Today, I was driving home in a ❄️ ⛈️ and thinking about Next Goal Wins, Taika Waititi’s upcoming sports ⚽️ comedy film.
it is scheduled to be released on September 22, 2023.
Despite him being 🇨🇦, I have so many mixed emotions about Will Arnett replacing Armie in the film and being handed a bigger role to boot. Frankly, I’ve always thought Will is a better voice and voiceover actor than any of his in-person roles.
I know the reshoots are done and the film will likely come out with Will in what was Armie’s role. But gosh darn it all, do ever think that we should flood Fox Searchlight Pictures and it’s producers with messages to reinstate Armie’s cameo performance in the film.
Michael Fassbender, Elisabeth Moss and a host of NZ and Pacific Islanders are the REAL stars of the film. The presence and expanded role of Will is frankly just a distraction from the primary plot and that of main characters.
Boycotting the film is not the answer.
Of course, there are lots of reasons why an actor’s performance ends up on the cutting room floor. But imho, bullshit allegations of abuse and the pathetic maneuverings of a 🦎 ain’t legit reasons to cut out Armie Hammer’s performance from this film.
Any Charmies or Armie fans have any thoughts on this?
Too late? Never too late?

Anthony Hopkins on Playing the 'Psycho' Director in 'Hitchcock'
WRITER’S NOTE: This article was originally written back in 2012. Sir Anthony Hopkins has played real-life people in movies such as President Richard Nixon in “Nixon” and John Quincy Adams in “Amistad,” but he was initially hesitant about playing the brilliant filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock in “Hitchcock.” The master of suspense has been imitated so many times over the years to where it seems…

It is astonishing to me that anyone in Hollywood ever thought that The Creator was going to be anything other than the atomic box office bomb it’s turned out to be. It shouldn’t be astonishing, this bonkers way of looking at the world is pretty par for the course as far as Hollywood people are concerned, but this one still managed to surprise me.
It’s a well known fact that high concept sci-fi films do not do well with crowds. Especially when it’s a sci-fi film that talks down to its audience. It’s the same reason District 9 and Chappy fell flat on their faces. The only reason the Avatar movies get away with it is because that’s James Cameron, and people know that he’s gonna find some way to blow them away regardless of how pretentious and on-the-nose the movie might be about it’s moralizing. People’s lives suck right now, and the last thing they want is to blow $50 taking their family to the movies just to get preached at about how they shouldn’t be racist to fucking robots of all things.
Speaking of which: AI, that thing the movie’s about. AI is not exactly what I’d call popular with the public right now. And the fact that the movie is engaging with the subject the same way it would have if this were like, the 1990’s or something, doesn’t help. At this point, most people have worked out that AI isn’t ever going to be like robots you can’t tell apart from real people. It’s just another tech/finance grift like NFTs or cryptocurrency. If there even is a future for it, and it doesn’t go bust in like 3 years, it’s not going to be in the shape of some innocent little girl with the power to change the world. It’s gonna be increasingly fake, corporate bots that can only speak in ad talk.
And you know, this doesn’t really have much to do with the films failure to thrive, but I was listening to an interview with Gareth Edwards (the auteur behind this film) and he really is engaging with the themes he chose for this movie in the shallowest of ways. Apparently, the AI is meant to be a stand in for, and I quote, “anyone who’s different.” Which, you know, is not only extremely fucking surface level engagement with your own material and not really committing to the whole AI bit, it’s also pretty shitty to paint, and I quote, “anyone who’s different” as fucking robots. Like, maybe that coulda used another go in the oven before you started throwing hundreds of millions of dollars at it, Garry. Just some food for thought.
Anyway, point is, this movie was a bomb from a mile away. Anyone shoulda been able to see it coming, and the fact that Searchlight (read: Disney) had the confidence to release this in fucking October instead of dumping it in January or February like they clearly should have is both shocking and hilarious.

