested as he stood from his seat and reached for your hand. He pressed his lips against your knuckles- softly, tantalisingly, and perhaps lingering for half a second longer than appropriate before giving you a roguish smile. “Have a pleasant evening, Miss Jeon.”
You watched as he walked away to join his companions at the refreshment tables. Your heartbeat thumped with excitement while the adrenaline from your unbelievably shocking encounter with Mr. Yoon Jeonghan slowly ebbed.
Well, you thought to yourself. Mr. Yoon Jeonghan had certainly lit your heart’s candle.
Indeed, he seemed quite in danger of tipping it over and setting the entire bloody place on fire.

A/N: Thanks to everyone who showed so much love for my first fic Patience, and also thank you for reading Candle! Jeonghan was such a crucial character in Patience that it was always my intention to write a companion fic for him.
I should be able to upload the next part of Candle in a few days, if all goes well. I'm also in the process of plotting for Wonwoo, Mingyu and Hoshi, in no particular order.
Any feedback is welcome! I'm not sensitive lol.

“The perfect son that has the weight of having to embody an impossible ideal on his shoulders.” Where does he have this conflict? We have no proof of him being affected by Tywin. All he cared about was Cersei so he gave it all up for Cersei.
My father. Jaime wondered whether Lord Tywin had received the goat’s demand for ransom, with or without his rotted hand. What is a swordsman worth without his sword hand? Half the gold in Casterly Rock? Three hundred dragons? Or nothing? His father had never been unduly swayed by sentiment.
Those who were there at court during this time have recounted that Aerys's behavior was erratic. He was untrusting of any save his Kingsguard-and then only imperfectly, for he kept Ser Jaime Lannister close at all hours to serve as a hostage against his father.
“but my father’s forces reached the city first. Pycelle convinced the king that his Warden of the West had come to defend him, so he opened the gates. The one time he should have heeded Varys, and he ignored him. My father had held back from the war, brooding on all the wrongs Aerys had done him and determined that House Lannister should be on the winning side. The Trident decided him.”
“You cannot eat love, nor buy a horse with it, nor warm your halls on a cold night,” she heard him tell Jaime once, when her brother had been no older than Tommen.
Naked and alone he stood, surrounded by enemies, with stone walls all around him pressing close. The Rock, he knew. He could feel the immense weight of it above his head. He was home.
“What place is this?” “Your place.” The voice echoed; it was a hundred voices, a thousand, the voices of all the Lannisters since Lann the Clever, who’d lived at the dawn of days. But most of all it was his father’s voice, and beside Lord Tywin stood his sister, pale and beautiful, a torch burning in her hand. Joffrey was there as well, the son they’d made together, and behind them a dozen more dark shapes with golden hair.”
“Sister, why has Father brought us here?”
“Us? This is your place, Brother. This is your darkness.” Her torch was the only light in the cavern. Her torch was the only light in the world. She turned to go.
“Stay with me,” Jaime pleaded. “Don’t leave me here alone.” But they were leaving. “Don’t leave me in the dark!”
But Tywin Lannister endured, eternal as Casterly Rock. And now you have a cripple for a son as well as a dwarf, my lord. How you will hate that…
“Jaime,” Lord Tywin said, as if they’d last seen each other at breakfast. “Lord Bolton led me to expect you earlier. I had hoped you’d be here for the wedding.”
“I was delayed.” Jaime closed the door softly.
“Lord Tywin pushed himself out of his chair, breath hissing between his teeth. “Who did this? If Lady Catelyn thinks—” […] Lord Tywin looked away, disgusted.
“They have taken off his hands and feet, but Clegane seems amused by the way the Qohorik slobbers.”
Jaime’s smile curdled. “What about his Brave Companions?”
“The few who stayed at Harrenhal are dead. The others scattered. They’ll make for ports, I’ll warrant, or try and lose themselves in the woods.” His eyes went back to Jaime’s stump, and his mouth grew taut with fury. “We’ll have their heads. Every one. Can you use a sword with your left hand?”
“The king’s justice will be done.”
The king’s justice. “You would execute your own son?”
“You do.” Lord Tywin rose as well. “A duty to House Lannister. You are the heir to Casterly Rock. That is where you should be.”
“NO!” Jaime had heard all that he could stand. No, more than he could stand. He was sick of it, sick of lords and lies, sick of his father, his sister, sick of the whole bloody business. “No. No. No. No. No. How many times must I say no before you’ll hear it?”
Firelight gleamed golden in the stiff whiskers that framed Lord Tywin’s face. A vein pulsed in his neck, but he did not speak. And did not speak. And did not speak. The strained silence went on until it was more than Jaime could endure. “Father…” he began.
“You are not my son.” Lord Tywin turned his face away.
“No man can stand a vigil for seven days and seven nights,” Ser Balon said. “When did you last sleep, my lord?”
“When my lord father was alive,” said Jaime.
“Allow me to stand tonight in your stead,” Ser Loras offered.
“He was not your father.” You did not kill him. I did.
Father, give her strength. Almost a prayer . . . but was it the god he was invoking, the Father Above whose towering gilded likeness glimmered in the candlelight across the sept? Or was he praying to the corpse that lay before him? Does it matter? They never listened, either one.
“Father,” he told the corpse, “it was you who told me that tears were a mark of weakness in a man, so you cannot expect that I should cry for you.
Jaime looked to make certain Lord Tywin was not rising from his bier in wrath, but his father lay still and cold, rotting.
“We all dream of things we cannot have. Tywin dreamed that his son would be a great knight, that his daughter would be a queen. He dreamed they would be so strong and brave and beautiful that no one would ever laugh at them.”
“I am a knight,” he told her, “and Cersei is a queen.”
A tear rolled down her cheek. The woman raised her hood again and turned her back on him. Jaime called after her, but already she was moving away, her skirt whispering lullabies as it brushed across the floor. Don’t leave me, he wanted to call, but of course she’d left them long ago. He woke in darkness, shivering. The room had grown cold as ice.
this is so silly. being the favorite child of an abusive parent is also not a good thing to be. jaime had been playing the role of mediator since he was a child between all three of his only loved ones, who we know he has a deep rooted fear of being abandoned to isolation by, while having to balance what he believed was entirely conditional love. tywin never once viewed him as someone with real autonomy either. as heir, he was shaped by and fed tywin’s messaging the most directly. there is a reason the “love speech” was just overheard by and not directed at cersei. and he was always just a vessel for tywin to project his ideal legacy onto. he is primarily a tool for tywin. he is pissed when jaime is maimed not out of concern but because his perfect vessel was made imperfect. jaime is an extension of tywin. his extreme punitive justice, that sours jaime, is rooted in that too. it is more about appearances than about love. he was meant to embody a standard from birth that is not even real lol. jaime had experienced tywin’s favor hence he has a drastically different relationship to desiring it in any shape or form than his siblings, who are put aside or outright despised, do. this is why his emulation is rooted in some very different things. george wrote how these different children were affected and shaped in different ways — while also highlighting their differences, personal agency, and accountability — by an abusive patriarch, that embodies most of this series’s anti-themes, because it makes them unique characters. he can explore different things with them instead of having the same exact narrative three times. the parallels and juxtaposition enriches the other dynamics rather than diminishing them.

