Dagny Headcanon: Easter

Getting candy and painting eggs is fun and all, but what Dagny really looks forward to every Easter is the egg hunt that her mom sets-up for her. River waits until Dagny is asleep, and will go around the hideout that they're currently staying-in, hiding a number of plastic eggs around it for her to find in the morning. The kicker, though? None are directly in sight, and they all tend to be hidden in places that are quite challenging for the average child to find. But Dagny loves a good challenge, and enjoys it thoroughly, likening it as a precursor training of sorts to when she'll have to 'find' people as an assassin!

Especially finding the 'golden egg'. All of the eggs contain small things like candies and quarters, but the golden egg is the 'ultimate' prize, hidden in the hardest spot. This one usually contains a cool $20, or tickets to something she likes; or the best prize of all, one coupon to 'Request Almost Anything You Want from Mom'! Dagny usually uses this to get River to finally teach her 'assassin'-y things, like weak spots and even some moves to be used in order to bring down your enemies easier. Not that she can completely use them now but it's good info to stash away for when she's big!

Someday she'll convince her mom to do an egg hunt in their big warehouse hideout. She can't say 'it's too dangerous' forever, and Dagny knows there has to be a bunch of great places to hide eggs there!

Also,, what do you think happens to a naiad (or someone of naiad descent) when they stay out of water for too long? Do they get sick? Do they eventually die? Would only water heal them or could something else (eg. eating fish) at least "stabilize" them?

And how would rain affect them? Would they be able to spend more time out of water when it's raining? Or could they maybe even bend the rain to their will? Of course rain comes from the clouds/sky which is not in their domain,, but if the raindrops are low enough, could it work? :0

It's part of the reason why Penelope's smaller and has straight black hair :D As she was born a month early, it caught Periboea by surprise and she just went into the nearest creak :D (probably was mostly alone too)

It was calm at first before suddenly the current got fast and Penelope was swept away. Obviously terrifying. To say the least, some ducks brought her back :P (I really love the duck myth. It's neat and to have Penelope be associated with ducks while Helen is kind of associated with swans itches my brain just right >:D (Swans are bigger than ducks as well. like how I think of Helen and Penelope!) I like the thought of Odysseus "always thanking the ducks" whenever he sees them even while away. He gives them peas to eat and just gets happy when they fly overhead :'D

Penelope is a bit self-conscious about being born from a creek while her mom and most of her other siblings are from the river. (she's also the youngest and smaller.) Penelope was actually really worried about this and even kind of tried to not say that her water broke and was just like "hey, let's go here! No reason! :'D " because she wanted to get to the "better source of water" to give birth to Telemachus.

Odysseus: I can't believe you did that! >:( Penelope: HEy! Me and our son are fine!! The contractions didn't even start yet and we still made it to the river!!! And he'll be so strong, Odysseus! :D

Honestly they'd kind of "dry" out and just... really uncomfortable. I can imagine they kind of shed scales and just feel sick and unwell. Probably if you gave them a glass of water they'd rather dump it over their head :P Would eventually die if they don't get enough :'D If you marry a naiad-born person and don't have what they need, then you're a shit spouse. It is basically common knowledge, even for non-naiad born. Leda, for example, with Tyndarius, makes sure he has his "dips" in the water if she notices it's been a while or that he starts itching his skin. (Odysseus makes damn well sure she has enough water. Not only did he carve her a "nest" as a wedding bed, but he also has a pool with a canal that could go to the caves if she needed that's basically right outside their chamber :D Where she and Telemachus go a lot (especially during the suitors). He thought of EVERYTHING. It's seeing the bed and the pool where she realizes that this man truly loves her and that she loves him as well. She knew before that "she would be happy with him" and did love him but this is where she was hit with "omfg this is like the tales poets sing about. holy shit." )

Oh boy the RAIN >:)

Yes they can do SOOO much with it. It's actually a very joyous and playful time for most naiads and basically, everyone leaves their spots of water to just run around and play and dance. (and Helen and Pollux :P but uh...they do make it "sparky" so they only run around where there's no big body of water.) And it's actually another thing that naiads have over nereids as rain has no salt :P

