What did Caitriona say about Christian Bale after working with him?!
Dear Christian Bale Anon,
I just wrote 'notoriously difficult'. I never implied she said anything along those lines herself. But your OTT reaction immediately unmasked you, dear Stan Militia Anon.
It took me exactly 30 seconds to Google find the most interesting public statements she made about working with Bale and Damon on set:
Namely, a Sarina Bellissimo podcast for the Irish radio station Spin FM, on November 19, 2019:
This statement resumes it all - but it still makes for an interesting listen (has it been posted before? I suppose it must have, her Stans will post every single shred she ever uttered):
Tumblr media
Plus, on the very same day, an interview for Steven Weintraub's Collider (https://collider.com/caitriona-balfe-interview-ford-v-ferrari-outlander-season-5/), which reads along the same lines:
Tumblr media
And then, you have this:
youtube
Bale is mentioned around the 0:23 mark and I have to say, the contrast with all the rest of the interview is palpable. She is tense and a bit uneasy. Body language is a bitch, I know.
That being said, remember (LOL) these are public statements. What exactly did you want or expect her to say? And, if I may add, what exactly did you want or expect me to say, too?
Ignore your submission? Lie about it - and give you the opportunity to brownnose me in public?
You probably don't know me, Anon. Also, use your logic: she sounded very enthusiastic about her experience with him, on set - I'll give you this and again, this is absolutely polite, civilized, normal, expected (insert anything you want here, really). But it takes two to tango, don't you think?
Well...How about this cast Q&A at the Toronto International Film Festival's screening (September 10, 2019)? I think the real dynamic is showing and mind you: he never mentioned C, his screen wife. Who stood almost next to him, on stage: her expression is interesting to analyze, perhaps halfway between being starstruck and keeping a brave face:
youtube
Not a single time. And barely, if at all, in all the other interviews. And I am not very sure he even looks at her while she's talking (he isn't reacting to her infectious laughing, so long for the fish). This guy presents himself as a sociopathic boor.
Sidenote: funny thing that a new bride talks about the importance of marriage teamwork and mentions Ma and Pa. I rest my case.
Back to our topic, I have to say the Irish press didn't seem to like Bale at all. Irish Central, for example, is very kind to C, but less so to Bale (https://www.irishcentral.com/opinion/caitriona-balfe-ford-v-ferrari):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think I gave you enough attention for today. Now go take this answer elsewhere. On your own page (remember the address?) or as an Anon to the Amateur Eugenicist. She loves those slap-a-shipper, cheap gossip wares. She'll probably publish you.

PRESENTING ME AND @11x13kyle's FIRESIDE CHATS WITH KYLE AND ERIC AKA NICHE INTERNET MICROCELEBRITY AU:
cartman and kyle host a podcast called fireside chats with kyle and eric that’s basically just red scare, cartman is dasha and kyle is anna
they're constantly beefing with each other on twitter and some people are convinced it's staged to promote the show but kyle just hates cartman That Much
a majority of their listeners are just there for the occasional mention of their batshit childhood experiences amongst all the terrible political takes
like "umm i don't wanna hear this insane opinion on al gore i want to know more about how you guys swear that he tried to get you to help him kill manbearpig when you were 8"
fans wonder if these events are true or if they're enabling each other's schizophrenia
cartman is always saying the worst reactionary things while kyle's takes are deceptively normal until he hits them with one that makes listeners go hey WHAT?
kyle resents being called a reactionary but cartman LOVES it, wears the label like a badge of pride
there is CONSTANT discourse about whether or not cartman's antisemitism is ironic or not, with the reasoning "why would kyle be friends with him if it was genuine," and kyle regularly takes to twitter to say "IT IS NOT IRONIC."
kyle peaks the mic multiple times an ep yelling at cartman, says they'll edit it out in post, never gets cut because neither of them can edit
reddit posts go up are after every episode giving timestamp warnings for when kyle gets super loud
cartman has a christian music era, gets tradcath allegations and does little to discourage them
there are people who rpf ship kyman. cartman knows about this and tweets at fans asking them to send him fic recs
secretly jacks off to them
has a bit where he gives a shout out to his favorite kyman fic of the week and kyle breaks the mic every single time screaming at him
he posts unbelievably cringy "ironic" thirst traps to his instagram story at night and "ironic" drag pictures but the outfits and makeup are too good to be a joke
he also posts pictures of butters in bed with like bites on his neck to brag about getting hot tail but it's also just as unsexy
this is how he accidentally comes out, he was so distracted by the need to flex that he forgot he's still trying to beat the gay allegations
the "ironic" kyman fic jokes stop being funny
butters is adam friedland and kenny is the girl he cheated with
the butters show is cohosted with dougie and part of the alt right pipeline
stan is kyle's offline boyfriend in a B list rock band and wears fireside merch on stage sometimes
this includes the isis shirts which he swears up and down he didn't know were isis shirts
deeply apolitical by choice so whenever kyle talks to him about podcast stuff he nods along like whatever you say honey
he still listens to it he just tunes out of the political talk
the day his fans find out he's gay is the biggest day for them since his 2021 single hit the hot 100
everyone analyzing his old lyrics like oh my god. this was about a MAN. it all makes sense.
kenny is a twitter microceleb and socialite, much like with cartman controversy is part of the brand
gained thousands of followers over the butters cheating discourse
thirst tweets about kyle and they're secretly unironic
comes on fireside and rates youtubers he's slept with, kyle is disgusted and cartman is delighted
chapo trap house is craig and those guys

