"Today's #falsefriends is a classic pair of "false friends" When our colleague Iris was learning German, she was once fooled by them "der Chef" in German and "the chef" in English.

In English, "the chef" refers to the soul of a restaurant - "the chef/ the cook "der Chef" actually means the person in charge of the company - "the boss"

Iris remembers the day (before she learned the tricky German word) when she went to a shop to buy something in Germany, the salesperson of the shop said "Ein Moment bitte, Ich muss zuerst meinen Chef fragen." (one second please, I have to ask my boss).

At that time, she did not understand at all why he had to check with a cook to see if their store sells USB with large capacity?"
