Love is in Da Blog - Feb 22: Ken Curtis - Colorado actor-singer #LoIsInDaBl23
The Feb. 22nd Love is in Da Blog musical prompt is a love song from an artist in my region. I’ve been eager for this prompt in order to post a song by Colorado native Ken Curtis. Stay with me, because I’m a bit verbose as I lead up to today’s love song, I’ll Take You Home Again, Kathleen. Curtis Wain Gates, aka Ken Curtis (1916 – 1991), was born and raised near Lamar, Colorado, which is 50 miles…

TV Guide -  December 1 - 7, 1962
Martin Ingerman (March 9, 1936 – October 21, 2015), known professionally as Marty Ingels.  Actor, comedian, comedy sketch writer and theatrical agent, who is best known as the co-star of the 1960s television series I'm Dickens, He's Fenster.
He guest-starred on the CBS sitcoms Pete and Gladys, The Ann Sothern Show, and Hennesey. He also appeared in one episode of ABC's Bewitched as "Diaper Dan", who plants a microphone bug in Tabitha's rattle so a competing advertising agency can scoop and steal Darrin's ideas. He appeared twice as Sol Pomeroy, an army buddy of the character Rob Petrie, on CBS's The Dick Van Dyke Show. In 1978, Ingels guest starred in Season Two, Episode One of The Love Boat.  (Wikipedia)
John Allen Astin (born March 30, 1930) Stage, film and television actor and director who has appeared in numerous stage, television and film roles. He is best known for starring in The Addams Family (1964–1966), as patriarch Gomez Addams, reprising the role in the television film Halloween with the New Addams Family (1977) and the animated series The Addams Family (1992–1993).
Astin started in theater, making his first Broadway appearance as an understudy in Major Barbara, and also did voice-over work for commercials. His first big break in film came with a small role in West Side Story (1961).
During this period, his talent for also playing comedy was spotted by actor Tony Randall, leading to guest starring roles on the sitcom Dennis the Menace, starring Jay North; The Donna Reed Show; and Harrigan and Son, starring Pat O'Brien, the first carried on CBS and the latter two carried on ABC. In 1961, Astin appeared in the final episode of the ABC police drama The Asphalt Jungle.
During the 1962–63 television season, Astin had his first lead in a television series, the ABC sitcom I'm Dickens, He's Fenster, co-starring with Marty Ingels. Astin played Harry Dickens to Ingels's Arch Fenster, as two trouble-prone carpenters. The series combined witty dialogue with moments of slapstick comedy. I'm Dickens, He's Fenster received critical raves, but was against two high-rated shows, Sing Along with Mitch on NBC and Route 66 on CBS. By the time I'm Dickens, He's Fenster gained a following and started winning its time slot, ABC had already canceled the show. 32 episodes were produced.
Astin is perhaps best known for The Addams Family, a popular sitcom that ran on ABC from 1964 to 1966, based on cartoons created by Charles Addams.
Astin joined the retooled The Pruitts of Southampton (re-titled The Phyllis Diller Show) for the second half of the 1966–67 season, playing Diller's brother-in-law, Angus Pruitt. He also played the Riddler in the second season of Batman (Frank Gorshin returned for the third and final season.) He played submarine commander Matthew Sherman on the 1970s television series Operation Petticoat. He also made several appearances in the first two seasons of the popular mystery series Murder, She Wrote, as scheming real estate developer (and finally Sheriff) Harry Pierce, who ends up as the murderer in his last episode.  Astin starred in the cult classic TV film Evil Roy Slade (1972).  He had a recurring role on the sitcom Night Court as Buddy, eccentric former mental patient and the father of lead character Harry Stone. Astin played the regular role of Ed LaSalle on the short-lived Mary Tyler Moore sitcom Mary during the 1985–86 television season. He also guest starred on numerous television series, including appearances on Duckman, Homeboys in Outer Space, Jack Palance's ABC circus drama The Greatest Show on Earth, and a 1967 episode of Gunsmoke as Festus Haggen's cousin Henry. Coyotes Ranch.
Art by Rafael Gallur.
If you love westerns, you might want to check out Coyotes Ranch, a Mexican comic book series that puts a spicy twist on the classic TV show Gunsmoke. Coyotes Ranch is inspired by Gunsmoke, which starred James Arness as Marshal Matt Dillon, the lawman of Dodge City, Kansas. Gunsmoke was a popular and long-running series that aired from 1955 to 1975 and showed the adventures and challenges of life in the Wild West. Gunsmoke has been adapted into many other forms of media, such as radio, novels, movies, and video games.
But Coyotes Ranch is not just a copy of Gunsmoke. It has its own style and personality. Here are some of the differences between the two series:
Coyotes Ranch is a comic book series that started in 1994 and is still going strong, while Gunsmoke was a TV series that ended in 1975.
Coyotes Ranch is published in Mexico by Editorial Toukan, while Gunsmoke was filmed in various places in the US, such as California, Utah, and Arizona.
Coyotes Ranch stars Billy, a bounty hunter who chases down outlaws and seduces women along the way, while Gunsmoke had a large ensemble of characters, such as Miss Kitty, Doc Adams, Chester Goode, Festus Haggen, and more.
Coyotes Ranch is a fun and sexy series that features explicit scenes of Billy's escapades with different ladies, while Gunsmoke was a serious and realistic series that portrayed the harsh realities of the frontier.
So if you're looking for a comic book series that combines Western action with humor and erotica, you might want to give Coyotes Ranch a try. It's based on Gunsmoke, but it's definitely not for kids!

