DAAAYYYYYYYYY
what the hell day is it *does math* Day 355? No, 354. No? *checks* Yeah. 354. Guys I can't count past like 40 without getting lost, this is really hard for me says the accountant XD
ANYWHO, I have done things! And stuff! And I keep adding unnecessary details to this bed, but the more I add to it the more it looks exactly like every bed in every shitty motel/cheap hotel I have ever stayed in and I'm having fun, so do I care that the detail being added is unnecessary? No I do not. Besides, something other than Iggy's shirt needs a fun texture and I don't get to use the wood grain brush very often :P

Used to be a Noctis is 5'7" truther but I just did the 14 crossover again and based on Y'jhimei's height there's no way he's taller than 5'5". Sun catgirls are 5'3.8" MAX and he's barely taller than her. I'll maybe give him 5'6" but there's no way he's 5'9" like official works says. Prompto is like 5'5" tops but looks more 5'4"ish.

Final Fantasy XV - art history meta
a symbol of romanticism: sylleblossom - the blue flower:
final fantasy xv's sylleblossom has a very special design and meaning. Let's talk about what it stands for and how it can be connected to art history.
Tumblr media
More below the cut.
Luna and sylleblossoms
In general, blue sylleblossoms can be seen as a symbol for Luna in ffxv. They grow in Tenebrae and are its national flower, she has a garden full of them. Blue sylleblossoms are her favorite flowers. She gifts Noctis a pressed flower in their notebook and it is a strong visual symbol in her death scene. According to the final fantasy wiki: "Different color variants symbolize different things, but the blue version represents "a heart that does not give up" and "sincerity"." But there might be even more to it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The blue flower and romanticism
The blue flower is considered an important symbol in art history, and especially of romanticism, an art movement of the 19th Century. It represents the romantic longing for the unattainable and unreachable, the infinite and the unconditional, it is also often interpreted as a connection between man and nature. In addition, the Blue Flower developed into a symbol of wandering, which is also characteristic of the Romantic era (and a main theme in ffxv too :) - the word wanderlust got its meaning in the Romantic Period btw). This motif can be traced back to an old German legend that says that one could find the blue miracle flower at night and would be richly rewarded. Consequently, this miracle flower represents a cause that is difficult to achieve, but longed for by many.
Here's a cornflower as an example. I painted a sylleblossom recently and noticed the similar petal shape and color.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The legend
The symbol goes back to a legend and the poet Novalis. The blue flower embodies the longing for an unattainable thing. In the story, a young man dreams about a blue flower that calls to him and he longs to find it. When he finally sees it, he sees a tender face in the flower. This - as is shown in the course of the story - is that of his later fiancé. In addition, the text teems with symbols typical of romanticism. In romantic works, threshold motifs are often used, i.e. motifs that mark a boundary between reality and the dreamlike, such as twilight, moonlight, or the view into the distance, which is usually carried by an enormous longing of the protagonist.
Noctis and Luna
When we look at Noctis and Luna's relationship, we can find a lot of these motifs. The longing, the wandering and looking into the distance. Luna seems always out of reach but they long to be together. We see Noctis looking at the moon in old previews and when Luna says farewell she tells him to "look to the distance, know that I am there". Even their names represent typical romantic symbols (night and moon).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Night and moon are also typical subjects in romanticism. I really like the similarities here between the official artwork of the ffxv piano collection and the painting by C.D. Friedrich.
Luna's death
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's a screenshot of the dreamlike death sequence and another painting by C.D. Friedrich, who is one of the most recognizable Romantic painters.
One more interesting thing I'd like to point out is the topic of death in romantic paintings and Luna's death scene. I think it's interesting that you can see ruins and a gate behind Luna. It looks like Tenebrae or maybe Altissia but the gate behind her stands out. In romantic artworks, ruins can stand for the past and especially gates represent the transition into the afterlife. We can find several threshold motifs in this scene. In ffxv, it might show that Luna and Noct are inbetween the world of the living and the dead in that moment. Luna then goes into the afterlife (in the direction of the gate) while Noctis is pulled back into life.
The flower turns into the ring, which shows us that her calling has been fulfilled.
