Admittedly I've not been able to actually watch for For All Mankind due to it being on Apple (I was able to catch Schmigadoon while visiting family in the US though), but I do like who it actually uses its alternate history setting to actually establish that a different form of pop culture exists within its time frame, which shows the greater cultural and societal impact of the events of the story.
Unlike, say, Yesterday (a man is sent to a world where the Beatles never existed, and somehow contemporary British pop music is EXACTLY the same) or the West Wing (based in a world where George W Bush never became president, but despite the equivalent of 9/11 being an attack by American white supremacists for some reason the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan still happened because the creators were too cowardly to stray too far from the IRL world of the early 2000s).
