hm false value also starts with chapters alternating with now & the past month. That's a pretty different way to start the story than the last 7 books have used.

...quite a high percentage of the public have all the survival instincts of a moth in a candle factory. They run the wrong way, they refuse to move, some will run towards the danger, and others will instantly whip out their phones and take footage.

I've just finished False Value and there's a delightful little interview with Ben Aaronovitch and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith at the end of the audiobook, honestly it made my day

📚 March Reading Round-Up 📚
I honestly did not have the time to read much, and only finished two books. I did start a few others that I hope to finish in April.
- Throne of Jade by Naomi Novik (worked great as an audiobook, very compelling and gripping, heart-wrenching and healing at the same time, loved Temeraire’s revolutionary spirit, and loved the worldbuilding of this universe’s China)
- False Value by Ben Aaronovitch (fun, clever plot twists, some more trans rep, great focus on ethics and morality as usual, very tech-oriented, great character interactions, and more cool worldbuilding)

“You are important.”
“I’m really worried about you. You need to take care of yourself, because you’re not okay, we can see it. are you drinking water and eating?”
“You’re scaring me. cause I know that you’re not okay, but I can do nothing.”
“Every day I hope to find something about the eggs because I can’t stand seeing q!Bad sad anymore”
“He’s changing every day, turning into something like a ghost… I’m so worried, it’s like at any moment he could just disappear.”
“I feel powerless. I think q!Bad is suffering a lot, but he doesn't admit it. I really want to help him, I've been thinking really hard about how to help him”
“He took me around, we hang out, he helped me a lot and gave me items. He is my best friend. I don’t know what I should do…”
ough q!bagi. every time she talks about q!bad it makes my heart break, she is so kind. they’ve known each other a week, but she says with her whole chest that this is my best friend and I Will find a way to help. she is the only person q!bad has straightforwardly admitted not being ok to. I’m so….

"you give me one fucking prophecy!!!"
Lou Wilson mourning the plot line he thought he would have, just like so many heroes who got just one goddamned prophecy before him

Born on this day: British artist Joseph Henry Lynch (28 October 1911 – 16 January 1989), far better known simply as “J H Lynch”. When it comes to kitsch mid-twentieth century art, his only rivals are Vladimir Tretchikoff and of course the Keanes. No home is complete without a framed print of Lynch’s mass-produced idealized portraits of bouffant-haired, false-eyelashed temptresses like Tina, Woodland Goddess, Water Nymph or Autumn Leaves (pictured). If you go to a vintage furniture flea market and there are NO J H Lynch prints on offer, walk out immediately!

I dont like how I can see a lot of people still conflating nakedness/bare skin/their subjective assessment of what constitutes "simple" clothing with a lack of cultural worth, diversity, and complexity.....

People are often short-sighted and stupid, right up to the point where they’re fucking perceptive – that point usually being the most inconvenient moment possible.

you guys i have so many thoughts about tdr. i have so much to say. like i don't want to be super mean but dude that comic fucking sucks and i can't lie i think it made me kind of homophobic actually
#my stance up to now has been that i don't really care about tim/ber but now that i have read this. dude...#it sucks that they gave a canon queer tim narrative to someone who uses homophobia as shock value and virtue signaling points#and who actively tears down characters who don't like her special little uwu flawless oc (kate im so fucking sorry)#there's no substance to this relationship i don't see why they even like each other#bc she keeps just stating oh they're perfect they make each other so happy but she doesn't like. show that at all#and i HATE the shock value homophobia like i cannot overstate how much i hate it#oh these random cops are homophobic (that's how you know they're BAD!)#oh bernard's parents are homophobic (that's how you know THEY'RE bad too!)#it's so hamfisted and it reads like such. cheap storytelling#especially bc tim as narrator doesn't even get to have ANY thoughts on his own queerness or seeing this homophobia in the world around him#and then she can't go more than two pages without being like BTW BERNARD IS THE BEST EVER AND TIM CAN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT HIM#while against this ugly backdrop of shock value homophobia#there's no substance to this relationship. why do they even like each other. it just falls apart if you examine it at all#because she just is fundamentally incapable of writing either of them as people with character flaws#for fucks sake she can't even be consistent with tim's BASIC character tenets. ''i always dreamed of being batman'' false lmao#but then to follow it up with ''i never wanted to be batman i always wanted to be my dad''#and then on TOP OF THAT to make the Only mention of Jack drake and his impact on tim's life ABOUT BERNARD AGAIN.#yeah sorry im a hater now. this was shit tier#rimi talks

Il y a une fausse modestie, qui est vanité ; une fausse gloire, qui est légèreté ; une fausse grandeur, qui est mesquinerie ; une fausse vertu, qui est hypocrisie, et une fausse sagesse, qui est pruderie.
