Black nose F-16
Early variants of the General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon came with black paint over the radome, this in order to not interfere with the radar system behind them, as the color, a product of a rubber-based compound , was deemed the least likely to mess with radar signals.
It was eventually changed to lighter tones after development in paints allowed for different hues, this after pilots actively complained the color made the aircraft easier to spot in the air.

I want a NATOwave style music video for Harrison Armory so bad
Sort of like this one:
youtube
I want to see a Saladin defending troops from cluster munitions.
A Genghis drowning an enemy mech in flames in close quarters
A Barbarossa emerging from a hollowed out asteroid and nailing an enemy spaceship.
That would be so fucking cool.

F-14 FUN FACT OF THE DAY #16
The F-16 Fighting Falcon and F/A-18 Hornet came in both single-seat and two-seat variants, primarily utilized as trainer aircraft. Unlike the two-seat variants of those aircraft, the F-14 Tomcat never had flight controls in the backseat, meaning the back seater could not take over flying the jet in cases of emergency. There were no F-14 Tomcat trainers.
Instead, they'd do a "flip flop hop." They'd have the new pilot sit in the back after someone "fluffed" the aircraft, aka ran through the start up procedures with another pilot as the new pilot was not trained to be a RIO. Then they would watch their instructor go through certain maneuvers, then they would switch and the trainee would perform the same maneuvers.

I can't tell you how many Top Gun Maverick graphics and moodboards I've seen that make me laugh because they include these pictures or ones very similar.

BECAUSE, Y'ALL.
Those are the Thunderbirds.
The AIR FORCE demo team who fly the F-16 Fighting Falcon.
For Top Gun Maverick graphics and moodboards, you want these guys.

The Blue Angels
They're the Navy's demo team who fly the F-18 Super Hornet.
The exact same plane they fly in the movie (fun fact: it was a Blue Angel Super Hornet that did the actual fly over above Admiral Cain we see Darkstar do in the movie).
Now, the two teams do fly together on occasion. But please make note of two differences besides the obvious paint schemes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1) The F-16 has one tail fin while the F-18 has two and 2) The F-18 is way bigger than the F-16.
Also a reminder that the Navy does NOT fly the F-22 Raptor (that is Air Force only).