Please some snape x wife reader. When another girl start flirt with him infront of his wife and she’s is like: hello I am right here you dumb bitch. Thank you so much. I love your blog ❤️
//aaaa thank you!! <3 This one's a little shorter, but I hope you enjoy it! there's like one or two suggestive comments in there but nothing too bad!//
What started as a normal grocery run turned out to be a frustrating day out for you. A woman in the grocery store apparently found herself unable to keep to herself and decided to continuously “bump” into both you and Severus as you tried to just grab the needed food and run back home for a quiet evening. At first you tried to keep you wits about you, trying to block out the woman’s incessant talking and desperately trying to ignore the flirtatious undertones in her voice. With a huff, you continued to pick out food until you heard the woman say, “Well, though you’re not much of a talker…How about when you finish up with your sister, I can keep you company for the night?” You snapped your head towards her and got in-between the woman and Severus.
“I will have you know, ma’am, that this fine man right here happens to be my husband! Now, seeing as you’ve been continuously following us through this store and delaying our day together, it would be best for you to either make your way back to your own spouse before I start something you really don’t want to finish.” The woman stuttered out pathetic excuses, clearly not expecting to be both humiliated and called out in the middle of the produce aisles.  You sneered at the woman, a habit you must’ve picked up from Severus over the years, and glared her down. “You really thought I didn’t notice that little gold wedding band on your finger? You must be some kind of wife if you keep running around town trying to take other women’s husbands. Now kindly piss off and let us be in peace!” With a huff, you took Severus’s hand in your own and went to the next aisle over, silently fuming while Severus observed you with a glint in his eyes.
Seeing as no one was around, Severus quickly waved necessary items into the trolly and pulled you in for an embrace. Whispering in your ear, he said, “Love, let’s just pay for what we have and get home, yeah? I can have Albus send us a care package this month. I think we’ve had enough of an adventure today.” You hesitated a second before nodding in agreement, face flushing when you felt Severus place his hand on the small of your back to both guide you and comfort you, at least you suspected as much.
The journey home was fairly quiet, but not uncomfortably so. Severus kept his hand intertwined with you, grocery bags discreetly shrunk down and stored safely in your purse. The closer you got to home, the more you felt embarrassed at your outburst in the grocery store. ‘I must’ve seemed pretty childish…but I thought she deserved it…Maybe I let jealousy cloud my mind a bit too much…’ Severus hid a fond smile and whispered loud enough for you to hear, “Well, you are right. She did deserve what you gave to her. Foolish woman clearly must be blind or a moron to do what she was doing.” You whipped around and pouted. “Sev!” Severus smiled and leaned down, pressing a soft kiss to your cheek. “Sorry, love. Don’t get down on yourself. If anything, you caught my attention with that little show.” The way he said that sounded more flirtatious in your humble opinion. “You’ll be the death of me, Severus, I swear.” And you pulled him down into a kiss. “Don’t worry, I’ll make sure to show my appreciation for you much more thoroughly when get home.” Yup, he’s definitely going to be the death of you.

i was seeing that s3 of the bee show will be probably delayed for next year and the only thing that bothers me is that we will have to wait 2 years for happy kanthony when the development of their relationship should've been done in s2!!! just like it happened in s1 where the love story was wrapped at the end... i hate how people kept saying that it didn't matter that they didn't have many minutes of happiness in their own season because they were gonna be back... BUT TWO YEARS LATER!
Uh anon sorry for the long reply but you opened a Pandora box so this is going to be a rant post.
I still laugh at those interviews where everyone and their mothers were patting themselves on the back about how different Kanthony season was, how it was all about emotional intimacy rather than actual intimacy, and the beauty of their slow burn. Isn’t slow burn supposed to have a payoff? Kanthony got none of that. I still can’t believe they made us go through a disgusting love triangle between two sisters just for them to put Kate in a coma for the majority of the last ep and for Kanthony to get together in two quick scenes in the last 8 minutes of the season.
Choices were made. And it cannot be a coincidence when you think about how promoted Kanthony was. They didn’t even have a poster with only two of them before people loudly complained. And that poster? Imagine having the romantic focal point of you romance show standing back to back like two buddies from a cop movie.
It’s funny how the “this is a show regarding a family” was dropped pretty quick after Jess announced next season was going to be Polin’s. How the tables turned with the “we’re going to have romance back, the show is going to be horny again with plenty of sex scenes and a lot of quotes from the book”. Not suspicious at all. Especially when, surprise surprise, a year later Queen Charlotte came out and Bridgeton behaved like Bridgeton again, with romance, promotion of the lead couple ALONG the promotion of the other female lead of the show ( since people like to accuse us Kanthony fans of being butthurt cause they promoted CC a lot) and lots of sex scenes. I mean even the Queen servant had a cute love story with tender moments and a proper sex scene. All Kanthony got was a badly done and edited montage of Anthony giving head to Kate in the dark. Ok. Oh and no wedding, not even a quick scene of them exchanging their wows surrounded by family, It didn’t even need to be long, just something to show the difference between that sham of a wedding the queen wanted for Anthony to what Anthony actually wanted with the love of his life.
I also laugh out loud at those gaslighters who say we can shut up about all this cause they’re going to be back. I mean there are also kanthony fans who say this. Let me reassure you they’re not going to repair what they did. They’re not going to give Kate the backstory she was due in her season. Their time was supposed to be two years ago. All we can expect from Kanthony from s3 is a couple of family scenes and Anthony being away most of the time. Maybe Kate with Francesca. The actor was away for most of the shooting and even if this wasn’t the case there’s no way in hell they would give us something cause they went out of their way to give us NOTHING in 2022.
In conclusion if it‘s true this damn show is going to come out god knows when next year I’m only unhappy cause I want Simone to get out asap and not because of Kanthony, we’re not going to get much of them anyway. I’m not even sure they’re going to give us Edmund. I bet they’re going to give us the same answer we got regarding why they couldn’t show two weddings in s2..”this is Polin’s time, we’re already going to show their kids there is no reason to show Kanthony’s as well”. Bet.

i'm once again dipping my toes in "wait am i weird or are people weird" because i never really got the idea that jgy and qs's incest in cql was much different, esp in the degree of willingness, than in the novel. like yeah i guess there is the scene where he lifts her veil and dramatically throws it away, which, okay, thank you for the subtle visual, thank you, but
the "i didn't know who to hate more, myself for being paranoid or my father for being a monster" line is still there.
in the novel, while not a spoken line but rather the narrator supplying his thoughts, it appears after jgy confesses that they slept together to make sure they would get married without any troubles or delays.
in cql, jgy says it directly after lxc asks him why he slept with her if he knew they were siblings. this line is jgy's way of answering the question.
i feel like it's yet another instance of the "it only makes sense if you have info from the novel, on its cql own it's confusing at best and nonsensical at worst" problem cql has. They Were Already Married! so what would jgy be paranoid about? sure, people would gossip about why he and qs have no children, but look me in the face and tell me there were no rumors about jgy's sex life already. last but not least, if novel jgy didn't touch her after the wedding, clearly it was possible for cql jgy to do it too.
of course, "i knew my sister was my sister but i had sex with her because i felt i had to" is even more miserable and fucked up than what happened in the novel canon, sure! it would be lovely and painful to expand upon in a fic, i'd love to read one. but it's Very difficult for me to try and make sense of things that i know v well don't make sense/were shabbily done. "close your eyes and overwrite this scene with its novel equivalent" team here.
of course i know people who accuse jgy of shit he didn't do tend to black out when characters other than the wgxns are on the screen, so expecting them to have thoughts about one line said by the, gasp, despicable villain, is a very pretty but ultimately futile dream, but. still.

