I present to you the work of another painter of fish plates. Y’know how you use ‘scare quotes’ for various purposes, including indicating that you’re not actually sure about The Thing?

Well, this guy was so bad at whatever he was painting that we call him…

The ‘tadpole’ painter:

This one was sold as part of the Graham Geddes collection at Bonham’s auction house in 2008 for £2,040.

They describe it as ‘three fish including a wrasse with dorsal spines, an angler-fish, the rounded body with multiple black dots, two large round eyes with pupils, an open mouth with teeth bared, and a ray with pointed face, the body with multiple black dots’.

Which like… bold fucking move missing out the fact that they have legs. Though I can’t say I envy whoever had to write the description.

#first one is:#from ‘Greek red-figure fish-plates by Ian McPhee and A D Trendal #from the Macinagrossa collection in Bari #which I think is a private collection?#Trendall and McPhee refer to him as ‘a very minor artist’.#v rude.#imagine the auctioneer writing the description like ‘sooooo… uh. anyone know what this is supposed to be?’#and a colleague just pointing out the fact that it’s the ‘tadpole’ painter and shrugging apologetically #because it was looted we do not know where it originally came from #(though many were found in tombs)#anyway. my personal head cannon - and I cannot emphasise enough that I have literally no evidence for this. it is just a flight of fancy #is that someone has to bring their child to work for a few days #and just let their kid play around and decorate plates that were write-offs for one reason or another #and some kid just sat their happily painting their crude little fish on these plates whilst their dad worked away #Fischteller #fish plates #tagamemnon

cleo sertori had a fear of swimming since she was a child and nobody considered for a second that getting stranded on a boat in the middle of the sea then falling into a cave system where she had to swim through subterranean water tunnels to the ocean where she had to tread water until a s&r team found them would be traumatic and exacerbate her fear into full aquaphobia

secretly becoming a mermaid helped her get over her fear but to everybody else her being cagey about the pool party and washing the dishes makes 100% sense when they stop for a moment and consider she’s probably terrified

#h2o just add water #cleo sertori #lewis like ‘i don’t know what’s going on with her lately’ bestie you know what’s going on #they were missing for hours #it’s fucking rude that her parents weren’t more supportive like ik it was the 2000s and nobody believed in therapy but it wouldn’t be that #hard to switch cleo from dishwashing to hoovering and bin duty or fucking. yard work. or if it’s about helping out at dinnertime they could #teach her how to cook she could do meal prep #honestly not enough people thought cleo was pretty courageous like she was out there facing her fear everyday #she went through those tunnels she painted her room like the ocean and kept fish she helped emma with her training before the incident on #mako she was trying to overcome her fear every day #also. emma’s parents thinking she had depression and trying to help was A+ parenting but it was also possible that emma was also traumatise #like?? it’s one thing to swim in a pool and be fast it’s another to push against currents while pulling your friend who can’t swim #and the tunnels were long too they almost ran out of air #i think after that her reluctance to swim should make a bit of sense lmao

okay i need to know if anyone else has been devastated by a creature having different defining features in dungeon meshi than like childhood stories

bc i adore this series (i am showing So Much restraint not reading the manga and watching it with my family as it comes out) but the kelpie my beloved

her hooves were not backwards and its killing me (kelpies were the closest i got to being a horse girl as a kid)

the seaweed is very nice and accurate (i say this as if ive seen a kelpie (not the dog) in real life) relating to the stories where the kelpie is made of seaweed or the shifter stories where it becomes a handsome young man with an unsettling amount of seaweed or sand in his hair

and the tail is a very cool nod towards it being a sea (limnistic? is that a word? relating to rivers and lakes) creature but the defining traits are that shes got backwards hooves and shes probably sticky when you pat her

like ik itd probably be hard to animate backwards hooves but aaaaa (expression of misapplied and disproportionate injustice and disappointment)

look at how fancy they are (((right picture from ben-the-hyena here on tumblr they did a whole series of drawings of mythological horses as carousels and its so pretty))) (image on the left is described as a nykur which to my knowledge is a similar icelandic water spirit )

((also vaguely disappointed she didnt try to get the others on her back to show off her cool elongation abilities for maximum snack collection but thats not the point i was trying to focus on here))

can't help but think that the crew adopting Izzy so fast may have contributed to Ed wanting to leave