Another steam of consciousness on Mr Daniel Ricciardo and no sleep so apologies in advance if things are a bit scattered.
A little scared to post because tags have been intense.
Anyways....
Happy for Daniel. Everyone criticized him for taking a break last year (which he clearly needed) and not taking a Haas/Williams seat. People thought that he thought he was too good. Well, he's now taking a seat at the last place team, to rebuild and prove himself. He sees a pathway, but he's taking the step down in hopes for a long view move. He is a multiple race winner and probably could have retired but of course, unfinished business. Beauty of the sport. The comeback. He's allowed the chance to rebuild and is literally starting with a back marker team now and knows he has to prove himself. But now, people are pressed he is in a seat. Again, obviously Red Bull see something in him. If they weren't seeing some indication - based on Red Bull's history of being cutthroat - this wouldn't be a conversation. Even on that Simon Rennie/RB podcast, Simon mentioned not wanting to basically lie or hype Daniel up if the results weren't there. There's a trust there. Luckily, they saw something. They literally can't hire Daniel solely for markeing/PR. Does it help? Of course. Everyone has to find value wherever they can. There's only 20 seats people have to take their opportunities where they can.
Alpha Tauri is a junior team narrative. It was but they've obviously repeatedly put out there they're looking for a restructure with one experienced driver and one younger, and they're going to be using Red Bull parts. Two young drivers (unless you're a generational talent like MV) could very well result in little to no points and they're dead last right now. Haas had to bring back two experienced drivers to make up for the previous years of two young drivers. They need an injection of experience.
Pay Driver - He has not had a family member nor a huge corporation buy his way into the sport. He's built a career where people are interested in him - over 10 years - how can people find a way to penalize that? Again, he can't win. Just because he can pull in interest from huge sponsors - again, after years of building a career, that's just the business. If it was based on that person's definition alone - Lewis, Lando would also be pay drivers. But it isn't based on that factor alone. There's so many factors.
A lot of people deserve things, but this is a competitive sport, so nothing is ever guaranteed. Liam may very well deserve a spot on the grid, but you could also say he never would have had this opportunity if not for DR's accident. Also, if he’s as great as people think he is - I’m not too worried for him. People keep going back to Alex Albon's appendix causing the string of recent events but sometimes I think - this all wouldn't have happened if Daniel hadn't left Red Bull in first place lol. Maybe he'd still have his Red Bull seat now! I don't mean that in a he shouldn't have left, just that his leaving kind of caused a similar effect and gave all these other people opportunities lol. But again, that's not really how it works. They're making decisions based on today's circumstances. And now, he's come back but has to re-earn his spot. His leg up is Christian Horner supports him, but he still has to perform to get back. Just think it's funny people are acting like, there won't be hard work or there's no talent (again, drivers don't forget how to drive). It's complicated and impossible to identify who "deserves" a seat more or less. So many variables and impossible to be definitive (the way some people speak as if they know everything/must be right). Guess, we could argue forever which is what's entertaining. That said....
Professionalism/Kindness. While I think everyone knows that the way McLaren handled Daniel's exit was in poor taste, never once did Daniel complain or make excuses. He was professional and continues to be. The results weren't there. When he was fired (let go, released), he understood it. Acknowledged the results weren't there and this was part of the sport (I'll get into that NY Times article another time - but it was clearly not for a lack of trying). Daniel called Oscar Piastri to tell him no hard feelings. Wanted him to still have a positive start. Even Checo has been asked about Daniel "coming after his seat" and presumably under a lot of pressure for 2025 and his response was also professional and an understanding of the sport. He said Daniel's a friend and there are only 20 seats, there's no hard feelings. It's up to him (Checo) to perform. They all understand. Nobody inherently deserves or is guaranteed a seat. Wish some fans would understand. If the drivers aren't publically pressed about it themselves - maybe everyone just calm down. People are just so nasty, and without actually knowing all the information. Twitter/X is the worst. This should be fun, juicy, competitive but no need to bring hate or be nasty.
That's all for now🤷🏻‍♀️. As always, happy to discuss but please be kind (or funny).

