I’ve been having a rough time with life and some friends stuff, could you maybe do a Chrobin fic with Robin feeling really lonely and down with maybe an argument with Chrom as a result? Soft ending with plenty of making up of course.

(I can't see Chrom and Robin arguing over it, they're both too soft ;;;;;;;;; I hope u don't mind that it's less argue and more snuggle ;;; )

It had gotten a lot more lonely since the king had become…well, king. Chrom was growing more distant, though it clearly wasn’t something he wished for.

The poor man would come to bed exhausted, late at night, long after you’d gone to sleep. It was shocking sometimes, seeing as you burned the midnight oil well into the dark mornings, but he still was getting to sleep after you, and then somehow, finding the strength to rise before you.

As the queen and chief tactician, you certainly had your hands full, but at the end of the day, your duties were over long before Chrom’s were.

And worse yet, Chrom’s duties were typically in another wing entirely from where you were at any given moment. It was exhausting, but worse yet, it was isolating. You missed your husband.

After a month of this, you had enough. The adjustment period was starting to end, and you hoped the two of you could find a new normal.

Some sort of new groove for the two of you to fall into, so that you could at least have a meal together.

You were both royals now, but for some reason, your husband was constantly kept at bay, far away from you.

So you finished up your duties that night, a little earlier through sheer force of will, and you headed straight to Chrom.

A few inquiries with maids and a wrong turn eventually led you to his office.

Doors shut tight, preferably to keep the world out. You steeled yourself, and tapped your knuckles against the door.

“...Yes?”

“Er, Chrom? It’s me.”

“Robin?”

His voice was muffled through the door, but you could hear how tired he was. You heard a shuffle in the room, a thud followed by a string of curses, but within a few moments the doors were pulled open.

Oh, Chrom.

He looked utterly exhausted.

“Come in, please.” He sounded almost desperate to bring you in. He looked so pale, and disheveled. One of the buttons on his tunic was improperly fastened, and the circlet he was supposed to have on at all times was haphazardly hung off the back of his chair.

A scatter of parchment across the floor suggested that was indeed the thud you’d heard before, but despite it all, there was still a shadow of a smile on his face.

At least he was happy to see you.

“Chrom, are you all right?” You were worried, of course. He took you into the office and shut the doors behind you, heaving a loud sigh.

“I wish I could tell you I was, but…it’s pretty obvious I’m not. Unfortunately, picking up the pieces after war, on top of a sudden coronation makes for a lot of catch-up work nobody could’ve prepared us for.”

“It has been awfully busy.” You agreed, stooping down to pick up the papers on the floor. Chrom was quick to join you, lopsided stacks in each of your arms. “And it looks like you’re behind on a lot of it, too…”

“Well, Emm’s death caused a massive ripple effect in everything related to the kingdom, all the way down to signatures and wax seals of approval. A lot of it is stuff I had to approve as the new Exalt, but then a whole typhoon of paperwork came in that had to be re-approved from Emm’s previous work. Stuff that hadn’t been processed before she…”

“I get it.” You spoke softly, a hand on his shoulder. Chrom looked up at you wistfully, clearly stretched thin. “It does explain why it’s been so hard to get ahold of you, though, doesn’t it?”

“I suppose it does…” He stood back up, the two of you tidying the stacks.

“I just don’t know what to do with all this.” Chrom looked so defeated, it didn’t sit well with you. It was worrying.

He was a pillar of strength and vitality, but he looked so defeated, and downtrodden.

“Maybe take a break from it.” You suggested, taking the papers from his hands and pulling all the documents together back where they belonged on his desk.

Chrom sank down into his seat behind the heavy old thing, a bitter laugh falling from his lips. “Believe me, if I could have, I would’ve a while ago.”

“You still can,” You mused, coming around and leaning on the desk’s edge, looking down at him. “It’s getting close to a decent hour for bed. Should we turn in early, tonight?”

“Gods, I wish I could. You have no idea how bad I want to.” He sighed again, rubbing his hands over his face. You frowned, arms crossed.

