Free haul from the Hero Fest! I’m pretty happy with it, three I didn’t have before, a B!Veronica merge and Fallen Male Corrin has some pretty great fodder.

Also I find it a little funny that despite not being a Fates fan I now have every Male Corrin in the pool. Might as well spend a few grails to finish the collection.

Now I just need to try and not spend orbs trying to get Micaiah, Camilla or Marth to finish up my CYL collection.

I’ve been sad about that too so thank you for rectifying that situation ❤

How do I feel about this character?

My girl. I love Sumia so much, she is one of my absolute favorite characters in Awakening and one I will never pass up an opportunity to write. I love her and how passionate she is about books, how deeply invested she gets in the stories and characters and how she uses them both as an escape from her own life (where she can’t help but dwell on her own shortcomings) and as a source of inspiration and courage. There’s something intensely relatable about wanting an escape like that, feeling outclassed or useless and getting lost in a book as a way to cope -- and yet she’s so capable, even if she doesn’t recognize it herself. She seems so used to people looking down on her or criticizing what she does or making fun of her slip-ups that she’s started to really believe all of it, when the reality is that her mistakes have never been her defining trait: seeing her learn to embrace her own skills and talents is so heartwarming and I find myself constantly rooting for her to succeed in everything.

Who do I ship this character with romantically?

Sully!! Sully and Sumia is one of my favorite ships in all of Awakening, honestly: I love these two ladies who are so gung-ho about horses and bond over that mutual interest and I love the idea of them getting together and learning more about each other, bolstering one another’s confidence (Sully reassuring Sumia that she’s more capable than she thinks and offering to train her if it would make her feel more assured, Sumia insisting that Sully doesn’t need to be girly to be a woman and gushing about how she admires the cavalier) and falling for one another in the process. It’s just really warm and I love it a lot, and given how encouraging they are in their supports, I really think they’d be a fantastic match for each other.

Also, I do love her with Chrom, and I feel like she’d be an encouraging influence for him, doing what she can to give him confidence and help him keep moving forward in spite of the obstacles; she’s such a bright and refreshing character and I think they could end up working really well together, leveraging their individual strengths to make the halidom a better place. And I really enjoy her with Robin, too, considering how they bond over their mutual love of books, and I think Robin would be one of those people who really can see her for who she is, rather than the klutz she sees herself as. It’s especially good when it’s both of them together with her though (yes I love my OT3).

Who is my brOTP for this character?

Robin and Sully, when I’m not shipping them! Their relationships are so strong and they’re founded on such deep rooted friendship that even when I have them in other relationships, those bonds remain. Also, even though she doesn’t have any supports with him in the game (which is criminal), I love the idea of a Sumia and Kellam friendship. Kellam is someone who struggles to be noticed, Sumia’s someone who often seems to wish she could disappear. The idea of them coming together and overcoming their obstacles together is really heartwarming to me.

What’s my Unpopular Opinion™ about this character?

She’s so much more capable than fandom wants to give her credit for. Most people seem to write her off as stupid, passing over her as a brainless klutz in favor of the “genius” Cordelia -- but this is such a disservice to Sumia and her character. She’s a fantastic fighter if given the chance, outrunning and outmaneuvering enemies, and while the game loves to play her off as comic relief, she’s a character with interesting, thoughtful support conversations whose life clearly doesn’t revolve around getting a man’s attention. She’s her own person with hopes and dreams, hobbies and interests, unique skills and charming quirks, and bothering to get to know her really allows her to shine.

And personally, I don’t think she’s actually that clumsy. Sure, she can be a little scatterbrained sometimes, but even the smartest and most capable people can be; when she has too many things to juggle she slips up in comic ways, but when push comes to shove she’s incredibly capable; if she weren’t, she never would have been able to rescue Chrom at the Longfort (sometimes I think people forget that she’s the one who swept in and got him clear of the javelins).

(And for a bonus unpopular opinion: I hate Cordelia and Sumia as a ship. Cordelia is so mean to Sumia in their supports, banning Sumia from telling her flower fortunes because she personally doesn’t see value in them -- she doesn’t even bother trying to understand what Sumia’s doing or why, she just decides that her own way is the only right way, which is not how friends should act; putting them in a relationship is out of the question for me.)

What’s one thing I wish would have happened with this character in canon?

Why does she have so few supports? It’s not fair that she can so easily end up alone because the game limits her options so much; aside from Chrom, she has the fewest marriage options, but unlike him she doesn’t have an auto-marriage after a certain point. It’s not fair that the game treated her that way, and I wish canon had given her more supports, platonic and romantic both. Again, seeing her with Kellam would have been incredible, and I really wish they’d bothered to give her a support chain with Maribelle, too, considering how Maribelle treats her early on; it would have been amazing to see them work things out.

How do I feel about this character?

