#French islamophobia

Sooooo now if you’re North African or Black you cannot wear a long dress at school anymore which extend to public servants jobs.
France really said “Wait we need to remind everyone of our Islamophobia”.
Basically the Abaya has been declared to be a religious garnement and as such it is now not allowed to wear it in schools. Given that they cannot differentiate a abaya from a long dress (because there’s no fucking difference) they will have to pick when it’s a abaya and when it’s just a long dress… and as everyone can already see it they will pick by deciding that Arab, Amazigh, North African and Black girls are automatically wearing a abaya.

France is banning the abaya, which is a loose-fitting dress worn by Muslim women (among other groups of women), in public schools. They claim the dress is an affront to French secularism even though it's not even a religious garment – it's a cultural garment that resembles pretty much any loose-fitting modest dress.
I can't possibly spell out for you how discriminatory and backward this is for a "modern, democratic" nation like France. Muslim women deserve more humane treatment and respect than this – being forced to undress more than they're comfortable with.

there's a post going around that says "“We need to strive to be more accepting of POC” you guys can’t even handle religion." and like. that's genuinely offensive to me lmao
#and like i say: brf slt#the word accepting. POC the acronym you couldn't even write all of it. again more accepting? just weird to me#and like...literally what. in their rb they say christianity and catholicism aren't the only religions when like...that's the same religion#so im gonna be crazy and assume theyre 14 or just kinda dumb.bc how are you not gonna make sure to be accurate in your big anti-racism rant#wait their bio actually says i'm an adult i promise. they're just dumb then#and like obviously there's not just christianity. i dislike every one of the big three equally because there's no meaningful difference#there to me...and i don't know enough about other religions but i would probably hate many others too because like...i don't like the#content but i also dislike just the concept of organized religion and also just think it's dumb since i'm not in it at all#and like. obviously you're allowed to believe in what you want and i think it's nice that people are able to have faith like i think that's#a nice concept. and yes religions are a big part of people's cultures (something the post says) but like...when you're not religious#religions are literally just cults that worked out but you're supposed to respect them because like we live in a society and it's sooo...😭#like i also think believing in the power of rocks is dumb#i know all about criticism of a religion being racism because french people do it all the time with islam because they just hate north#african people/arabs and black people (but i think islamophobia is mostly aimed at north africans). but like. when people talk about#islamophobia being a real problem it's not about people disliking the religion it's about them talking about it 24/7 just because they hate#the people who follow it when like. literally how is christianity better!!!!! when they're like oh it's so regressive but they themselves#are everything they claim islam makes people (idk homophobic misogynistic etc) like it's very transparent. but you're allowed to not like#religions unless you know blasphemy's a thing where you live. and it's actually very easy to be against islamophobia when it's literally#just a manifestation of racism while not being fond of islam or of any religion. because like. common sense. but anyway#i UNDERSTAND where the post is coming from it's like if you think religion is backwards you're gonna think religious people are backwards#and that includes 'poc' or like saying a religion is backwards is something racists do a lot. but like wdym to be anti-racist#you have to not be critical of religion(s) that doesn't make any sense to me. like if religions are against my values. i'm not gonna like#them😭 'religion isn't just what your parents used to be homophobic against you' well there's a lot of people worldwide who are using#religion to do bad things i fear...the post's arguments dont make sense and i dont care about people believing in whatever but also yes im#gonna think it's stupid and wrong if i think the opinions they have because of their religion are wrong when people aren't religious. like#it's not a trump card. i don't even think that's what that person's saying. but like...there's no correlation between 'not being accepting#of POC' and 'not being able to handle religion'?😭 implying there is feels racist to me literally what...and the reverse doesn't work either#and i'm aware trying to stop people from practicing their religion is like bad and a way to get them to assimilate and like racist and all#that.but that's not 'not being able to handle religion' in a tumblr way it's literally just racism again? and idk just weird it annoyed me#and also i know leftists can be anti-religion in a way that's racist and paternalistic again i live in france

In France, rejection of Muslim population is growing
A widespread act of violence by the Islamic population is a cause for concern in France. Official statistics show that an average of 120 knife attacks occur daily in France, many of which end in death, according to JNS.
A recent example, which occurred on 2 December, confirms the violence. A man of Iranian origin stabbed a German tourist walking along the Seine near the Eiffel Tower, a place that was considered safe. A more interesting development followed. In 2016, he was arrested and sentenced to five years in prison. Four years later, he was released and placed on the state’s list of highly dangerous persons. On the afternoon of 2 December 2023, he made a video in which he stated that he wanted to “avenge Muslims” and kill infidels – which is exactly what he did a few hours later.
Despite the rise in motivated violence by Muslims against non-Muslims, most cases remain unknown or simply go silent.
Some are still reported, but it is mostly the violent ones that are highlighted.

