Can you believe Pixelberry Choices stopped writing sequels to amazing books like the It Lives series, Blades of Light and Shadow, just to now write sleazy books where the MC is plotting to steal someone else’s man bc she was too chickenshit to tell him that she’s liked him for literally TEN FUCKING YEARS????
I’m fed up.

‘Rebecca has every right to hate the MC for trying to steal Blake away. Heck, even if Blake is obviously in love with MC it's not Rebecca's fault!’

At least The Nanny Affair was fun
So I did what I did with The Nanny Affair and decided I'd play this book as a homewrecker and all-around not-a-good person, person. You know the kind of person who thinks they're the victim but really is an awful person, who's enabled by other people like themselves looking at you Marcelino
It's still not fun. It's not interesting or clever.
MC and Blake are clearly good friends but that doesn't make them a good love match. As previously stated by me in another post, they clearly have communication issues, I mean 10 years mate...
Blake has commitment issues, which coupled with the fact they're unable to talk to one another about their feelings, really doesn't bode well for a long-term commitment.
So far Rebecca's biggest faults are she's doing things she's scared of to get to know the person she has feelings for. She likes to win, has allergies and is close to her family. Oh and let's not forget that in a cabin (and by cabin I mean house, that's fully kitted out with all modern conveniences.) in the woods she wanted eggs benedict for breakfast.
How dare she! I mean the sheer fucking hubris of the woman!
So far MC’s faults are trying to steal someone’s partner, planning to use someone’s allergies against them (basically planning something that could kill someone) and being as immature AF.
This could have been a glorious chapter of fluffy goodness. MC and her friends trying to set them both up while they go kayaking. You could even have Eve take on the role of Rebecca and be the person who doesn't know how to kayak. It would have been a nice time and the tension would have come from MC and LI 'will they, won't they' dynamic.
Instead, we get a petty child stomping her foot and digging up dirt over a woman who's just trying to get to know the person she has feelings for.

i thought i wasn't gonna enjoy fcl, but it turns out it's a nice way to relive one's personal experiences of unrequited love for their best friend

‘i personally think "first comes love" did an amazing job of reeling wlw in for chapter 1/the introduction only for the actual rest of the book to be a complete shit show. because of that first chapter and the flashbacks i genuinely thought it'd be a good book because of the accuracy in the representation - one glance at f!blake and i can just tell she's queer (also think her and m!blake look like completely different characters), the realistic "love/dating life as a wlw" talk and the same sex marriage discussion, having other explicitly queer characters in the form of felicia and lino, eve saying "useless sapphics" (yes i know this happens in ch 2)... god if there's one definition of absolute disappointment then this book is it. also Why?? is mc so not a girls girl despite being a Literal Lesbian???’

First comes love is not an affair story???? There’s no affair there at all and nothing happens between Blake and MC until Blake’s relationship with Rebecca is over. It’s not my favorite book or one I think was done greatly, but to say that it is an affair story is completely false and to compare it to a book like TNA has got to be a joke. They’re not even close.
Both TNA and FCL (and TBB seems to be going on this route as well) not only are both stories about MC trying to pursue an LI who's already in a relationship, but they also both revolve around straw-loser-villainizing the LI's current female partner (and, in the case of TNA, the LI's returning former wife that was mistaken for dead as well) in order to justify the MC pursuing said LI. Because PB seems to think that their (straight) female audience enjoys being pit against other women over a love interest.
@choices-binglebonkus can probably explain it better than I can, but even though MC and Blake may not be explicitly or physically intimate behind Rebecca's back, the relationship can still count as an emotional affair.