I have never played Fates. I know about these games purely through fandom osmosis. And yet I will say, in no uncertain terms, that Takumi is my absolute favorite Fates character. Fallen Takumi is still one of my very few units at +10 merges in Heroes because I love him that much. And it’s kind of hilarious how it came to this because it’s kind of Heroes’ fault that I’m in this situation.

I remember when the game first launched how much of a pain he was in the early Arena before Skill Inheritance was a thing, and how the only reliable counter I had for him was Hector because I’d never gotten Takumi myself. And then one day he randomly showed up in a summon, and I was so excited I ran off to train him immediately...and realized as I did that this guy has some massive self-esteem problems. It’s what got me interested in him in the first place, enough to do some digging in the wikis, and I kind of fell in love with his character: he’s smart, he’s capable, but he has a massive inferiority complex since he’s grown up in the shadow of his older brother -- something Corrin’s return manages to make worse, since everyone kind of loses their minds over it and pushes him down and away despite the fact that he’s the only one being sensible and questioning whether they can really trust Corrin after they were brought up in Nohr. While he has an attitude problem that needs to be addressed (though it’s nowhere near as bad as Felix’s), he can get better and gain confidence in himself and his abilities...but in Conquest, his fate is an absolutely tragic one, where his self-doubt and anger allow Anankos a foothold, something to prey upon, and ultimately lead to his loss of control, loss of self, and loss of life. His story just really hits me in the heart, kind of like Lyon, and I just want to see him grow and overcome his doubts.

Who do I ship this character with romantically?

Okay so this is probably where my not having played the game is going to bite me but I have no idea. There are so many characters in Fates and I don’t even know half of them. I know Leo is a popular partner for him but I’ve never really seen the chemistry there so I can’t say that’s for me; I could always cheat and say I ship him with happiness because honestly that is true, I really do want him to be happy first and foremost, but I don’t have an actual character answer whoops.

Who is my brOTP for this character?

Azura. I love the idea of the two of them coming together as friends, both haunted and hounded by nightmares and terrible thoughts they can’t seem to shake, and finding ways to support one another through it. I get the feeling that Takumi might have treated Azura with some distrust early on, but despite the fact that she came from Nohr, I honestly think they could have ended up having a close bond in Hoshido growing up as they struggle with their own problems, and it would have been amazing to see them come together to overcome them. Also, I love the idea of him and Sakura being close as siblings, with Takumi protecting Sakura and helping draw attention off her when she’s feeling especially shy while she tries to encourage him and give him a place where he can relax with and get away from all his issues for a little while, someone he can enjoy himself with and not have to think about his problems.

What’s my Unpopular Opinion™ about this character?

I actually don’t know what kind of popular opinions there are about Takumi so I have no idea what kind of unpopular opinion I could have. Honestly I don’t see anywhere near enough to Takumi in general since he seems to be eclipsed by not only his older brother but the Nohrian royals in fandom-wide popularity; is it an unpopular opinion to want more people to give him a chance, rather than writing him off as just an angry nay-sayer? Because honestly, he is the only one with any sense, since he’s the only one who thinks to distrust Corrin when they return.

What’s one thing I wish would have happened with this character in canon?

Okay so this is really really niche but I really wish they’d made Takumi Corrin’s half-brother rather than just a step-brother. It honestly would have made so much sense? Takumi’s the only other character who has the same kind of pale hair that Corrin canonically does, even if it’s not the exact same shade, so if that came from Mikoto it would fit perfectly with not only Corrin’s and Takumi’s hair color, but Sakura’s hair being that super pale pink compared to Hinoka’s vibrant red, which is what you’d probably expect from Ikona and Sumeragi after Ryoma inherited his father’s very dark hair. I get the feeling they didn’t do it because they wanted to make all the royals available as romance options, which is both cheap and gross (and after what they did with Azura in Revelations it’s worse), but I think it would have been a really interesting plot element if they’d taken the time.

So you mention not being sure how the Corrins meet up. Is it possible that they might meet Azura in a dream, warning them that the danger isn't past yet and there's still more to this conflict than meets the eye, and ultimately prompting them to try searching the Outrealms and finding each other? Since she doesn't appear in the story physically, having Azura make an appearance in the beginning as a "dream" (in the same way that Corrin has a dream of Mikoto and their fallen siblings during the final battle) might offer some closure for her story, too.

For the Gen2 aspect...out of curiosity, how does Kana even come to be? Given that Fallen!Corrin is implied to have gravely wounded Azura during that initial transformation -- which prevents him from getting his dragonstone -- I initially expected that he would immediately try to isolate himself once he realized what he'd done, to prevent any further harm from coming to his family or friends. Does he actually stick around, instead?