I'm not sure if the references about the romantic movement in ffxv were intentional or not, but in any case it was fun to think about it :). I hope you enjoyed this short meta analysis and look into some art history :)

@xiiiwayfinders exactly, you get it!
the relationship between Ignis & Noctis was specifically written to be platonic, it's confirmed in the Official Works. and they are wonderful brothers 😊💜
not to mention, it's a common misunderstanding that Noctis and Ignis were merely childhood friends, when in actuality they lived together from the time they were 4 and 6. they were basically adopted siblings, sharing a home and being treated like family members.
also, as i've pointed out before, Ignis was trained for his entire life to protect Noct and was even taken from his own parents to accomplish this...after the fall of Insomnia, Noct is the only family he has left.
between that and the protective instinct that's been ingrained in him since childhood, of course Ignis would make emotionally rash decisions and be willing to sacrifice everything for Noct.
also also, the parallels that get highlighted in Episode Ignis! when Ravus and Ignis end up bonding because of the pain they share over the fates of their siblings. and Ardyn's specific hatred towards Ignis, probably because his own brother betrayed him, and here's Ignis doing the exact opposite for Noct.
i just really feel like the platonic relationship between Ignis & Noctis is not only deeper than any romantic one the story could have told, but also fits the theme of brotherhood perfectly, which is the core of FFXV to begin with.
i love them, your honor 😌💜

LAST SONG: Blest Be The Moonlight - FFXV (damn who am I?)
CURRENTLY WATCHING PLAYING: Persona 3 Reload
THREE SHIPS: I was going to do regular ships but everyone's doing wolships. Weeeell.
🔷 Zidane / Garnet (FF9): It's the Casanova in love. It's the star-crossed lovers. It's the princess and the pauper. No matter how unreasonable or sad Garnet becomes during their journey Zidane is never cross with her-- or anyone for that matter. He's always uplifting, always teaching, always helping. When they're separated and he spends his days pining for her because he never realized what he had until it was gone?? Peak writing. 🔷 Akihiko / Mitsuru (Persona 3): It's the loyalty. It's the elemental symbolism (he's weak to ice, her element). He's the queen's guard dog. She gave him a reason to live. They're both social inept. They bicker like they've been married for 10 years. If they actually dated the miscommunications would be insane and I would love to watch them. 🔷 Tunasan: It's... also the Casanova in love. They're tank/healer. They're sun & moon. He's a cat that only comes around when he needs comfort. He's a pain in her ass. The belligerent sexual tension is off the charts and they can't even physically kiss. She comes from high-class society and he's the physical manifestation of all the values she hates most (adultery, drinking in excess, a smooth talker with no substance). But oooh he's so much more, isn't he? He's so kind and so vulnerable in their quiet moments. He trusts her with his life. He would die for her if given the chance. And he's devastatingly pretty when she finally stops to look. They'll never be together in an official capacity because (headcanon) dating within the Scions is frowned upon (they're co-workers) but that doesn't stop The Yearning from both sides-- the stolen moments-- the skulking about to avoid Y'shtola's ire (lmao). And when he realizes he truly fell for her? That it wasn't just a phase, or fling? Well, time to run.
FAVORITE COLOR: Ourple 💜
CURRENTLY CONSUMING: Coffee and cup noodle-- breakfast of champions.
FIRST SHIP: Kurogane and Tomoyo from Tsubasa lmao. My middle-school ass picking the rarepair het ship in The Yaoi Zone is still very funny to me.
PLACE OF BIRTH: NA
CURRENT LOCATION: Hell.
RELATIONSHIP STATUS: 3 years of dating a gremlin.
LAST MOVIE: Solaris? The 2003 remake? I think?
CURRENTLY WORKING ON: Commissions, a drabble for a photoset I took last night because nothing is simple for me, and still sitting on my 500 WIPs of Tsuna snippets from various points in her life 🙈
Tagged by: @myreia thank you 😭 Tagging: take it from me.

Ok, FFXV Tumblr, Question time!
Re. the "Help me mother Ignis" character switch line from Prompto to Ignis, I'm curious as to whether there are different in different versions of this line by region (Australia here, so PS4 region 4), are there multiple versions of this line in English, or is it just the translation in Official Works that's different? If it that there are different versions by region then I'm curious about what other lines might have similar variations, especially knowing some English translations of lines vary quite a bit from the Japanese version.
