Flufftober 2020: Day Eleven
Prompt: Finding/Adopting a Pet
Pairing: Underfell Skelebros
Category: Familial
----------
The skeleton brothers from the Underfell universe didn’t need reasons to argue. Their antagonistic brotherly relationship transcended their life in the Underground, following them to their new home on the Surface. Most of the pointless altercations ended with Red storming out of the house, door slamming behind him on his way to Grillby’s. By the time he stumbled back home in the wee hours of the morning, the animosity had faded away into mild worry on Edge’s part over his brother’s whereabouts.
Scoldings over his trips to Grillby’s comprised a rather large percentage of the argument fodder, and unfortunately, when Red opened the door that day to storm out to his favorite haunt, Doomfanger darted out before either skeleton could stop her. The little white streak vanished into the hedges that bordered the driveway, and the brothers stood slack-jawed in the wake of her escape.
The shocked silence didn’t last long.
Without missing a beat, Edge berated Red while simultaneously shoving him out of the way to pursue his wayward cat. Edge almost knocked Red off his feet in his hurry to find her, and a string of insults slowly faded into a murmur then to silence as the distance between the brothers increased. Red took a seat on the front steps and closed the door behind him, opting to await Doomfanger’s possible return instead of going to Grillby’s. As much as he hated to admit it, he cared about his brother’s cat… and his brother.
Hours passed, and when Edge finally returned to the house that he shared with Red, he appeared dejected. Doomfanger wasn’t with him. Guilt washed over Red, especially when Edge just glanced at him, too fatigued from his search to even toss a casual insult his brother’s way. At that moment Red vowed that he would not rest until they found Doomfanger… after a good night’s sleep of course.
The next day, the two skeletons scoured the neighborhood, showing everyone they passed one of the abundance of photos of Doomfanger that each of them had on his phone. She happened to be a very photogenic cat and adored the glamor and attention of a photo shoot.
Nobody had seen her, but one helpful neighbor from a nearby apartment complex asked them if they had checked the local animal shelter. Stray cats who were friendly enough to be caught by Animal Control were taken there to either await pick-up by their owners or find new ones through the adoption process. Red and Edge locked eyelights, silently agreeing to check the shelter for Doomfanger.
Never one to simply walk through the front door of a public building, Edge organized a two-skeleton recon mission that involved Red crouching in front of each of the animal shelter’s windows while Edge stood on his back to peer inside. Sure enough, one of the windows yielded results. There could be no mistaking that gleaming white fur and delicate pink nose! Doomfanger sat in her crate, peering down her elegant nose at the other scruffy cats around her.
“HUMAN LAW ENFORCEMENT HAS ARRESTED MY PRECIOUS DOOMFANGER! WE MUST INITIATE A JAILBREAK AT ONCE!” growled Edge, leaping to the ground and immediately sketching out rough, elaborate plans into the dirt underneath the window.
“i think you can just go in and claim her,” Red pointed out, but Edge ignored him, tapping his mandible with the stick he was using to create a layout of the building. Red assumed the acorn and leaf on the diagram were meant to represent them, and the twig “X” was probably Doomfanger.
Edge scanned the surrounding area. “THAT SHRUB COULD HIDE THE ENTRANCE OF THE TUNNEL…” he mumbled to himself. Red sighed and wandered around the side of the building to execute his own, much less involved, plan.
Edge was still mulling over the necessity of drugging the guard when Red returned, cat carrier in hand. Doomfanger let out a disgruntled meow at being shuttled around in such an undignified manner.
“HOW DID YOU RESCUE HER?” Edge asked, leaning over to coo at his beloved pet through the grating at the front of the carrier. Red noticed, but did not mention, the sparkle that appeared in Edge’s eyelights when he baby talked to his cat. “DID YOU FEIGN INJURY TO DISTRACT THE GUARD?”
“no, Boss,” replied Red. “i went in and asked for her. they even loaned me this carrier so we could take her home.”
Edge snorted. “I SUPPOSE THAT’S ONE WAY TO DO THINGS,” he grumbled, scuffing out his carefully drawn strategies with the toe of one boot. He paused as if gathering the mental resolve to deliver his next words. “EXCELLENT WORK, SANS.”
Red basked in the praise. The skeleton brothers did not need a reason to argue, but all of their contentious bickering simply served as a disguise for emotions that they struggled to express. No, they didn’t need a reason to argue, but they were working on finding more reasons to encourage and agree.

Flufftober 2020
Day 4: Fake Dating AU
This is inspired by To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (with a definite twist) I had a story idea via a dream so that’s the product of it!
Alecto is just standing by her locker, wasting time until an unexpected person comes up beside her. She hears the sound of footsteps, and turns to see Marisol who’s looking out of breath beside her. They share a couple of classes, but she has never talked to the other girl much beyond that.
“This is short notice, but could you pretend to be my girlfriend?” Marisol said, watching her carefully. Her dark eyes study Alecto, making her feel a little bit weird.
“Why me? Don’t you have other people to ask for this?” Alecto was more than a little bit apprehensive. This must be a joke! You can’t be her first choice for this kind of thing.
“Um...don’t be mad but I told Elisa that I was dating you! Someone sent out my letters, well, love letters, and she got one. We just had an awkward conversation about the letter I sent her, and she told me she was flattered but she had a girlfriend already. She asked me about my love life and I panicked and told her that I was dating you.” Marisol wouldn’t meet her eyes. “I’m so sorry to pull you into it, but yeah.”
Come to think of it, you did receive a letter a couple days ago. You haven’t have time to read it, but you definitely recognised the handwriting on it.
Alecto noticed the tall, long limbed figure of Elisa in the distance and squeezed Marisol’s hand, hoping she got the signal. She caught hold of Marisol’s chin gently, turning her head towards her, then leaning in. She felt Marisol’s lips land on hers, and she kissed back out of instinct. By some luck, they had somehow avoided clashing glasses. She felt strangely warm, in a way she hadn’t felt before. Her thoughts started to vanish, it felt comfortable as they were relatively close in height.
For your first ever kiss, this one is a pretty good one. Did she like you? She must have done, if it was love letters.
Alecto felt Marisol pull away from her and looked back at her to notice the other girl was glowing.
“Thank you, I appreciate it.” Marisol promptly turned and disappeared in the opposite direction.
Hang on. It might make sense to discuss this a bit. And don’t both of you have French together anyway, which is completely the other direction to the way she went? You’ll need to catch up with her at some point anyway, to iron out the details of this. You do sit together, so that might provide the perfect way to bring it up? That was definitely a lot weird. This is definitely messing with your head.
She grabbed her bag and made her way to French, waiting outside the classroom and expecting Marisol to appear at any minute. She heard the bell, then checked her watch 5 minutes later. Marisol is never late, usually. She usually beats you to class on a regular basis. That’s a little concerning. The teacher’s always late, that’s no big deal.
When class eventually starts, she hears the door open and sees Marisol rush in and take a seat next to her. For the whole class apart from group or paired activities, the other girl completely blanks her and even leaves early after class finishes. This is odd, does she have a crush on you?
The whole situation consumes her mind until lunch, where she finds a quiet spot outside to eat and read the letter itself. With some luck, she had brought it with her. It’s pretty and neat, she carefully gets it out of the envelope.
Dear Alecto,
Since I moved here all those years ago, you have been nothing but welcoming and kind to me. Ever since we were put next to each other in the seating plan back in Year 7 in English, I have admired you from afar. You don’t have a group currently but that doesn’t mean a thing. Andromeda messed up when she chose those friends of hers over you, that’s for sure.
You spend most of your time by yourself, but not in a way that makes people sorry for you. You’re quietly confident and comfortable with your own self. I always have to have someone with me, but you can spend time alone without being scared of it which I admire. I base so much of my self worth on being with other people, and spend so much time focusing on my overall friendlessness, that I find myself being jealous of people who have actual friends.
Also you’re not alone regarding Andromeda and her friends. She bullies me also. This is meant to be a love letter but I am finding myself being able to pour my entire heart out to you. That’s another positive thing about you; I feel that I can be truthful around you and you won’t judge me.
Also you aren’t self conscious about your height or the way that you look. I’m so much shorter than the other girls which does get to me occasionally. You’re shorter than me but you own it. You don’t let people judge you either for wearing glasses. You have naturally clear skin and so pretty freckles, I’m definitely a little jealous there.
You’re pretty in your actions and the way you look, also. You know your own mind and don’t let people pressure you into stuff you don’t want to do, like wearing makeup or even dating. I let people pressure me into dating too early, and I do regret it. Something else I definitely admire is how you don’t buy into the whole ‘you need to be going to parties and drink to have fun’ and how ‘you need to have a relationship or dress up all the time no matter what’, you don’t let societal ideals change who you are.