Spring 1 recap.
previous - next - next season
All households:
Aria and James Sapphire
Alexander Sapphire and Serenity Edmondson
Kellen and Chelsea Lambert, Ericka and Storm Martinez, Matthew Lambert and Liam Martinez
Jay, Sydney and Graham Lambert, Melody, Nasir, Cornelius and Ezequiel Akana
Yolanda, Milton, Sienna and Leïla Stafford
Arthur, Jillian, Mila and Sara Sapphire
With the spring breeze came its lot of drama to the different descendants of Marina Sapphire. Among Dahlia Lambert's grandchildren, talks of babies and marriages animated the family dinners, accompanying this urge for most to move out of their parents' home. Most felt ready to deploy their wings albeit still hesitant to discover what it was like out there to pursue their own dreams. For Alfonso Lambert's descendants, it was time to gather together again after the move of the Stafford to Newcrest. They are all happily spending more time together and are still on their journey of self-discovery as they navigate through their teenage years.
Though family gossip started with the unexpected pregnancy of Melody Lambert and the obvious question of "who is the father?", all mouths were shut when she married the father of her twins, Nasir. Though for once the spotlight was on Melody, she hated it and only wanted it to stop - or not happen. Being a mother when she did not want it, and even worse, of twins, was hard on her. She was struggling with motherhood and could only stay afloat thanks to Nasir who turned out to be a very reliable parent. In the shadows, Graham was preparing his departure for university. After all, he had delayed his move until his sister would give birth and then after her wedding. To be frank, he was just trying to buy more time. He was scared of leaving his home, this cocoon of love and attention he always knew. But it was time for him to leave his parents' house and go on his own adventures. Once before a united pair, the twins said goodbye to one another, sure to miss the other half. Graham is not the only one who knew it was time to bid farewell to their childhood home. Ericka felt her stay at her parents' house had been too long already. She was torn between helping Kellen and Chelsea who are still taking care of her brother Matthew despite their old age and the need to have her own place to call home with Storm. After all, the bedroom they share with baby Liam has really turned too small. In the end, the needs of a new place for this family prompted the departure of Kellen's cousin and also neighbor Yolanda Stafford from San Sequoia. With her family, they decided to go back to Newcrest, in her childhood home, while vacating the house they have in San Sequoia and selling it to Storm and Ericka. With another move, Leïla Stafford, the youngest of the two Stafford siblings, was happy to get closer to her cousins but was hoping it would not put a strain on her budding relationship with Mitchel Tilo. Completely lovestruck, by the end of the season they had already vowed to stay with one another. Only time will tell if this will stay a teenage dream... Meanwhile, Sienna was continuing to work hard as a tennis athlete but her heart was elsewhere. She tried to gather courage and finally announced to her parents her intentions to pursue acting. Though not met with disapproval, Sienna knew that her father was not supportive of her entrance in the show business - at least not like her mother seemed to be. This reaction was quite similar to Aria Sapphire's reaction to the news of her second son getting engaged. While she had previously been eager for Arthur to get married and found a family, she had no such expectations for her youngest. Hence at Melody's wedding reception, she had a lukewarm reaction to Alexander's announcement. She was supportive, of course she was, it was great news, but she never met Serenity and couldn't quite grasp the seriousness of Alexander's intentions. Alexander himself must be confused and did retained some information about his rocky relationship with Serenity when telling about his engagement. After all, the first time he had proposed to Serenity was a disaster. She had refused, they put their relationship on pause, she went on a solo vacation for a week and came back saying yes. But even without that piece of information, Arthur quickly came to know how terrible of an idea this engagement was. When coming to Chestnut Ridge to help with wedding preparations, he observed himself how horrible their relationship was - if we could even call it a relationship, seeing how much they argue and only agree to disagree. But between the loose ties he had in Chestnut Ridge and his own children to take care of, he did not take enough time to convince his brother to put an end to this wedding. Will the summer wedding be stopped by Aria and James when they meet Serenity?