I've attached the quote as per Official Works & the clip is from my own gameplay

This request was sent to me by @amarabliss
I loved this concept and I ran with it! This is my longest prompt for @badthingshappenbingo so far
This story is canon in my FFXV fic - Guard and Glaive
This story is set just after Prince Noctis is born so the Kingsglaive hasn’t been officially established, so Drautos is a member of the Royal Guard, one of King Regis’ personal guards
Hope you like it ☺️💙
Taken Off Duty
Titus’ eyes flickered open, it took him a moment to realise he was slumped forward in a chair, the more he woke up, the more his situation was becoming apparent; his hands were tied behind his back and his ankles were tied to the front legs of the chair. He was still wearing his Royal Guard Uniform which reminded him what he was doing before this, he was walking to work from his apartment, he was supposed to be on guard duty in the throne room today. How much time has passed? Would they even notice I wasn’t there?
Titus looked around, now that he was aware of his situation, he began working out where he was. He was in a dimly lit room with dark and grimy walls, a single door to his left, which was made of metal. In the far distance he could hear the sound of machinery and construction work, which made him think he was in one of the old industrial factories by the river, on the eastern wall of Insomnia. So, I’m at least 2 hours late for duty, maybe more, given the traffic, his thoughts were disturbed when the metal door screeched open, the grating noise of metal scraping on the concrete floor made Titus wince and he only just heard the 2 men enter the room, once the door was shut and the room fell into silence once again Titus looked over his left shoulder at the 2 men; they were both older than him, and they were both glaring at him.
“You just going to stand there or what?” Titus huffed, one man moved, walking around to face Titus, the man was massive, tall and built completely of muscle, Titus looked over his right shoulder to the other man. “Well, this guy’s the braun, so you’re the brains I take it?” What he could see of the man, Titus could see he was at least half the size of the man in front of him.
“You’re a member of the King’s personal guard” the thinner man said
“Did the uniform give it away?” Titus quipped, his quick remark earned him a backhand across the face. Titus ran his tongue along the inside of his cheek, tasting blood coming from a small cut there, the thinner man walked around to join his friend.
“The King, how many are in his personal guard?”
“One less at the moment” Titus huffed, earning another backhand
“Keep your smart comments to yourself!” The thin man snapped “how many men guard the King?”
“I don’t know” Titus said “I’m not there everyday, I’m just a Sergeant, I don’t get told who else guards the King, that’s the Lord Shield’s job” Titus tried to pull his hands loose but the rope that bound his wrists was tight.
“You mean to tell me that you, a close friend of the King, Lord Shield and the Marshal, don’t know any of the guard numbers or rotations?”
“None, sorry to disappoint you” Titus attempted a shrug but not much happened because of how tight his wrists were bound, the thinner man looked livid, Titus just gave him a smile, which angered him further
“Kill him” Titus’ eyes widened as the thinner man stepped back, the muscular man smirked and stepped up, slipping a knuckle duster onto his hand as he approached.
Titus’ head was spinning, he didn’t know how much time had passed, but what he did know, was that he was still tied to the chair, he could feel blood dripping from his mouth, and hands of his shoulders. He could also hear voices, but he couldn’t make out the words. A hand moved from his shoulder to his cheek, guiding him to look up, into familiar icy blue eyes, full of concern as they looked Titus over.
“Cor…” Titus mumbled, Cor’s eyes brightened for a moment as he met Titus’ eyes
“We don’t want to cause you anymore pain, Titus,” Cor explained slowly “so we’re waiting for a medic to cut the rope off your wrists, you’ll be free soon, I promise” Titus leant forward, letting out a long breath that made him hiss in pain, Cor shifted slightly so Titus could lean his head on Cor’s shoulder
“How did you find me?”
“The tracker in your coat pocket, the idiots didn’t bother searching you” Titus attempted to laugh but it came out as more of a wheeze which caused him to cough, he felt Cor put his hand on his back “hey, take it easy” Titus pushed himself back so he was sitting upright, wincing at the movement.
“You’re not going to tell anyone you rescued me from a pair of incompetent idiots are you?”