Something else I admire is how you’re certain with what you want to do and you’re organised and a planner. It’s definitely good to have a plan for life, you want to go into medicine and become a doctor, which of course you know. I have a plan for my life which I don’t share with everyone, but this is where I pour out my heart in letter form, so I want to be a lawyer, and have a house and a cat with the person that I love in the future.
It’s hard to have a crush on you, when the chances of our paths crossing are rare. Do you know what it’s like to have a crush on someone who probably won’t love you back, but you hope and you dream that they’ll see you, more than just partners in class? Likely not. You don’t appear to concern yourself with high school dating and how dramatic it can get when it ends, or with the rumour mill.
You are beautiful and amazing and I want desperately to talk with you about more than just school related things. I want to know the true you and I want to know everything about you. You interest me as you’re the first girl I ever had a crush on, but I was put off by you being friends with Andromeda. I’ve never understood how you could stay friends with her and with Étienne, you’re nothing like either of them. You deserve a true friendship with someone who truly cares about you, and I wonder if you’ll let me be that person for you. I’m okay caring about you from afar but I wonder if we can be more than just school friends.
This letter is the only way I can articulate this, but you’ll never read it. It’s likely my feelings will stay inside me until I reread this in the future and remember the girl I loved from afar. You make me feel a little anxious and I find it hard to speak to you without becoming tongue tied, so I likely won’t ever speak this to you. You’re one of the only people who has this impact on me, and it’s a new and strange feeling.
Marisol Olivia Lopez
As Alecto finished the letter, she folded it back neatly, sliding it back into the envelope. She was absolutely speechless, a million thoughts were rushing across her mind.
She has a crush on you? How? She’s the amazing one.
She bit her lip, messing with a loose curl of dark hair. The unexpected confession caused her to blush, reading so many different things about her as a person, not just stuff related to physical appearance definitely made her have feelings she couldn’t understand.

EVENT: Flufftober 2020
PROMPT: Taking Care of a Sick Partner
AUTHOR: @hopeswriting
RATING: G
PAIRING: Lambo & Tsuna
SUMMARY:
Tsuna catches a pretty bad cold. Lambo is so not worried, of course not.
WORDS: 793
*
The door creaks when Lambo opens it, and he shushes it angrily. He kicks it in punishment before slipping inside Tsuna’s room.
His room is unusually tidy because Mama said sick people couldn't rest in a messy room, and the curtains on the windows were drawn close so the cold air from outside doesn’t slip inside much.
Tsuna lies in bed, a cloth on his forehead, sleeping. He’s been in bed for days, and Lambo is bored.
Mama said he caught a cold, and he nodded like he understood but he never caught a cold before. It must be afraid of The Great Lambo, like it should.
Lambo runs on his tip toes, hops on the bed. He peers at Tsuna’s face, touches it with his fingertips.
His skin is hot, his face red, and sweat rolls down on it. He… looks better though, Lambo thinks. He breathes easier. It means he’s getting better, right?
Lambo takes the cloth, sinks it in the bowl of not-so-cold-anymore water on the desk. He’ll go steal ice cubes later to put it in the water.
He squeezes the cloth the way he saw Mama do, and drops it on Tsuna’s forehead. It makes a splash sound, water running down Tsuna’s face.
Lambo tugs on the blanket to use it as a towel.
He sits on the pillow, randomly feeling Tsuna’s cheek with his hand, even if he doesn’t know why Mama was doing it to begin with.
Lambo is bored, and he wants to play in Tsuna’s room, wants to play with Tsuna, but big boys let their big brother rests without making noise when they’re sick, and Lambo is a big boy.
There’s a trail with a cup of tea on the desk, and he eagerly jumps on it. He grimaces at the first sip, and sticks out his tongue in disgust. The tea is lukewarm and not even sweet!
No-Good Tsuna’s tongue must be sick too.
A noise startles him, and the cup almost slips from his hands. Lambo jumps down, hands in front of him in a fighting position.
“Tail-head,” he screams, and immediately lowers his voice, “you better not go tell Mama The Great Lambo is here. Or The Great Lambo will hurt you!”
His eyes flicker wildly to find I-Pin, but I-Pin isn’t there. She isn’t in the room, and she isn’t outside, and the door is ajar but that’s how Lambo left it.
“Lambo…”
Lambo blinks. He turns around, and grins. “Tsuna-nii!” He runs to his side again, bounces on the mattress. “Tsuna-nii, you’re awake!”
Tsuna’s eyes are only half-open, and even that looks like it tires him a lot. “Lambo, you’re going to be sick too if you stay here.”
Lambo puffs out his chest, his hands on his hips. “The Great Lambo doesn’t fall sick. No-Good Tsuna is just weak.” Tsuna laughs a little, mumbles something he doesn’t hear. He closes his eyes, and Lambo’s heart misses a beat. “Tsuna-nii?” He nudges his face. “Tsuna-nii, are you going to die?”
“What?” Tsuna rises on his elbow, eyes wide open with panic. “Why would you say that? Is it Reborn? Do you know something?” He looks warily around the room, and settles narrowed eyes on the cup of tea. “What did you hear Lambo?” he whispers. “What did you—”
Tsuna doubles over in a violent coughing fit. Lambo head butts him in a lying position again.
“Mama said you need to lie down, Tsuna-nii!” He picks up the cloth, and forcefully slams it on his forehead. “You need to sleep and rest to get better!” He squishes his cheek, literally nose to nose with him. “Don’t worry, The Great Lambo will protect you against Stupid Reborn.”
Tsuna considers him through glassy eyes, and Lambo waits for him to dismiss him. He ruffles his hair gently instead.
“Will you? I’ll be very reassured if you stayed with me while I rest.”
Lambo holds his breath and waits for the catch. It doesn’t come. He beams.
“Of course Tsuna-nii! Do you need something else?”
“Water would be nice.”
Lambo helps him drink the cup of tea. It’s weird Tsuna doesn’t spit it out, but at least now he doesn’t have to go downstairs to bring him water. He promised he’d stay with him after all.
He tucks the blanket around him, then slips inside and settles on his chest, Tsuna’s arms around him. Tsuna’s heart beats right under his ear, and it lulls him.
“Lambo?”
“Yes, Tsuna-nii?”
“I’ll heal in no time, you’ll see.”
Lambo nuzzles his face against his shirt. “Okay.”
“Lambo?”
“Yes, Tsuna-nii?”
“Why is this cloth so wet? It’s dripping all over my face.”
Lambo goes limp. He closes his eyes, and fakes snoring.
Tsuna laughs.
*
BONUS:
This happens after their snowball fight. I mean, they practically showered in the snow lol. No way they didn’t all fall sick after that.
Tsuna especially has it pretty bad, and Lambo is worried sick (no pun intended lol).
He knows about people getting hurt, about quite the gore-ish wounds really, but sickness? The daily sickness like a cold, or headache, or fever? Not so much.
I mean when there’s a magical yellow fire with healing property around, there’s no reason to not deal with them as soon as they show up.
The first night he sleeps right at the foot of Tsuna’s bed (along with I-Pin). Mama finds him the next morning, but even after she explains how it’s not anything bad, and it sometimes happens, and he just needs a few days of rest, he can’t help but worry anyway.
I-Pin does take the hint, and he then needs to sneak past her to check on Tsuna-nii. (Not that I-Pin isn’t worried too, but she is just more reasonable with how often she goes to see Tsuna.)
When Tsuna does heal, the kids don’t give him a single second to himself and drag him to do all kinds of games. (Not that he minds.)
They also bunk together in Tsuna’s bed that night.
------
Lambo is actually very sick himself from the snowball fight lol. But I have this headcanon Lightning flames makes you more resistant to things (actually this is very canon lol), diseases included. (The benign ones anyway.)
So he’s kind of just powering through it, not being affected by the symptoms (that aren’t as strong as they should be to begin with.)
On the other hand when Lambo does show symptoms of sickness, it means it’s pretty bad already.
(It also means Lambo gets really scared when he’s sick and has to stay in bed. But not to worry, Mama and I-Pin and Tsuna are there for him.)
------
(Reborn actually doesn’t interfere in Tsuna’s healing. Yeah he’s a tyrannic tutor, but he’s also a Sun with notions of medicine, and when it’s that bad it just would be counter-productive.)
(Or maybe he’s just getting soft with Tsuna, but don't go tell him that.)
------
(The tea was sweet. But Lambo has a powerful sweet tooth, and nothing is sweat for him if it doesn’t increase his chances to catch diabetes later in his life at every bite/sip lol.)

Thank you for reading! Any and all review are appreciated ^^.

Flufftober 2020: Day Thirteen
Prompt: Carrying
Pairing: King (UF!Papyrus lamia) x Krait (Gaster lamia)
Category: Romantic
----------
From the moment the newly hatched Krait tumbled out of his shell into the big wide world, the young full-sized King who observed the hatching adored him. Edgar saw the look of affection in the King’s eyes and initially mistook it for that joyful glimmer that he himself felt at seeing any baby creature, but this was different. The King knew that he and the baby Krait were meant to be together always.
