that's halfway through the first sentence and Siid has very effectively set the tone for an article of race-baiting, blame-shifting, inflammatory, connotation-smuggling, condescendingly ignorant, hyperbolic, partisan hackery.

I'd call for Aziah Siid to be "fired" but there is nothing to fire her from. You can just buy newspapers. You can just write shitposts and have them published with fancy headings.

So I'm left reiterating: journalists lie, journalists spread disinformation, newspapers are full of shit, the profession attracts liars and incentivizes lying partly because it's loudly claimed to be fact-checkers, journalists can get away with contradicting someone and calling it a "fact check". It happens up and down the scale across the industry, from relative rando Aziah Siid, to upscale Keith Olbermann who has multiple awards for excellent journalism and he won't stop lying after repeated corrections.

If students don’t have books at home or in their neighborhood, they rely on what’s available in schools — in the classroom and campus library. But good luck finding banned and challenged books like “The Gift of Ramadan” by Rabiah York Lumbard and Laura K. Horton and “Sulwe” by Lupita Nyong’o and Vashti Harrison if students live in a place impacted by censorship.

"impacted" is such a wonderful weasel word that encourages the reader to imagine something maximally inflammatory with minimal commitment on the part of the journalist. There is no rebuttal that can be made here without Siid dodging that that's not what she meant by "impacted" - so I retort instead that it's content-free incitement and demagoguery. Journalism delenda est.

Similarly with "banned and challenged", where all the weighty connotation is being carried by the "banned" part, but all the truth of the sentence resides in the "challenged" part. I tried to find the specifics of the matter and as best I can tell, in one of the three thousand counties in the United States, The Gift of Ramadan was challenged for school review by partisan hacks and then got stuck in bureaucratic limbo in a poorly designed review process to determine whether it should be in schools in that county. Somewhere has to be the most fuckup county of 3000, and Duval County was it that year.

From the viewpoint of people who thought their book should be read by every student as a default, this cherry-picked one-county school-holdup felt like a "ban" despite the fact that the book remained available in bookstores.

What extraordinary entitlement.

The epicenter of these efforts? Florida and the attempts led by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis to eliminate the teaching of accurate U.S. history and kill off access to diverse books.

Stripped of the bombast: Florida rejected one specific Advanced Placement course on African American Studies. DeSantis claimed this was because the course was a bunch of thrown-together left-wing talking points including queer theory and climate action along with the black blackety blackness.

The College Board released an edited version of the course, and claimed this was nothing to do with Florida because they get feedback from lots of people.

That’s why as part of a larger effort to make books more accessible, and directly combat these anti-history book bans, the national nonprofit Little Free Library and creative marketing agency Venables Bell + Partners have teamed up on the Unbanned Book Club.

Again with the use of "ban" for not using government resources to promote. Journalism delenda est, wordcels delenda est. The books are not banned, as shown by the fact that this project is legal. The vast majority of books in the world are not in any school, let alone every school; curricula change regularly; to call it "banned" that a book was removed from a school is a sort of linguistic robbery that steals the substance of word and leaves us with a confusion of tongues as of Babel.

I remember you saying that the sculk on grian was dormant for now.

Are we going to see grian possibly turn? or is it just a thing he wakes up with hoping it doesn’t get worse daily?

I have been thinking about this for weeks and I finally got the courage to ask.

Okay so, fun fact, one of the plots I actually scrapped had a lot to do with Grian's sculk becoming... not dormant. And I will not say too much else, but it was going to be the thing that caused a schism between the ranchers and Scar and be the exit point for... a good 3 or 4 characters from the story. I scrapped it for being a bit Too Much for the story and the format, though. It was very dark.

That said, yes, Grian and Scar (possibly even more than Grian himself) wake up every day hoping it hasn't started spreading again. With it so close to his brain already it would not take long at all for it to turn him into a warden. For Grian, if it spreads it's pretty much over.

They have a checklist of things Grian is not allowed to do and everyone is to stop him from doing if he tries, such as not taking his daily sunning flight or going into the basement alone. Most are based on Scar's experiences with Cub leading up to his consumption.

It's both easier and harder with so many people at the hospital, cause Grian always has someone around at the hospital, but he goes on a lot more supply flights. It's not in his brain so he has none of the temptations, but if he got them he has no one with him to stop him.

(Side note, it hasn't come up but the bag Grian takes to collect food is a giant insulated delivery bag, and he announces his arrival by shouting "pizza's here" every single time he gets home.)