“Oh, I’m going to tell everyone” Cor smirked for a moment before his smile softened, “you know I won’t, the other guards can see how beat up you are, I don’t need to tell them anything else” Cor looked at Titus for a moment in silence before talking again. “You always manage to get yourself into trouble, don’t you?” He added, his tone was affectionate. Titus smiled
“I don’t do it on purpose”
“I’d be worried if you did…” Cor laughed, but then his smile faded and he looked serious. “When Clarus told me you hadn’t turned up, I was… I was worried”
“Sorry”
The medic turned up shortly after and carefully cut the rope away from Titus’ wrists, once free Cor helped him stand up
“He really shouldn’t be standing up Marshal” the medic said, Cor put Titus’ arm over his shoulder
“The only way you’ll get Sergeant Drautos on a gurney is if he’s unconscious, he’s a stubborn fool like that” Cor explained
“Thanks” Titus huffed, he saw a smile return to Cor’s lips as he let himself be led out of the warehouse by Cor.

Hello Final Fantasy XV Fandom!
Hey there,
My name is JJ, I'm an actor and writer, currently working on an extensive FFXV AU fan fiction. I've been a part of the fandom since the game came out but I never really got into the fan content side of it so much until recently because I realized how sad I am that there's no more official content now that Square has moved on to XVI (no hate to XVI, just haven't played it and probably won't get to for a while!)
I've been dealing with depression and turned to FFXV to help deal, despite not having any official ways to play the game. I have no game systems and my computer won't support Windows Edition (and I just can't with Pocket Edition).
I'm a huge, huge, huge fan of the game, the story, the characters (despite the way that it absolutely hurts my feelings) and I decided recently, to help pull me through my own depression to use my Creative Writing college degree as a way to help me engage with the characters.
My OC's name is Prince Zephyr Lucis Caelum. He is Noctis's younger brother by two years, being eighteen when he's sent on the road with his older brother and their friends.
I've done and am doing a lot of work to make him feel real, flawed, imperfect, to give him struggles and a plot of his own that is both independent of Noctis's and compliments it as well. I really enjoy writing interactions with him with all of his friends!
I'm still very much in the Brotherhood era of telling his story because I'm working on developing his backstory right now but I'm planning on eventually moving on to injecting him into the main plot of the game as well.
My first two fics in his story, Free as the Wind and The Founder's Day Ball, are both available on Ao3 or the links in my bio and I'll start posting updates here as well! I'd love it if anyone out there would give them a read!
Also, if anyone wants to beta read or draw some artwork for my stories as well, I would so so so love that too!
I'm just looking for some support from our fandom! Thank you!

"What we are is but a choice" - a Final Fantasy XV fanfiction
Written for Vol. 3 of Zibe Time, a multifandom/original works, anything-goes zine! This run's theme was Pride. Every participant was assigned a colour of the original Gilbert Baker Pride flag and did their piece according to the meaning of their colour in the context of the Pride flag. I was assigned the colour red which stands for life.
You can download the zine for free here, and its official Twitter is here. And here, you can find all volumes of the zine that have been published thus far.

Ignis is 13 when he comes out to his uncle.
He never has a grand revelation about his sexuality. It’s something that just is, something he’s been all his life and thus has never given much thought.
That is until puberty hits and he starts to actually become aware of boys in a more tangible way.
Of course, between the distinct lack of boys his age at the citadel, where he spends most of his day, and his very full schedule, nothing much comes of it. But it does make him think that this is something he should perhaps tell his uncle. Unlike for Gladio or Noct, eventually, there isn’t pressure for him to get married and produce an heir, but Ignis isn’t sure if it’s something that might cause problems for him later down the line.
He’s nervous when he asks his uncle to have a talk one late night when they’re sharing a meal Ignis cooked. It’s rare for them to be home at the same time, and even rarer for the both of them to have enough downtime to slow down and have a conversation, so Ignis snatches the opportunity with both hands and pushes on, despite the fact that his heart is beating uncomfortably fast in his chest.
Ignis doesn’t even know why he’s nervous. His uncle is a kind man, beneath the stiff and formal exterior Ignis has long adopted himself. His uncle is also the black sheep of their family, on account of having never married and favouring a busy life with few close relationships. There’s no way he’s going to reject Ignis for something as mundane as his sexual orientation.
And yet.
“What did you want to talk about?” his uncle asks, once they’ve finished their meal and Ignis has run out of dishes to wash. There’s no way his uncle didn’t pick up on the obvious stalling, but mercifully, he doesn’t mention it.
Ignis brings two cups of tea to the coffee table in the living room. His hands are shaking ever so slightly, but his uncle ignores that too and makes his way over to his armchair.
