YIPPPEEEEE THE 2ND (and 3rd) OC POST OF THE DAY IS FINALLY HERE!! >:3

The 2nd new OC is named Razale Fremont, formerly a demon hunter who works at an organization where any form of mercy given to demons was consider a crime, now working at the "Hell's Salvation" organization. Razale will take any opportunity to slaughter any demons for his mission as long as he's able to afford lunch for the day. While Razale is often very strict with his job, his feeling towards demons is rather apathetic as Razale says, it's just "His Instinct".

And the third OC is named Addison (Addy for short) Hawthorn. Formerly working for a church organization who provides blessing to the needed ones in a city where Demon invasion happens every week. While the members of the church often use Holy weapons for combat, Addy is the exception with her buzzsaw being made by a special material from Hell instead. Despite her claim of being a special member of the church and wearing an odd mask to confuse any demons sight (Demon have a much different sight from humans), she's usually stubborn, emotional, very loyal but nice to anyone she have trust on. However her more reckless altitude got her kicked out of the church and put her into the "Hell's Salvation" organization

Mark Kermore just resigned from his post as The Observor's film critic after 10 years, and in his last article he listed his top films from 2013 until now. His most favourite? Bait, which he called “the defining British film of the decade”, by new Cornish filmmaker Mark Jenkin. It is indeed a visually-different, experimental-like masterpiece, shot in splotchy black & white, like a grainy, monochrome Tarkovsky. 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. 8/10. I'll watch his recent film 'Enys Men' next (even though I don't usually care for 'British Folk Horror').

It opened with the most unpleasant voiceover, which turned out to be Margaret Thatcher, the other despicable puppet master from that time, here playing the fascist's mother. He went for Magical Realism, but he was no Gabriel García Márquez. 4/10.

The quiet girl, my 3rd or 4th re-watch of this tender, magnificent gem, one of my most cherished films from 2022. An illustration of Care vs. Neglect. My mom told me about this beautiful story she was reading, and which was the basis for this film, and I was delighted to introduce her to this sublime masterpiece, which we watched together. 10/10.

Objector, a very Israeli 2019 documentary about a young woman who refuses to serve in the army, becomes a conscientious objector, and even serves 110 days in a military prison. As an ex-Israeli and as a guy unwilling to join the army in 1970, this affair was specifically very relevant to me. My hatred for the Israeli occupation is immense, and the story told here was desperately tragic and heartbreaking. Unfortunately, as a movie, it wasn’t very good, probably because the director was inexperienced. That most of the characters spoke English among themselves was another big drawback.

I never heard about comic genius ventriloquist Nina Conti (Tom Conti's daughter) until finding her on r/nextfuckinglevel. Watching a bunch of her YouTube clips, this pretty, sexy, hilarious comic is superbly creative. In 2012, she wrote and directed a personal documentary, Her master’s Voice. In it she travels to an odd international ventriloquist convention in Kentucky (Photo Above). But it's mostly a tribute to a man, Ken Campbell, who just died. He's the one who had introduced her to the puppets years ago but he also was her lover, when she was in her twenties, and he was in his sixties. Brilliant. 9/10.

Another re-watch of occasional random 'Mad Men' episode, Signal 30 from S5 E5. That's the one with the dripping faucet in Pete's kitchen, and the visit to the whorehouse, which ends in a fiasco. Co-written by Frank Pierce (who also directed 'Conspiracy'). Another example of the superb ensemble drama, featuring dozens of complex characters. "A thing like that"... 9/10.

Jeff who lives at home, my second film directed by the Duplass Brothers, the "other" writer-director brother-duo. And this too is an "indie" comedy-drama about two brothers at odds with each other. What a different and how much better film it would have been, if indeed The Coens were the ones doing it. 3/10.

Oh, this is a surprisingly difficult one. I've always been small and kind of unassuming (less so since I've been dyeing my hair bright colours for the past ~ 4 years, but it's still my instinct) and as a kid I had terrible social anxiety with strangers, so I've always done my measured best to not encounter strangers on the street. In any capacity.

I live in a city now, though, so I regularly see all types of people. I'd like to emphasize that, despite the stereotypical shit one would say about scary strangers in downtown (and if you're not familiar with the kind of propaganda right-wing people spread about downtown Seattle, it's....it's a lot), most of my encounters with strangers here are perfectly pleasant. We ask for and exchange navigational advice. A man asked to use my phone, and I helped him call his wife (he said "god bless you" afterward). A friendly fellow on Fremont struck up a conversation during my lunch break and let me pet his dog. He told me to not worry about taking long breaks, that it's more important to live than to work anyway.

So if most of my encounters are good, the weridest would be the statistically anomalous times I have been made uncomfortable. That would be one time I was accosted for money on 3rd (I know, I know, it had to be 3rd, right?) and one time I was followed by some guy from one bus to another.

Spice: Have you ever encountered a house that you believed to be haunted?

Oh, I'm so glad I was asked this. I love the literary trope of a haunted house. Fear as an unwelcome visiter who has never moved out. The inverse of what it means to be a home (familiar and safe) in a home itself.

Unsurprisingly, House of Leaves is one of my favourite books. :) And for other media that touches on this trope (especially the video game "Control" which I am too much of a coward to play), I recommend this excellent video essay by Jacob Geller: Control, Anatomy and the Legacy of the Haunted House.

Now to actually answer your question. Have I encountered a house I believe to be haunted? Of course. What house isn't? My childhood home in Walla Walla, haunted by a version of me I can never be again: the apricot tree in the backyard cut down before it grew tall. The basement apartment I lived in when I first moved to Seattle, haunted by a horrible landlady and flooding through the garage. I think as creatures with emotions we haunt and leave haunted any place we touch.

As for whether I have personally encountered a house wherein I sensed a spirit or post-death entity: not yet, unfortunately. But there is still time!