Revy also cannot be brought around Grian since he has been trained to react to the presence of sculk for safety. Grian doesn't casually visit the ranch on his flights and the ranchers leave Revy behind when going to the hospital because of this.

Basically it's something everybody is trained to watch out for.

I’m bored as hell so here are some Balarevy headcanons.

1. Revy absolutely steals Balalaika’s shampoo and conditioner. She knows she can’t use it if she is going to meet someone or for a job due to how it might reveal their relationship. But she does use it in periods of downtime between jobs so that she can just laze around and at least have Balalaika’s scent with her.

Balalaika has noticed it but just replaces the bottles. In her mind it’s beneficial if Revy at least tries to keep better care of her hair so it’s fine for the time being.

2. If Revy is alone in Balalaika’s apartment waiting for her she’ll take the time to boil black tea for when Balalaika returns.

Balalaika has acknowledged it with deep thanks and makes an effort to get paperwork done early so that they can drink tea together.

But she also noticed that Revy doesn’t like black tea. Which made her on impulse buy an assortment of tea flavors so that Revy can choose the one she likes.

Now they drink vanilla tea together. It’s personally too sweet for Balalaika but she doesn’t mind drinking it for Revy’s sake. And the blissful look on Revy’s face is a bonus point.

3. When Balalaika starts to overwork herself with paperwork Revy and Boris team up to get her to rest.

Boris deals with more of the technical issues of the reasons behind the paperwork: unapproved dealers on their territory or attempted attacks, etc.

Revy plays the role of doting housewife. Which is still strange for her to commit to. She’s never taken care of someone before so it’s not quality A work. At first she tries to help Boris in the field or find informants who can reveal anything useful.

If that doesn’t work she physically stays close to Balalaika. It’s a lost cause to pull her away from her task since it stresses her out if she’s not working on it. But she sits in Balalaika’s lap in the apartment if she’s at her desk. Most of the time Revy falls asleep but when that happens it does make Balalaika move her to the bed. Which is where Revy clings to her and sleepily mumbles for her to stay. It’s worked 99% of the time.

If she can’t get onto Balalaika’s lap she sits on the bed and tries to read Russian fairytales. It destroys all sense of pride she has but despite her butchering of the words it keeps Balalaika’s attention halfway on her. If she’s lucky Balalaika will actually go over and help her, which makes her a stuttering mess.

4. When Revy overworks herself it’s either physically or emotionally. If it’s physically then Balalaika tends to her basic needs. She’ll drag her to their bed and cuddle her, speaking in soft Russian; which pretty much puts Revy to sleep.

Foodwise Balalaika makes homemade Russian meals. She tried to give her food from one of Hotel Moscow’s cooks but Revy didn’t like it. Then she made the exact same meal herself and Revy devoured it. All she got as an explanation is that it tastes better. Logically it shouldn’t but as long as Revy eats it’s a win in her book.

Although if Revy is defiant she’ll resort to hand feeding. At first Balalaika thought it was childish to do such a thing, since it’s something reserved for lovestruck teenagers. Then she understood the appeal of it when Revy licked her fingers.

Water is pretty much covered by their tea time. Still, Balalaika does make Revy at least drink a water bottle by the time she leaves. Enough praise and Revy would be willing to do most of the stuff needed to take care of herself.

Sleeping is the hardest part. Revy becomes an insomniac when she’s stressed and it’s lead to several arguments. After one night Balalaika told her to leave if she wasn’t going to sleep. Revy ended up staying but Balalaika was tired enough by the conflict that she fell asleep first. On the mere cusp of falling completely asleep Balalaika felt the bed dip and found herself being cuddled. Since then, she knows if she sleeps then Revy will too.

Yet when Revy is emotionally distraught it’s significantly harder to not get pissed. Revy goes completely distant, no calls, no meetings, as if she disappears off the face of the Earth. It nearly caused them to split, Balalaika didn’t have the time to hunt down Revy and it was practically impossible to speak alone or face to face.

Thankfully, the only thing that did get a reaction was by deliberately aggravating Revy. Which tore Balalaika up inside, having to talk down and belittle Revy just to get a response. By that point, Revy tried to attack her; couple of times it ended up messy due to Revy always having her guns. And the first couple of times Balalaika beat her, which she thought would resolve the issue, though it only made it worse. If Balalaika won their physical confrontations Revy’s personality flipped.

Instead of being cold she became hot. In a bad way, as Balalaika listened to half words and strangled curses. None of it made sense but if Balalaika simply listened then Revy burnt herself out.

