Summary:

SwapFieldtale is a role-swapping A'U that is based on UnderTale and UnderSwap, thus retaining traits of the characters' original personality.

It can also be simply called Swapfield, this is my first official post about Swapfieldtale, so its anniversary would be every October 1st.

Characters:

Papyrus: He occupies the role of Frisk, he is the protagonist and he is 12 years old. He is a bit shy and quiet, but he can be energetic and is cheerful. His platonic crush is Chara (Depending on how you want to see it, it can be an unrequited childhood love or they can become a couple).

He is the brother of Sans, but neither of them knows it (Still…). After meeting him, Sans ends up looking at him as his younger brother and Papyrus admires him a lot.

Frisk: She occupies the role of Undyne. She wants to be the leader of the royal guard, although she is considered the princess of the Underground and is not allowed to be, she is determined to achieve it.

She has the same determined personality as her UnderTale counterpart, she is strong and determined, but she also has a sweet side that she is a bit shy to show. She was initially skeptical of Sans, but fell in love with him after getting to know him better and becoming close. Chara is her younger sister and they were taken in by the Dreemurr.

Undyne: She occupies the role of Asriel and Flowey. She is a kind girl, somewhat shy and cheerful. Her best friend is Alphys and she is the adopted daughter of Grillby and Muffet. Alphyne is not canon in this A'U, but they can be paired.

Asriel: He occupies the role of Monster Kid. He is a 16-year-old young goat, cheerful and mature. He studies at the university, so he is usually a bit busy. His best friend is Chara, they have known each other since they were little and in his free time he spends time with her.

Monster Kid: He occupies the role of Alphys. He's the royal scientist, he's a bit of an introvert, but he gets excited easily and his passion is science. He is Frisk's childhood friend and his best friend is Sans, he was very excited to learn that 2 of his close friends became a couple.

Alphys: Plays the role of Chara. He doesn't have a set gender, so you can watch it in whatever gender you want (I clarified this because I refer to it as a guy). He is a genius boy, cold and reserved. He hardly ever smiles, but when he met Undyne he started to feel more… Happy. He has a hard time showing affection, but he actually loves his family (Grillby, Muffet and Undyne) very much.

Chara: She occupies the role of Sans. She is 15 years old, calm and cheerful. She lives in Snowdin and fell into the Underground when she was very little, her favorite food is chocolate.

Her best friend is Asriel and he was the first one she met when she arrived in the Underground. She sees Asgore, Toriel, and Frisk as her family; Napstablook and Monster Kid are her childhood friends.

Sans: He occupies the role of Mettaton. He wants to help and encourage the people of the Underground not to lose hope, becoming a well-liked and popular celebrity in the process.

He is outgoing and cheerful, he likes to cook pasta in general (he even has a cooking show), but his favorite food is tacos. He constantly likes to flirt with Frisk, he fell in love with her from the first moment he saw her and fell more in love with her as he got to know her.

Mettaton: She occupies the role of Shyren and is Napstablook's cousin. She is a very shy pink ghost, wearing a echo flower crown and bangs that hide her right eye. She has a very sweet voice, she dreams of being a singer, but she is afraid to sing in public. She likes Papyrus, but he doesn't realize it.

Napstablook: He occupies the role of Papyrus. He is a very energetic ghost child and greatly admires the Royal Guard, so when he meets Papyrus he wishes to capture him to be recognized by them. His passion is music and he sees Chara as his sister, he spends a lot of time with her.

Asgore occupies the role of Muffet and vice versa. Asgore has a flower shop and works there, he is someone calm and kind.

Muffet is the queen of the Underground and is somewhat strict. She is still Grillby's wife, but their relationship has become somewhat complicated.

Toriel occupies the role of Grillby and vice versa. Toriel has a coffee shop and is very busy working there, she is a hard working and loving mother.

Grillby is the guardian of the Ruins, he does not have a paternal role with Papyrus, but he does appreciate him. He is someone who is quiet and rarely speaks.

Fun facts:

Frans and Asgoriel are canon ships in this A'U.

Alphyne, Chasriel, Papara and Papyton are not canon ships, but can be paired depending on one's taste.

Frisk was welcomed among the monsters, she was grateful to them and when she saw the Royal Guard she decided that when she grew up she wanted to be a warrior who helps free the monsters. But Muffet wants her to fulfill her role as princess and considers that it would be very dangerous for her to join the Guard, so she often trains in secret.

Frisk likes to wear dresses, but is embarrassed to do so and avoids doing so. She only dresses like this on important royal occasions.

Just as Alphys and Undyne go on a date in the game, Sans and Frisk go on one as well.

I made the Frisk and Chara sprites bigger than the original ones to make it more obvious that they are young, not children, and to avoid hate comments from Frans haters.

Asgore wore a green jacket, when he met Chara she was a little girl with worn clothes that didn't protect her from Snowdin's cold. So he put his jacket on her and carried her in his arms. Chara kept the jacket and wanted to keep it, but it was too big for her. So Toriel made some adjustments to it so it would fit. As Chara grew older, the jacket was kept and adjustments were made each time to make it fit. She wears that jacket to this day, it is her favorite piece of clothing and she preserved it as well as possible.

Monster Kid and Sans have robotic arms. The first because he was born without arms and the second, it would be a spoiler if I told you.

Alphys was a gifted boy genius who aided Gaster in his experiments as his assistant (Him past with Gaster is a mystery, along with Papyrus and Sans' past).

Lastly, here's a somewhat old drawing of Asriel (it was actually the first drawing I ever did of him, hehe). I was too lazy to digitalize it, so I just colored it on top.

actually what i think would be cool is an ace attorney game where each case is its own individual mini-spinoff. first case is kristoph gavin: ace attorney a few years pre-aa4 with apollo as kristoph’s college intern and clay as the defendant. we get to learn more about clay and apollo’s friendship alongside apollo+kristoph and krisnix dynamic. we’re forced to forge evidence because there isnt anything concrete proving clay’s innocence, giving us an inside glimpse into a corrupt attorney’s life. second case is simon blackquill investigations pre-UR1 where on someone else dies at the space center and metis is accused. we see more of athena/simon/aura/metis family dynamic as well as athena and juniper’s friendship as children. manfred von karma investigations (kid miles and vk family dynamic) or lana skye investigations (pre-SL9 ema mia gant jake angel neil) or mia fey ace attorney (maya lana pearl morgan diego maybe even dahlia and iris) or robin newman ace attorney/hugh o’conner investigations (self-indulgent but would be so cute)….the possibilities are endless……just fun little ways to expand on pre-existing character dynamics that might not have been discussed too much without necessarily making an entire game revolving around those characters