“You can. You’re the king. You’re allowed to take some time away from your paperwork to get a good night’s sleep, for once.”

“It’s true, but I don’t think it’s so simple. There’s just…too many pieces moving at the same time, and somehow I’m expected to keep everything together and under control. It’s impossible, having everybody pull at me in every direction.”

“I would say I can’t imagine, but I am in a similar station as you.”

“That’s true, isn’t it.” He sighed, his head back against the chair. His eyes were closed; as though he were moments from sleep. “I feel bad you’ve been dragged into this. To think I’d shackle you with all this desk work as payment for all you’ve done.”

“I agreed to it, didn’t I? Through good times and bad,” You reminded him with a soft smile, reaching for his hand. Chrom squeezed it tightly, while you lazily swung your arm back and forth. “We can get through this, together. But we should at least try to do it together, you know?”

“Sort of…” He peeked an eye open.

“We should try and go to sleep together, for the first time in a month.”

“Has it really been a month?” He sounded so incredulous, you couldn’t help but laugh. “But I still manage to get back to bed every night!”

“Yes, but…it’s a little different when you’re somehow getting to bed long after me, and then getting up before I have a chance to see you off.”

“Huh.” He looked sheepish, “Sorry. I didn’t think about that.”

“So how about we take an early night and get to bed? You really look like you need a good night’s sleep, love. No offense.”

“None taken.” He groaned, sitting forward. Gently, you placed yourself between him and the desk, letting him rest his head just below your chest. He sank into your touch almost instantly.

The sheer weight of him against you pressed you into the desk, but you knew he was beyond tired. He was leaning into you because he probably would’ve fallen over if you weren’t there.

“Chrom…I’m sorry you’re dealing with so much. It’s not fair that you have to struggle with all this royalty nonsense after everything you’ve been through. I wish I could take it all off your shoulders.” You murmured, stroking his hair.

His arms came loosely around you. “It is what it is. I knew it would probably happen some day. Maybe it wouldn’t be so hard if I’d paid closer attention to Frederick’s etiquette and clerical lessons….”

“At least you got lessons. Poor man’s been trying to teach me and get me to do the proper work at the same time.” You grumbled, and Chrom chuckled.

“That sounds like Hell.”

“It is.”

“...I miss you.” He spoke softly, as though it wasn’t meant to be said. But you nodded, giving him a small squeeze.

“I’ve missed you, too. That’s why I came all the way over here, tonight.”

“I don’t understand why our offices are on complete opposite ends of this place. I guess Mother really did hate our father that much. I can’t blame her, but….I don’t harbor the same feelings. Why can’t we just have our desks in the same room?”

“Well, you’re the Exalt. I’m sure if you really wanted to do that, they wouldn’t be able to stop you.” You reminded him, and he paused, as though it hadn’t occurred to him.

“Do you…should we do that?”

“If you want to, I wouldn’t mind it. At least I’d get to see your face more often, you know?”

“You think Frederick will let us?”

“He’s not the Exalt, dear.”

“I guess I can overrule him, can’t I.” Chrom smiled, leaning back to look up at you. “Maybe…we ought to go to bed early. It would be nice to actually fall asleep together.”

Chrom let you pull him up from his seat, holding onto both your hands. You were close enough that your chests were touching, and that tender affection in his gaze returned beneath the exhaustion.

He was awfully happy to see you.

“I do like the idea of going to bed early…but we don’t necessarily have to sleep, yet.”

Chrom blushed.

“No?”

“I mean, it’s been a month since we’ve done anything at all, you know?”

“Yeah.” Chrom swallowed thickly, recognizing that look in your eyes. You grinned at him, tugging him along. “W-whoa, wait a second!”

“Do you really want to wait?”

“N-no, I mean- well, maybe we shouldn’t look so-”

“Come on, love.” You laughed, a bright and sweet sound. Chrom’s heart skipped a beat. It was such a lovely thing to hear.