The Way I Feel When I'm in Your Hands
If all mistakes had such a happy resolution, Mr Darcy could not help but muse, one could scarcely be expected to contain himself. He was only thankful that that was not the way of all gentlemen, for his sister’s sake, if nothing else.
A Pride and Prejudice ficlet. Darcy/Elizabeth. Sequel to On the Other Side from You.
For all that Bingley and Miss Bennet had repeatedly offered to move the date of the wedding so that the Darcys might be able to attend, Elizabeth had steadfastly refused to cause any more delay to her beloved sister’s happiness; by the time the ceremony took place, Mrs Darcy was well into her confinement, and although she did try to persuade her husband that she would manage on her own, should he wish to stand up with his friend, he would not be removed from her side at such a time as this for anything in the world.
Mr Darcy had taken up to reading to his wife to alleviate her boredom, for she had been growing more and more restless as her time approached; he knew she wished for her sister to be there for her, and had resolved to send word to Bingley, enquiring whether it would be too much of an inconvenience for the new couple to make a detour for Derbyshire on their way back from their wedding trip. And so it was that, just as Mrs Reynolds welcomed Mr and Mrs Bingley to Pemberley, the family physician as well as the most experienced midwife in Lambton were sent for, and seventeen gruesome hours later, Anne Jane Darcy was finally placed into her exhausted mother’s arms.
“She has your hair, and your eyes, I think,” Elizabeth murmured in wonder, her voice still hoarse for all the screaming. Quite shaken with the ordeal he had seen his wife go through to be delivered of their daughter – for not even Mrs Bingley had been able to dissuade her from demanding her husband’s presence in the birthing room, and in all truth, he’d had half a mind to force his way in regardless, propriety be damned – Mr Darcy privately considered that there might be some merit to her previous resolve to deny him any further marital intimacies, though how they were to go about it now that she had come to reciprocate his feelings at last, he honestly had no clue.
They were still to properly lie together as man and wife, but for all that it was his secret shame and entirely unworthy of the gentleman he wished himself to be perceived as, he could not but cherish the memory of their heated encounter in the rain, not least because it had led them here, granting them the precious gift that was their little daughter, the most perfect babe he had ever had the fortune of laying his eyes upon. He was more than half in love with the child already, and he expected to grow more so with each passing day; his heart soared in his chest when he was finally allowed to hold her, as he remembered very well doing with his newborn sister, all those years prior.
“Well, she has your nose, thank heavens, and your mouth, too,” he smiled tenderly in response to her fond gaze, and shifted the infant into the crook of his arm so that he might lean down to press an affectionate kiss on top of her head.
“I fear your family will be most disappointed in my failure to provide you with an heir, and that in addition to my previous offence of trapping you into a marriage so far beneath you none of them could ever bring themselves to countenance.”
“Nonsense,” he stated with perfect conviction, cradling the sleeping babe to his chest. “I will have none of them speak a word against my daughter, or you, for that matter. And besides, I hold my own share of their joint disapproval, as they could all scarcely believe I would be so imprudent as to get a gentleman’s daughter with child, rather than employing what they deem a less indiscreet way to deal with my baser urges,” he concluded, distaste more than a little apparent in his tone.
“Well, I feel sorry that your urges have so long been left unattended, Sir,” Elizabeth laughed so heartily that he momentarily feared for her health, as the doctor had been most firm in his instructions that she required complete rest for at least a week, and that she should be spared from any form of exertion in her current state.
“Not so entirely unattended,” he blushed quite red in spite of himself, as he recalled the all too welcome attentions she had insisted on bestowing upon him not two days prior. How he had not thought about it that day at Rosings, rather than allowing himself to get so overcome with his feelings as to take her fully, and in such a public place at that, it was beyond him; even now, he was momentarily overcome with the memory of how she had looked in that moment, her hair and dress irretrievably ruined by the rain, yet still more beautiful than ever in her righteous anger.
“Oh, I am confident I could do much better, once I am recovered,” his wife teased him, knowing full well the effect she was having upon him. “Unfortunately, this little one here has worn me out quite thoroughly, and I expect she shall only get more demanding with time.”
“As it is only her right,” he concluded, handing their precious daughter back into her mother’s tender care. “You must rest now, if you can, wife. For my part, I am, as ever, entirely at your service, and therefore entreat you not to hesitate to ask for anything you might require.”
“Thank you, husband,” Elizabeth smiled back with such an ease he had never once dared to hope for in those bleak months at the beginning of their marriage. He felt compelled to lean down so that he might press one more kiss to her waiting forehead, and then brush his lips very carefully to the soft hair covering the child’s head. Their daughter stirred in her sleep, but only just, settling back against her mother’s breast with a contented sigh.
If all mistakes had such a happy resolution, Mr Darcy could not help but muse, one could scarcely be expected to contain himself. He was only thankful that that was not the way of all gentlemen, for his sister’s sake, if nothing else.
.
Truth be told, no one was as surprised as Mr Darcy to be subjected to a renewal of his wife’s attentions no later than two days after her churching. Not, he stated most emphatically to himself, that he was about to complain; as far as he was concerned, enough time had elapsed for the horrors of childbirth to be no longer as prominent to his mind as to prevent him from acting on his own desires. And desire her he did, as he laid her down on his bed and proceeded in such a manner as proved to be most agreeable to both parties – much more so than the hurried moment they had once shared with most of their clothes still in place, though soaked through by the inclement weather.
“Oh”, Elizabeth sighed when they were done, dazed and happy and fairly flushed all over. “I did not know it could be like this, or I might have considered accepting you after all.”
“Was it so very unpleasant for you?” he enquired immediately, worried that he might have been entirely mistaken in his belief that she had, at least, consented to the act with nearly as much enthusiasm as he himself had experienced.
“I would not call it unpleasant, and I hear that a certain amount of, well, discomfort is only to be expected, when a woman first lies with a man. Not that we did anything much in the way of lying, if I recall correctly.”
Even after what they had just done, Mr Darcy could not help but colour slightly at the particulars of their intimacies being addressed so frankly. “I shall never hear the end of it, shall I? But I feel it incumbent upon me to inform you, Madam, that the nature of my injury would very much prevent me from attempting anything of that persuasion in the future – whether to your relief or to your secret regret, I would leave for you to decide.”
He would not, could not admit to her how much of his pride it had cost him to accept that his knee would never fully heal, and he would therefore be somewhat limited in his physical exertions for the rest of his life. It was no small consolation that he had at least managed to acquit himself creditably as far as his marital duties were concerned, and he very much hoped he would be able to keep up with their daughter, once she was old enough to roam the grounds of the estate like he’d once done as a child.
“Fitzwilliam,” she began, clearly distressed by this mention of his accident. He knew she still had nightmares on occasion, yet he could not help but selfishly rejoice that she had come to care for him enough for such occurrences to take place. How such an unworthy lout as himself deserved the creature still nestled in his arms, he could scarcely fathom.
“Hush, it is no matter. My only regret is that I could not have fallen from my horse on the way to Rosings, sparing you the fate that I unwittingly placed upon you.”
Elizabeth swatted his arm with more force than he would have given her credit for. “Don’t you dare! I may have been all too reluctant to enter this marriage, but I’ll have you know I would not have it any other way now, and I could not bear for you to imply any regrets as to the events that led to the creation of our daughter.”
“If there is one thing I could never come to regret, that is our Anne,” he spoke very seriously, holding her gaze for a long moment. “I have loved her from the very moment I learned of her existence, and that was before I had any hope for the two of us to ever come to a semblance of companionship in what was expected of us as a direct consequence of our actions.”
He reached to swipe away the tears that seemed to have come to her quite unexpectedly. “Motherhood has made me quite emotional, I find,” she said in jest, offering him a tremulous smile for his trouble. “Should this state of affairs persist much longer, I fear I shall turn into my own mother, and then I shall feel sorry for you indeed, Sir.”
“You may consider you need not worry about finding a suitable husband for any of our daughters, something which will put considerably less strain on your nerves, I should hope.”
“Ah, but what if one of them were to lose her reputation to some haughty gentleman who then refused to do his duty by her?”
“If that were ever to happen, I shall make the wretch regret the very day he was born,” he declared with the utmost finality, holding her closer and pressing an ardent kiss to her brow.
.
Mr and Mrs Bingley’s next letter brought the hint of some happy news of their own, though it was still too early to tell, and they did not wish for Mrs Bennet to be informed until they were certain. It also related news that had reached Meryton of a scandal pertaining a member of the local militia the Darcys were only too well acquainted with – none other than Mr Wickham, whose whereabouts were currently unknown as he had fled Brighton in a hurry after conducting himself most improperly with a baronet’s daughter, leaving the poor girl to be disowned by her family as the nature of her condition could no longer be concealed from the world.
As could be imagined, Mr Bennet could only congratulate himself on his decision to forbid Lydia from going to Brighton, as he could no longer be persuaded to trust on the discretion of any of his remaining daughters, after his Lizzy had gone and made such a spectacle of herself when he had always considered her the sensible one. Mrs Bennet, on her part, had declared that she had always known there was something not quite right about Mr Wickham, and that she had never quite liked him in the first place.
After giving it quite some thought, and pausing only to consult his sister’s delicate sensibilities regarding the matter, Mr Darcy undertook the long journey to Brighton with his wife’s blessing, bringing back the unfortunate girl whom he then placed under the care of a most respectable widow of his acquaintance, as well as ensuring that both she and the child she was carrying would be well provided for in the future.
“That was most generous of you, husband,” Elizabeth complimented him as soon as it was just the two of them – three, if you counted the little one she was nursing, but she was far too young to understand anything of which they were speaking. Georgiana had chosen to retire early, much overwhelmed with grief for ever entertaining any hope on the scoundrel, as well as with pity for the poor girl’s plight. “But I should hope you are not planning to hold yourself accountable for all of Mr Wickham’s misdemeanours henceforth.”
“I suppose, in a way, I see it as penance for my own misdemeanours also,” came his hushed confession, though he had not come prepared to admit to it. “No young woman should be made to suffer through the scandal by herself, while there’s very little to prevent the gentleman from walking away as if nothing had happened.”
“It could have been much worse,” his wife sighed, adjusting their daughter so that he might slip his arm around her more comfortably. “They could have forced him to marry her – can you imagine?”
“I would not wish on any gentlewoman to find herself tied to Wickham in such a way,” Mr Darcy shuddered, tightening his hold on her. “No woman at all, for that matter. But I shall endeavour to see the poor thing married respectably, if she so wishes; and even then, only if we can find a suitable husband for her, one willing to be a proper father to her child.”
With that, they both fell silent, their gazes resting as one upon the perfect miracle they had contributed to creating. But Anne had fallen asleep at last, and was blissfully unaware of the depths of her parents’ love for her; just as she was of her fortuitous role in uniting them in a most abiding manner, all of that before she had even been born.