There’s no reason to drag this out any further or try to talk around the issue, Ignis knows, so he wraps both hands around the mug to keep them from trembling, takes a deep breath, and dives headfirst into the conversation.
“Uncle, I’m gay. It’s something I’ve always been aware of, I suppose, but I felt you ought to know, too.”
He fights the urge to look away, instead holding his uncle’s gaze for the few uncomfortable seconds it takes the man to start talking.
“Well, that’s—no offense, Ignis, but that’s something I’ve known for a long time, too,” his uncle says, not unkindly.
Whatever Ignis expected to hear, this certainly isn’t it.
A small, strangled noise is all Ignis manages, all his usual eloquence going right out the window.
“Am I really that obvious?!”
His uncle offers him a small smile and leans forward a bit, fixing Ignis with his gaze.
“Perhaps a bit. But keep in mind, I’ve known you since you were a child. Also, I daresay I’m simply a tad more observant than most people, wouldn’t you agree? I don’t believe you have a reason to worry.”
Ignis nods, feeling slightly light-headed.
“And… you don’t mind?”
His voice sounds smaller than intended, embarrassingly fragile even to his own ears. It’s clear his uncle has also picked up on it, judging from his little frown and the way his face grows serious.
“Of course not, Ignis, did you expect me to?”
Thankfully, Ignis doesn’t have to answer that because his uncle continues almost immediately.
“I simply want you to be happy, my dear boy. However that happiness may look.”
And, oh, that catches Ignis by surprise, coming from a man who so rarely shares his true feelings and has never been overly affectionate even when Ignis was a child.
His eyes sting a little, but he nods, not quite trusting his voice with words just yet.
“I just ask that you be careful,” his uncle sighs. “The Citadel is still full of old people with outdated worldviews, and if the wrong person gets an impression of you that they deem unacceptable, they may make your life miserable for it. You’d do well to keep your private life as much under wraps as you do the Prince’s.”
Ignis nods again, not really surprised. He doesn’t expect anything else, has already seen enough of the more conservative councilmembers and the way they treat anyone who doesn't fit into their narrow-minded ideals.
“Of course. It won’t cause any issues. I’ll make sure of it.”
----
Ignis is 17 when he falls in love for the first time.
True to his words, the people at the Citadel remain clueless about his love life. Certainly, there are a few rumors about his sexuality here and there because he never shows any interest in any woman apart from the expected polite exchanges, but he’s never seen showing interest in anyone who would confirm their suspicions, either. Ignis, after all, has grown up with the concept of discretion being drilled into his head due to his proximity to the Prince.
He comes out to Gladio, eventually, and then to Noct too, but as expected, neither of them particularly cares and life continues much in the same fashion until Ignis is 17.
What changes at 17 is that one night at a social gathering, Ignis is approached by a young man as briefly steps out on the balcony for some fresh air.
The man introduces himself as Sebastian, and Ignis recognises him as the son of a councilmember. Their similarity is striking, but the same features that make the father appear unapproachable, detached and consistently constipated look enticing enough on the son’s face that Ignis is intrigued.
They exchange numbers and a promise to be in touch, both knowing that they cannot risk anything at an event like this.
When Ignis gets home that night, there is a message already waiting for him, and then he falls asleep way later than he should because Sebastian keeps texting him and Ignis cannot bring himself to cut their conversation short.
They communicate mostly through text for a few weeks until Sebastian officially asks him to be his boyfriend, and Ignis feels stupid with excitement and giddiness when he texts back “Yes” with shaky fingers.
And for more than a year, Ignis is happy, happier than he ever remembers being. He’s been content before, certainly, but there is something about the way Sebastian makes his heart flutter that makes him realise how far removed his experiences are from those of a normal teenager. It’s his honour and his greatest pride, of course, to stand tall beside Noctis until the boy grows into a King who sits the throne.
And yet, the terrifyingly thrilling new experience of a romantic relationship unlocks a secret longing in him, a desire to get a taste of what being young feels like.
Still, that’s all just silly, pointless thinking, so Ignis brushes it aside and focuses on his relationship with Sebastian.
It’s safe to say Ignis is in love, and even though he wishes they didn’t have to keep meeting in secret, he’s glad Sebastian understands the societal pressure that comes with their status and never pushes him to make their relationship public.