When Do Recent 20th Century Studios and Searchlight Pictures Theatrical Films Come To Hulu?
🟩 When do 20th Century Studios and Searchlight Pictures films come to Hulu? How long will they stream? #Hulu $DIS
Disney+ subscribers, prepare to be angry. Hulu subscribers enjoy a constant onslaught of new 20th Century Studios and Searchlight films. For 40 years from 1983 until 2022, Fox (now 20th Century Studios) films went to HBO for their Pay One window (the ~2 years after cinema and home media releases). With Avatar: The Way of Water in 2022, that deal finally ended. That means films like Chevalier and…

‘SNL 1975’ Finds Its Garrett Morris, Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase And John Belushi
By Justin Kroll, Anthony D'Alessandro January 30, 2024 10:00am
Tumblr media
Lamorne Morris playing Garrett Morris, Dylan O’Brien playing Dan Aykroyd, Cory Michael Smith playing Chevy Chase and Matt Wood playing John Belushi
EXCLUSIVE: Lamorne Morris, Dylan O’Brien, Cory Michael Smith and Matt Wood have joined the cast of Sony Pictures’ SNL 1975 that will be directed by Jason Reitman and based on the real-life behind the scenes accounts of the opening night of Saturday Night Live. Morris will play Garrett Morris, O’Brien will play Dan Aykroyd, Smith will play Chevy Chase, and Wood will play Belushi. The original screenplay is written by Reitman and Gil Kenan.
On October 11, 1975, a ferocious troupe of young comedians and writers changed television forever. SNL 1975 is the true story of what happened behind the scenes that night in the moments leading up to the first broadcast of NBC’s SNL. It depicts the chaos and magic of a revolution that almost wasn’t, counting down the minutes in real time to the infamous words, “Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night!”
The screenplay is based on an extensive series of interviews conducted by Reitman and Kenan with all the living cast members, writers and crew. Reitman, Kenan, Jason Blumenfeld, Erica Mills and Peter Rice are producing.
Morris can currently be seen in FX’s fifth season of Noah Hawley’s hit drama series Fargo as North Dakota Deputy Witt Farr. He joined the cast of Netflix’s Unstable for season two opposite Rob Lowe. Prior to this, he starred as the titular lead in the hybrid live-action/animated Hulu series Woke, inspired by the life and art of cartoonist Keith Knight.
O’Brien was most recently starring in Ponyboi, which premiered as one of ten films in the U.S. Dramatic Competition at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. Up next, he will be seen in the feature films Caddo Lake, from the writing-directing team of Logan George and Celine Held and producer M. Night Shyamalan, and Anniversary, a thriller co-starring Diane Lane, Kyle Chandler, Zoey Deutch and Phoebe Dynevor. His other credits include Searchlight feature Not Okay from writer-director Quinn Shephard, the critically-acclaimed crime drama The Outfit, opposite Mark Rylance, Zoey Deutch, and Johnny Flynn; Paramount’s Love and Monsters and the popular Maze Runner franchise
Best known for his role on as the Riddler on the popular Fox series Gotham, Smith can currently be seen as Julianne Moore’s son in Todd Haynes’ May December. He most recently starred as Varian Fry in Anna Winger’s limited series Transatlantic opposite Gillian Jacobs and Corey Stoll for Netflix. Smith has also worked with Todd Haynes in both Carol (as private investigator Tommy Tucker) and Wonderstruck.
Wood has appeared in the original Broadway cast of Spongebob Squarepants and as husky kid icon Augustus Gloop in the Broadway First National Tour of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Television credits include Law and Order: SVU, Instinct and Difficult People.
Morris is represented by CAA, Entertainment 360, The Lede Company, and Myman Greenspan Fox Rosenberg Mobasser Younger & Light. O’Brien is repped by William Morris Endeavor Entertainment, Principal Entertainment LA, and Lichter, Grossman, Nichols, Feldman, Rogal, Shikora & Clark. Smith is repped by Circle of Confusion. Wood is repped by BRS/Gage Talent Agency.

