Family Game Night
Tumblr media
KIDS IT'S AN EMERGENCY!!! screamed Batmom hoping for her family to come down quick.
Mama, are you okay? do you need anything? said Dick in a panic tone ready to do CPR. Mom, what happened? said Tim but was pushed on the floor by the youngest Wayne, Ummi are you ok? Finally came her baby bird Jason who seemed calm but was ultimately dying to kill whoever hurt his mother.
Bruce who was right next to Batmom, shaking his head in disappointment. Kids calm down your mother is fine, right Honey?
huh, yeah, I just wanted to play a board game said Batmom rather cutely who showed two Monopoly board games in her hands. The kids and her husband couldn't say no. She even convinced Alfred to join but he rather be the banker.
It started out fine but........ Give that to me, you landed on my property! exclaimed Damian. No, I did not, quit cheating demon spawn! Jason said in anger. In all honesty, It was funny for the family to see Jason a grown man fight with a 12-year-old child.
But then the chaos erupted, Tim thought it would be funny if he threw some of the mini properties at Jason and blamed it on Damian. Don't blame me Tim said Damian in fury. Well it wasn't me said Dick. and that was when it turned to World War III.
We have to hide honey said a worried Burce. What about my Babies, said Batmom. Those are no longer your Babies, I'm sorry honey, said Bruce. He pushed you and Alfred Behind the table and stood up tall, closing his eyes waiting for the Hurricane.
But nothing happens. He opened his eyes and saw all his kids sitting on the floor surrounded by the mess they caused, they looked Happy even JASON. Bruce Helped his wife and Alfred up, and both were surprised to see the kids so happy and calm.
They decided to stop playing the board games for tonight not wanting to cause World War IV, and instead watch a movie. No distractions, no fighting just peace till.... GET YOUR HANDS OUT OF MY POPCORN!!!! screamed Damian.

Bruno: Uno!
-a few turns later-
Julieta: Sorry hermano, skip!
Bruno: I spent ten years in the walls to protect your daughter.
Julieta: -slowly plays a different card-
Pepa: This is really what you're wasting that on?
Bruno: Uno is very serious business, Pepa.

So Maverick totally has his kids...I mean the Dagger Squad over for game nights right?
The only problem is he has to keep banning games because his kids...I mean the Dagger Squad are absolute terrors.
UNO is banned because Phoenix once stocked up on +2s and left Hangman to draw 68 cards in one turn...he had only had one card left. Hangman about had a heart attack. Bob was crying. Rooster couldn't stop laughing at how red Hangman was getting. Payback goes and gets a bottle of Jack and just starts chugging. Maverick was sitting in the corner just rubbing his temples and wondering how the hell his life had come to this.
MONOPOLY is also banned. Let's just say they aren't too sure who threw a temper tantrum and threw the game board across Maverick's living room...but it was totally Rooster.
WII SPORTS is banned. Maverick is the culprit here, he broke his own TV trying to bowl. The kids laughed at him and he took great offense to that. So no more Wii Sports for them.
CATAN is banned. Bob and Fanboy never let anyone else win. It's always one of those two. The others are sore losers, so Maverick has to protect his two precious babies from their mean ass siblings. It's banned.
THE GAME OF LIFE is banned for many reasons. Mostly because Hangman makes crude comments about how the pegs can even fuck and have babies. But also because once Rooster cried because he didn't have any kids that round and felt like a failure. Like babe. It's okay. But Maverick banned it because man these children are the worst.
ANY TRIVIA GAME. Listen. Everyone fights over teams. Maverick is over the bickering. Banned. Any game with trivia? Gone. No more trivia for them.
....family game nights stop as quickly as they were started because Maverick's kids are all assholes....

Houses and Taxes
After his 3rd failed attempt at getting everyone into Dungeons and Dragons, (apparently when you deal with demons for a living a "stupid dice can’t tell you that beheading this creature doesn't work because I did that before"), Simon makes up a Shadowhunter Version. "Houses and Taxes" , where the shadowhunters get to experience life as a mundane, and have to navigate it according to role playing rules.
It's Chaos.
"Why can’t I apply for this job?!"
"Because your character didn’t go to college."
"I couldn’t afford that because I didn’t roll high enough to get the scholarship. "
"Welcome to mundane life."
-
Simon: "Jace, you're homeless now." Jace: "What? Why?" Simon: "Because you didn't want to pay an electrician to fix your stove and it short-circuited and then everything was on fire." Jace: "I had my character fix it himself!" Simon: "But you didn't invest any skill points in craftsmanship, so your character actually made it worse. And you rolled less than a 5, so the firefighters got Magnus' cat out of the tree before getting to you." Magnus: "I made sure to make my character's cat extra adorable, so the charisma stat helped my roll for the firefighter priority." Jace: "How was I supposed to know that I would need such a mediocre skill?" Izzy: "Well, what good did you think maxing out attractiveness and combat would do?" Jace: "Just trying to keep my character close to myself." Izzy: "Any now you are homeless, that's what you get from that." Jace: "Can I crash with you?" Izzy: "I just sold my place to afford the downpayment on my restaurant and moved in with Clary." Alec: "Iz? Out of curiosity, how many skill points did you invest in cooking?" Izzy: "None. I used the 'personal experience' card to buff that, so that I could put points into other things." Alec: "Okay. Simon? Is it too late withdraw the offer of financial backing I made to Izzy earlier?" Simon: "If you can roll higher than 13, the bank will lose all documentation of it due to a hacker attack." Izzy: "Hey!"