Was nobody going to tell me there's a confirmed age for Aranea?? Why am I only finding about this now? 😂
I remember devs being so secretive of her age, "she is in her last twenties" or something along those lines, but never gave us a number...
Oh well, time to update the ages timeline!

Like there is so much, wrong feels like too big of a word, but wrong or kinda bad about Final Fantasy XV. Like it is a kinda glitchy mess that doesnt run great on PS4. It has plotholes. It's story is spread out over a game, a movie and multiple dlcs. Also a book for some extra stuff and alternate timeline. I honestly didnt even vibe with the gameplay that much (but that is just me personally not liking the dungeons)
And yet
Just from watching the Altissia part of the game I am once again a mess over this game. Because despite all its issues this game makes me care about its characters so much. This game has great characters with great voice actors even if the writing sells them short sometimes.
Like when I went to the Distant Worlds concert with my friend who knows nothing about Final Fantasy at all his response to my ffxv fangirling was him asking if it was like the very best one in the series. And like. No. Hell no, it isnt. But that doesnt mean I dont love it to pieces
In short: you can take this game (and my Kingsglaive Bluray and my Official Works book and my Dawn of the Future book and my CD box of the soundtrack) from my cold dead hands

Do you think the the black box contents were originally supposed to be revealed in KH3? Do you see a place it would have fit into the story? I thought maybe as a way to defeat the darknesses in their final form since that would be a reason for MoM to want it available in the future. Like if it was pandora's box and now the darkness has to go back inside.
Do you think the black box contents were originally supposed to be revealed in KH3?
Yes, I do. There was an interview with Nomura (Famitsu January 2017) that implied that, too. Here is an excerpt:
Famitsu: The Master appears to be quite the important character, will we find out the reason for his disappearance in [KHIII]?
Nomura: Some of the story developments from [KHxBC] will be touched upon in some way or shape in [KHIII], but the Master won’t make an appearance. As for his “surprise” on the other hand…
Famitsu: By that are you talking about the box that the Master called a “Suprii~se!” and entrusted to Luxu along with the Keyblade? There was also something written on it…
Nomura: The perceptive fan may have already worked it out but, it still remains a secret. In [KHIII], a certain person is looking for that box…
Famitsu: So the box’s contents will be revealed in [KHIII]…
At the time KH Back Cover was released, I think we were supposed to learn what the big "surprise" was inside the black box in KH3, but the story was changed later on. Like with FFXV, the development of KH3 seemed to be a mess and the story was constantly being rewritten late into development.
After reading the Character Files book, I believe there are enough clues to ascertain what was inside the black box. Here is an excerpt from the official localization of Xigbar's short story, entitled, "The Fool":
"Now, as for that box, do you want to know why it's gone? You want to ask something? But there are limits to what I can say right now. It's that difference between knowing and understanding. And, of course, there's the possibility of secrets that no one knows, like the contents of the box. You could say it's a surprise."
"Say, if someone told you the world would end tomorrow, what would you do? Would you think there's nothing you can do about it, or would you try to do something about it? Remember what I said about that black box. No one knows what shade of black it is."
The card that Luxord gives to Sora is the wild card. In the tarot, this is The Fool arcana. In the tarot, The Fool can be placed either at the beginning of the Major Arcana or at the end. It represents new beginnings and is the number 0. It is empty, yet signifies infinite possibilities. Because of this, I believe the box WAS EMPTY. Luxord was told that it contains "hope". And figuratively speaking, it does, because there are infinite possibilities about what's inside. IMO, Xigbar knew that it was empty. But Luxord was desperate for a way to change fate, so he used the black box as a way to convince him to join the New Organization XIII.
Do you see a place it would have fit into the story?
Yes, I think it could have fit. Perhaps Xigbar, bereft of all hope of acquiring the Keyblade, realizes that he had been played for a fool. And with nothing left to lose, he would tell Sora and Riku about the empty box before taking his own life. (Yes, I think Xigbar was actually supposed to die during that scene and his role in the story was done). That is one possibility. Or it could have been shown in a flashback.
At the very least, narratively, I absolutely think it would have made the most sense for the box's contents to be revealed in KH3, and here's why. The box was a red herring. Sora is actually "The Fool". He was the child of destiny, able to change fate, even when the Book of Prophecies had predicted Light would expire.
I thought maybe as a way to defeat the darknesses in their final form since that would be a reason for MoM to want it available in the future. Like if it was pandora's box and now the darkness has to go back inside.
