EGLE at youth fishing events this summer focusing on assessing fish contaminants
Source: EGLE newsroom
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) was awarded a $600,000 grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to assess contaminants in fish in several areas of Michigan -- with a particular focus on water bodies where youth fishing events have historically or are currently taking place.
Tumblr media
Brandon Armstrong, EGLE aquatic biology specialist, filets a rainbow trout for a successful angler at the Wayne County Parks youth fishing derby at Waterford Bend Recreation Area in Northville.
The primary goal of EGLE’s Fish Contaminant Monitoring Program is to collect data that are used to inform the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ Eat Safe Fish guide. This grant helps EGLE meet this goal by providing funds to assess contaminants in fish from water bodies nearby communities that may be disproportionately impacted by environmental hazards, often referred to as Environmental Justice areas. EGLE will be attending youth fishing events near these areas to collect samples for contaminant monitoring.
Upcoming events include:
The Public Safety Youth Derby at Muskegon Lake in Muskegon, from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 15.
The Buell Lake Fish Camp at Buell Lake Park in Clio from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 16.
The Brighton Optimist Club Derby at Brighton Mill Pond in Brighton from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 17.
The Global Water Festival at Canal Park in Grand Rapids from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 29.
The Thread Lake Fish Camp at Thread Lake’s McKinley Park in Flint from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 11.
Events that already have taken place as part of the grant are:
Wayne County Parks Derby at Waterford Bend Park in Northville.
Saginaw County Parks’ Catch Me If You Can family fishing festival at Haithco Lake in Saginaw Charter Township.
The Hesse-Earl Youth Fishing Program at Hawk Island Park in Ingham County.
Fish will also be collected under this grant from additional water bodies located near Environmental Justice areas including  Reflection Pond in Riverview, Spring Valley Pond in Kalamazoo, Richmond Park Pond in Grand Rapids, Battjes Park Pond in Wyoming, Galloway Lake, Osmun Lake and the Clinton River in Pontiac, Muskegon Lake and Little Black Creek in Muskegon, WmP Thompson Pond in Port Huron, Carpenter Lake in Southfield, the St. Joseph River and the Paw Paw River in Benton Harbor, and the St. Marys River in Sault Ste Marie.

