Fomorian giants appear to be walking collections of almost randomly mismatched body parts (Looks like a Jeff Easley, AD&D module S4: The Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth, by Gary Gygax, TSR, 1982)

One of the most enjoyable commissions I’ve ever done so far - Sreng and Bres as the Barbie and Ken meme. I think they’re a perfect tag yourself meme now!

Justice & FE3H
Tumblr media
Justice as an archetype is a reminder that there is a consequence to every action. What is fair is enforced by severe action (the sword). While the figure appears to be restful, the shoe peeking out from beneath her rich red robe tells us she is connected to the world and ready to act on a moment’s notice.
Justice reminds us that what happens now is the result of one’s own actions. We must take responsibility for and acknowledge the effect we have upon the world. Interestingly, her positioning along with the drape behind her mirrors the High Priestess, with the exception that behind her seems to be the blinding sun, symbolising a connection to fire (ambition) instead of water (subconscious).
Tumblr media
The Crest associated with this card is the Crest of Cichol. The name possibly comes from Cichol Gricenchos. He was the first leader of the Fomorians, a group of monsters from the land and sea. Just like his brother, Macuil, the name Cichol draws from Irish mythology. Cichol Gricenchos was the first to arrive in Ireland with the humans, subsiding on fishing and fowling.
The dragon associated with this crest is the Earth Dragon. It represents the solid objects of the world, things we can touch and manipulate. Things that can be depended upon. Just like his siblings, the Earth Dragon references one of the five elements of Japanese Godai philosophy. It represents both stability and stubbornness.
Tumblr media
Now that I’m looking at the card itself, I can see why it can be related to Dimitri (the woman looks strikingly similar to our blond heartthrob). However, I am relating it to Seteth / Cichol.
Looking at the image parallels between Justice and the High Priestess, we can see that Seteth is very much similar to Rhea. They are co-leaders of a powerful religious group, and they embrace some of the same principles. Upholding peace and stability over sudden change, caring for the inner spiritual needs instead of leading by force or charisma. However, Seteth also reflects Justice in that he appears more approachable while Rhea is very mysterious.
Tumblr media
Seteth himself also embodies the teachings of Justice. He is living with the consequences of his actions during the War of Heroes. He acted irresponsibly, and lost his wife as a result. In the same war, his daughter became gravely injured, and spent nearly a thousand years resting to recuperate. He accepts the repercussions of his actions (or inaction? We’re not quite sure), and goes forward working to correct them, sometimes overcorrecting.
His connection to Cichol Gricenchos is that he likes fishing. Just like Cichol Gricenchos, he and his family lived off of fish. Seteth also mingled with humans, just like his mythological counterpart.
Tumblr media
Finally, his connection with the Earth Dragon. Seteth is solid and stable, a father figure to most of the students at the Officer’s Academy. While he can be quite stubborn and even obtuse with Flayn, he is a dependable place to land on or push off from for most students. His supports with Hilda and Felix especially highlight the ways in which he pushes students outside their comfort zone while also being a solid foundation.
Overall, Seteth is very well integrated with this arcana archetype, his namesake, and his dragon name. What are your thoughts? Any other cool connections I might have missed?

Issue with the portrayal of the Fomorians
I wish primary sources on the Fomorians were more available.
According to the internet and some books...😅... they are said to dwell under the sea, come from under the earth, be giants or monsters, and are compared to the Titans/purposed to be the gods before the Tuatha. They're called sea raiders or pirates.
But in the LGE, First Battle of Moytura, and Cath Maige Tuired they seem like regular people like the Tuatha de Danann.
Where did all these ideas of their nature and appearance come from?
They just seem like a regular tribe living on Islands off the coast of Ireland.
Not to mention, in the LGE, they are portrayed as having the same ancestors as the Tuatha de Danann.

The more prominent of the Fomorians were Balor of the Evil Eye; Elatha, a god of knowledge; Indech, an earth-god; Tethra, god of the underworld; Net, a war-god; and Bres, who sometimes appears as one of the Tuatha De Danann. It would seem as if the Fomorians had been banished to the Underworld by the Celts in much the same manner as the Tuatha De Danann were driven underground to the mounds by popular belief, on the acceptance of the Christian faith. The word fomor means "under sea", but the Fomori are frequently spoken of as subterranean folk as well. Lewis Spence. The Fairy Tradition in Britain.

Fomorians, a race of dark demons that came from the sea. Many descriptions of this race have been circulated throughout history, Christian authors state that they were the human survivors of the great flood, while traditional Irish stories state that they had the heads of beasts and dealt with death and plague. They consistently menaced humanity and the Tuatha dé, enslaving them both during their reign. In the beginning, when the Dagda had accidentally slayed his father Donn, his mother Danu wept a great amount of tears in her grief washing away their children: the Tuatha dé dannan. Her tears became the mighty ocean while Donn’s body became the land. Within the depths of the ocean Danu’s grief and rage coalesced to form the Formorians, the disasters and strife that plague the earth given form. From the earth of the mighty Donn rose a mighty tree whose fruit was the human race.
The origin myth above is my own interpretation of the reconstructed cosmogony of the pagan Irish religion. It’s gathered from the origin of humanity, of which the Irish state to be descended from the death god Donn, I interpreted the fomorians as Danu’s own race descended from her, as the fomorians are repeatedly said to be the children of Domnu a god also associated with the sea along with similar etymologies to Danu. (this is just my interpretation and I encourage those interested to do their own research). The Fomorians themselves weren’t all considered to be evil as some of them married and were apart of the Tuatha dé, such is the case for Lugh who was half Fomorian. The Fomorians were depicted as raiders due to the recent Viking attacks on Ireland. In modern scholarship the Fomorians are compared to the Nordic Vanir as races who once battled the gods.

I just really like the aesthetics of a giant, moving eye in a pendant. A lot of people would not, I understand. Which is why it creeps them out so much you have disadvantage using it in DnD.
Fomorian Eye Pendant
Wondrous Item, rare (requires attunement)
“A massive, bulging eye from a Fomorian is encased in a sphere of glass. The eye is bloodshot and swivels and moves constantly. The sight of it is off-putting and turns the stomach of most who notice, but there’s a terrifying power to it that few can harness.”
While wearing this pendant you have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight and disadvantage on all Charisma skill checks.
You can use an action to magically force a creature you can see within 60 feet of you to make a DC 14 Charisma saving throw. The creature takes 27 (6d8) psychic damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. You can force the creature to make the save at disadvantage, but you become blinded until the end of your next turn. Once you’ve used this feature you cannot use it again until you finish a long rest.
