I’m legitimately floored over how quickly this came together; I think the preliminary process of going through both series and compiling and sorting all the footage to be used might actually have taken longer than the actual video construction.

...And, after nearly a full year and a half of languishing in audio limbo, here it is at long last! It feels very good to finally catch up with something that was this so long-overdue.

Huge thanks go out once again to Fruzmig for by far the most ambitious art project she’s contributed to my series to date, being the first (and realistically likely to remain only) originally-designed rapping character created specifically for my series. Long live Garnetstorm!

It felt really nostalgic to revisit the Yu-Gi-Oh franchise while making this; I’m really impressed that it’s apparently still running to this day, and from what sense I can make of it, the card game has grown absolutely out of control with its competitive mechanics over time, such that someone like me who was well-versed with its rules upwards of a decade ago is now clueless to the workings of the modern version. Like, seriously: what the actual fuck is a pendulum summon?

Gogeta was strongly considered for inclusion back when this was being written, but the problem was that both of his components are more prominent characters than himself and only form him on a few specific occasions, unlike the battle’s title characters whose fused forms are their primarily iconic ones. Ruby and Sapphire and Ronnie and Stein were conceived specifically to be Garnet and Firestorm, respectively, whereas Goku and Vegeta were obviously both around for many years before ever fusing.

Blue-Eyes, on the other hand, wasn’t held back from making the cut by any such problems on account of his identity being functionally the same as that shared by all three of his components, making him the ideal candidate for the third party since he’s effectively a single character yet is still an iconic example of a fusion.

Here’s to keeping the MERB ball rolling in 2021!