As you rushed down the halls together, he made a mental note to push your offices together immediately.

Well, immediately tomorrow morning. Tonight, all he had on his mind was you.

Something he would do well to remember for many happy nights to come.

✧ Henry

• You two were part of the magic institution that your parents’ ‘lovingly’ enrolled you in. It was personal hell for you, the grown-ups always dogging on the kids as if they were worth less than dirt and giving absolute no empathy at all. The magic classes were fine and all but with the abuse going on inside, you could only keep your rage-filled magic within.

• And so you meet Henry, another poor unfortunate soul who he managed to set himself on fire and yet no one bothered to help him (lest they be punished). It was only by the dead of night that you snuck towards his bedside and gave him a small portion of a tangerine.

“It’s the only thing I managed to pilfer.” You said to him softly, in the dead of night. “I... I hope this makes you feel better.”

• If only you knew how far your kindness went. When you awoke to the stench of blood and rotting flesh, it was the white-haired boy who had a tangerine in his (bloody) hand. When he extended it to you, a manic smile was on his face as his eyes closed.

• Your abusers were dead. And as a child, with no other guide in their life, you took the tangerine and bit into it.

• It wasn’t long that you and Henry became travel partners. Well, ‘partners’ is more of an understatement. It felt as though you were the only one who truly understood Henry. You didn’t bat an eye at the mayhem he caused, rather letting him do as he please all the while reeling him in when need be.

• Even when assigned into the Plegian army, you two are always together. At least, always within what Henry wants. Validar himself doesn’t even want to step in between whatever Henry wants in fear of invoking what hidden horrors that Henry hides from the world. If Validar fears going between you and Henry, then it comes as to no surprise that the rest of the Plegian army avoids going between you two.

• Despite the gore that Henry would always surround himself, he would never bring himself to taint you with this mess. After all, you did save him from going hungry that night after all, and he always remembers who he’s indebted to.

• At least that’s what he says. When he grasps your hand a little too warmly just to swing it around as if you two were kids frolicking about a garden of deteriorating Risen bodies, you wonder if the smile on his face was anything but manic glee.

✧ Yuri

• Street rats growing up, you, your family, and Yuri’s mother, were very well-acquainted. After all, rats stick together to see what slim hope of living they have under all of this grime. Resources were scarce but you were surviving.

• You and Yuri, even though you were young, grew too soon too fast as you pilfered money and precious objects from unsuspecting nobles and rich folk and always splitting the money 50/50. At some point it grew to 60/40, with you pushing the 60 towards Yuri because you knew that he and his mother needed it more than you. Normally, Yuri would take it with no qualms but with you, he still insists on the 50/50.

• After all, he would be remiss to take more of the keep from his partner in crime.

• As the years go by, you and Yuri are attached to the hip as practical underground crime lords (at least in the Abyss). Him as the Savage Mockingbird, always getting what he wants, and you as his partner who works with him in his shadow. None would dare to try and outsmart the mockingbird lest they deal with his shadow instead.

• Yuri doesn’t trust anyone, not even the rest of the Ashen Wolves, but to you, there was a smidgen of humanity left within this rat-turned-bird. When he would willingly betray his allies trust on the whim (as long as the end justifies the means), he would never betray your trust. Anyone who even suggest to sacrifice you or use you as bait will be thrown into the deeper bowels of the Abyss.

“I am not one for romantics. But I will not let anyone toy with your life.”

• Even after being exposed in Garreg Mach, he never let’s you out of his sight. He nearly begs Byleth to make sure you and him were always in the same classes and making sure you two were fighting in the same battalions. Other students wondered if there was something else beyond your “childhood friendship” because of how... for a lack of a better word, fruity, behavior that Yuri shows to you but they could never get a straight answer from him.

• Let them talk, he thinks to himself as he counts you and your pilfered treasures (hey, old habits die hard). After all, you were far more important to be kept in a notebook. He’s kept your name in a scrap of paper, inside a locket, tucked closely beneath his clothes and close to his heart.