Connie Wilson
Tumblr media
My name is Connie Wilson. I am 45 and live in Michigan with 2 roommates, an 11-year-old Shih Tzu, Chloe, an 18-month-old Yorkie puppy, Cora, and a 7-year-old Tortoise Shell cat, Karma. The animals will be in children’s books as soon as I can find an illustrator.
Despite the cold winters, Michigan is a beautiful state to live in during the Fall. I live in Flint, the home of the infamous water crisis. I am blessed that I live in the Township and am blessed to not be affected by lead water. My city is still dealing with the effects of it, but we are strong and resilient people.
I have taken a 7 year hiatus from writing due to severe depression and near blindness. I had cataract surgery and finally got the depression under control. Along with the depression came a heaping scoop of imposter syndrome. I am conquering that by getting my Bachelor’s in Creative Writing at Colorado Christian University.
For the longest time, I refused to call myself a YA author – but I have resigned myself to the fact that I think in YA/NA terms. I write mostly interracial romance (BM/WW), but have a few books that just have white characters and one that has only black characters. These days, I write what the voices in my head tell me to.
I am happy to be back writing and have several things in the works.
Author Name: Connie Wilson
How long have you been writing? I declared that I was going to be an author at ten, after reading a Beverly Cleary book and finding a grammar error. I have been writing stories since Kindergarten, but got serious about wanting to get published at 19.
Did you ever imagine that you would be published one day? No. I desperately wanted to get published, but didn’t think it would actually happen.
What made you want to become an author? I am going to get flack for this, but the old Sweet Valley High series pushed me to be a writer. My friends and I wanted to write a huge series with several different characters to catch the reader’s attention.
There were 4 of us that started out at 19. We are the self-proclaimed grandmothers of Fan Fiction – we were writing Fan Fiction in notebooks before it had a name; we used wrestlers and musicians.
I have a series called “Northern Lights” that will be back out after a rewrite (the last one, I swear) that was deemed the Urban Sweet Valley High by someone who didn’t know that’s what I was aiming for.
How long have you been published? 9 years.
How does it feel to be published? I’m still pinching myself. As I said in my bio, I have imposter syndrome and because I’m rebuilding, I don’t mention it much. Me being a published author is the first thing my friends tell people when they introduce me. I still have yet to acknowledge being published as the big deal it is.
Are you self-published or did you go through a publishing company? Why? I started off with a company that I will not name, but I was used and my royalties were stolen. The next company did the same, then a friend stepped up and tried to publish me, but she didn’t have the money, so I started publishing my books under my own company, Passion for Life Publishing (P4L).
How many books have you written? I have three out on Amazon. I did the math the other day and I have 16 total – meaning 13 that need to be put out. I’m currently working on two more for school.
What is/are the name of your book(s)? The ones on Amazon are:
My Walk Through Hell: A Grieving Mother’s Tale of Miscarriage
GlowStick
The Wrong Side of the Mississippi
What genre is it/are they in?
My Walk Through Hell is a memoir about my miscarriage 7 years ago
GlowStick is YA
The Wrong Side of the Mississippi is Adult Contemporary Interracial Romance
What do you feel will inspire others to never forget when they read your story(ies)? My books have a lot of me in them. What I mean is GlowStick is based on real-life events. I have a few others coming out that are as well. They have messages and meanings behind them rather than being stories.
What's the hardest part about writing a book? Editing. I am in a copyediting class right now. I was asked what my favorite part of editing was. My answer? None of it. I HATE it. To quote The Grinch, “Hate, hate, hate… LOATHE entirely.”
What's the easiest part about writing a book? Coming up with the ideas. They flow pretty easily and steadily when I’m in the planning stages.
What do you enjoy most about being an author? To have my baby polished and in my hand. That’s when it hits that I did it.
What do you enjoy least about being an author? Hitting publish on Amazon. I get highly anxious about putting my book out to the world to possibly get rejected.
What is your favorite genre to read? Is it different than the one that you write in? I read a lot of YA and am currently getting into self-help/nonfiction. I write in both. I am currently getting into Fantasy.
Where can interested readers purchase their copy of your book(s)? The Wrong Side of the Mississippi, My Walk Through Hell, GlowStick
Do you have any future projects in the works? Is there a tentative release date? There are. Doing a relaunch of Passion for Life Publishing in June of next year and putting out GlowStick, Learning the Hard Way, Road Trip, My Walk Through Hell, and Lessons from a Narcissist all at one time.
Do you have any social media sites that you would like to share with my readers? Twitter, Website/blog, Instagram, Facebook

Round 1: Match 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
From Counter Strike: Global Offensive,
“Disgraced heavyweight boxing champion, Arno The Overgrown was discovered by Guerrilla Warfare (GW) Trappers living out of a cave. Over the years Arno had become an expert survivalist and big-game hunter—able to live off the land for an indefinite amount of time carrying only his flint stick and sharpened hunting knife. Rumors of Arno eventually spread to nearby townships where he came to attention of Guerrilla Warfare (GW). Wanting to recruit Arno's flawless hunting and fighting skills, the GW failed to coax Arno from his habitat, that is, until they threatened to stop visiting him with hot fresh Milk Tarts every month. It isn't the loneliness that kills you, it's the absence of Melk Tarts.”
From the Official Dota 2 website,
"Tusk is always eager to start a fight. Able to instantly corner an enemy with a wall of ice shards, he gathers with his allies and rolls into enemies inside of a massive snowball, bringing him in range to land his signature knockout punch."