Swiftly, the King scooped the Krait into his arms, holding the hatchling close and letting him feel the beat of the bigger lamia’s SOUL. When the King passed the Krait to the nursery caretaker for his first bottle feeding, the hatchling beeped and peeped frantically until Edgar returned him to the King’s arms. The Krait quieted instantly, and from that moment forward, the pair were inseparable.
The King fashioned his scarf into a sling to carry his small friend around in. The Krait, a full-sized lamia himself, grew quickly under the King’s painstaking care. The King fed him until he was old enough that the pair could simply share meals in companionable silence. He preferred to bathe with the King nearby, allowing his friend to dry him off before he returned to his sling. Each night, he fell asleep listening to the gentle thrum of the King’s SOUL.
The King stayed in the nursery well past the time that he should have moved out into the adoption area. He had no intentions of leaving his friend behind. Once the Krait reached young adulthood, they moved to a nest in the shop together. The nest bordered the King nesting area yet was in close proximity to the Krait pools- the best of both worlds!
Though many guests at the shop petted and cuddled the Krait during their visits, he never attempted to stow away in any of their backpacks, purses, or clothing. His bondmate wouldn’t fit in any of the available spaces, and the Krait had no intention of leaving the King behind just as the King had once refused to leave the nursery without him. For his part, the King opted not to participate in displays for potential adopters either. Unless they wanted a Krait, the King just wasn’t interested.
The pair of lamias were in no rush to find a permanent home outside of the shop. They refused to be separated, and if that meant waiting longer (or even forever) for the right adopter, it didn’t bother them as long as they were together.
Days blended into weeks, and weeks became months. Months eventually accumulated into years, and still the two lamias lived their happy lives in their shared nest in the shop. A potential adopter entered the shop one day while the bondmates lounged next to the Krait pools. The King watched the Krait perform the same type of acrobatics that had won him over during their bonding display. The sight of his bondmate in a Krait’s natural element always brought a smile to his face. The smile widened when he overheard the conversation between the adopter and Vex, the shopkeeper.
“- looking for a Krait and a King. I know it’s an unusual combination, but I think that they would be perfect for me,” the person explained to Vex. The Krait slithered out of the play pool. He’d heard the words King and Krait spoken together too. The King quickly dried the Krait off with a fluffy towel and tucked him into his carrying pouch. The pair snuck closer to the front desk, where Vex asked the adopter a few questions.
Vex spotted the pair and gave them a barely perceptible nod to let them know that she approved of this adopter. Poking his head out of his pouch, the Krait pointed to the satchel sitting on the ground next to the visitor. It seemed like an ideal place to stow away… except that the King would never fit! The bondmates hissed quietly to each other, discussing their stowing away strategy.
Vex continued to distract the adopter while the lamias made plans. In the end, the King decided to wedge himself into the satchel as best he could. It didn’t turn out well. The King could only get the bag over his head and one shoulder, and Vex was running out of ways to keep the person’s attention on her. The Krait bounced up and down on the King, trying to squash him further into the satchel to no avail.
Vex waved her arms wildly as the person turned, just in time to see a King thoroughly stuck in their satchel, one arm contorted above his head to fit inside and the strap snagged on his other arm. A Krait perched atop the King’s head, sockets wide in shock at being caught in the middle of stowing away.
Covering their mouth to hide their laughter, the adopter extricated the King from the satchel. The King and his bondmate looked crestfallen, so the adopter made a quick suggestion: “I have a wagon outside that you’d both fit into. I can wander around the shop for a bit while you sort yourselves out, and I promise not to look in the wagon until I get home.”
Vex watched out the window as the lamia bondmates shifted blankets around in the wagon to hide themselves while their new owner filled out the adoption paperwork. As the Krait snuggled up against his bondmate, a thought occurred to both of them. If their new adopter allowed it and they felt comfortable in their new home, the Krait might soon be doing some carrying of his own...

*
The car’s tires screech on the concrete, the continuous honk sounding like a death sentence to Nagi’s ears. She curls over the cat, and presses him against her.
“Watch out!”
A body slams against hers, holds on to her tightly as they roll on the pavement.
Nagi’s heart beats in her ears, the loudest sound she ever heard in her life. She comes back to her senses to the cat’s soft fur curled in her fingers, his struggling body.
He squeezes between their two bodies to escape once she loosens her arms, and she cranes her neck to try to determine his state before he runs too far.
The boy who saved her moves and whimpers, and she immediately feels ashamed of her misplaced priorities.
Nagi pulls away of his loose embrace, sits on her knees.
“Are you okay? Do I need to call an ambulance?”
His arms are badly grazed, blood here and there, but hopefully it looks worse than it is.
He sits up, and she recognizes him as a Namimori Middle student going by his uniform.
Big brown eyes like doe look at her worryingly. “Are you? That was really close.” He blinks, glances around them. “What about the cat? Did he…”
“He left already. I think he was fine.”
The boy smiles. “Thanks to you.”
He wipes his bleeding cheek on his shoulder, staining his white shirt. Nagi reaches for her handkerchief, hoping it didn’t get dirty.
A honk startles her.
“You lovebirds, get out of the way if you’re fine already. Some people have to go to work.”
The crowd boos the driver—and oh no, they attracted a crowd—, and she gets back to her feet.
The boy does the same before she can offer him her help, his eyes ducked and his cheeks red, much like herself.
They get back to the sidewalk, Nagi picking up her school bag.
She fidgets with its strap. “You don’t… have your bag with you?”
“Oh, um, well, no?” He scratches the back of his head, looking everywhere but at her. “It kind of got taken away from me on my way to school, and then I kind of…” he shrugs, his voice getting quieter the more he talks “decided… to ditch school today altogether.”
“Oh.”
“Are you kids okay?” a man asks, stepping up from the crowd. “I can go with you to the hospital until your parents gets here if you want.”
Nagi tenses, and doesn’t find her voice to tell him it won’t be necessary.
The boy does, flailing his hands and stumbling on his words to assure him they’re fine and can take care of themselves.
He manages to disperse the crowd too, to her relief.
Her relief doesn’t last long though, upon the awkward atmosphere that embraces them once they’re alone.
“Here.” She hands him her handkerchief, his right shoulder and collar already bloodied beyond repair. “Also…” Nagi bows, formal and genuine. “Thank you for saving my life and protecting me from the impact.”
“Oh no, please, you don’t have to! I mean, I’m glad you’re okay of course, but, um—actually, I should be the one thanking you, you know? For saving the cat. Knowing me, I would have miscalculated and just try to scoop up air.” He laughs derisively. “Anyway.”
Nagi straightens at the same time he bows. They bump their heads, and sparkles fly.
Literal sparkles fly from his forehead, amber colored like the sunsets she likes to watch from her window.
Nagi crouches, hides her face in her lap, her eyes squeezed shut. She tries to ignore the indigo undertones of the darkness.
She’s about to feel the greatest heartbreak of her life, before even knowing love, but it’s okay. It will be easier to deal with it that way.
It feels like forever passed when the boy—her soulmate—speaks up.
“Right. I guess you already heard of me, uh?” He laughs, something bitter and brief. He sounds sad too, but more than that, resigned. “It’s okay, I get it. And I’m sorry it’s me, and you won’t—well, you know.”
Nagi frowns. What is he talking about? It’s the first time she meets him, and if she ever heard of him before she can’t recall him.
He clears his throat. “Right, um… I’ll just go now. Don’t forget to treat your wounds, alright?”
Nagi abruptly stands, urgency in her heart she doesn’t understand, but she guesses was to be expected.
What is he talking about? This isn’t about him at all.
Didn’t he heard about her? And even if he didn’t, can’t he see how… how Nagi she is?
“Wait, please. Please.” He stops, not turning fully back to her, his eyes cast down. “I’m sorry I reacted that way, I should have known it would be confusing. It wasn’t about you at all. It’s me.”
“What?”
Nagi nods. “It’s me. I’m just… me. I’m sorry I’m the one for you.”
“What?” he says again, looking utterly dumbfounded. “What about you? You—you saved the cat! You just ran to him without a second thought, I saw you. And you were ready to protect it with your body, that’s very brave and kind! And, um, well—” his hands freeze mid-air, and he blushes, slowly but surely “—you’re—you’re… really pretty.”
Nagi casts her eyes down, blushing to the tip of his ears, terribly self-conscious all of a sudden.
She just got saved from a car accident, how pretty can she really look like right now? Is he lying to her? Trying to be nice?
No, she doesn’t think he is. She would have seen it in his eyes otherwise.
It only makes her blush deeper.