It also helps with yeah, Helen and Pollux, as when these two get pretty emotional the clouds start to form. Helen likes to mess with people by giving them a "static shock" as it's funny and "minor". And she loves doing it to Penelope as she likes her reactions. When it rains or they're near water, Penelope kind of gets her revenge >:D (They love each other, they're just cousins)

Naiads usually feel pretty cold. like touching their skin is COLD #Someone else mentioned scales (sorry I can look back and see who you were) but yeah. that's really fun and cute. Not like bumpy scales #like the ones on snakes where they're really smooth and they honestly blend into skin very well. Was thinking about the Vargas sweets designs, and that one art style that's out there with the neon candy looking blood/'cute' horror stuff going on, and it became a WHOLE mental image, lol. so. vrisjade. not a ship i particularly know nor look for, but neither was jakeradia yknow i can find joy in anything! and they're no exception, i think i would give silly doggirl and her Will Bite You spider gf a nice pat on the head. looking at both their Um It's Complicated dating histories and raising an eyebrow..oh man would they need time, So much of it, but yknow when it culminates into vriska bullying her gamer gf into Drinking your goddamn w8er!!!!!!!! mid-cod game, and jade tackling vriska to the floor simply for the sake of it, that's goals tbh. think i might like them vacillating pitch. maybe? that's something i'll have to explore in content to figure out thinking face

there's something about the fact that vriska holds herself to a standard of being the one who Has Her Shit Together (lol. lmao even) and how she makes it a point to push the people she cares about to do the same, or at the very least if they're soooooooo inc8pable, leave it to her. cross that with jade "i have to keep everything together i have to do the things right i have to be the hero, i cannot fall apart, i have to get this Done" harley, you get something fascinating.

they're both so cripplingly lonely, one physically one emotionally (saying this loosely, they cross into each other in this aspect), and struggle heavily with vulnerability. vriska desperately wants to be heard, but more than that doesn't want to be seen as weak. jade just wants everything to be okay. have to be seen in a certain way, guiding lights, ugly messes beneath the brilliant glow. the sun and the stars. i think they should bite and maybe kill a little

oh man will they need a lot of time to work this out though. i think it could easily topple into something unsatisfying and painful for them both, it's like almost midnight i can't quite grasp why yet. but i think, if they love each other despite it, they will be able to find a way to be okay.

My D&D friends had a new person join us recently and nothing filled me with more joy than seeing said new person post Art she drew of our characters we played during our “Let’s meet the new person!” starter adventure this past weekend. Everyone looks perfect, and it’s wild to see how she successfully Filed The Serial Numbers Off for the 2/5s of us who just stole pop culture images for our Roll20 character tokens (I took a screenshot of chibi Oberon and another friend got Assigned The Joker By DM because clown). I keep scrolling back up to look at it in discord because seeing our characters in the Safety Conga Line we formed in-game to keep new person’s character from getting lost fills me with so much joy and makes me smile.

#for context we played some of the first part of the wild beyond the witchlight adventure module #because 1. new friend is also new to D&D and we're running some weenie baby oneshots and adventures #to teach her how to play the game and ease her into our main campaign #and 2. the minute i learned back in december that the module Exists i HAD to get me and my friends to play it #because it's all fairies and fey shit and i LOVE fairies and fey shit #i picked chibi oberon as a faceclaim because i wanted to play a fairy character because witchlight makes fairies playable #and Guy Who Got Assigned The Joker was playing a witchlight carnival hand who worked as a clown #and the thing is he wasn't even a Joker-type clown. he was a completely normal cheerful clown. #he was Extremely enthusiastic and would end all his sentences with 'honk honk! :0) #which made the whiplash of his token VS his actual characterization VERY funny #we used the Lost Things hook and the new person's character's Lost Thing was her sense of direction #and this manifested as her randomly declaring that she had Gotten Lost and teleported to a random spot on the map #so the safety conga line was a goofy way of keeping a hand on her so she wouldn't Get Lost #overall it was an Extremely fun time and i'm excited to keep playing that module with my pals. i love D&D night with my friends.