So if Revy is emotionally overwhelmed, Balalaika initiates a fight. She purposely loses and when Revy is on top of her she tries to be as comforting as she can. So far that’s broken Revy out of whatever spell she’s in. If that doesn’t work then she just says nothing as Revy rambles every thought in her head until she gets tired.

Ok, this is already pretty long so I think a number of 4 headcanons for each post will have to do.

ok thought dump about clan dynamics and related things bc i need to get this down.

revenelan leads the clan mostly in regards to where the clan plans to move to next, how to keep everyone safe, spiritual/religious matters and teaching the clan's children about their heritage (though there are others who teach the little ones as well, everything from history to culture to different kills.) she also checks in with everyone to make sure things are going smoothly - enough food stored, the health of their animals companions, hunters have what they need, craftsmen supplies are stocked, etc. also as a little side-responsibility, she plays a hand in matchmaking, which sorely intimidates her (she hasn't had the opportunity to do much of this, but she fully intends defer to their clan-mother, who i will talk about at some point.)

the clan does have a treasurer who manages clan finances and essential assets (food, clothes, blankets, etc.), the halla-keepers largely take care of the halla and any other pets, while also doubling as working/recording any maintenance for the aravels. there is a head hunter who keeps their warriors trained, scouts the roads ahead, and works with the treasurer to keep food well stocked. cooking is a clan-wide responsibility but typically falls on a small group of clanspeople, though the clan keeps a shift rotation going to make sure they get a break (revie is exempt from cooking often as keeper but also bc everyone knows she can't cook well and they don't wanna waste any food lmao.) the clan-mother is the oldest member of the clan and also applies vallaslin to clan members, she's great. and ofc, they have a head healer - the healers in clan aravun are non-magical, so they rely on the (alleged) ancient healing practices which they have recorded in a book passed on from previous generations (more on this at some point lol.)

one thing that is special about clan aravun is that they have surgeons. this i need to elaborate on through clan aravun's history (current idea is that their effective healing practices aren't actually rooted in dalish history, but were passed on by an ancestor who was a former tevinter slave to a magister who operated on other slaves in his research on the human body and medical magic. the point where he escapes and joins a dalish clan is blank right now, but what he learned as the magister's assistant was eventually passed on and distorted over time into being regarded as ancient dalish practices - which is recorded in the aforementioned book which was written at some point down the line to preserve the original elf's teachings, though they aren't perfectly accurate anymore. i swear it'll all make sense once i Actually explain it in a dedicated post lol)

the clan doesn't necessarily need revie to lead them to function, moreso just to be a deciding point for their future and to keep religious/spiritual practices going & their culture alive. a lot of decisions are made as a collective, but revenelan would be the person to put her foot down if she thinks the clan needs to head a certain direction. the good reputation she's made for herself has earned her clan's respect however, so it's not as if they don't recognize her leadership. that isn't to say that many may not agree with her decisions however. the clan is, effectively, a big family, and there is sure to be dysfunction in many forms at different points.

After Keiwa's elimination from the DGP, as a result of the game's cost of removing desire from a person, several aspects of his personality were temporarily changed, such as his favorite food being sushi instead of tanuki soba, and buying lottery tickets for himself instead of donating his money for charitable causes as Sara expected, due to giving up in his efforts to find a job. This is due to Keiwa's cynicism worsening, making him much more unmotivated than usual and instead wallowing in his bad luck. Keiwa later manages to regain his motivation after being inspired by Ittetsu and Yoshiki's risky actions to protect others, and this change fully fades after Keiwa regains his driver and memories. However, this is causing Keiwa received his own inner demon due the elimination's side effects. He was afraid it at first, but finally accepting it as his other self thanks to Igarashi Family who taught him about his demon.

Relationships:

Kagero/Kamen Rider Evil: At some point he met with Kagero, the latter peering into Keiwa's mind, finding his inner demon.

Ikki Igarashi/Kamen Rider Revi: Upon learning Keiwa has his inner demon due to the DGP's elimination, Ikki decided to help him to overcome it and accept it as part of Keiwa's self. At the end of movie, Ikki entrusted Keiwa and the others to help Ace in becoming a better person.

I suppose that's believable, especially the bit about Ikki, because it is something we would would expect out of him, especially once he regains his memory of Vice.

Regarding the Kagerou bit, I have seen a leaked video of the movie which confirms this, although the wiki (if this is the entirety of the entry, I haven't looked it up recently) actually leaves out the nature of the interaction itself.