“You saved me too.” Nagi breathes deeply, meets his eye the way he found the courage to meet hers. “You risked your life for a complete stranger. That’s at least as brave and kind as me.” He scratches his cheek, laughing a little, his first genuine laugh since they met. “Why… would anyone say anything bad about you?”
“Ah, that. Well, you know.” He puts his hands in his pockets, and shrugs. “I’m just… No-Good.”
Nagi hears the burden in his voice, the hurt and resignation and yearning. A strong sense of kinship grows inside her, and how pathetic is that of her?
“I’m the Weird Quiet Girl. Or the Quiet Scary Girl some days.”
“Oh. That’s… really lame of us.”
“Yeah, I was telling myself the same thing.”
He huffs a laugh, and she smiles, a little thing at the corner of her lips. They make eye contact, and bursts out laughing.
It sounds a bit hysterical at the end of it, and neither of their smile disappear once they get their composure back.
“You should go take care of your wounds,” Nagi blurts out, when she thinks for a second his cheek will bleed again.
“My house isn’t that far from here. My mum can look over us both, if you want.”
“Thank you. I wouldn’t mind, if that’s okay with you.”
He grins. “Yeah, of course!” He clears his throat, offers her an unsure hand. “I’m Tsuna. Sawada Tsunayoshi, but you can call me Tsuna.”
Nagi holds his hand, warm in hers. “I’m Nagi. Nice to meet you.”
Sparkles fly, orange and indigo mixing together, falling over their linked hands.
They smile at each other, soft and warm.
*
First I wanted to go with glowing, but I realized it could pretty easily look scary instead of pretty lol. So I went with sparkles, but even then I’m fully aware it could easily become... inconvenient on a daily basis loool.
Good thing this is just a one-shot aqsdfgukilo.
Thank you for reading! Any and all review are appreciated ^^.

EVENT: Flufftober 2020
PROMPT: Sharing Hobbies
AUTHOR: @hopeswriting
RATING: G
PAIRING: Gokudera & Hibari
SUMMARY:
The first thing Gokudera needs to do now they’re back to the present again, is checked on Namimori’s stray animals. Too bad it's the first thing on Hibari's list too.
TAG WARNING: Swearing
WORDS: 1009
*
Gokudera could think of only three reasons as to why all the stray animals seem to have disappeared of Namimori.
1) He stayed too long in the future because of this marshmallows-eating fucker, and now the strays don’t trust him anymore to show their face.
2) The return-to-the-present induced earthquake opened the floor in two and managed to swallow all the strays, and really, can Gokudera not trust anyone these days, not even the so-called Strongest babies in the world?
3) The marshmallows-eating fucker fucked too much with the universes, and now they’re simply no such things as stray animals in the world.
Gokudera throws his cigarette on the floor and crushes it under his foot. And oh, what he would give for it to be the face of a so-called new god of the worlds…
He steadies the bag on his back, and makes his way back home. Of course this matter needs immediate investigation, but he’s not going to do that while carrying a bag full of animals food.
He makes a detour by the river to double check, glances at the shore as he’s walking by, and almost chokes on the smoke of his cigarette.
Gokudera scrambles down the stairs, and runs to the bridge.
There, just under it, all the strays animals he was looking for, cats and dogs alike existing side by side oddly peacefully.
And scattered between them, these stupids-pompadour-haircut guys.
He points an accusing finger at the mastermind of it all. “You!”
His heart beats faster, and a grin pulls at his lips. This is it, this are all the proofs he ever needed.
Hibari is an animal type of U.MA., and he just busted him in the middle of some kind of ritual with his kinds.
He needs to take pictures—no, better yet, he needs to record the whole thing.
No, wait. What he needs is to get his priorities straight.
“What the goddamn fuck are you doing? Do you demand even animals bow to you?”
Hibari takes a look at him, at the bag he dropped at his feet.
“So it’s you. The stray animals of Namimori are taken care of, do not interfere anymore. You fatten them.”
“Say fucking what now?” Why does this guy never fucking make sense to him? Except, everything clicks then in Gokudera’s brain. He points his finger again with more zeal. “It’s you! What the hell are you teaching them? I almost lost my eye this one time!”
Hibari raises an eyebrow. He takes in the animals in front of him, looks back at him.
“Which one? They earned a treat.”
Gokudera reaches for his dynamites. Now he just asked for it, Tenth will surely understand.
Zitto makes his way to him to rub his head against his leg. Relief runs through him.
Gokudera would have gone through the whole process of winning their trust again if he had to, but he’s honestly glad he doesn’t have to.
A kitten follows behind Zitto, suspiciously looking like a mini him.
Oh shit, did Zitto got a kitten? When? With whom? Pia, Bianca?
Gokudera missed that?
Fucking goddamned shithead of a crazy marshmallows induced brain rot fucker.
Luigi and Sonno comes to him too, disregarding their food and ignoring the calls of the disciplinary committee members.
Gokudera rubs their heads, and smiles smugly at Hibari.
“Sorry, what exactly do you have taken care of again?”
Hibari narrows his eyes.
Bruno waves his tail looking straight at Gokudera, and he calls out to him.
“Come here, Bruno.”
“Shinobu.”
Bruno instantly changes his course, and sits at Hibari’s feet. Hibari rubs him behind his ear, and he barks happily.
Hibari doesn’t even look at him. “Sorry, were you calling out to him? He looks to me like he doesn’t care about your existence.”
“Oh, you’re so on.”
Gokudera stands in the middle of a circle of mess tins filled with milk and food, the same way Hibari is opposite him. In between them, the stray animals at equal distance of each of them. Off to the side, the disciplinary committee members as referees.
Gokudera crouches, uses both his baby voice and the gibberish talk to win Torta, Bambi and Rocco to his side. Hibari calls out to Vito, Rosa, Augusto and Prima, in the softest voice Gokudera ever heard him use, and all fourth of them go to his side.
Gokudera takes out his mini dynamites toys specifically tailored for them, and lights them off. Hibari propagates the food around him, smirking—what a fucking cheater!
Gokudera swallows his pride, and starts humming, even singing a couple of lyrics. Hibari makes Hibird sings the school anthem.
Maria is the only one left, while there is an equal number of animals on each side.
“Don’t get your hopes up,” Hibari says, “Mami practically lives in my house. Mami, it’s time to eat.”
“Oh yeah? Well, did you nurse her broken leg until she healed? Maria, come this way, come say hello.”
“Mami, this way. A treat is waiting for you.”
“Maria, don’t listen to this bastard. Come to me.”
“Mami.”
“Maria.”
“Mami.”
“Maria.”
Gokudera and Hibari glare at each other, and the tension is thick in the air.
Maria stretches, yawns lazily. She looks at Gokudera, takes a few steps his way. She turns back to Hibari, takes a few steps his way. She turns back again, stops at her previous spot.
Gokudera holds his breath.
Maria takes off, but not to either of them. She runs up the stairs, and throws herself right into Tsuna’s legs.
“Tenth!”
Tsuna startles, but then eagerly scoops Maria up in his arms. They rub their head against each other’s.
Hibari makes an offending noise.
“What was that you school-loving freak? Tenth is a great man, it’s only natural Maria chose him!”
Hibari makes that face where he’s obviously rolling his eyes while looking you straight in the eye. Gokudera twitches to throw a dynamite his way.
“Same place, same hour, tomorrow?”
Gokudera sticks his nose up in the air. “Your funeral.”
*
BONUS:
We only ever see Gokudera interact with Uri, so it's a bit unfair but I’m gonna go ahead anyway and say he’s bad with animals in general. Or more like, animals just never seem to like/trust him at first glance.
That never stopped Gokudera to stop and try to help all the stray animals he ever stumbles on all his life.
And that even before he could relate to them in a way no 13yo should relate to them.
It always takes a lot more than one try, and a lot of scratches and bites and a general hostility from the animals, and Gokudera getting a hold of his temper and being patient, but he never gives up.
He comes back every time, with food or drinks or toys or a first aid kit, and try to play by their rules as much as he can.
And eventually they warm up to him, and once they do they actually come to like him and trust him really quickly.
And Gokudera wants to adopt one (or more) of them, but he doesn’t trust himself to have this particular skill set. He gets there eventually though.
------
Hibari on the other end is an animal magnet. They’re just drawn to him, and he never minds it.
He has the disciplinary committee tracking every stray animals in Namimori, and keeping notes on every type of care they give them.
(That’s how he knows there’s someone else actively taking care of them too, and on a daily basis.)
And he doesn’t actually gather them all in one place every time lol. But he just got back from the future, and figured it’d be less bothersome to check on them all that way.
Hibari takes them to the vet first things first, and then does a background check on them all (as much a background check he can do anyway).
The ones he can identify and who got lost are returned to their homes.
The ones he can tell got lost and have a home to go back to but can’t identify, have people actively looking for their homes.
(Of course they’re returned to their homes only if it’s a suitable home they should be returned to. If not, Hibari visits these homes anyway.)