I think that is the right idea. The black box was definitely meant to be a parallel to Pandora's Box. In the myth, all the evils of the world had been let out into the world and all that was left inside the Pandora's Box was hope.
On the black box was written "Xsuper". Superbia=Pride, the deadliest sin/darkness. IMO, the ending of KH3 was meant to convey a certain idea. Eraqus was sure he had won when he confronted Xehanort with the words:
"There’s more to light than meets the eye. As I told you."
It was a reference to the chess game from their childhood where Eraqus told him:
"There’s more to light than meets the eye. You might be surprised".
Eraqus beat him at their chess game, and Xehanort admitted defeat. He told Eraqus that when the world needed a defender, it would choose him. Xehanort probably thought that Eraqus was the child of prophecy. And child Eraqus acts surprised. Now, consider this exchange between Sora and Xehanort:
"The world needs someone to stand up and lead. Someone strong to stop the weak from polluting the world with their endless darkness. Someone to dictate their destiny."
"If so…you’re not that person, Xehanort. A real leader knows destiny is beyond his control…and accepts that."
"You…make me think of an old friend."
How did Sora react when he realized destiny was beyond his control?
"Without them… I… All my strength came from them. They gave me all of it. Alone, I’m worthless. We’ve lost… It’s over."
He GAVE UP!
"What do you think the power of waking is? It’s for traversing hearts to reach worlds. Not for traversing worlds to reach hearts. There’s a high price to pay for wielding such power foolishly."
Objectively speaking, Sora was A FOOL! Vexen's short story really drives this idea home.
The popular idea in the fandom is that Xehanort surrendered because he had been backed into a corner and had no choice but to admit defeat. I disagree. Xehanort had won. He chose to give the X-blade to Sora because he was able to admit defeat. Sora gave Xehanort more hope than Kingdom hearts did. He genuinely believed that Sora deserved to be the world's defender more than himself, because Sora was the person Eraqus was as a child. This action humiliates Eraqus, who then goes on to say:
"Terra, Aqua, Ven. Forgive your foolish teacher."
There's that "Fool" symbolism again.
"The world began in darkness. And from that darkness came light. From the light came the people, and the people had hearts. Evil burgeoned in those hearts, begetting more darkness. And that darkness spread across the world like a plague. The light, the symbol of the world’s hope, was devoured by shadow, leaving nothing but ruin… An utter failure. But the first light—the light of Kingdom Hearts—it can give us a new start. An empty world, pure and bright…"
And here it is again, too. Kingdom Hearts was the world's hope. It is empty, but represents infinite possibilities. It is like the number 0. Just like The Fool. And just like the black box. Ergo, the black box was a key part of KH3's narrative.
Sora would not defeat Xehanort outright; rather he would defeat the pride of Xehanort. A "surprise" ending. I think this idea was not realized because there was too much necessary groundwork for KH3 to cover for this ending to make sense. The stuff with the seven deadly sins/darknesses, the child of destiny, Scala ad Caelum's history, Xehanort's backstory and his relationship with Eraqus, Luxord's backstory and how he knew of the Book of Prophecies, etc.
In August 2016. Nomura said KH3's story was "overwhelmingly big". The KH3 team didn't have time to incorporate all of this plot into the game. I suspect that there was an internal decision at Square-Enix for the KH3 team to just focus on the "bare necessities" like bringing back Roxas and company and to save all of the rest of the main plot for a new story arc. Unfortunately, this left KH3 an unfinished product and not much of a finale.

Out of curiosity, what reason for the War of the Astrals do you prefer? The Solheim betrayed Ifrit, Ifrit lost it, Astrals had to put him down; or the Bahamut tried to wipe out all life to get the Starscourge and the Astrals had to stop *him*? According to the wiki, the 'Official Guide' says that the Starscourge played a part in the War of the Astrals and killed millions, but it doesn't say much more than that.
*vibrates in unholy rage at the many reasons I can think of that the "Bahamut was evil" thing introduced in that book IS STUPID AND DOES NOT THEMATICALLY WORK-*
Ahem. Yes. I have. My own personal backstory for why Ifrit burned Solheim to the ground, but to not go on a spoiler rant for my various AUs: the Solheim betrayed Ifrit, Ifrit lost it, the Astrals had to put him down reason is the only one I will deign to acknowledge in any story or media ever for FFXV. For many reasons. Mostly thematic and story logic ones.