Thinking about Corrin after the war. Leads Valla for several years in a very successful campaign- too successful, even, because no one seems to want her out of leadership any time soon, and she's in excellent health in her age. Why she's pushing 60 and looks 30. She's outlasted her husband, the kids have, too. They outlive advisors, some wonder if they're even needed. The crown passes as she just wants to retire, her dragon blood makes her death look a long way off and there's still so much world to see.

Corrin who wanders the galleries and speaks softly with conservationists when they're having trouble repairing her nephew forrest's now long faded and fraying gown, or weaponry forged during the war, talks about the materials used in shigure's paintings. Who stands in front of portraits of the kings and queens of Nohr and Hoshido who finally set aside their differences and found peace with a wistful look, feeling like it was just yesterday. Who talks with her children about ages past over tea, dotes on the descendants of Nohr and Hoshido (particularly when they remind her of her siblings).

There is no more monarchy of Valla, the people suggested a new idea where they voted for their leaders and representatives, and it was too lovely an idea to refuse. Corrin looks barely older than the faded, sepia-toned photograph in the history books, laughing and smiling as the camera's earliest subject alongside the first king of her new kingdom. She kindly writes to historians as a primary source on the war and her reign.

She wonders how old she's going to get. How old her children will be.

Lilith says dragons live a long time.

She's not sure how long.

Let’s talk how about Chrom and Robin’s bond evolved over time

With everyone clamoring over the new emblem I wanted to take a look back how we got here with their relationship and why I think at this point Chrobin is the intended or inferred Chrom pairing when it didn’t used to be.

In 2012 we got Fire Emblem Awakening, and as Chrom was related to Marth, his inferred pairing was Sumia a pegasus knight as a nod to Caeda, Marth’s canon wife. Granted because part of Awakening’s charm is you could pair anyone up, you didn’t have to pair Chrom up with Sumia if you didn’t wish to. But to IS she was the intended choice.

She had special scenes with Chrom and was the most likely to end up paired with him if you weren’t gunning for a specific wife for him

And you see her here in the opening with Lucina

Robin is you, the avatar, they don’t even have official art, just them with a hood

They had a canon design what we all know now but it wasn’t really used. And that should have been it as far as IS was concerned. Awakening was their last hurrah. And then FE blew up.

Robin’s canon design is now getting used, both the male and female version are now in Smash Bros. Then we have Warriors and Heroes and the Awakening cast shows up more. But not Sumia. Perhaps it’s because she’s not popular or the people flocked to Cordelia instead but she is the pegusus knight everyone loves. Sumia isn’t even in Warriors or the base FEH she gets added much later to FEH only with other less popular Awakening characters.

It’s here when FE became more maintstream I believe that IS changed their tune on Sumia being the intended wife and retconed it. I fully think Sumia was dropped and they no longer had an intended pairing for him all because she just wasn’t popular. Him and Robin were close of course they always were, obviously some would see it as friendship others would see it as something more the usual nothing really changed there.

And then 2022 ten full years after Awakening’s release...this happened

Couple things here. I fully believe the reason Chrom was paired with MRobin here instead of FRobin is for two big reasons reasons.

1) If they paired him with FRobin it canonizes a pairing so MRobin is the safer option, FEH doesn’t usually pair men and women unless they’re already a pairing. So MRobin got paired with Chrom and FRobin was on her own but she still has lines about how much Chrom meant to her.

2) MRobin is the more popular Robin as has been shown every year in CYL and he’d even win next year

So Chrom and Robin were always close it was a no brainer to make them a duo unit, they picked the male version on a very family oriented banner.

