The poplar tree is nearly twice as tall as the house, now. I can't believe I planted that! It gives the house shade in the morning, and helps delay it heating up in here on summer days.
Planted this silver maple, too; it came up as a volunteer in one of my flower beds. The blue bar beside it is about my height. It's directly between my kitchen and the sunrise in late summer, and mitigates the brightness somewhat. It's sobering to think how much longer they will live than I will.