Not the former French prime minister preparing his presidential campaign and saying “maybe we have to admit that Islam needs specific rules and laws in France.” He also said that the 1905 law is probably not enough to “address the specificities of Islam” and that soon “specific laws and organization imposing certain obligations on Muslims only” will have to be put in place in the country.
He is basically saying “laïcité” (the freedom of religion and the state minding its own business) should not be applied to Muslims because we shouldn’t have the same freedom as other religious people in France. We should be controlled by the government.
When I saw that we are treated like colonial subjects this is what I’m talking about. They refused to apply “laïcité” (secularism) in Algeria under colonialism because it allowed them to control the indigenous population more.
If you’re North African, Black or Brown in France, even if you are not Muslim it will affect you. The plan is to treat us like colonial subjects. Under colonialism legally the term “muslim” didn’t even designate actual Muslims but “all indigenous people in Algeria”. There was such a thing as being a “Muslim Christian” because Islam was racialized to the point where it was considered to be an ethnicity.
The article in French here
Edit: The guy was invited at la Fete de l’huma 😂 dude’s plan is segregating Muslims but he was invited at the left wing gathering of the year. I’m laughing so I don’t cry.

The spread of hindutva and islamophobia is heartbreaking to see.
I can't even watch the video twice where those ladies were forcefully removing the hijab and niqab of 2 Muslim women, it hurt.

Entry #001
Hierarchy
I'm currently hiding away from all the noise of our weekly family supper. We gather to my grand-parents' place from about 17h to 21h. I burnout by 19h.
As usual, my father and grand-father are talking about religion, making all kinds of Catholic jokes. But, mostly, they're dissing on Muslim people and Orthodox Christian people. I've been hearing their rants since I was a small child. As a result, I regretably thought that Orthodox Christians were the "bad Christians". Actually, up to a few years ago when I realised that "hey, maybe telling and thinking some denominations are worthless and evil is kinda weird", I thought the following hierarchy:
Atheist > Agnostic > Catholic > Protestant > Orthodox Christian = Islam = Judaism
In my family's eyes, being a devout Christian was already seen as stupid, so when it comes to their religious phobias... Yeah, they're very islamophobic, antisemitic and generally xenophobic.
I have confessed for my ignorance that caused so much harm. How can we be so cruel to one another?

so yesterday and today there's important exams for highschoolers (the BAC, we have to get it to do like anything lmao) and there were people from other schools in my high school to pass exams (sometimes that happens for some reason)
and like I was looking for what classroom I was passing my exam in and there's two muslim girls wearing hijabs next to me from another school (like legit just a hijab nothing overly religious or whatever the fuck) and I don't even fucking notice tbh
and then one of the surveillants (unsure how to translate that, basically staff that deals with students but don't actually teach) pulls up and she's like im sorry this is a public establishment you have to take your hijab off and I'm just
like the surveillant really was sorry I know her she was just doing her job but it just reminded me how dumb this shit is. this is not what religious freedom is my dudes. I don't think the girls ended up taking their hijabs off good for them i hope they didn't get in trouble with someone else (there's people who are nice and don't insist in these situations and others who are dicks) but like urh

why do people hate the dutch so badly lol its so weird
Why do you people have this weird obsession of defending the Dutch? Do you guys just stop at the English and the French in your Leftism and just forget about every other shitty European country? They were major players in the colonial game and committed atrocities wherever they went, and they still retain much of their racist and imperialist legacy. Did you forget about the South African apartheid? Who were those white people in power exactly? If a South Asian man of Muslim background is complaining about the state of minorities in Europe as Islamophobia, antisemitism, anti-romani sentiments, racism and hostility towards refugees are normalized, especially with right-wing figures becoming increasingly powerful and prominent in EU politics, then don't question them, and read a book instead. But yeah defend the country that has a holiday dedicated to being racist.

something that makes me want to jump off a bridge is the fact that in my country (France) the media hardly spoke, if at all, of the eight rape charges brought against a presidential candidate ( Eric Zemmour, far-right candidate supported by Trump) nor of his violent homophobia, of his extraordinary racism and Islamophobia which are moreover the basis of his program, of his mysoginia and monstrous sexism of which he has simply made a book , of his strong anti-Semitism, of his extreme transphobia and so on, but keep talking about the appointment of a woman (Élisabeth Borne) to the post of Prime Minister of the country. and when I say they keep talking about it I'm not exaggerating. It caused a lot of debate and controversy, the news channels were constantly talking about it, all day there were debates on the subject with questions like "why a woman?" "feminism goes too far".... on the other hand Zemmour who writes a book to say that women have an archaic brain and that sexual assault should be legal and that feminists and homosexuals are the main danger of French society , who raped at least eight women, who says Petain protected Jews, who says the white man is being victimized by a "Great Replacement" and who wants to build walls around France to prevent "foreign scum" from entering and so on, (know that I am far from saying everything. this guy is the customization of everything that is problematic) absolutely does not make as much noise, nobody talks about it , it does not impact his career, and if someone dares to denounce it, this person is attacked for "attack on freedom of expression". like a woman prime minister makes more noise than a sexist misogynist rapist transphobic homophobic anti-Semitic and racist party leader and presidential candidate.