9-1-1 6x01 review - don’t read if you haven’t watched.
Okay, so it took me quite a while to walk through everything I wanted to say about last night’s episode, and tbh I’m not even halfway there lol so there will be mini metas to come after this long ass one.
I will start with Maddie and Chimney, and finish with Buddie.
Maddie and Chimeny:
I have to say that them making steps to getting back together is absolutely amazing, I was so happy the writers didn’t make us wait for half a season before making this right.
And baby Jee!! My first reaction to seeing her for the first time this season was to coo very loudly, (I had to go back to hear what was said lol) She is so sweet! And so smart, her connecting Maddie to the suitcases and leaving at the end of the episode had me in tears. She is way to young to have to deal with abandonment issues.
I do not for one second blame Maddie, but even unintentionally Maddie’s constant fugitive state created fissures first in Buck - then in both Chimney and Jee-Yan.
We can see Maddie arrive at that conclusion when she guides a kid who couldn’t find his brother in their own house, and while talking to the kid she - 1. understood why Chimney felt compelled to leave that morning and 2. help the kid find his baby brother, she is a big sister herself, by knowing her dynamics with Buck, she helped him find his own younger brother. (deeper siblings review is in the making)
Those realizations from the call helped her to reassure Chimney that she’s here to stay. And she want them to be a family.
Now Chimney lol when he’s with Maddie, I love him! He’s turning into this big lump of softie, we know he loves her, we know he would have stayed with her that morning if he knew she was there to stay.
He says: “I had a one night stand with my ex, I don’t know what the rules are.”
That statement alone meant that Chimney felt that last night’s was not something he could trust, he didn’t think Maddie would want to stay, he was terrified and, in Bobby’s words - Fled his own apartment lol
Bobby and Eddie, being the amusing voices of reason:
“You didn’t skip the morning after conversation, you just delayed it.” Bobby did indeed have a point.
Eddie, knowing from his experience with Shannon and her showing up at the station in Merry-ExMas, elaborates - “You added a whole new complicated layer.” He looks a complicated mess of amused, supportive and in roast mode all at the same time, I love S6 Eddie more than ever. (more gushing later.)
I am happy to have Madney with baby Jee back together under the same roof and heading forward together, I wonder if we’re heading for a Madney wedding this season 👀🙏
***
Bathena getting ready for the cruise cracked me up! Bobby with the shirts and the ship’s itinerary and travel schedule (Buck and his clipboard anyone?😂) and Athena being exasperated and really all she wants to do is go away and have fun with her husband, rest and enjoy themselves.
I loved May roasting Bobby about the Hawaiian shirts lol was very reminiscent of Christopher roasting Buck in the beginning of the episode. (more on that later)
One awesome thing that I’ve got to point out - Athena and Hen lunch date, that is something we haven’t seen in a long time, I’ve missed those two together!!
That brings me to the whole interim captain thing, I want to know which writer I’m going to slap for giving us cringingly awkward Buck in this episode?? One scene maybe two along with the talk Buck had with the Diaz boys was acceptable funny even. But to revert him all the way back to the first seasons, was uncalled for and made me look away for most of the awkward Buck scenes.
Hen, bless her, was the only one who saw fit to put Buck out of his misery, (tbh I thought for sure she’ll kill Buck for touching her ambulance lol) and went to Bobby to tell him to out his big boy pants and choose an interim captain so Buck can stop bending over backwards trying to prove himself.
Which btw was something I expected Bobby, at this point of the show, to know what is going on, instead all we get is “Ah so that’s what he’s been doing.”
I mean, duh! If I could see it, so should his captain 🤦‍♂️
Now I’ll pause to say, and it may anger some people, that I don’t think Buck is ready to be captain.  I’ve been watching several firefighters shows and to this day I cannot grasp the rules of the LAFD, I mean I figured Chimney with the most seniority, probably already a lieutenant is indeed the most logical next in line - seeing from 2x17 and 2x18 that captaincy is not his forte I figured the next one will be Hen or bringing someone from outside of the same rank as Bobby to cover as captain.
They did that in Chicago Fire, same as Station 19. I don’t know what is going on in LAFD or 118 but I’m guessing the firehouse has more than one captain or more than four people.
I don’t get why Lucy would have been Bobby’s next choice, that was the writers’ lazy way of introducing Buck’s new conflict/crisis, and tbh at this point I’m kinda over Buck’s crisis being sprouted up by women, give me something more believable, something I can relate to, some form of mature writing for god’s sake. Lucy is injured at home, let her be injured at home lol
In fact Bobby did think about asking Hen and Buck agrees with all of us that Hen will make a great captain. Hen is the best choice for captain - we see it all the time, the way she reins in everyone, being a sounding board and the voice of reason when needed, She always knew how to navigate Buck and was so sweet to Ravi when he suffered under Buck’s mentoring lol.
So I’ll repeat -HEN IS THE BEST CHOICE FOR CAPTAIN!!!
This brings me to Buck and Eddie, I mean that first call, I wondered at first why Bobby sent Chimney with Eddie, but Buck headed straight over to help Eddie while Chimney helped the first pilot down the aerial, and they ended up doing the risky part of the rescue together. It was beautiful! I missed them working together.
Even though very professional, we can see that Buck is worried for Eddie, as he headed up the aerial quickly, the way he says his name, the way he looks up as he helps the co-pilot down. - Always looking out.
I have to say that even though that situation was extremely dangerous Eddie walked in and got through it with ease and grace, that jump out of that blimp was beautiful!  🤩
I actually expected the blimp emergency to be bigger, something dramatic, but I found I love it just as it is! It was refreshing, not to start a season with some kind of natural disaster or another. - It hit just right in my opinion.
The scene of the video call with Lucy showed that one, the team is fond of her and second, Bobby seems to trust her very quickly, I don’t really get it, I mean she’s been with them for 6-8 months now? She may be badass but she’s worse than Buck as far as self preservation goes. So I was just as surprised as Buck at the fact that Bobby considered her as interim captain, why would the team follow her after such a short time? But Buck’s face told a whole story which Eddie picked up immediately, his face a concentrated mix of worry and trying to discern how to neutralize the situation. Chimney good naturedly tried to lighten the mood, both Hen and Eddie joining in a roasting Chimney on the way it was nice to see things pretty much go back to normal. The next scene will live rent free in my head for a looong time,  I mean Buck doesn’t have a couch, the only place to sit is on the dining table, and still Eddie and Christopher are looking right at home, and comfortable just to be in Buck’s loft, with Buck. - They are not guests in Buck’s loft either, and it makes me wonder how many hours, days weeks, did the Diaz boys spend with Buck in his loft while Eddie was in therapy, as Buck was helping both him and Christopher through their crisis. I also love love love how Eddie is getting straight to the heart of the problem, seeing right through Buck’s roundabout speech about better more qualified people to fill in for Bobby. And neither Eddie nor Christopher allow him to wallow, nor encourage whatever funk he may harboring over this one thing. For me there were two things in play here, 1- Chimney said it quite adequately - “It’s always nice being asked.” 2- Buck is a little unsure of himself, he feels like the work is the one thing he does best and if that’s not what Bobby thinks then what does it say about him.
So many little nounces here, in this talk between Eddie and Buck, it’s all hinges on many domestic features too, it’s like they’re talking about one thing when in fact it feels like they are having a different discussion entirely. “He has so many other excellent options right under his nose..” “What like you?” “it’s like he’s choosing not to see them and everything they have to offer” “What are you offering?”   You’d think Buck would list what he has to offer in terms of captaincy but Buck gives a different answer, in fact verifying of that other underlined conversation i indicated before - “Right now, Bobby’s famous lasagna.” The Diaz boys admire the lasagna - “I looks good” - “It smells good”
- taking a pause here to share a little tidbit, I have a close friend who is bi - She loves to tell me how good I look even when I feel like the ugliest thing in the world and shallow as it may sound for me it is one of the best things you can say to me if you want to get me to smile. And she once told me when we talked that for her the highest form of complement is when people tell her she smells good. So Buck got here two of the ultimate complements (obviously there are more) it looks good and it smells good, still didn’t feel like we were talking about the lasagna lol.
“I just want to know what these other candidates have that I don’t.”
And here comes Christopher’s famous - “Buck, you don’t even have a couch.” - Took me a while to stop laughing, Christopher roasting Buck is one of my favorite things to watch, it’s sweet and shows affection and familiarity. (like I said before, it sounds a lot like May with Bobby.)
Buck, bless him, asks Christopher what does that has to do with the couch and Christopher answers that it’s weird. I love that kid so much!!
And Buck answers seriously, even though Chris is a kid, and in my family we usually brush our problems off with a joke - so I really admire Buck’s being honest and giving Christopher an honest answer. “My last couches came with gfs.”
Eddie shoots back “You mean your last two gfs came with couches.” - then turns serious, telling Buck that Taylor has been gone for four months, and he should have been able to get a new couch by now. And here again, it feels like we’re talking about something else entirely when Buck looks Eddie straight in the eye and answers “Maybe I don’t want to pick the wrong couch again.”
And here Eddie wraps it all up neatly - going back to that first topic - “Maybe that’s how Bobby feels about interim captain.”
The underline conversation here sounded to me a lot like, Buck not wanting to choose the wrong partner again, after everything they’ve been through together it feels like he knows who’s the right one but has yet to make a conscious decision to act on it. And same with Eddie - Eddie knowing why Bobby is hesitant about the wrong interim captain is stemming from his own unwillingness to choose the wrong person again and he’s waiting until he’s sure. - until they’re both sure.
In my opinion both Buck and Eddie know exactly where they are, it’s in every look, every smile, every word, every act. They are just threading carefully for now. So really, my guess? Oliver’s slip of the tongue (”season sex”), may not have been a slip of the tongue - or maybe just a Freudian slip who knows? lol.
The ring call should have held more significance, considering they originally thought it was a shooting, but we get Eddie being a hot paramedic and exasperated husband so I’m semi- happy with it.  The win-a-car call was sooo funny!! Eddie looked so hot, and so amused, he knew exactly how things are gonna go the moment the owner of the dealership told Bobby that rules are rules Lmao.  Buck was so enthusiastic it was so sweet, and Eddie looked so loving and amused as Buck walked past the owner with an almost inappropriate wide grin and a saw in his hands LMAO.
There was definitely silent Buddie conversation here too, that look exchange was everything. I am betting that at least 70% of that call was mostly Oliver and Ryan having fun. That last conversation with Bobby and Buck (Which had my faith restored in our good captain as far as Buck was concerned.) was so good. I missed their little moments. But here we in fact see that Buck’s issue wasn’t just about not being chosen for captain, he knows and agrees that Hen is the best choice. And we see that when Buck, sweet, innocent (sometimes) Buck, asks in the cutest funniest way ever “Is this because I don’t have a couch?” - This is a callback to his conversation with Eddie and Christopher, obviously their words are those that carry weight. Bobby’s response is a simple curious “Why don’t you have a couch?”
Buck’s answer is similar to what he tells Eddie, but it’s more revealing “I guess I’ve been having trouble picking one out, I think I’m afraid of making a mistake again.” - I mean it’s a couch, but Buck isn’t talking about the couch, he’s been through a string of unfortunate relationships and he’s been hurt, and he doesn’t want to be hurt again. Also, I always believed that if Eddie hadn’t been with ana at the time, Buck would never have started a relationship with Taylor, she was a comfort in a sea of hurt in the wake of Eddie’s injury. Eddie’s, now, ex-gf insured Buck search for comfort elsewhere. Going back to the conversation with Bobby - Bobby’s response is as usual a wise one “...You take an inventory of your life, admit your shortcomings, in hopes that one day you can look at the world straight in the eye and be alone at perfect peace and ease.” - The world here somehow signifies, for me, Eddie and Christopher for Buck, because really they are the only two people I see Buck being at peace and ease with. - Also the amount of time Buck and Eddie stared at each other straight in the eyes, I mean... all that left is the admitting part. 👀
Buck asks, but you can see the humor in his eyes, because he know the answer to be no, “You don’t think I’m at ease?” - Meaning he knows he’s not at peace. Bobby’s response made me want to hug him, really - “I think the important thing is that you answer that question for yourself, so when you are, you’ll know. And then you’ll be ready.”  - Bobby knows, anyone? 👀👀
The sequence scenes of Eddie and Christopher continuing to play Boggle (thank you @talespinner230) at home (playing “old school” like Buck suggested in Futue Tense👀😁💖) is now one of my top 5 Diaz family moments.
And Buck, now alone in his loft, taking that single chair from the side and planting it in front of the tv. For me, it’s telling, this is buck choosing his own chair, for him, in the spot where he wants it to be. - He’s making the conscious choice to focus on himself, building his life for himself. For the first time ever he gets to dictate what he wants to do and where his life would go instead of his action being dictated by outsiders. (parents, sibling, gfs.) - He’s taking control of his life and I love it, I can’t wait to see where this is going. To sum it up, if we don’t get buddie canon this season, then I’m going to riot because really there were so many insinuations just in one episode, it isn’t funny anymore.👀🙈
If you managed this far, I thank you from the bottom of my heart, it felt like the longest review ever. - I will probably make an all about Buddie post soon with pics and gifs, but first I had to get all my thoughts out of my system. Happy new season my loves! I’ve missed you!!💖💖💖