TS Film Thoughts Masterpost
As promised.
Let's start things off -
Breaking News - Headlines about the film
Dec 9 2022 - her film contract makes headlines
Tumblr media
From what I can find, this is the first that anyone knows she is producing a film. There are no details released other than it's a script she wrote and she will be directing the film.
The next we hear is Dec 7, 2023 from the Tennessean --
Tumblr media
It's been crickets, essentially. There are no public details I can find about the film anywhere including cast list, release date, content, ETC.
Interestingly, two days ago -- though uncertain of validity of source -
Tumblr media
I don't have access to puck so cannot confirm what the article says; but this was recent! So; in theory, she finishes her Eras tour and moves directly in to film.
More on how Disney+ ties in our next section...
Who is Searchlight Pictures?
Created April 29, 1994 - formerly known as Fox Searchlight/under 20th/21st Century Fox
Biggest success: Slumdog Millionaire 187 Academy Ward Nominations with 46 wins; 5 Best Picture since 2009 117 Golden Globe Nominations; 51 wins 66 Screen Actors Guild Award Nominations; 55 wins 137 Independent Spirit Awards, 54 Wins
Other Notable Films: 12 Years A Slave; Black Swan; Napoleon Dynamite;
20th century fox, prior to the creation of Searchlight, was prominent in the specialty and independent films market in the 1990s; it carried this interest into Searchlight, at least initially.
In 2012, it was incorporated into Murdoch's 21st Century Fox. Barf.
On Dec 14, 2017 Disney put their first bid out on 21st Century Fox/Fox Searchlight. On March 19, 2019 the companies merged and Disney acquired Fox Searchlight; Fox News notoriously split independently. Disney dropped the name Fox; so now we have just Searchlight Pictures. There is also a Searchlight Pictures TV and shorts production, which for the sake of time I will not get into.
For Funsies, here is a short film (Jun 18 2019, after Disney acquired) produced by them called....LAVENDER. About a gay man who has a relationship with a married gay couple. Can't make it up.
Anyway, since merging with Disney especially, the company seems to be LGBTQ friendly.
And yes, Joe Alwyn has worked with Searchlight, with tweets I found dating back to 2018 with Searchlight UK. Make of that what you would like, I have no real objective commentary on the matter.
Taylor as a Director
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She also directed the Long Pond Studio Sessions and Miss Americana.
Most of her directorial work has been since the Lover debut. Most of which is very queer coded/sapphic.. and again, make of that what you will.
Appearances/Pap Walks, ETC
Since her split from JA, we have seen her with multiple friends in the film industry. Among these: Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Selena Gomez, Keleigh Teller, Miles Teller, Sophie Turner, Emma Stone...
And dare I say.... Travis Kelce, who seems to want to break his way into the entertainment industry?
Tumblr media
(aside from this headline; his failed dating show, his podcast, his multiple PR deals like with ZenWater... etc. I rest my case).
We also know there has been some B roll footage taken at the Chiefs Games.
Additionally, the media coverage of this relationship has been an absolute f*cking circus; with constant headlines of the two and their "engagement" / relationship dynamics. On Taylor's end, we have had constant references to Bejeweled (where she Ghosts); including Keleigh Teller giving her the opal ring.
The Speculation
Yall, this is my opinion - you can agree, disagree, etc; but I have no insider information. Just thoughts.
She makes her film directorial debut with Searchlight - recently acquired by Disney, who is pro-LGBTQ; and is clearly in deep with business deals with them, as seen on Taylor Nation and her Eras Tour Film.
We have rumors of her beginning her film production at the end of the ERAS tour, along with knowledge of her currently with B roll footage from chiefs games. We have multiple highly papp'ed appearances with her + TK; but also with multiple film stars, including Blake Lively (still not over that photo), Sophie Turner (I do think there's altruism here tbh on TS's end), and Keleigh. If you believe Keleigh is her stand in invisible bride.... Holy shit. Between the opal ring shutdown of the media circus as well as her and TS literally taking a page out of TSHOEH and dressing in character...
My ultimate suspicion is that she's using actual experiences of her current life-highly papp'ed - to tell her story. And that Keleigh is her stand in muse in this film.
I also think the @spade-riddles we've been getting about a final act ending, etc, pertain to her film. I don't have evidence aside from speculation.
I rest my case. Enjoy this post and make of it what you will.

Super Troopers (2001)
This is a Movie Health Community evaluation. It is intended to inform people of potential health hazards in movies and does not reflect the quality of the film itself. The information presented here has not been reviewed by any medical professionals.
Super Troopers has several brief uses of strobe lights on top of emergency vehicles, all taking place in bright daylight. Two brief scenes have flashes from cameras.
There are some high-speed chase scenes, and brief use of shaking and other handheld camera work.
Flashing Lights: 5/10. Motion Sickness: 4/10.
TRIGGER WARNING: Law enforcement officers constantly abuse their authority and position in this film. During a split-screen montage, a man vomits on-screen twice, with a post-credit scene showing that it was real.