You know, “The Bullet: part 3” would’ve been a good penultimate series finale for Gunsmoke. The next episode could have been the finale. Because he almost lost the ability to walk, Matt finally decides enough is enough, and it’s time to retire. So maybe he catches his last bad guy or two, and then Washington DC allows him to retire. And he and Kitty get married and basically retire together. 🥰🥰🥰
The End, everybody go home now.
(I hate when studio greed makes a show go on past its shelflife. That happens way too often.)

So I’m always surprised when a particular design does well on my redbubble thing.
This one in particular - especially when I see where the sales are from.
They’re all quotes from Festus Haggen, the “scruffy, cantankerous, and illiterate deputy” in Gunsmoke  - one of the few old westerns that mostly holds up by today standards, even though it started on TV in ‘55, and ended in ‘75.
I’ve even written about how it was great about not forcing people into relationships for drama, and Festus in particular seemed to have no interest in anyone, ever.  Yeah.  I like Gunsmoke.  I’ll eventually go into why it was overall, a really progressive show, from the beginning.
So this is Festus:
Tumblr media
He was the goofy sidekick, but had the best one-liners.
Anyway.  It’s not just that the things sell, but *where*.  I really want to know - who in the UK is wearing a “hold yer taters” shirt.
I do appreciate the “shut your tater trap” mask, person in KY.
I guess the question is, are they buying them because of Gunsmoke, or because the words of Festus Haggen are just that universal and timeless?
I’d really love to know.
If you want to see the things I sell with his words of wisdom, you can see them all here.