lucy's canon world state - dai codex entries
i will probably add more but these are just a few i know i wanted to get out
inquisitor ismone adaar, romanced josie. has a mom on a mission of vengeance whom she happens to resemble greatly (iykyk)
Report from Kinloch Hold Twenty-three mages and seven templars remained at the Circle Tower. Most of the mages were elderly, and all opposed the Grand Enchanter’s decision to rebel. After the Divine’s death, Inquisition representatives offered both mages and templars refuge in Skyhold. Knight-Commander Greagoir declined, believing their position in the Tower to be safe and defendable. Letters recently sent to the Tower received no reply. Scouts found the docks abandoned. What remained of Ferelden’s Circle has been annihilated. Mages and templars both struck down, skulls crushed by a heavy weapon. There was no evidence of red lyrium nor of blood magic. Some of the templars were found unarmed. Many of the mages were still in their beds. Nothing was stolen. Inquisition scouts are still in the area, searching for more information. Immediate suspicion surrounded former Circle mages, but there are reports of a warhammer-wielding Qunari in the area around the time of the murders. It may be prudent for the Inquisitor to establish an alibi for the night in question, given her stature. Without a Knight-Commander or First Enchanter, the Ferelden Circle is officially dissolved. -report to Commander Cullen on the status of his former Circle
The Tranquil Cure THE INQUISITION IS LYING TO YOU! Behind the dark walls of Skyhold, the Inquisition serves none other than the Seekers of Truth in their plot to overthrow the Chantry and establish a new Circle devoted to militant purposes!  A TRANQUIL CURE HAS BEEN DISCOVERED!  And the Inquisition keeps it from you! Keeps it from our brothers and sisters, friends and loved ones, Kirkwall’s flock, and the dark heart at the center of Skyhold itself! They say the first Tranquil has been cured! And Inquisition handed her back to the templars without delay! NO FREEDOM WHILE TRANQUILITY EXISTS! The Inquisition expects us to forget. Expects mages to forgive the Seekers for their failure to police the Templar Order, their sworn duty before the Maker! They would have us follow the College of Magi, content with our own oppression as long as it is no longer lawful. Our oppression was never lawful! Tranquility has always been used as a punishment outside the bounds of the Chantry’s permission! NO PEACE WITHOUT A CURE!  THE MAGE REBELLION LIVES! -leaflets quietly distributed around southern Thedas leading up to the Exalted Council
A Summer Wedding -100 bolts of silk -50 Orlesian florists -200 Ferelden workmen to clean and repair the villa -Seats for at least 150 guests, including proper arrangements for Ambassador Briala and the Queen and Prince-Consort of Ferelden -20 barrels of maraas-lok (a Qunari beverage favored by the Inquisitor and her Tal-Vashoth friend; no, no one else will be drinking it; yes, I said 20 barrels) -100 wreaths of jasmine flowers (I understand they are an Antivan wedding tradition) That’s all we’re missing for now. I asked the Inquisitor if she would require guards for the ceremony, and she just pointed at some names on the guest list. I suppose that’s fair. I’d like to see a party crasher try. Lady Pentaghast would tear them apart. Oh, and do see if you can get more of those tiny Orlesian cakes. They’re always a hit with the old Inquisition team. -letter to a supplier from a Ferelden wedding planner