AO3 First Lines Tag Game
Tagged by @oftincturedwords , thanks for the tag!
Rules: Share the first lines of ten of your most recent fanfics and tag ten people. If you have written fewer than ten, don’t be shy and share anyway.
These are all for FFXV.
1. How to Talk to People At Parties
Cor stood at attention, against the wall, wishing this whole ordeal was over. He knew meeting with officials in Lestallum was important to the war effort. He wasn’t an idiot. It wasn’t that long ago that he’d been on the front lines with the rest of the guard, before being recruited for Regis’ retinue. Troops lived and died by their supply lines. He just wished it wasn’t so damn boring.
2. Wreck of the Day
Nyx plopped in Cor’s lap and laced his fingers together behind Cor’s head. His body was buzzing pleasantly with alcohol and well wishes. Cor put his hands on Nyx’s waist to steady him as he leaned in, smile wide. “I love you.”
3. Straight to My Lover's Heart
Nyx tapped his fingers on the bag of coffee beans he was holding, and entertained himself by imagining using a little magic to encourage the line to move a little faster. He wouldn’t, of course, if only because the paperwork would take forever. Almost as long as this line was taking. He was definitely going to be late at this point, which he was blaming on Luche. The bastard swore he couldn’t come himself, and it wouldn’t take that long, Nyx, really, do you want to deal with the Captain uncaffeinated? Why was it his fault the Captain required a specific brand, and how had they run out, anyway? Did he want to know?
4. Earthquake Weather
Cor followed Nyx through the jungle, down a path that he could almost swear hadn’t been there before. He glared suspiciously at his back as they walked, mind half on the setting sun. It’s not that he didn’t appreciate being released from those vines, but he just couldn’t figure out what the man’s deal was. He was entirely too relaxed. He knew who Cor was, at least he claimed to know. Cor didn’t like using his reputation, but he was aware of it, and most people he met were nervous around him. Nyx seemed perfectly at home. Did he come to rescue wayward visitors often?
5. Again and Again
Nyx coughed as he ran down the hallway, clouds of dust filling the air. He ignored the bodies on the floor and the static in his ear. The last communication he’d had before the comms went down was frantic requests for backup at the Crystal chamber. With the chaos, he wasn’t sure who else, if anyone, had heard the call. He’d hoped the Crownsguard could hold the line until backup got there.
6. They Grow Up So Fast
Cor stood to the side, sharp eyes assessing every shift in movement. His form was good, much better than average, though he still needed to put on some more muscle if he wanted to be able to handle the heavier models for any significant length of time. He continued watching as Prompto worked his way through the different targets, using various firearms. Cor knew Prompto was nervous, had talked him through it before starting this assessment, but now that Prompto was moving, his actions were smooth and controlled. If he hadn’t seen Prompto fidgeting earlier, he never would have guessed he was anxious.
7. Long Day
Cor turned on his heel and walked another twelve paces across his living room. Turn, and another twelve paces. A glance at the clock, and another twelve paces. He kept his breathing controlled, in time with his pacing. His fingernails started cutting into his palms, and he made himself loosen his grip. Another half hour and he’d start making phone calls.
8. A Welcome Surprise
Linnea walked down the halls, increasingly amused. Yeah, she was dressed all in black because she didn’t think about her clothes more than absolutely necessary, but her jeans and long sleeve shirt didn’t actually resemble a uniform. And yet, no one had questioned her presence in the halls of the Citadel. She should really talk to someone about their security. Later.
9. Stand Your Ground
Nico rolled his shoulders as they walked down the hallway. Training was over for the week and he was looking forward to dragging his friends out somewhere for drinks. It had been a trying few weeks learning magic, and he was looking forward to going back to more lessons in hand to hand combat. Magic looked cool, but it was harder than he’d expected.
10. Projected Trajectories
Sofia lurked in the hallway outside the lieutenants’ offices, waiting for an opening. She knew she wasn’t as good at casting magic as Theo, who was already reliably casting first level spells in the first week and moving on to the second level. Despite his self-deprecation, she knew he was on track to make into the ranks of the mages. She’d noticed Lieutenant Altius showed up for their last class practicing offensive spells, and she wasn’t there to watch all of them. Theo would be fine.