Related to the above point (and possible way around the whole 'teenage parent' issue?): what if, because of Fallen!Corrin's lack of control over his powers and attempts to isolate himself, Azura wasn't able to make or keep sustained contact with him, effectively allowing the war between Nohr and Hoshido to drag on because Corrin wasn't getting involved as early or as often and doing so only when he felt assured that he could control his draconic impulses? This could lead to a situation where things drag on to such an extent that the parents are all in their 20's before having kids, and only do so once Corrin has finally brought the Nohrian and Hoshidan sides together, however uneasy the truce might feel sometimes; things just end up happening while they're trying to figure out how they'll make their final assault, especially with Corrin still struggling so much for control.

Do you really have to pair everybody up, though? I feel your pain with the shipping stuff, but if you're not getting into too deep of detail with the branch of fate those kids hail from, you can always just give them the default appearances and have them place focus on their fathers (aside from Shigure, who would emphasize his mom) if parental discussions come up. Since it's not the timeline either of the story's major Corrins hail from, I think you could successfully handwave it off if you don't want to deal with that level of detail.

I think those are the big ones and also I'm deeply intrigued by all of the possible character interactions this story promises I cannot wait to hear more about it ❤

1) While I think both Corrins know already something is up (though they obviously don’t know how much they’re right), the Azuras from both worlds absolutely have an hand in them meeting each other (in a moment which I’m going to cheekily call from now on the Merge of Fate because it fits way too well), and to point them at the Dragon’s Gate to begin with. In general, a personal headcanon I have is that both the Outrealm Gate in Awakening and the Dragon’s Gate in Fates are in really secluded locations, despite the maps hinting otherwise, and very few know they even exist at all. Mainly because if this wasn’t the case, knowledge of other worlds would be much more widespread, not to mention we’d see a lot more familiar faces around. (further more, there’s at least one Outrealm Gate in every world as Heroes proves) But back to the main point, I like the idea of Azura showing up in a dream! Though I think I’m going to have her show up different for each world: Kamui sees Azura in a dream (after hearing Sakura freaking out about seeing Azura’s ghost, because no way she’s gonna pass up the opportunity of spooking her as a ghost after spooking her with ghost stories when she was alive), while Corrin meets Azura’s ghost at the lake. Iirc unlike in BR Corrin never knows for sure if Azura’s dead, so I imagine she visits the lake whenever she can, just in case she sees Azura there again. Maybe I could even have her spirit form be made of water to reference KH3! I’m not sure how much I’m going to have her help after that, too. Obviously she’s not going to stick around with the party, but the thing is I don’t know how much she’s able to do as a spirit, I’m gonna have to play Heirs of Fate to get some answers. 2) To be honest, I feel Corrin has to stick around at first, because the Nohrian army starts advancing immediately after the attack at the capital, and he can’t even know what actually happened since Azura is unconscious (tiny bonus: Takumi while lashing out at Corrin mourns Azura along with his mother since he thinks Corrin killed her in his dragon state). The reason Corrin meets up with the Nohrians in canon is trying to get both sides to stop fighting, so I feel this Corrin would do it too. But in this Branch of Fate, Corrin’s dragon blood ends up making the choice for him, which leads to being hunted down by both nations due to being a threat (while a bit forced I feel it’s still better than the complete 180 both families do in Rev for no reason) so he’s on his own (mostly), but after that... I don’t know yet, honestly? I don’t know much about Revelation, so this part is kinda on hold until I play it. As for Kana, well... I’ll admit it’s kinda weird, but at the same time I really, really want to include her. 3) Ooh, this is a neat idea and I think it would work! Would make a lot of sense that things in this timeline would go a lot less smooth even before the final battle. Also it’s starting to sink in the fact that Fallen Corrin’s world is an AU in itself. Why do I do this to myself? 4) Yeah, I was thinking about it too and honestly keeping the parents ambiguous would save me a lot of headaches. Heck, I don’t even think I’m going to include everyone from Gen 1 and Gen 2, because Fates has way too many characters. Or at least, characters I’m not much interested will get mentioned at first but not being given much spotlight, I think that’s the best solution. Thank you so much for the ask, sorry I took so long to answer! <3 I’m so eager to explore character interactions too I’ll hope to write something about it soon even if I don’t think the story itself is gonna take a lot of time to be ready. Heck, I’m surprised I’m even planning it to begin with, the few stories I wrote this I just went “wing it” since I tend to overthink and just not do them otherwise.

For some brainstorming now...

I actually pondered pulling on this banner because Triandra and Hel are units I want. But I was going to pass it because, well, I was saving.

Now I’m obvisouly pulling, so the added Annette makes Green perfect as a secondary choice.

The shared units with Claude are also perfect for me: I don’t have Mila; Leif is one of my favorite Lord and I don’t have him either. Both are very strong and even if I get wrecked by the gacha (I will) I’ll still end up with a big score increase either in Arena or AR.

Also as much as I hate Claude being Earth it’s actually sort of good for me? I have a +3 Grima but she’s not doing much.... And in Wind I wanted to merge Corrin anyway.