Princess Lara: Working so he’s watching from his office. Speaking of “work”, I need to post this picture from the interview to Simstagram!
Queen Rowena: You kids and your phones!
Tumblr media
Princess Lara: If only I had an assistant to help me. Daddy hasn't approved anyone.
Tumblr media
Queen Rowena: I’ll talk to him, darling. After tonights interview and the press from the engagement, your schedule will fill quickly. Yours too, Anthony. Having an assistant will help keep you both organized. We also have a wedding to plan!
Princess Lara: Okay, shh, it’s starting!
Tumblr media
Cameron Dorly [SNN]: Good evening. I’m Cameron Dorly. Tonight, we sit down with Her Royal Highness The Princess Lara and her fiancé Anthony Mercier-Jones to talk about their whirlwind love affair, engagement and upcoming Royal Wedding. Without further delay, let’s get into it.
Tumblr media
Cameron: Your Royal Highness. Mr Jones. Thank you for having me at Buckingsim Palace. Your love affair has taken the public by storm! We read your recent ROGUE article and learned about the romance and how it all began so let’s talk about now. You’re engaged! How did the proposal happen? Lara, where you expecting it?
Tumblr media
Princess Lara: I wasn't, Cameron! He had been acting rather kind the days leading up to the proposal. He had an audience with His Majesty and that struck me as strange but never did I think he was asking for my hand in marriage!
Tumblr media
Princess Lara: The proposal was magical! He rented a cabin in Mt Komorebi and we went skiing and did the slopes and just had fun. I always enjoy being with him. I love him! When we got to the bottom of the Ka’anei slope I turned around and there he was down on one knee with the most beautiful ring!
Cameron: That does sound magical! Anthony, what was it like asking The King to marry his daughter?
Tumblr media
Anthony: His Majesty is so warm and inviting. I’ve gotten a chance to get to know the family much more over the the last few months so having an audience with His Majesty was very comfortable.
Cameron: Did he know why you requested an audience?
Anthony: I mean, he’s the King. Not too much gets by him. I think he had his suspicions, haha.
Tumblr media
Cameron: So, everyone’s bound to ask - Children? Do you want lots of children?
Anthony: Kate and I both only have 1 sibling. If it were up to me we’d have 20 kids, Cameron!
Princess Lara: Well, I think we’ll take it one step at a time. I think we’ll get over the marriage first then tackle the kids.
Tumblr media
Princess Lara: We’ve talked about kids. We both come from great families! Anthony has an amazing brother and I have the best big sister. Obviously, we want a family so we’ll have to start thinking about that but first things first!
Cameron: You’ve been engaged for several weeks now. Have you decided on a wedding date?
Tumblr media
Anthony: I’d marry her tomorrow if I could but we want to give you guys a show!
Princess Lara: Oh, darling haha. We are hoping for a fall wedding, Cameron. We don't want to spoil any surprises but the palace may be announcing a wedding date soon!
Cameron: Anthony, you’re marrying into one of the Sims worlds most famous families. Lara’s father is the King of Windenburg! Do you find it intimidating? Are you relaxed about it?
Tumblr media
Anthony: The members of the family who I've met have achieved a lot but there’s no pressure. It’s about carving your own future and I plan on doing a very great job of that!
Cameron: What do you say to the critics arguing that you’re rushing this marriage, that this won't last?
Princess Lara: Our hope is that everyone will wish us success in our marriage and focus on sharing more love and not hate. This is a happy time for our family, filled with love.
Tumblr media
Cameron: Your Royal Highness; Mr. Jones, thank you both for welcoming myself and our viewers into your home and sharing even more of your love story with us. You both look happy and we look forward to the wedding! Good luck!
Princess Lara/Anthony: Thank you!
Cameron Dorly [SNN]:My name is Cameron Dorly and from the SNN family, thank you for watching and have a good night!

Dawn
Day 12, and I chose the prompt "dawn" with some crack-taken-seriously Darcy/Elsa... Context from last year's FFC: Darcy and Queen Elsa have been caught in a compromising position in his pond at Pemberley, and must now marry...
It was the break of dawn in Arendelle on his wedding day, and Darcy dreaded it.  He had no choice in the matter, though.  A series of coincidences and legal technicalities had brought him to this point, and he would need to do his duty and follow through with marrying Queen Elsa of Arendelle.
The negotiations of the marriage contract had gone late into the night, but now that all the details were settled, there was to be no delay of the marriage itself.  He would be allowed to travel a few times a year to his estate at Pemberley to manage affairs, but the rest of the time he would be expected to perform his royal duties as Prince Consort. The contract negotiations had not gone into very much detail about what constituted the duties of a prince consort, but he was not so naive as to have no guesses.
As his valet dressed him for the royal wedding, he found himself surprisingly jealous of the queen’s younger sister at this point; as much as her choice of future husband was clearly ill-suited in terms of rank or fortune, the man appeared to have no ulterior motive, and, unlike his own wedding, no one was forced into it. Darcy thought of all the women who he had once considered as potential wives, and even that disastrous proposal. So many things might have saved him from his current fate.
Darcy’s valet was finishing up just as the castle steward arrived to inform him that it was time. He followed the man to his fate.

Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time
Wisdom 6: 12-16
Wisdom is shared as a female figure with profound advice.
Psalm 63
The Psalmist describes the goodness of God.
First Thessaloninas 4: 13-18
Speaks about life after death.
Matthew 25: 1-13
Matthew shares the first of three important parables.
Today’s Gospel is very familiar to us because Matthew shares three powerful parables.  He begins today with the wise and foolish virgins and follows soon with the story about talents given and then, the final judgement.
Today we meet ten virgins. They were probably friends of the groom.  Some translations actually calls them bridesmaids, not virgins.  Throughout the Gospels, wedding feasts and banquets often take center stage and remind the readers of God’s Kingdom. In addition, the term “10” also might refer to a concept of wholeness.
There are several factors today we may want to explore.  Why was the groom delayed? Was he still negotiating the dowery he expected from the brides’ father?   The delay caused many to fall asleep and note, all the bridesmaids did fall asleep.  When the groom does arrive it is at midnight and this is other term that reminds the listeners, that it was at midnight that God’s power passed over the homes of the Jews in Egypt that enabled them to flee from Egypt’s tyranny.
When the groom arrives all ten bridesmaids arise and try to light their lamps to greet him.  The “foolish ones” did not have enough oil to meet the moment and asked the “wise ones” for some help.  We have several questions we might ask?  Why were they unprepared?  Why didn’t the “wise” ones not help? How could anyone expect then to find oil at that hour?
I believe there are deeper issues in this story.  Jesus seems to be saying that life calls us to be prepared and ready to respond to God’s will.  Awareness also is at the heart of this story.  One other insight we can find is that all of us are both wise and foolish from time to time.  That awareness helps us in our relationships with others.
Perhaps this is where we can turn to our first reading, from the Book of Wisdom for insights into this story. Wisdom, I believe is an important help as we live life and struggle to be aware.  We read, “…wisdom is readily perceived by those who love her, and found by those who seek her.”  In addition, we can see the link to our first reading when we hear, “…whoever for her sake keeps vigil shall quickly be free from care.”
The importance of the oil and lamps is also a critical feature on this parable.  How desperately these days we need the light of wisdom to assist us as we walk through the struggles in our own lives, and in the lives of our brothers and sisters around the world.  The pain of the conflict between Israel and Palestine, the gun violence in our own country, the antisemitism that is growing, and the lies that unfold into our news, all need the light of divine wisdom for solutions and insights.
Barbara Lundblad, a scripture scholar has written, “Instead of labeling one another as wise or foolish can we enter into this parable together asking what oil we need to keep the light of faith burning?”
I suggest that it is “the light of wisdom” that enables us to live our Baptismal call of love and service.

Viewing Response 9: Bend It Like Beckham
Chadha’s film Bend It Like Beckham explores the ways in which “the racialized immigrant identity indefinitely delays the resolution of the women’s question” under “the guise of protecting [the] women in a foreign land” (Chacko, 83). Throughout the film, Jess’s parents are constantly pushing and interrogating this idea of what it means to be a “proper woman”. They see Jess’s interest in football as “the invasion of ‘foreign’ cultural practices into their domestic space” (Chacko, 82). However, by the end of the movie, Jess is seen to be able to reconcile her cultural values with her own autonomy and choices, perhaps redefining what it means to be a “proper woman”. The sequence in which this is most prominent is the scene of Pinky’s wedding, followed by Jess’s football game. In this sequence, Jess attends Pinky’s wedding, having already decided that she was going to miss her game. She shows up to her support her sister in this moment, even though missing the game made Jess herself upset, and it is at that point that Jess is encouraged by her father to go to the football game. She then attends the football game and scores the winning goal. Within this sequence, Jess is able to show up for her family while still accomplishing her own goals. This film allows us to see the ways in which intersecting identities of race, gender, and migrant statuses can play out in the lives of immigrant women of color, and the ways in which they resist the expectations pushed onto them.

Dying in a Winter Wonderland (A Year-Round Christmas Mystery) by Vicki Delany #Review @vickidelany
I love this series and was shocked a couple of weeks ago when I realized I had not read Dying in a Winter Wonderland as soon as it was released.  I was driving myself a little crazy trying to figure out how I missed this book. Well, then I realized it was released when I was in the middle of my cancer treatments. I had started reading it but didn't finish it because of a short hospital stay. My chemo brain was in full effect at that time too. When I opened the book on my Kindle it was on Chapter Six. Apparently, I started a new book and didn't remember to finish this one. So I backed it up and started from the beginning. I apologize to Vicki for my delayed review. The next book Have Yourself A Deadly Little Christmas is being released on September 19.