i hate jubilee so much. when it comes to these types of vids they always invite christians and conservatives to speak on behalf of the anti trans side, desperately trying to paint gender criticals as bigots. they are so afraid to invite radfems because they know viewers would actually agree with us and back away from the gender ideology cult. you can see how biased jubilee was by the fact that when a conservative woman brought up a point they occasionally inserted subtitles referencing statistics that disproved her claims while doing none of that with the numerous unscientific claims of the trans women in the room. pure propaganda.
while some of the conservative women’s arguments against trans ideology were decent, they failed to address a lot of important stuff such as sex based oppression, gender as an oppressive tool and were also being somewhat homophobic. the christian girl saying trans people are delusional and then talking about god in the same breath was so funny. i was kind of vibing with the well spoken girl whose name is amala but i looked up her podcast and she has some bigoted views and kisses men’s asses. overall a bad representation for gender criticals, which was clearly intentional.

In honor of my nth W359 relisten, here is the breakdown of how I accidentally independently headcanoned most of the characters as Catholic:
Eiffel: He was born in Boston, where Catholics are the largest religious population. I've been told the Lord's Prayer he mumbles is the Protestant version, but that prayer is used a lot in Alcoholics Anonymous, which is probably where he's remembering it from. Perhaps his issues with authority stem in part from having to go to Catholic school.
Minkowski: Her father's surname is Jewish, while her mother is French, where the dominant religion is Catholicism. I envision her as growing up in a mixed household (which I believe is also the case for her VA) but she leans harder into celebrating Christian holidays on the station as part of her attempt to assimilate into white bread apple pie Americanism. After the events of the show I like to think she reconnects more with her Jewish heritage, especially as she could relate to the theme of so many holidays being 'they tried to kill us, they failed, let's eat'.
Hera: Hera quotes St. Augustine, quotes the Bible to Maxwell in Memoria, and says "amen" during the funeral despite never being exposed to religious services. Conclusion? She had Catholicism installed in her to nerf her. Why? Because Pryce is also Catholic. More on that later.
Lovelace: I hc Lovelace as having a Puerto Rican mom. Puerto Rico is heavily Catholic. (Her dad is probably Protestant, but when it came to parents from different denominations choosing which to raise their kid(s) in, my mom won for us, so I shall assume her mom won as well. It's possible she also went to a private Catholic school. She may not have considered herself very religious at the start of her mission, but I think about her leaning on hopes of an afterlife when her crewmates start dying as a scrap of comfort.... only to be forced to contemplate the state of her soul later.
Cutter: It was at this point that I realized I was hcing a whole bunch of the characters as Catholic and decided to lean into it. Luckily for me, he's from Carmel-by-the-sea, which is in fact fairly Catholic due to the presence of a historic Catholic mission. (Did I know this because of a probably Buffy-inspired YA paranormal series I read in high school? Maybe.)
Pryce: Again, was leaning into it at this point, but also it makes sense. She was raised in an orphanage, and a lot of those institutions were run by religious organizations. How many of her problems can be traced back to being raised by nuns. She quotes the Bible to position herself as divine. Why Catholicism specifically? The cannibalism. It's all coming together.
Non-Catholics (Hilbert + the Midwestern Corporate Hit Squad):
Hilbert: Grew up in the USSR. Likely not religious.
Maxwell: Her father was a pastor in Montana, where the biggest Christian denomination is Evangelical. Likely ex-Evangelical. Sorry that happened to you Alana.
Jacobi: His name is Jewish, which is supported by his disdain for office holiday parties and ordering Chinese food on Christmas. Catholics are the dominant religious group in Milwaukee though so he gets to the station and goes ah not this shit again.
Kepler: I do not care about him and thus have not spent much time thinking about him, but probably not religious. When he is trying to turn everyone against Lovelace, he doesn't appeal to religious language while dehumanizing her. There are quite a lot of Catholics in Chicago though so he is also used to them.
What's funny about this is I'm not even Catholic. I did not start out doing this on purpose. Somehow Wolf 359 is a more Catholic podcast than Greater Boston, set in Boston, where the character who talks about religion the most is a Protestant.