(On the other hand when it’s a case where the owners want to take care of the pet but don’t have the means to do it for whatever reasons, Hibari helps them with that.)
The ones who got abandoned, and the ones who got both abandoned and obviously maltreated, well—Hibari schedule a little meeting with the former owners.
------
And I feel like in this verse Hibari has actual parents who have authority on him, and they stand firm on the fact that “No, Hibari, we can’t let you adopt all the stray animals in Namimori.”
Hibari thinks it’s bullshit because their house is big and he’s sure he could manage, and also feels annoyed because they keep acting like he can just brought a few of them home.
But he obviously can’t, how is he supposed to choose between them all?
(He gets there eventually, but it’s more the animals choosing his home like Mami, than him choosing them.)
------
They meet again the next day by the river, then take opposites direction, and see how many strays they can feed before they have to meet again halfway.
The day after that they switch directions, and see if they can feed the strays faster than the other did.
And the day after that they go around the city together to see who’s the one most liked by the strays.
At the end of the third day they make the counts. Lather, rinse, repeat.
They eventually become friends, because of the sheer force of spending all this time together. And also by beating up stupid, cruel people who take their shit out on animals together.
Funnily enough they discover the same side of each other’s: gentleness.
Hibari uses this soft, soothing voice whenever he talks with the animals, has this genuine, open expression on his face, and just a very, simple, content little smile pulling at his lips.
Gokudera can’t make his voice that soft, or exudes that much of a calm energy. But he has this way he moves himself, the way he strokes them, the careful weight he puts in his movements whenever he has to touch them, that just speak of safety and trustworthiness.
------
Hibari starts hovering around Gokudera whenever he has to crowd with the others. And I feel like they’d be the kind of friends to mock others together.
(Not their common friends, or the other’s friends that aren’t necessarily their friends too, but everyone else is fair game.)
Gokudera is all colorful insults and imaginative metaphors, while Hibari is just very blunt and it’s all in the tone of his voice.
They both find the other hilarious.
And then Hibari starts showing at least one time out of three whenever they crowd together. And when he doesn’t Gokduera takes notes so he can debrief him later.
Meanwhile the others are rightfully baffled.
Is that Hibari willingly hanging out with someone? Wait, do they actually look friendly with each other? Are they laughing with each other??
Did Gokudera just pet Hibird??? Did Hibird just land on top of Gokudera’s head????????
The others are losing their mind, and they actually don’t even notice lmao.
------
But also, what if Yamamoto is jealous?
He’s all like, “What the hell, I’m trying to befriend you since day one and all you do is snap at me, and then you go and become friend with Hibari of all people in no time???”
(No offense to Hibari, he actually likes Hibari, but also he sure as hell was there first.)
And then Gokudera has to go through the mortifying ordeal of asserting their friendship and the fact that yes, he does see Yamamoto as a friend, with actual words he has to speak out loud, and in no uncertain terms.
And even worse, he has to explain how it’s stupid of him to compare himself to Hibari, because he values both friendships for entirely different reasons.
Sometimes he just needs to be his explosive self, and tactless and hurtful more often than he would like, and trusts that he won’t be pushed away for it.
And sometimes he just needs someone to indulge with him in being unapologetically unlikable, and trusts he’s not being judged for it.
And he regrets this conversation deeply because Yamamoto and Hibari ends up becoming friends anyway (and Yamamoto never lets him live their conversation down), and suddenly they’re an inseparable trio.
*
Tsuna saved Maria from drowning once (he calls her Akiko). He brought her back home in case she would catch a cold, and they spent a couple of days together. And yeah, they’re not exactly nice to each other in this, but this is Hibari and Gokudera, I did what I could while trying to keep them in character lol.
Also I do firmly believe Gokudera would have straight up punch Byakuran in the face upon seeing him in the present for the first time, and even blow him up a couple of times. Like they both deserve azsdfghjkl.
Anyway thank you for reading! Any and all review are appreciated ^^.

SUMMARY:
Vongola holds a second Inheritance Ceremony for Tsuna and his Guardians. Of course they’re all required to attend in the after party.
PAIRING: Chrome & Hibari
WORDS: 1236
*
For the most powerful alliance of mafia famiglie in the world, they sure have time to waste. The old Carnivore passed on his title to Tsunayoshi already, so Hibari has to wonder what the purpose of this after-party is.
His fellow Guardians scattered around the luxurious room, blending in the party unlike him, but he isn’t fooled.
Takeshi and Mukuro keep being engaged in conversations by the others famiglie, and forced to play nice with them. Or so it looks like.
Hibari hovered around them earlier and heard them answer the subtle insults sent their way by subtle insults of their own, then doubling down on them until they were left alone.
The little animal kept to the buffet after being treated like the child he is by a woman one-too many times, Ryohei never straying too far away from him.
And Hibari did think Ryohei wouldn’t have so eagerly partake in the party, but there he is, witness of his shameless betrayal.
Tsunayoshi does look like he’s having a terrible night. The baby keeps pushing him to make small talk with the bigger names attending the party, and he still has to grow out fully of his shy, jittery, and insecure demeanor.
In the meantime he’s being looked down upon, and talked down upon. Hibari can tell from the way they stand around him, the way they look at him.
Hayato would have blow up each of their faces long ago if it wasn’t for Tsunayoshi.
No need for him to worry though, Hibari will bite these fools to death later.
Kusakabe puts himself between him and whoever was making his way over him. Hibari scowls harder, and tries to disappear through the wall.
Kusakabe doesn’t put himself between him and Tsunayoshi, and Tsunayoshi gives him a jealous look while walking by him.
He puts his hands on his hips. “And why don’t I have a competent bodyguard like Kusakabe?”
“What do you think we are?”
“Useless, that’s what. Did you even talk to anyone yet?” Hibari glares, and Tsunayoshi pouts. “Yeah, I thought so.” He slumps against the wall next to him, and sighs loudly. “Well, you’re all useless except for Hayato of course. Bless his soul.”
Hibari huffs. “You won’t even let him speak out.”
“Maybe, but trust me his flames talk for him just fine.” He snickers. “Also it’s the four times he received an important message he absolutely had to show me. In private of course.”
“And you threw him to the wolves in thanks.”
Hayato smiles up at some Donna who apparently never heard of personal space, and it wouldn’t surprise Hibari if he slips a mini dynamite in her bag before he manages to get rid of her.
Tsunayoshi elbows him in the side. “Don’t say it like that, it’s just teamwork alright? And I had to talk to you. Listen, can you find Chrome and check on her for me? I—”
“Chrome doesn’t need to be checked on.” Hibari rolls his eyes. “Just leave her be.”
“I know that, it’s not like that. Do you have to make every instance of me worrying about you belittling?”
“You don’t worry half as much about the rest of us.”
Tsunayoshi throws his hands up in the air. “I wish I could! You know, instead of worrying about literally everyone else in a five miles radius around you?”
Hibari smirks proudly, and Tsunayoshi rolls his eyes. A particularly high-pitched and fake laugh draws their attention to Mukuro and the woman he’s currently entertaining.
Tsunayoshi smiles. “Isn’t it nice he stuck with us for so long already?”
“How suspicious.”
“I know. Do you think he’ll start the mass Mist flames-induced hallucinations soon? Or maybe he’s messing with the food or something?” He sighs. “I wish he would.”
Tsunayoshi sighs again, long and dreamy. He keeps the façade for a whole second before dissolving into a fit of giggles, sharing a knowing look with Hibari.
Hibari huffs a laugh, then chuckles silently, his shoulders shaking.
“I could just bite them all to death.”
“I wish I could let you. Ah, gotta go save Hayato before he commits a murder. Just go check on Chrome quickly, okay? Please? I leave it to you, Kyoya!”
Hibari watches him scurry off, and parts from the wall with a sigh. He walks around the room looking for Mist flames affected area, utterly ignoring any and all who try to catch his attention.
He finds Chrome on the balcony, sat against the wall. There’re subtle Mist flames around her, that don’t appear to make her blend in the surrounding more than stopping whoever is looking at her to register her presence.
Hibari smirks. She would have tricked him if he wasn’t so familiar with her flames.
He leans against the wall. “What are you doing? You’re better than that. Just stare them down hard enough until they take the hint.”
Chrome smiles. “Reborn-kun explicitly said we had to play nice. When you can’t engage with the enemy, you have to make sure not to cross path with them. It’s 101 battles strategies, Kyoya-kun.”
“Then leave. Make yourself a Mist double. One for me too.”
She shakes her head. “Don’t tempt me. Did Mukuro-kun make one?” she adds after a beat.
“Surprisingly no.”
“It’s surprising you’re still here too, you know,” she teases, and he rolls his eyes. Chrome stretches out her legs in front of her, smooths her skirt. She sighs. “I’m not good at this.”
Hibari scoffs. “You fit right in then.”
