Started reading Lord of the Rings for the first time earlier today so here are some things I remember before I go into work:

The prologue reads kind of like a textbook of Hobbits and took a while to read, but it was interesting.

Bilbo still gets dwarves visiting! And Gandalf!

The party was huge and Bilbo's speech was funny and worth it with everyone's reactions to his disappearance lol

The power of the Ring over Bilbo is a little scary, but he resisted. :)

Bilbo left with three dwarves!! Who are they??

Most everything left to Frodo

A long time later, Gandalf tells Frodo the history of the ring, more or less, including the story of Gollum

Sam! Bag End has no eaves! He could not have been dropping eaves!

The riders on the road... actually terrifying.

I'm just a few pages into reading The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, and I already have many thoughts, but the most proment right now is something my grandfather used to say:

You can move once you get your affairs in order. There might be a dissonance between wanting to go and (being able to) take the necessary steps. Try to go over the process more closely and think of what you can change.

Maybe you should look for (information about) available houses in another place, or you're counting on the wrong person (to move with and/or help you). There could be something that needs to be paid first, causing some distractions and delays.

It doesn't sound like you'll be very excited about this move... The context of this passage is a train ride, so it could be about moving anxiety (since it can be very stressful – speaking from experience). I'm going to include a third passage to see if you'd feel better once you get to the actual house, or for some kind of advice on how to avoid this or deal with it, if unavoidable.

Okay I'm so happy and I need to share this here:

Today I made my first tarot reading for a friend and it went really good??? I mean, I asked before if I was able to do reading and the answer was yes - I used my pendulum - and I also asked for Nyx's help before the reading - thinking about this now and almost freaked out because I normally asked for Selene's help, but then remembered that now our work is focused on more practical-witch-stuff - either away the point is: it all went well, I didn't received her answer yet and I'll tell here how it was; But I'm just really happy, I was encouraged to share my gifts and knowledge and since I'm a very insecure person I ignored this for a very long time, but I'm trying my best now and the thing is: a lot of her reading kind helped me? Like, there was certainly things that even tho wasn't for me I was needing to hear.

And stop to think now, I'm pretty sure I have read others tarot readers saying how much they learn with their clients when doing readings.

not to be controversial bc I know this is like…not in line with shifting opinions on fanfic comment culture but if there’s a glaring typo in my work I will NOT be offended by pointing it out. if ao3 fucks up the formatting…I will also not be offended by having this pointed out…

‘looking forward to the next update’ and ‘I hope you update soon!’ are different vibes than a demand, and should be read in good faith because a reader is finding their way to tell you how much they love it. I will not be mad at this.

‘I don’t usually like this ship but this fic made me feel something’ is also incredibly high praise. I’m not going to get mad at this.

even ‘I love this fic but I’m curious about why you made [x] choice’ is just another way a reader is engaging in and putting thought into your work.

I just feel like a lot of authors take any comment that’s not perfectly articulated glowing praise in the exact manner they’re hoping to receive it in bad faith.

fic engagement has been dropping across the board over the last several years, and yes it’s frustrating but it isn’t as though I can’t see how it happens. comment anxiety can be a real thing. the last thing anyone wants to do is offend an author they love, and that means sometimes people default to silence.

idk where I’m going with this I guess aside from saying unless a comment is outright attacking me I’m never going to get mad at it, and I think a lot of authors should feel the same way. ESPECIALLY TYPOS PLZ GOD POINT OUT MY TYPOS.