That said some of these lines...well let’s just say if a man and a woman were saying that to each other there would be no doubt here. Imagine if this Robin was the female version

Robin: There's Lissa, Emmeryn, Lucina, Frederick... I think we've got gifts for everyone. Don't we? Chrom: Well, all but one. What would you like your gift to be, Robin? Robin: What? Me? You can't just come out and ask like that, you know. There are rules! Chrom: You know I don't care about that. Just tell me what you want. Robin: Truthfully...I can't think of anything. Chrom: You don't want anything? Aw, come on. Think of the bind that puts me in. Robin: You gave my life meaning when I had nothing—not even my memory. The sense of purpose I've found at your side, working for peace in the world, is all I could ever ask for. Chrom: You're not alone in that, you know. I feel the same way. That's why I wanted to give you something nice. To show you how I feel. Robin: All right, all right. In that case, why don't you give me one of those flowers you're wearing? Chrom: It's only going to wilt. Robin: I'll press it into one of my books. That way I'll never forget this Day of Devotion.

Snippet from their duo convo. Usually when someone gives flowers it’s considered a pretty romantic gesture I’ve heard plenty of people call this alt playfully the gays and yeah this is very strong.

FRobin even comments on them in one of her lines.

“That man with Chrom is a Robin from another world, right? They get along so well, I'm almost jealous...“

There was no need for that line at all, we can tell from their lines how flipping close they are but they felt the need to have another character comment on it in base lines

I do believe MRobin was used not to canonize a pairing...at first. And then they gave up because it looked like people really liked it going even further in the next year.

In Awakening Chrom and Robin refer to themselves as two halves of the same whole which is already a loaded term. But it’s never been used after and was just part of the game

Enter the next time they pair up as the Emblem of Bonds which brought that back for the first time since 2012, in full force

Correct me if I’m wrong but no one besides them have referred to each other as their other half in Awakening

Lucina does it in Engage. For reference other half means husband, wife or partner (romantic). I think after the Valentine’s alt they decided sure why not and now they’re really going in with Robin being Chrom’s other half when they only touched the term once past Awakening in a FRobin cipher card. Other half in Engage is Robin and he pops up when engaged with Chrom to mix magic with the attack. I don’t doubt you can mean a friend with this term but when paired with everything else they say to each other, it’s pretty strong evidence it’s further than friendship.

Okay now for the the ultimate Robin is now Chrom’s intended partner view, Legendary Robin also released this year

“Tactician of Ylisse. Celebrated as Exalt Chrom's other half in the legends that followed their exploits. Appears in Fire Emblem Awakening. “

I saw some people argue exalt could mean Lucina too but no it doesn’t, it clearly means Chorm it says so and if you didn’t believe that, we got a map that was the two called Chrom and his other half. Which is Robin.

His art also references his other half status, he now wears blueish green jewelry which stands for Chrom and the brand of the exalt is on his chest plate

Finally in his damage art he once again has the symbol of the exalt formed in magic.

And a ring, some have argued it’s his clothes but usually the magic gauntlets he wears are on his middle finger and not under his gloves; pretty sure it’s a ring, it’s even on the ring finger of his left hand, where you generally put a wedding ring.

All this together is some very strong evidence, but put it with everything else they’ve done since last year and it’s clear to me, IS now is pushing Chrom and Robin as the intended pairing. Not canon like Marth and Caeda or Alm and Celica, but intended like they do with Eliwood and Ninian and some others I’m probably forgetting. And because MRobin is who they use and their “canon” sort of like FCorrin is the “canon” Corrin, IS is strongly hinting at MChrobin

Which fascinates me, we went from Chrom with a intended implied wife to scrapping it and pretended it never happened to this, Chrom with an intended husband. Him and his best friend, both two guys, very much in love. In ten years IS changed it’s mind on the intended canon pairing that isn’t even possible in the base game. They are a fate defying duo, the emblem of bonds, the exalt and his other half, two halves of the same whole and they are showing that in symbolism harder than ever. I think that’s really cool

To end this I’m aroace and see romance a little differently from the amatonormic norm Chrom and Robin could just be really good friends lord knows I also think friendship should be just as important as romance BUT if they were, it’s very clear they are each others most important person over any wife they might separately have. But even that doesn’t follow a typical heteronormative relationship no? Chrom and Robin’s bonds are so strong they transcend the concept of romance and friendship as we know it, there is no name for the type of love they share it’s beyond us.