“Not true,” Chrome says, grinning nonetheless. “It must be even harder for Mukuro-kun, but he’s talking with all these people so easily. I thought it’d be better if I stayed aside instead of ending up making all of you look bad.”
“Like we care, or are any better. Don’t be stupid.” He offers his hand, and Chrome hesitates for only a second. “Hayato will blow up something soon. Or a someone if we’re lucky. You don’t want to miss that.”
Chrome laughs. “No, I don’t think I want to. Thank you, Kyoya-kun.”
She smiles warmly at him, and he shrugs, averting his eyes.
“Let’s go.”
Chrome takes the lead, a joyful skip in her steps. Hibari snorts.
She whips around, the way she suddenly feels self-conscious written all over her face.
“Did you just laugh at me?”
“No.”
“You did! Kyoya-kun it’s so mean, what is it?” She spins on herself, twisting her head to see above her shoulders. “Is it my hair? Is it my clothes?”
Chrome makes a mirror out of her flames, and Hibari holds back another chuckle at the way she flails in front of it.
“You’re fine, hold still.”
He swats her hands away from her hair, and slides them above her shoulder. He tucks in the tag of her jacket.
Chrome inhales sharply, turns to him red-faced, her hands covering the back of her neck.
“You let me walk around with my tag out this whole time? Oh my god, you guys! I’m not going back in there.”
“Don’t be stupid, it’s tucked in now, isn’t it?” Hibari takes her hand and drags her inside, Chrome putting up a halfhearted fight. “Tsunayoshi asked for you.”
Chrome complains to him the whole night, and Hibari has Mukuro hiding the tag of her skirt with his flames instead of bringing it to her attention.
Girls are so unreasonable sometimes.
*
BONUS:
This is after the second Inheritance Ceremony. I headcanon it happens after they all finished high school.
They’re on a first name basis because let’s be honest, KHR is just one big found family trope with a side of supernatural colorful flames, and there’s no point if they don’t actually grow close to each other.
Hibari is also on a first name basis, but only when talking to them and them only, and also with the people who are in their immediate closest circle.
Otherwise he uses his animal vocabulary of his, and also when he’s annoyed with them. (He can’t let people know he feels after all, god forbid.)
Only Lambo is always called little animal (and Tsuna actually felt proud when he went from little animal to omnivore lol), and he doesn’t mind at all because he takes it as the endearing nickname it is.
Reborn is, what, five or six years old here? But Hibari still calls him baby, and he finds it incredibly funny how he can always tell how incredibly annoying it is for Reborn. He keeps it up for a couple of years more lol.
------
Hibari didn’t leave the after party yet (nor Mukuro), because Reborn said they needed to stay around for at least two hours, but he actually never said they needed to talk with anyone.
Hibari manages to not talk to anyone until he could leave.
(But then he actually doesn’t leave, because Tsuna obviously can’t leave the party held for him until there’s no more guests, and he sticks out with him along with the other Guardians.)
------
And the party goes quite well, all things considered. Tsuna is really proud of them.
Yamamoto and Mukuro make themselves enemies of everyone who dared to talk bad of Tsuna or the rest of them with smiles, and a sweet/cheerful voice, and not-so-subtle-turning-to-threats insults the longer the party went on.
(And I headcanon it’s something that would happen because yeah Tsuna was trained by the World’s Greatest Hitman and literally saved the whole universe among other things, but he was still a civilian literally only a couple of years ago, and almost all of his Guardians were civilians too, so I think they’d actually be that much full of themselves to look down upon him/them.)
Ryohei plays it oblivious because he knows he’s not subtle enough to not escalate things if he were to confront them. But you better believe he remembers their names and their face, and, well, you know, will take the opportunity for sweet revenge when it will present itself.
And Hibari feels betrayed he blends in that well because he’s the one who is supposed to be out-of-place in moments like this with him, in his own way.
(When Hibari is not enough—withdrawn and cold and silent—, Ryohei is too much—too extreme, takes too much place, too friendly.)
But if Ryohei has to hear them talk bad about Tsuna, he sure as hell can make sure it won’t be because of him, so he makes sure to be in his best behavior.
------
Lambo sticks around the buffet to cheer himself up first (and yeah he tried to flirt with the women lol), but then he picks up on Yamamoto’s and Mukuro’s flames, and at their signal starts messing up the food of those particular people.
Ryohei distracts them to give him the opportunities, and makes sure he doesn’t get caught. Then Chrome joins them and it becomes much more easy, and more... inventive too.
(A lot of them are bed-ridden the next couple of days.)
------
Gokudera doesn’t actually blow up anything, or anyone. It’s too flashy, and he became more subtle with the years. And who needs dynamite when your flame’s attribute is disintegration?
Do you know the humiliation of losing your pants in public, or having a piece of cloth torn in a way that expose you? Or having food all over your clothes and face because the plate literally exploded in your hands?
Yeah, them too.
(I said he became more subtle, I didn’t say anything about becoming more mature azerfgthjkl.)
------
Hibari just enjoys the spectacle from aside (alongside Reborn), and puts a target on random people's back just because he can lol.
And like I said, Tsuna is really proud of them.
(And if later people have the nerve to come complain to him, he goes full on No-Good, oblivious, what-the-hell-do-you-expect-me-to-do Tsuna on them, all the while cackling on the inside.)
------
I feel like Hibari would be the big brother of the group. A very enabling big brother, who absolutely will be right by your side helping you to cause maximum damage (and who does plenty of damages on his own), but a big brother nonetheless.
Ryohei is the actual, reliable, reasonable-ish (emphasis on the ish) big brother.
Mukuro could be a big brother too, but does he care to? He really doesn’t. He’s actually right there besides Lambo in how willing he is to listen to his every whim lol.
Yamamoto, Gokudera and Chrome are the middle siblings.
And Tsuna is, of course, you would have guessed it, the mother of the group. Unless, of course, he can’t take any more of this mafia bullshit and lets them go loose to their heart content.
(The paperwork is absolutely worth it.)

SUMMARY:
Yamamoto brings Hibari to an animal shelter, and hopes it will cheer him up a little.
TAG WARNING: Implied/Reference Animal Death, Implied/Reference Animal Abuse
WORDS: 1415
*
“Good—good afternoon sirs.” The man takes even less than one look at Hibari and shifts his whole attention on a smiling Yamamoto. Not that Hibari is looking at him. He’s doing this thing where he’s scrutinizing the animal shelter while still definitely looking at him. “What can I help you with?”
“We just want to take a look,” Yamamoto says.
“Oh?” The relief is clear on his face at the prospect of having minimum interactions with them. “What about—” He glances at the stray cat in Hibari’s hands.
“No.” There’s a distinct lack of any emotions in Hibari’s voice, as distinct as the unmistakable shift in the air.
The man tenses even more, which Yamamoto didn’t think possible but he’s used to it by now. People just tend to surpass themselves around Hibari out of an overwhelming desire to not die.
Hissy nuzzles Hibari’s arm, unbothered, apparently already unaffected by the Hibari effect. That’s good, seeing as she’s most definitely coming back home with them.
“Sorry,” the man chokes out. He does meet Hibari’s eye, but maybe he’s just smart enough to not risk having him out of his sight. Not that it would change anything.
“Volunteer?” Hibari asks. Yamamoto glances at the badge pinned on his chest. Oh yeah, he is a volunteer. Poor guy.
“Yes, I’m—”
“How long?”
“Err, a long time?”
“This shelter is not up to standards, Herbivore.”
Yamamoto swallows a laugh at the dumbfounded look that crosses his face. But then it takes on an outraged expression, albeit his voice comes out shakily.
“Well sir, we’re not the ones you should be telling us that. All the employees here are doing the utmost best with the resources they’re given. These animals are cared for and loved and looked after with all of our heart. Of—of course it could be better, but we make a point to make sure they’re not unhappy at all. S-so—”
Hibari subtly straightens his back, and he quiets down. “Is that so?”
The man pales under Hiabri’s preying eyes. He swallows thickly, either subconsciously aware—or worse, very consciously aware of the threat building in the air.
Yamamoto takes pity at the sheer panicked look he gives him.
He steps closer to Hibari, slides his hand down his back to rest at the small of his back. “That’s good to know, sir. Isn’t it, Kyoya?” He brushes their shoulder together, ever so slightly.
“I suppose.” Hibari looks past the volunteer again, effectively dismissing him. “I’ll write you a check.”
“No way, I’ll do it.” Yamamoto swings him around to look at him eye to eye. “Out of my own money. For the animals, and as a proof of my love.” Hibari narrows his eyes, and he gives him his most serious, solemn expression. “Because I love you.”
“Disgusting. You’re lucky I didn’t train her yet.”
Yamamoto laughs when he shoves past him. He falls in steps behind him, hands in his pockets.
“Excuse-me sir? A—a check?”