In the town of Rudolph, New York, the Christmas season should make spirits bright, but as the year comes to an end, so does a life, in the fifth installment of this charming cozy mystery series. Christmas has arrived in Rudolph, New York, and Merry Wilkinson is looking forward to a much-needed rest. But before that can happen, Luanne Ireland walks through her door. Luanne had asked Merry to help make decorations for her wedding but has suddenly moved the wedding months earlier and is now demanding that everyone follow her lead, regardless of the cost. But that cost is much higher than anyone anticipated. When Luanne's fiancé is found murdered at their proposed wedding venue, Merry resolves to restore peace and calm to the community of Rudolph. But the closer she gets to the killer, the more personal the case becomes, and Merry begins to worry that a death knell could ring in the New Year. Dollycas's Thoughts  We arrive in Rudolph, New York, just in time for Christmas Eve and Merry is looking forward to a little relaxation after the holidays. Then, Luanne Ireland comes into the shop bubbling with excitement. She had asked Merry to do the decorations for her wedding and now instead of a summer wedding, she wants to get married on Valentine's Day. "What could be more romantic?" Luanne even wants Merry to tell her family, groom, and future in-laws it was her idea. Life with Luanne is never easy but Merry didn't think Luanne's groom would be murdered at the Yuletide Inn, their future wedding venue the day after Christmas. She also didn't expect her brother to be a prime suspect in his death. That makes the murder personal for Merry and she finds herself right in the middle of another investigation. She hopes to help wrap up the case and prove her brother's innocence before the residents of Rudolph ring in the New Year but the killer may have other plans. I love the Wilkerson family. Merry Wilkerson owns Mrs. Claus’s Treasures, her mother Aline is a retired opera diva and her father Noel is the former mayor and performs all Santa Claus duties needed all year long. She has sisters Eve and Carol and a brother Chris. Chris plays a major role in this story. Her best friend, Vicky, owns Victoria's Bakeshop. She helps Merry do some sleuthing whenever she can. I love the way Merry's relationship with Alan has grown. They are truly perfect for each other. Most of the core characters in this series are engaging and genuine. There are a few that are a little prickly and spirited but not in a good way. The crazy quirky of this cozy mystery comes from the characters introduced in this story. Luanne is something else. She can test a person's patience and has total disregard for others. Thankfully Merry and her brother Chris are kind and patient people. Luanne's family, her groom before his death, his ex, and his family are also in their own worlds doing what is best for themselves at all times. I will say that they do deliver some wonderful comedic moments throughout the story. The mystery was complicated and full of surprises. Merry's investigation even takes her, Vicky, and the loveable Mattie, Merry's St. Bernard, to the neighboring town of Muddle Harbor as they try to dig up some dirt while trying to tie some clues together. Merry works so hard, asking questions and keeping her ears open for any detail that will point her in the right direction. Ms. Delany gives her readers presents with plenty of twists and turns and I did my darndest to keep up with each one of them and failed. I had my A-Ha-Moment right along with Merry. There were several possible suspects and the actual killer didn't even make my list. That made the final chapters very exciting as a dangerous showdown played out. I love the theme of this series and the setting of Rudolph. All the Christmas themed places and events are so delightful. Dying in a Winter Wonderland is a fun, entertaining, and merry read. It is a Perfect Escape and perfect to read at any time of year, even now when we are creeping toward 100 degrees here in Wisconsin. Vicki Delany is a fabulous storyteller and I have fun escaping into anything she writes. I am very excited that the next book in this series, Have Yourself A Deadly Little Christmas will be released on September 19.

7 Years...
Wow it has been 7years.... and im back again... I got so much to rant.
7 years has passed and lot of things had changed..
I got engaged, married, move out, living together with my husband in rental apartment, got the BTO and currently preparing for wedding next year. Needless to say, I am happy but disappointed...
Honestly? I don’t know whether I am really happy... Sometime I wish I could see these red flags and somebody taught me these red flags.
It started with his family. HIS FREAKING FAMILY IS SO NIGHTMARE.
All the years I thought they are okay with me and turn out they are REALLY not okay and yet my husband didn’t tell me about it because he don’t want me to be hurt but WHY? If he had told me earlier and we could work it out together, it could be better but he didn't..
Initially his family was against me just because I am D and they are worried that he have to support the family if our unborn child is born D. WTF? A child that has been not made or born, is already facing discrimination. But in the end, I found out why.. Because his parent is heavily depending on him for family financial. Isn't it funny? His dad is head of the family but still want to depend on my husband to pay for their house bills, cig and betting.
Are you even not ashamed of yourself?? What kind of father expecting their child to pay for them? Why did you give birth to these children?
Ironically, my husband think it is nothing wrong and said it is “pay-back” to parent.. Is $550 allowance every month and asking for $500~$1K fine?? Nobody does that, dude....
Another one, his sister is shitty snake. Actually I don’t know how can her bf tahan her given her shitty attitude and worse that they are planning to get marry next year when she had not been proposed yet and already bought the wedding ring and decided the month.
After my husband proposed to me, she totally act like nice sis in law that I will have but her attitude totally change right after I wanted to start prepare for the PWS as I initially wanted to get married on 22 Feb 2022 and had told my husband the reason and he also agreed with it but I don’t know why he has been delaying in preparing proposal and everything when he already bought proposal ring in end of Dec 2020... (Yes, I knew because he brought me to ring shops and bought right after I said I like this ring). Plenty time to prepare right? I don’t know what is going thru his mind.
In Sept 21, he finally proposed and I asked him is the 22 Feb thingy still on and he said yes but funny, he still had not start doing anything so I decided to do and research everything on my own in Nov and Dec. I start preparing everything and shared everything with him and he always kept said “Anything, you decide. I am fine with anything”. So I processed to book appointment with several bridal studios to try gowns on. His sister heard about it and told us that she wanted to be part of it as well so that she and her bf can help us in preparing and even mentioning “Eventually marriage isn’t just between the two of you.”. Weird but fine, I said ok as it is our first time preparing and I told her that I will ask my sister to be part of it as well because I find it weird that why must her bf be part of it when he is still “outsider”. So I suggested to having another chat group of us for easy convenience and she agreed. It seem all good till she suddenly asked in new group chat, “Actual wedding is 2022 or just the rom?”. Since he and I already planned to have both on same year and and asked her whether my husband had told her. My husband said the parent are fine with it, just that the different date then his sister said that since we are insisting, she will not be attending our wedding. Then she start going off at me on how I am being so manipulative and etc.
I was very stunned and don’t know what to say because little while ago, she was so sweet, asking to be part of planning as she wanted to help and yet few minute later... she fking change her attitude and also self confessed that she have mental problem..
Ironically, she didn’t think she start it first and had been blaming me for few months. That is one of red flags but I choose to ignore and thinking that it will be getting better once we got married BUT no.
It didn’t get better. One month to moving in our rental apartment, he wanted to move in on 1 Nov and I agreed. 2 days before our ROM, he told me that he changed mind and asked whether can we live separate for a few months because his brother is not comfortable with him moving out. Turn out, it is his SISTER WHO IS NOT FUCKING COMFORTABLE. She suddenly self harmed and that made my husband worried.
Excuse you, what about me??? I had been so stressful preparing PWS, liaising with people and all the stuffs while he was busy with overseas missions and yet one word from his sister, he readily drop everything.
That made me thinking of myself. What am I had been doing all these years, months, weeks and day?? All for nothing? What am I? Am I just a “sex toy” that he can release his monsters any time?
After 2 weeks of me crying and asking him why another couples and us are so different, he decided to move in but on one condition, he need to go back to his parent place to spend few days.
Needless to say, I was shocked and asked him whether he think the arrangement is fine and he said yep. I asked him then why did we married at first place and he said oh because you wanted it.
WOW, so everything started because of me..  I really don’t know what to say anymore. I am so tired and tired of being disappointed again and again.
I sometime asked myself why did I stay with him for long time and get married to him? I really wanted to ask him that why don’t he marry his family since he treat them as his priority instead of his wife. What is the purpose of marriage? What is the purpose of renting apartment when you cannot spend your time sleeping here and build the marriage bond?
Boy, i want to tell you that if you continue doing this, you might lose me one day without realising. I don’t want to cry to sleep every day and night.
