Mike Mignola's character design for Corum Jhaelen Irsei, an aspect of Michael Moorcock's Eternal Champion.

Mignola went on to draw The Chronicles of Corum limited series (1986-1988) for First Comics, which had the Moorcock license at the time. Proud to say I still have all those comics in my collection.

Note: Betelgeuse is a red giant at the end of its life, suspected to go supernova in our lifetime (that is, it's unstable).

Steve Rude's cover to Crossroads #5 from the late, lamented First Comics, featuring Nexus, Dreadstar, and Grimjack.

In the mid/late '80s, after DC Comics' Crisis on Infinite Earths and Marvel's Secret Wars, it seemed like even independent comic book publishers felt compelled to do massive crossover mini-series, featuring all their characters.

The two that immediately come to mind are First Comics, with Crossroads, and Eclipse Comics' Total Eclipse.