But what about Lucina? (and Morgan) In a world with magic, dragons, people dying and coming back to life, time travel and more the idea of two guys somehow having a child is no longer far fetched at all really, or even surrogates exist.

Also they act like kind of like dads with her and it’s really cute

Now granted IS could remake Awakening and MRobin will still not be able to marry Chrom and this whole analysis would have been for naught but I think if they do remake it they’ll add it. Look at how many people have been introduced to them just through Heroes and Engage you don’t think people are going to want to pair up the exalt and his other half in their game?

To sum it up, yes there literally is no heterosexual explanation for where IS has taken this. It wasn’t originally the intended pairing but it sure is now, I don’t think there is any room for denial anymore until we see what they do with a remake.

a silly au where alear gets transported to the fates world OR a self-indulgent reason to draw him in the sky knight class

some design and self-indulgent au thoughts under read more :) (ENGAGE SPOILERS)

i like to imagine this au follows a similar format to the hidden truths DLC w/ the awakening trio, except alear ends up in hoshido randomly HJFKDJ

played around with the idea that alear's appearance would mostly change with anankos' power so he doesn't retain many of his prominent design features (like the dual-tone hair color) and i love the headcanon that other FE games are referenced as legends or stories as well...

so alear having either the blue hair or both red & blue would be a dead giveaway FKDJKDSJH. and since his past as a fell dragon is lesser known, he has the red hair in this au :) though it definitely would freak him out at first especially since his hair was one of the biggest signs that he was divine and having that taken away from him is still... shocking!

he's still a divine dragon tho anankos isnt THAT powerful... guy just has world's strongest hair dye & eye contacts ever

^ alear when he realizes he doesn't have his blue hair anymore

i gave him a little tiny feather hairclip as well in reference to veyle... and his hair is put up in a ponytail to follow the trend of many of the hoshidan men having either long hair or ponytails lol. and the earrings because who can stop me.... im panlear's strongest soldier

You know that moment in FE: Awakening where Robin decides to light an entire naval fleet on fire by rigging their own ships? And it was kinda insane but it somehow managed to work? That is the manic energy in which I imagine Kiran approaches ALL their tactics with. Every battle you can pinpoint the exact moment where Kiran goes “you know what? fuck it” and unleashes some god of death onto the battlefield.

With that perspective, you gotta give credit to Veronica. She’s sees that bullshit and is like “yeah I could punt kick that twink.”

What made you ship it?

Awakening was my first FE game and I was a teenager, I think I initially shipped it because I thought Chrom was cute and funny. They have the jock/nerd dynamic going on. But now I ship it because I'm a sucker for a good tragedy.

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

They're soulmates, they're two sides of the same sword. But Robin is also destine to kill Chrom. I love the idea of soul mates in fiction, individual choice aside, destiny is pushing you to one person, for better or for worse. Especially in a game like fire emblem which deals the themes of choice and decision but what if they don't get a choice in each other? They're Naga and Grima, they're bound together. Romantically or platonically, they're each other's other half. They need each other, they're holding on to each other so tight it leaves bruises. And no matter what, their path lead to each other to their death.

And Lucina and Morgan, my sweet children!! Not only does it make Lucina's past more tragic but they're just so sweet together. Morgan is the annoying carefree little brother who can't remember any of his trauma and Lucina is the big sister who needs to protect his innocence. I totally think Grima got to Morgan in the original timeline and Lucina was holding on to the guilt for years. I imagine she refused to talk about him even when she was reunited with her dad and mom, the memory was just too pain. All the other child units probably knew better than to speak his name. And the relief she felt when they found him, sweet and naive and a child like he once was? A do over on her greatest failure. A second chance to keep him safe. Not only does Lucina get to protect him, but he makes Lucina laugh. He lets her also be a kid.

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

f!chrobin is the same as m!chrobin, y'all are just misogynist >.< "But their support is bett--" I don't care! f!Robin/m!Robin are the same person! Dingus aside!!!
