Beehoven Hammerklavier & Moonlight Sonatas – Murray Perahia
Murray Perahia has spent a lot of time with Beethoven throughout his long and successful career. Still, it was only when he passed the 70-year mark that he felt ready to perform and record the “Hammerklavier” — a sonata which is something of the ultimate test of a pianist’s technique, stamina, and musical understanding.
An Unsentimental but Still Expressive Experience
In his recently released album, Perahia couples the Hammerklavier Sonata, op 106 with the Moonlight Sonata, op 27 no 2; the juxtaposition of these two very contrasting works seems to highlight just how limitless and groundbreaking Beethoven was as a composer for the piano. Add Perahia’s unsentimental yet expressive playing, and suddenly even the old Moonlight turns into something of a new experience.
“… his insights into the motivations behind the ‘Moonlight’ Sonata are absolutely remarkable. Here we find an Aeolian harp – or what Beethoven’s idea of one may have been – and some imaginative associations with nothing less than Romeo and Juliet.” — Jessica Duchen
A Fast and Thrilling Ride
The Hammerklavier can feel like an overwhelming structure to get lost in, but here it’s a thrilling ride, sweeping you along. Perahia’s tempos are fast, but the music never feels hurried, thanks to his faultless technique and tasteful rubato. The slow movement has calm, tenderness and poise but it never loses its sense of direction. The sound is warm, rich and resonant without obscuring the impressive clarity of articulation — just listen to the concluding fugue, which is a real feat of transparency.
Doubtless, it’s been worth the wait to hear Perahia in this repertoire!

Heed the call. This New Year’s Eve, plunge into HYTE’s spectacular 24 hour rave and start the decade anew.
New Years Eve is easily the most over-hyped night of the year. To date I am yet to hear any stories that actually match the preemptive emotional overload people give this holiday. I’ve never even gotten one of those famous New Years Eve kisses… It’s safe to say this date is all fart and no poo as the classic saying goes.

With that negativity out of the way, this NYE should actually live up to the hype because of HYTE NYE Berlin. Berlin’s famed former GDR broadcasting building, Funkhaus, will play host to a two floor mega rave featuring the likes of Ricardo Villalobos, Helena Hauff, Maceo Plex, Joseph Capriati, and Richie Hawtin – to name some of my favorites. Helena Hauff for one is bound to bring a destructive set. She is one of the best hard and fast techno DJs in the world right now.
Helena Hauff’s piercing gaze
Funkhaus is undoubtedly well stacked for the event featuring a fitting concrete warehouse for the main stage, an amazing pizza by the geniuses at Zola pizzeria, and even a crazy UFO house if you know where to look. The only thing I would suggest is, don’t forget the couches Hyte team! Your ravers will appreciate good seating areas to take breaks from the 24-hour showdown.
The Futuro House – Currently at Funkhaus
New Years Eve may have a bad record in my book but a night of Richie, Helena, and Ricardo back to back is hard to beat anywhere…. Happy New Year from us at We Own The Nite NYC we hope you have an amazing evening filled with great music, dancing, and friends!

Hello world! Miss You More is my second single and includes three tracks. A song, an instrumental version and a self-made rework, produced in Berlin at Funkhaus Nalepastraße, ex radio broadcasting organization for the German Democratic Republic (DDR).
While filming the main video, we had the idea to add some frames of me playing piano, so we moved in Superbudda, creative collective studio, former alcohol storage unit in Turin.
We never used any of those frames, the story was yet too intense by itself. This material has been on my hard disk for looong time and I finally decided it was time to show it. The images perfectly describe the original spark I had that night composing this music alone in my studio - it came out this intense video, third and last chapter of MYM.