Nearly 300 absentee ballots from the 2020 election were found in a Michigan county storage unit, according to a township supervisor.
The ballots were discovered in a storage unit in Genesee County, which encompasses the city of Flint, Mich., and Thetford Township.
The discovery was made by Thetford Township Supervisor Rachel Stanke through a Freedom of Information Act and presented Wednesday to the township board and residents, according to Michigan News Source.
In 2021, Stanke first became aware of the potential existence of the missing ballots. She initially contacted the Michigan attorney general and the secretary of state, then later told the Michigan State Police after receiving tips regarding the missing ballots and supposed "old township documents" that were discovered.
The storage unit was rented by a former township employee who stowed the box of ballots there, according to the FOIA records. Stanke said that the employee was not aware of the contents of the box.
The Michigan police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the ballots after recovering them in August 2022.

Bullskin Creek Site
State Route 133 northwest
Felicity, Ohio
The Bullskin Creek Site is an archaeological site in the southwestern portion of the state of Ohio. Located on open land off State Route 133, in Franklin Township near Felicity in Clermont County, the site appears to have been a base camp for nomads during the Late Archaic period. The site comprises three loci: two significant areas of various debris and a large midden that underlies everything else. From these components, which cover an area of approximately 400 feet by 600 feet, collectors and archaeologists have recovered hundreds of artifacts, including stone tools, weapons, and bone tools. Because the site is located in a farm field, it has frequently been cultivated, and the plow has brought at least five burials to the surface from a cemetery on the edge of the site. Among the types of features found at the site are ovens, trash pits, and postmolds. Bodies at the site were generally adorned with red ochre and buried in a flexed position.
The culture of the Bullskin Creek Site (so named because it sits atop a terrace above Bullskin Creek, near its mouth at the Ohio River) has been archaeologically classified as "Central Ohio Valley Archaic," along with at least three other sites in Hamilton and Clermont counties. Like the other sites, which are known as Dravo Gravel, DuPont Village, and Logan, the Bullskin Creek Site is believed to have been inhabited during the middle portion of the Late Archaic, between 2750 and 1750 B.C. according to radiocarbon dating. Among the types of tools found both at Bullskin Creek and at the others are distinctive flint knives, parts of atlatls, and stone axes and pestles.  These sites are distinguished from other Late Archaic sites in the region by the knives, which are of a type only found in the region surrounding the Great Miami River.
Unique to Bullskin Creek was the presence of what appears to have been religious articles: one artifact cache comprised a wide range of artifacts that suggest that they were the collection of a shaman.  Conversely, no grave goods were found with any of the burials. In the 1970s, excavations by the University of Cincinnati demonstrated that the Bullskin Creek Site was richer than any other site investigated by the university in the previous few years. Because of its archaeological value, this archaeological site from the Late Archaic period was listed with the National Register of Historic Places on March 30, 1978.

Metro Alternative Energy Flint
Metro Alternative Energy is a company that provides alternative energy solutions, specifically in the Flint area. However, I couldn't find further information about their services and offerings without a more specific context.
Flint, Michigan does not have a widespread electric vehicle (EV) charging network. However, there are a few public charging stations available in the city, including some Level 2 charging stations at hotels and parking lots. To find a charging station near you, you can visit websites such as mae-pb.com. It is always recommended to check the availability and compatibility of charging stations before using them.
As the world progresses, so does the way we get around. Cars have been powered by gas for over a century, but now electric vehicles are becoming more popular. Some people think that electric cars are the wave of the future, and cities are starting to invest in infrastructure to support them. Flint is one of these cities- they've installed an electric vehicle network throughout the city to make it easier for residents to charge their cars.
The electric vehicle network in Flint is made up of Level 2 and Level 3 charging stations. Level 2 chargers are slower than Level 3 chargers, but they're still faster than charging at home. The Level 3 chargers are much faster, and they're perfect for people who need to charge their car quickly. There are a total of eight charging stations in Flint- four Level 2 stations and four Level 3 stations.
The locations of the charging stations are:
1) At the south end of town near I-75
2) Near downtown Flint near Saginaw Street
3) Near Bishop International Airport
4) In Grand Blanc Township near I-75
The electric vehicle network in Flint is a great investment for the future. With more and more people switching to electric cars, it's important that cities have the infrastructure to support them. This network of charging stations will make it easy for people to charge their cars, whether they're at home or on the go.