The family version of Cards Against Humanity is hysterical
Tumblr media
It's definitely a case of "this is funny to adults in a different way than it's funny to kids", but it is so funny.

So many people talk about Megatron and Optimus from Earthspark having that unstoppable duo dynamic.
That being said, I have a headcanon they win most, if not all, of the games during Family Game Night™.

TL;DR version: My card game, Jewel Thief, can be played for free by following the downloadable rules available on the shop page and with a regular deck of cards (look for 🍕 under the fold to learn how). I'm pleased with the review it received and plan to address the critiques in a second edition in the future (maybe).
Posting about my card game, Jewel Thief again. A review for it went up, so figured now would be a good time (even tho I’m 2 months late cause the review went up in July -_-). I won’t explain the game again; check out this post if you want to know. The gist is that it’s a competitive card matching game with four variants.
There’s another review that hasn’t gone up, yet so I might make another post or just update this one idk.
First thing’s first, thank you to Michelle Ridge of Board Game Quest for reviewing my humble card game. Her review gels pretty well with my own opinions on the game, honestly. Click the previous link to read it.
Her main critiques were:
Gameplay may become stale over time
Rulebook style may be hard to parse
Playable at two but not exciting
But she seemed to generally like it; which is great! I’d like to address her cons in a potential expansion/second edition; thinking about some kind of 2+ player battle mode or somethin’ idk for points 1 and 3, and I kinda-sorta addressed the second point just recently by uploading downloadable rules to the game’s shop page. I agree with her on it being difficult to read, as it uses a retro-style typeface for its text in which letters overlap and blend together. As the only way to purchase the game is online for the foreseeable future I think digital rules is a fine solution for now, though I would like to play around with the manual’s formatting and whatnot. 🍕 Speaking of downloadable rules, tho; you can easily play the game using a regular deck of cards by removing the Jacks, Queens, Kings, and Jokers and matching the numbers during gameplay. Just designate a number as the diamond if you play game 3 and you're good to go.
I want as many people to enjoy the game as possible, so I hope you give it a try; and, if you enjoy it, let other people know about it. For now-
Peace

HC: TUA game night
1. Luther
Luther will always bring out the Monopoly. No matter how much everyone protests, he always wants to play Monopoly. Until one day you join for game night and when you see him pull it out, you go: “Oh, did we not want friends anymore? Because you only play that game when you don’t want friends.” Luther looks down at it in confusion then immediately returns it to the pile of games.
2. Diego
Diego always wants to play Twister. He really has two main reasons. First, he’s really good at it. And second, when it’s not his turn playing everyone looks so fucking hilarious he can’t help but love it.
3. Allison
Allison isn’t the type to commit to a long board game, so she sticks to the shorter 20-30 minute card games. She does really love Sushi Go Party and FLUXX.
4. Klaus
Klaus loves party games. Especially ones where you have to guess stuff, like Code Names, Taboo or Mysterium. If he can get Ben to be on his team, they’re an unstoppable force. After the 5th time they obliterate everyone else, the family forbids them from being on the same team for any game that involve guessing.
5. Five
Five might look like the kind of guy who likes strategy games, but he just likes the silly ones. He loves Exploding Kittens and Unstable Unicorns. He’s very good at them and is always trying to beat his own record for quickest winning time.
6. Ben
Ben loves long complicated games. He’ll play just about anything, but if given the choice, he’ll pick a game that goes for hours and hours or even across multiple sessions if he can get away with it. He loves Betrayal of House on the Hill or Pandemic or even Dead of Winter.
7. Viktor
Viktor really doesn’t care what games they play. They just really enjoy spending bonding time with their family. If he had to choose, he likes some of the longer card games. He’s always down for Sushi Go Party, but he also likes things like Munchkin and is always down for a game of Jenga.
Bonus!Lila
Lila loves those murder mystery type games. Like Werewolf or Coup. She also really loves Betrayal of House on the Hill, but only if she gets to be the bad guy.
Bonus 2.0 Sparrow!Ben
This Ben likes word games because he is good at them. Also because he can make fun of the other people playing. His go to is Scrabble, but will also murder at Bananagrams.

Since one of Retro's special interests is arcade games / just games in general
I can imagine that there would at least be game nights, where Greaser, Fresh, Retro, Disco, Skillet, Jellybean, and David play games, maybe like Mario Kart, Pico Park, Who's Your Daddy, Gang Beasts, or just trying to see who can get the highest score on a one-player game, maybe card games and board games, Uno, Pit, Monopoly, Sorry,,, funking go fish
Side note: Retro would do anything to annoy everyone,,, mostly Skillet /hj