WILL WORK FOR MONEY
So my wierd situation wherein I am flat broke and semi-homeless is going to last longer than I'd previously thought.  And I’ve been sitting on this post thinking that it sounds “needy” or whatever.  But fuck it, I’m needy right now.
So here I go, with a list of skills I'd like to be paid for.  I’ll do a bullet point list, then you can check the “read more” if you want more detail.
Redbubble.  No consistent art style, lots of “oh this would look neat/make a cool tshirt” stuff, but also a lot of stuff I put a lot of work into.  Lots.
Scanning/digitizing.  Documents, slides, negatives, photographs...all the physical things that can be scanned. I can be your OCR.
Photo touch-ups/alterations. I can remove creases/stains, do some color correction or make it look like Elvis officiated your wedding.
Cat pictures.  I can send So many cat pictures, as long as you like black cats and/or fuzzy...tabbies?  Not sure what you call her, but she’s super cute.
- I have a redbubble.  I'm not consistent, in terms of an "art" style, so hey.  Give it a look. I've put a lot of hours into this stuff, and I haven't been great at putting it out there.  A couple that have been popular are the Festus Haggen collection and the Radium clock face - you can get that on a clock, which I love.  OH and lots of queer stuff, perfect for gift-giving or showing prominently when family visit.
Tumblr media
Digital photo editing - Making it look like you got married by an Elvis impersonator. - Making your teeth whiter, removing the big of squish at the armpit, that kind of thing.  This would be paid by the hour - $15/hr.
Tumblr media
- Touching touch up old/damaged photographs.  Creases, tears, stains. Can sharpen and fix the contrast as well.  I can even remove stuff from messy floors! This would be paid by the hour - $15/hr.
Tumblr media
Scanning/digitizing: - Scanning photos, slides and negatives, so you can have good-quality digital versions. The below picture is from a printed photograph.  Asking 65¢ each slide, $2 each standard negative strip, $1 each printed photo.  I can do touchups for extra.
Tumblr media
- Documents - I can scan them in, pdf them.  I can also retype them so you have a text file as well.  I can be your OCR. 25¢ page simple scanning, OCR/texitfying will be $5 each standard 8.5x11″ page.
- Cat pictures.  These are the cats.
Tumblr media
I’ve also been known to do audio transcribing, so if you’ve been recording your novel or plague memoirs on your phone, I can type it up for you.  I’m pretty good at formatting, as well.

More 20 something should watch Gunsmoke.
And here’s just a few reasons why.
Tumblr media
Matt Dillion.
He's in love with Ms. Kitty, but he's also in love with Festus, and because he doesn't understand his feelings and doesn't want to except the part of him that likes men, he unfortunately leads them both on for many years. It’s very conflicting for him. He has feelings for both and doesn’t want to hurt either.
Tumblr media
Chester Goode
He's a charismatic little shit. he gets around with anyone and everyone. He's pansexual and he gets all the men and all the women. Being so openly and unapologetically a horndog he helps Matt to except he can be in love with both of them, but he's gotta choose cause neither of them are big enough to share.
Tumblr media
Ms. Kitty Russel
A hopeless romantic who's hopelessly in love with Matt. She's unfortunately straight. And she's got her heart and eyes set on Matt. She's not fully aware of what him and Festus have going for each other, but she is fully aware Matt won't commit and it hurts her and makes her angry. But she keeps a close friendship with him because at the end of the day, she still cares for him, deeply.
Tumblr media
Festus Haggen
My favourite. Festus. Gay af. He sucks with women, and literally doesn't understand why. But it's really because he's got deep feelings for Matt. He considers himself Matt's best friend and does everything in his power to be around him all the damn time. Needed help realizing the reason he is why he is. Took a bit to come to terms with it, but dude loves himself so much. It wasn’t hard.
Tumblr media
Quint Asper
Festus' good pal Quint. Who is the first to point out to him that he's awful clingy with Matt and that maybe the reason his luck with women is in the negatives is cause he's after something else. Which leads to Festus knocking him one, wrestling. They stop, get a drink, and talk about it.He manages to convince Festus nothing is wrong with him and he's still his friend. Quint is straight and deserves love.
Tumblr media
Thad Greenwood
A sweet boy from Oklahoma who’s just trying to find the man that hurt his dad. A gentle giant. He’s somewhere on the gray ace spectrum. A true gentleman. He’s very sweet and shy and slow to get close to people. Needs to be protected at literally all costs, he’s pure.
Tumblr media
Doc Adams
He's in his 60/70s, he's single, never had a wife or kids. And he's so fucking fed up watching all of his friend think with their genitals. He's 100% asexual and he's so tired of the drama. He thinks Matt and Festus should just kiss already, and Kitty deserves to find someone who's willing to settle down with her. He loves them all dearly, but if he has to hear about their love troubles one more time, he’ll crack. He’s so tired.
