Shoji Gatoh's Full Metal Panic! light novel series will launch a new story as it approaches its 25th anniversary this year. The new story is set in the present day about two decades after the climax of the main story, which concluded with a volume published in 2010. The sequel follows the daily family life of the main leads Sōsuke and Chidori, now all grown-up.
The July 2023 issue of Kadokawa's Dragon Magazine published the opening excerpt of the new story, and the September 2023 issue will publish the full first chapter on July 20, 2023.
Gatoh posted on his blog that the new sequel story will have some comedy, but will not be as slapstick as another followup story, Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu. It will be a collection of short stories for light reading. He plans for "various characters" to appear after the first chapter. He half-seriously mused that the sequel could end in just one volume, keep going for around three volumes, or "depending on how things go, become an epic saga lasting over 20 volumes."
In January, Gatoh posted on Twitter a survey, asking if fans want to see Sōsuke when he is around 40. After about 75% of respondents said they did, Gatoh gave the sequel a shot. Before, he had personal reservations on depicting Sōsuke and Kaname after the main story's finale. However, when he heard the 25th anniversary was coming up, that strange hangup went away.
Gatoh added that he is also developing a completely new work unrelated to his previous projects.

Omegas are rare. Rarer than rare. Try one out of a hundred might possibly be an omega. So when the Euphoria Pack has a dinner meeting for a potential business partnership imagine their surprise when the find an omega being locked away like she's some sort of disease.
Alphas are born for one purpose and one purpose only: to worship their omega.
Apparently her father and brothers didn't get the memo.
Scent sympathetic, I always thought it was a myth until her. Until she climbed me like a fucking tree and pressed her nose against my scent gland. Once I smelled her, once she was in my arms, my body just knew. I can't leave her. I'd never let her go and no one else can have her.
The perfect woman. Right before my fucking eyes. Those lips, those sweet eyes, that adorable, if not a little scared smile, that fucking body. Built just for me and my other pack brothers.
Mine, mine, mine! Every cell in my body screamed it with frantic need.
Never in all my years did I think I would find the perfect omega for me and have to teach her how to be an omega. Jesus, her family seemed to not have done one right thing by her. She's obviously touch starved and her emotional needs are at an all time high because her brothers and father didn't have the decency to spare her an ounce of attention.
Don't get me wrong, I was going to enjoy spoiling the shit out of this little queen but it's fucking wrong how she'd been treated.
My princess, my omega, my fucking everything. One moment my life was fucking empty and incomplete and now this innocent little omega is going to take my heart and hold it in the palm of her delicate hand. Nothing ever made sense until her. Nothing will ever make sense again if she doesn't have my mark on her skin.
She felt like everything good within my embrace. It's not just her scent which was simply mouthwatering. It was her softness, her eagerness, her innocence.
She was a unicorn. So fucking rare, so fucking treasured already, so fucking…mine.
She's my unicorn.
I lived my life with a fake smile plastered to my face until she arrived. One look, even a small one as she was wrapped around Jimin and I found my purpose. She was like nothing I'd ever seen before and then suddenly, I knew the one and only reason why I existed. I existed to see her in my clothes, to dote on her, to mark her and spoil her. And everything else would always fall short.
Once Jimin came in cradling her to his body and I matched the sweet little thing to the scent… I was immediately taken.
And here she is, wanting me right back.
No one has ever wanted me before. Well, people have wanted my money. They've wanted the pack's money but they haven't liked me for me. I'm usually much too rigid for most women, alphas, betas or omegas.
But Y/N… she is goodness and innocence and light. She made me feel less dreary.
I don't know these men.
But I do. Sorta, anyway. All of them are strangers but it just felt so…right. They all smelled like home.
I couldn't stop myself from clinging to whoever called to me at the time. I should be absolutely ashamed of myself! Even now I'm hanging off of the pack leader like he's some sort of tree and I'm a great big sloth.
I know that it was probably some sort of 'weak omega bullshit' like my father liked to say but I just couldn't help myself.
They were all so kind to me and they all smelled delightful.
Finding My Pack Snippet:
"Something wrong," I whimpered, looking around.
I could feel my movements becoming frantic, my head was turning faster and my whimpers broke down into hysterical whines.
It felt… bizarre. It felt needy and I couldn't place it at all. Just what the fuck was this feeling?!
"Hey, hey, hey," Joon cooed, crossing the distance between us. "Omega, what's wrong? Tell your alpha, he'll fix it, sweet girl."
"I-I don't know! I just… it's itchy! I want something! But I-I don't… I don't know what it is!"
I was hyperventilating. My sentences were jumbling and my thoughts were scrambling under the weight of this new pressing need.
"Just follow your instincts," Namjoon breathed slowly, keeping a level head for me. "Just close your eyes for your alpha and tell him what you need."
I couldn't think, I couldn't listen I just shivered in his grasp and kept shaking my head.
"Fuck, I don't wanna do this," my alpha grunted, closing his eyes. "I'm sorry, Y/N."
"Omega!"
My eyes snapped to him at his sharp command and I whimpered in reply. The bite of his voice was something I probably should have been afraid of. I was always terrified when my father or brothers commanded me to do anything. But I was willing to listen to Namjoon. I wanted to.
"Be still!"
The quaking of my body ceased although my insides were still thrumming with unease.
"Close your eyes and tell your alpha what you need from him."
My eyelids slammed shut and I whined loudly, shoulders tensing. What did I need? I had no idea! I needed…
I needed… something but what?
"Good girl. Tell your alpha what's wrong."
I needed… Namjoon.
Yoongi.
Taehyung.
Jimin.
Jeongguk.
Hoseok.
Seokjin.
I need them.
"My pack," I sobbed, opening my eyes.

FMP: Inspiring Visual Moodboard, 1970's Naive Illustration. LO2:
Collecting imagery to inform my visual approach. My mum showed me her old memory card games (featured in this selection) that made me think to naive illustration for this project. I envision this style working best in form of risograph, but I'd like to conduct experimentations to decide the approach.

Been reading the FMP light novels and side stories and stumbled upon this gem in one of the side stories.
The side story is entitled: "Captain Amigo and Golden Days"
Synopsis: Kurz and Sousuke embark on a treasure hunt
And when Kurz asked him what he will do with the money, he thought of fishing on a yacht with Chidori. And he felt happy 😊
Awww my babies 🥺❤ And this was set between volumes 1-3 of the light novels, if I' not mistaken.