“Uhm?” He turns back to the man, to the confused look on his face. “Oh yeah, you know, for the good of the animals.”
They’ve seen worse shelters by far. Maybe there are a little too many animals for a not big enough space in this one, but at first glance the place is clean, the cages too, and the animals look in good shape.
They’ll use the money right.
“I don’t know if… I’m allowed to…”
“Ah, I forgot.” He closes the distance, puts a hand on his shoulder. “We’ll come check in regularly, so make sure we’ll leave happy alright?” He smiles, wide and cold. He lowers his voice. “Or we’ll break you.”
Yamamoto goes on his merry way without looking back.
A grin quickly plasters itself on his face, and he devolves even quicker into using his baby voice. He waves at the cats, makes faces at bunnies and hamsters, and talks gibberish at every single one of them.
Barks and growls and meowing lead him to Hibari, crouched in front of a dog’s kennel.
Hissy is doing what she does best in the fifteen minutes Yamamoto knows her, that is hissing on all fours on Hibari’s knee. She’s all puffed out to make herself bigger, but is still nowhere near the dog’s size.
Hibari doesn’t even spare him a glance when he crouches beside him. He’s too busy giving praises and incentives and advice to both Hissy and Twilight, stroking Hissy alongside her back.
It does seem to spur the animals on, and Yamamoto wonders for the umpteenth time if Hibari actually mastered the animal language.
“Twilight too then?”
“We’re not calling her that.”
“And Chocolate too,” he adds, waving at the most adorable, chocolate brown puppy he has ever seen, in the kennel next to Twilight.
Hibari rolls his eyes, as if he wasn’t keeping his eye on the puppy all this time. He sneaks his fingers between the bars to stroke the fighting animals to a cease fire.
There’s a content and peaceful look on his face that warms Yamamoto’s heart, still sad and not a smile yet, but it’s the closer to happiness he’s seen him since weeks. His pants are dirty around his knees from when he knelt on the street until he won Hissy’s trust, and a burst of fondness overtakes him.
“Kiss?”
Hibari tilts his head without looking, and he plants a lingering kiss on his temple. He nuzzles his hair, and when Hibari tilts his head again, kisses his forehead.
They move on, go around the shelter back to the entrance. Yamamoto abruptly turns back before their last turn, and finds himself nose to nose with Hibari.
“You know what,” he laughs, not fooling anyone, “I think I want to see Twilight again.”
Hibari huffs. “I can hear them, I’m not deaf.”
“He was just so cute you know? We should go back the way we came.”
“You will move aside, Kitsune.”
Yamamoto bites his lip, but eventually and reluctantly lets him pass. He doesn’t move from his spot while Hibari strides the birds’ aisle.
This is too soon. Is this too soon? The others said it’d be too soon.
Well, Gokudera and Lambo did. Ryohei and Chrome thought it could help him move on, and Mukuro warned him it could go either way.
Tsuna gave a worrying “maybe”, but he didn’t get a bad feeling and his Hyper Intuition didn’t go off, so Yamamoto thought he could take the shot.
He tries to subtly get a feel of Cloud flames, but the way they snarl at him tells him he wasn’t so subtle.
“Kitsune.”
Yamamoto sighs and makes his way over. “I’m sorry Ky-chan, I’m just—”
“We’ll take this one too.”
The bird is busy eating, a beautiful white dove with black eyes and a black beak, a black collar at the nape of his neck. He doesn’t look anything like Hibird, but maybe that’s for the best.
“Are you sure? Please don’t feel like you have to become better quicker than it feels right because of me. I just—”
“Worry too much for nothing, as usual.”
“It’s not nothing,” Yamamoto says softly. He leans against him, and Hibari doesn’t move away. “Hug?”
There’s a beat of silence before Hibari puts Hissy down. There’s another beat where he strokes the top of her head before he stands back up, straight into Yamamoto’s arms.
He pretends to pull away, clicks his tongue. “Your perfume,” he says with impressive disdain in his voice.
Yamamoto laughs. “I know, I know, I’ll change it back.” He strokes the hair at the base of his neck, breathes in eagerly in their strawberry scent. “You know, Hibird isn’t in bird Heaven because he was your bird, but I’m sure he’s having the best time of his life in bird Hell.”
Hibari huffs a laugh, but then actually chuckles, low and husky at the back of his throat, his shoulders shaking. Yamamoto grins ear to ear, and pulls back to take in his happy face, the gleam in his eyes and the white of his teeth peeking through.
“Obviously, who do you think he was?”
“The best,” he says, bumping their foreheads together. “How should we call this little one?”
Hibari hums, shifting his head to look at the dove. “Blade.”
Yamamoto snorts, holds back his laugh as best he can, that is badly. “Terrible name.”
Hibari shuts him up with a biting kiss, and he’s happy to let him.

BONUS:
This is TYL but in a TYL!Verse where Byakuran isn’t trying to take over the world because, you know, they dealt with that.
Takeshi and Kyoya got together, err, at some point??? Not when they were teens in any case. Somewhere between after high school/reaching adulthood and when they hit 24/26 years old.
They got together because??? Not out of some lingering feelings from when they were teens in any case, of from a sudden realization of how the other is boyfriend material lol.
And Hibari’s type definitely includes “high battle skills” but he’s in it for other things too.
------
Maybe Takeshi was the one he used as intermediary to stay in touch with the other Guardians/Tsuna/the family business because he’s the one he tolerates the most.
Maybe Takeshi was the one Tsuna sent the most in mission with Hibari because he’s the one most successful to deal with Hibari being Hibari without it ending in a fight.
And maybe they learn to actually enjoy each other company instead of just tolerating/putting up with the other. And maybe they start hanging out with the other outside of family business.
And maybe they learn to appreciate the way they balance each other, and the way they make each other better, and the way they can deal with the other at their worst without, like, not allowing the other to be at their worst, you know? (Probably not lol.)
Yeah, something like that, that sounds nice.
------
Anyway, they’re together since a year or two here?
And Hibird died because??? Not some horrible death like a mafiosi wanting to take revenge on Hiabri or something anyway. Idk guys, birds just die sometimes.
So Hibird died and Hibari is sad. And he’s not going on a rampage because he’s 26 and learned how to deal with his emotions like a functioning adult. Well, as much as a functioning adult Hibari can become lol.
He does get more vicious and merciless in his missions. And more cold and with an even shorter patience when dealing with the others Guardians. And demands more alone time too.
And it’s been weeks like that, and Takeshi wants to give him back some happiness. He thinks maybe adopting a new pet would do him some good.
------
The actual, full pet names Hibari uses for Takeshi is Ao Kitsune (Blue Fox), for obvious reasons and also we’re not gonna talk about my poor tastes in pet names.
But only when he feels particularly proud because Takeshi’s messing with someone, or turned on because he’s being particularly serious in a fight, or mad but while still being in a loving mood.
Otherwise Kitsune it is (including in bed, yeah you didn’t ask but now you know lol).
Takeshi calls him Ky-chan, and we’re still not gonna talk about my lack of skills in choosing pet names. Kyoya isn’t much up to public display of affection tho, so it’s only when it’s just the two of them.
And it’s just Kyoya like, 80% of the time anyway because they both prefer it that way.
------
Hibari wants to call the dove Blade because white feathers, sword, Takeshi’s favored weapon, all that. It’s his way of saying thank you and showing how he appreciates what he did, and Takeshi knows it.
They do end up adopting all three animals, and all three names stay. Also no, we’re not going to talk either about how much worse I am at just naming things lmao.

PROMPT: Compliments
AUTHOR: @hopeswriting

PAIRING: Chrome & Lambo
SUMMARY:
Chrome and Lambo unexpectedly meet at the park.
WORDS: 770
*
Chrome pats herself on the back for immediately recalling the name of the cow child upon seeing him. Not that he is easy to forget, on the contrary.
He’s kind of sticking out right now, with his black afro, and horns, and his cow theme clothes, all by himself in the park.
He walks pitifully right by the bench she’s sat on, kicking his feet and grumbling. He whips around just as he is about to walk past her entirely.
“You!”
Lambo points her accusingly, Lightning flames sparkling around his horns. There’s clear defiance in his eyes, in every features of his face, in the way he’s poised, and in his entire demeanor, really.
Chrome truly admires how much space he’s always willing to take—all the space he can and more—without never second-guessing himself for a second.
“Hi, my name’s Chrome.”
Lambo falters. “Are you... Tsuna-nii’s friend?”
Chrome blinks. “I’m... on your side,” she settles on.
Mukuro pokes her pettily, but they are, aren’t they? To some extent anyway. Chrome certainly isn’t wearing the Vongola Ring out of fashion sense.
But Boss’ friends? Maybe one day.
Lambo climbs on the bench, sits besides her like they’re the best of friends now.
“I’m The Great Lambo, a hitman from the Bovino famiglia, and I’ll be the one to defeat Stupid Reborn.”