So yeah, looking at the stats I’ll get a +4 Claude if I’m lucky... Ideally I’m getting Triandra along the way.

Then we save I guess, probably spark on AHR if Corrin makes it there.

Claude in himself is what I wanted for him.

Different playstyle from his Brave version, ie covering a different niche so they aren’t redundant.

Flying + Ranged + Gravity + NFU are all VERY strong for Arena for various reasons (AI tricking, Guidance, Hit and run, etc.).

I’ve been playing two seasons with NFU and I knew it was good, but I underestimated HOW good it was. It’s really, really strong, and with Fallen Star there’s a chance Claude can actually survive stuff like Special Fighter-Bonfire B!Hector. He’ll die to L!Leif for sure. Probably survives L!Alm.

Anywyay, good stuff.

What are some good budget builds for F2P units for AR-O and AR-D? I have some units I want to build, like NY!Keaton, Female Corrin, Seliph. I have two spares of DC that I will give to Corrin and Seliph.

So...Seiros is the Next Mythic, Huh? Well, I’ll be going for L!Dimitri anyway, so if I get her I won’t be disappointed. I would like Lif as well because I STILL never got him since his debut banner came out.

I would like Flayn as well but I really want to focus on Blue and Red. If none show up on a circle then I’ll go with colorless as a backup. I..Don’t really need anything from Green. I already have Yune and Thrasir and I don’t know who Dieck is so I don’t really want him.

As for the others, I already have Eir(The free one from book 3) and Alm but If I get them then I’ll just merge them.

I don’t have Catherine but I do have Roy but I’ll be okay with both. Roy is my boy and I can just merge him up.

I have Legendary Julia and I don’t want another one.

And please have mercy on me banner. When Dimitri came out on his debut banner there was only one unit I had on blue(M!Fallen!Corrin) and of course that was the only blue 5 star I got on the banner. Didn’t get Dimitri or Chrom.

Don’t do this to me again. don’t just give me Julia and not the two I don’t have and really want.

Please I beg you. I just want Dimitri and Lif. I’ll be kind of Okay if I get Seiros or Flayn but I really want those two. PLEASE.

I remember skill inheritance being added and suddenly Reinhardt was absolutely everywhere and unless you specifically ran TA Cecilia or something in that vein you were dead anytime you ran into a decently worked on one, especially if they had an Azura or Olivia with them. Not to mention DC and CC were each on a single unit unless you used one of the few DC weapon characters...

Ayra was great when she got added but cav emblem was still god at her point to where they had to create a new terrain just to slow them down. (Trenches didn’t come out till Jan 2018)

And that’s without addressing stuff happening like 5* Priscilla, Sakura, Kagero (who at least had a niche but), any 4-5 really. 4-5 was the most frustrating aspect to summoning they had because 5* could pity break you but you couldn’t get merge copies easily because lower was only 4*.”

Then I guess you didn’t? I dunno, I wasn’t around year 1, but I have no desire to know what it was like. I’m pretty happy with the game overall, despite my constant complaints. That is still very much how I am as a person. But for the most part, I have a lot of favorites in, and I’m really just waiting on Ashera and Limstella to know inner peace. Which is what I care about most. I don’t care if someone’s a common or even all that good. I just want my favorites here. Fingers crossed on Fallen Limstella GHB, and Ashera in May with Claude and Corrin.

okay I spent all of my orbs and got two L!Chroms, and one Fallen M!Corrin. Of course I was going for Dimitri, but at least now I’ve got another merge for Fallen Corrin and more close counter fodder. I may have had bad luck this time, but I’m just hoping Dimitri doesn’t become my next Hríd, as in never coming home no matter how many hundreds of orbs I spend :/

Hall of Forms can be kind of fun.

*wastes last stamina torch for the day because we couldn’t kill a bloated F!F!Corrin*

Nvm........

Why the fuck are stamina torches so limited??? Why the fuck are the rest of them locked behind the highest chambers with the most bloated units? Why can’t units like F!Tiki be removed from the randomized enemy pool? They did so with Surtr......

Like how you gonna give us some dusty gen 2 cav units and Leif and then match us up with Larcei’s, Ingrene’s and Fallen Corrin’s reaching upwards of 60 speed while none of these units, barring Leif, can reach mid 40s speed without being super merged. They really need to do some difficulty balancing. If we’re using only Gen 2 units then we shouldn’t be fighting units that have more bloated stats than that. Like it’s bad enough we have to struggle with RNG to STOP giving Reinhardt bullshit like Darting Blow and my Olwen hasn’t even seen her fucking prf weapon nor has she been offered any playerphase skills.

LIKE IM JUST TRYNA FISH FOR PREMIUM SKILLS FOR FINN MAN STOP FUCKING UP MY RUNS!