“The Sun Arcobaleno?”
Lambo jumps to his feet, actually making her tense for a second. “I will, I will! Don’t underestimate me.” He takes grenades out of his hair, two in each hand. “With these weapons Boss gave me, one day for sure—”
Chrome snatches the grenades from him, too brutally maybe because he freezes.
“You can’t show them around like that Lambo-san, not here.” She glances around them, but thankfully no one seems to have noticed. “You should be more careful with them too. They could have slipped from your hands and exploded on you.”
Chrome holds the grenades back to him in her open hands, a light layer of Mist around them just in case. Lambo hides one back in his hair slowly, side-eyeing her somewhat... distrustfully?
“These are real bombs.”
Chrome tilts her head. “Yes, I know? You’re a hitman, aren’t you?”
“I am.” He perks up, hides two more grenades with more pep. “And I’ll beat Stupid Reborn ass back to hell one day.”
Chrome winces internally, while Muckuro chuckles, delighted. She pinches him in a chiding manner.
“It’s a very big dream to have.”
“It’s not a dream, it’s Lambo’s ambition.”
“It’s a very big ambition to devote yourself to.”
Lambo hides the last of his grenades, and straightens his back pretentiously. “I’m not afraid.”
Chrome smiles. “No, I guess you wouldn’t be. You’re very brave after all.”
Lambo blinks. “Lambo is?”
“I saw you step in the Lightning arena during the Varia battles. It must have been really scary to you.” Something like baited hope takes over his face, and a bit of wonder. “And then you walked off his Lightning attack. You’re very strong too, aren’t you?”
Lambo puts his hands on his hips, throws back his head. He bursts out laughing, red dusting his cheek.
“Of course I am,” he screams, attracting eyes their way. “The Great Lambo is the Strongest Man in the World.”
Chrome covers her mouth with her hand to muffle her laugh. She leans back against the bench, puts her bento on her lap.
It completely slipped out of her mind, what with this unexpected encounter.
“Are you lying?”
Chrome needs a second to realize the quiet voice is Lambo’s. He plays with his tail, his head ducked down and his eyes stuck to his feet.
“Of course not,” she says as softly as him. “I wish I could have as great ambitions as yours. The fact you can really speaks of your strong mind to me.”
Lambo smiles. His Lightning flames buzz all around him, flickers of green flashing briefly here and there. They seep through her skirt when he puts his hand on her thigh, shock her in a ticklish way.
“You’re nice, I like you. Want to become The Great Lambo’s subordinate?”
“No, thank you.”
“Lambo is hungry too.”
Chrome chuckles. She opens her bento, puts the lid aside hesitantly. “I don’t mind, but—” Lambo snatches two takoyaki and stuffs them in his mouth “—I did it myself.”
He gulps them down without having chewed nearly often enough, snatches another takoyaki and swallows it even quicker.
“It’s good, but Mama’s are better. If you become The Great Lambo’s subordinate, I’ll ask Mama to teach you.”
Chrome laughs. “No, thank you.”
*
I feel like Mukuro would just hang at the back of Chrome’s mind whenever he can, experiencing the outside world through her eyes, making sarcastic comments through whatever way they communicate with each other.
Not words, or, like, a voice in her head. More like vibes, sensation like touch, or the flow of their flames, or something else.
And yeah, it’s... Not Great complimenting Lambo on how great of a hitman he’d be, but, well, he is a hitman. Wants to grow to be one anyway, so, you know.
Thank you for reading. Any and all review are appreciated ^^.

FANDOM: Katekyo Hitman Reborn!
EVENT: Flufftober 2020
PROMPT: First Date
AUTHOR: @hopeswriting
RATING: G
PAIRING: Adult!Colonnello/Adult!Viper
SUMMARY:
Colonnello and Viper go out for their first official first date.
WORDS: 724
*
Colonnello gives a low bow, like a servant in front of his master. He’d know, he practiced.
“Your Majesty.” He steps aside from the door, holds out his hand to show the way. “After you.”
Viper predictably shoves him, and he hangs on the doorway to not fall, snickering.
“I better find a limo waiting for me outside then.”
“What, in this beautiful starry evening? Don’t count too much on it.”
Viper locks the door behind them, checks him out openly. “You made yourself pretty.”
“Thanks, I hate it.”
Viper huffs a laugh. They reach out to open his jacket and loosen his tie, ruffle his hair from his formal haircut to his stylish mess of blond locks.
“Headband?” Colonnello gives it to them, and they have to float a little to put it on him. “There, I like you better that way anyway.”
They heed to the stairs hand in hand, a lopsided grin on Colonnello’s face.
“Did you make yourself pretty?”
“You wish you knew.” Colonnello tugs on their hand, and they use the momentum to press themself all against him. “Maybe if I spend a good enough night,” they whisper in his ear, “I’ll invite you to stay the night with me, and then you could find out.”
Colonnello smirks. “I’ll hold you to that.”
They make it to the streets lively as ever, full of laughs, and loud excited chatter, and music. The streets lamp light their way, and reflect on the river they’re walking nearby.
Colonnello slows down when they come near the boats.
“You’re kidding me?”
Colonnello grins. “Not at all.” He leads them along the rail to the boat he rent for the night. “This one.”
Viper lets out an incredulous laugh.
There’s a lantern in the middle of the boat that gives out a warm, orange glow, and candles shielded by glass in a circle formation. The red carpet looks really soft, and there’s a box of something tidied in a corner.
Viper whips his head to look at Colonnello. “Are you going to offer me roses now?”
“What if I was?”
“Are you?”
Colonnello laughs, wraps an arm around their waist to bring them close. “I’m not.”
“Thank god.” They look back at the boat, how invitingly lit it is, how it only adds to the pretty reflect of lights already on the water. They can’t help but laugh again. “Honestly, why am I even surprised. What’s in the box?”
“Dinner, and blankets.”
“And pray tell, where’s the fancy, expensive gift you bought for me?”
“I’m sorry, did we talk about a fancy, expensive gift? I don’t remember that.”
Viper jabs him in his side. They get on the boat, careful to keep their balance, Colonnello close behind.
“Who’s even going to row?”
“Who do you think?”
“It’s just going to be the two of us then?”
“Isn’t that nice?”
It is, as a matter of fact. Viper was afraid for a second they’d have to spend the night in a crowded place full of other couples.
They tug him down to kiss his cheek. “Thank god.”
They draw their hood back, just enough their face isn’t hidden anymore. Colonnello’s eyes lit up, fills with warmth, and he cups their face for a kiss on the lips.
He gets the boat moving, and they drag the box away from its corner to open it. There're two glasses, a bottle of champagne, sandwiches—home cooked they’re sure—and really no flowers of any kind like he promised.
Viper opens the bottle of champagne on a hunch. It’s filled with strawberry milk.
A delighted laugh leaves their mouth, and there’s no one around so they let it out freely.
“You’re so cheesy.”
“I know.”
“You’re such a romantic.”
“I know.”
“I love it.”
“I love you.”
Viper rolls his eyes and glances at him, blushing despite their best efforts. Colonnello gives them a soft, contented smile, the one that always makes their heart miss a beat.
“Love you too.” They stand to go give him a kiss, or a hug, or both, when the boat shakes dangerously. They narrow their eyes. “Do you even know how to pilot a boat?”
Colonnello smiles his most charming, self-assured smile, the one he uses when he wants to bullshit his way through his life. “I love you,” he says again.
*
BONUS:
Neither of them are the type to say “I love you” on the first date, but this isn’t actually their first date.
They had other dates before, but they thought it’d be funny to have a proper, official one for once.
You know, getting picked up and seeing what the others prepared and having things bought for you, all that. As opposed to being in the middle of hanging out and going “wait, this is a date” lol.
Next week it’s Viper’s turn, and they ask Lal for advice because this is not up their alley.
(They make it a routine in their relationship.)
------
You know the fics where Colonnello gets to know the other Arcobaleno through Lal? It’s like that in this verse too.
And Colonnello is immediately drawn to Viper because “What do you mean they’re always wearing their cape around? What do you mean no one knows what their face looks like? This is so cool, I need to find out more.”
(Colonnello’s type is the mysterious and/or inaccessible type lol.)
Viper doesn’t know what to think about his interest on them first. Then they find out how easily he can make them laugh, how much they smile around him.
(Viper does find him really funny but they’re never going to tell him that.)
(Viper falls hard and quick for him.)
And I don’t... feel like Lal and Colonnello are a romantic thing in this verse, but they might be.
But even if they are I pretty much always headcanon the Arcobaleno as polyamory because I’m a sucker for Polyamoy!Arcobaleno so, you know.
------
They absolutely fall in the river. And in the full the-boat-turned-upside-down way too. Do not ask them how.
(Viper still invites Colonnello to stay the night.)