Last night I got off the most disheartening phone call with a friend I've known since we were pre-teens and my ex-husband on three way. The friend is who introduced me to my ex-husband. We chatted it up for a good while.
⚠️⚠️Trigger warning⚠️⚠️
Anti-lgbtqia+ hate speech below the cut.
Then somehow the subject of gay and trans people came up. I thought I knew where my ex-husband stood because we used to talk about it when our kids were little. I thought he supported LGTBQIA+. The friend was getting sentimental, and my ex called him gay. Which was weird since my ex is very much in touch with his softer side and can be very expressive and passionate about his feelings. So, although I know it was a joke, I didn't think it was funny. The friend said [[his name redacted]] is not gay! I may be a lot of things but I ain't no [[explicit]]. I said, "even if you were gay, we would still have mad love for you." He again reiterates. "I ain't no muh fukkin' [[redacted]]" My ex says, "Bruh, chill out with all that. Gay people are cool." Then says, "I have gay family members and if my kids came out gay, I'd still love them anyway." Friend says "Nah nigga fuck that shit. I'd rather my son be dead then gay." My heart broke!! Then he proceeds to give a weak ass strawman argument as to they (whoever "they" is...) are trying to shove this agenda down our throats. I felt like I was teleported into a podcast full of hoteps and incels. I said, "I am pro LGBTQIA+ so I'm going to need you to shut the fuck up." Here is where it really took a turn for the worst. My ex-husband who I love dearly as a friend and co-parent partner says, "But I can't get with them trans muh fukkas. I gotta draw the line there." My heart was beating so fast at this point. I started pacing the floor. I mean I gave them the whole speech about using talking points of white supremist. Then old friend says, "Yo, Ant aren't you a Christian? How can you be for these people?" I gave him historical teaching points on how the same stuff they say about them they said about black people. I mean I went in. As a theologian and ordain minister I pulled out doctrine in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek text. At one point they both said something about sounding like I went to college and like a black activist etc. COMPLETLY MISSING ALL THE FUCKING POINTS!!! I'm so disappointed in my ex-husband. However, the old friend I can go another decade without hearing from him again.
I talk to my ex at least twice a week. Sometimes with his current wife on the phone as well. We love them damn kids but we're also like I said, "good friends". We vacation together and everything, but now I don't know how to move forward knowing he's transphobic. Is this how white ally's feel when they have family members who are racist? He has called a few times and I ignored because I'm still upset. The kids say, "dad has been trying to reach you, why haven't you called him back?"
I'm sharing this because I don't know who else to have this kind of discussion with. I'm probably the most if not only progressive in my family. Everyone else is mostly indifferent because they have no skin in the fight and then there are the boomers so...🙄

I really like David Guzik; I know him personally from when I completed my Theology degree. I am not a Calvinist, but I go to a Calvinist church and read/listen to probably 90% of Calvinist theologians. I consider myself a follower of Christ: not a follower of another human such as John Calvin. I follow Christ, not Calvin, so I do not call myself a Calvinist but a Christian. I think words matter and my identity is in Christ and not in a human. When people ask my denomination, I would say non-denominational with a lean towards Reformed theology, but the mouthful would be: a Bible-believing, Spirit-filled, born-again follower of Christ (by the grace of God).
For theological podcasts, I listen to a staunch Calvinist, James White. His takes on culture are spot on, though oft heated, but flawless for the most part in the sense of discernment. I also met James in person and he's a great man and someone I like the personality of and even find funny. I love John MacArthur, probably my favorite modern-day pastor. I love my pastor who is a Calvinist. Some of the "best men" and theologians I know of ever are Calvinist. To me it comes down to this: is the Word of God being taught? The whole counsel (Acts 20:27), not just cherry-picked topical messages and Jesus is my guru. No, He is Lord and King and His Word is to be taught, embraced, and obeyed.

Before talking about why he disagrees with the paster he’s responding to, he makes a point of finding something nice to say about the person (“Your beard is cool – baby birds could nest in that thing!”), which I think it’s a neat and unique approach. He doesn’t have a lot of videos yet but give it time. :)

As someone who enjoys both Camp Here and There and We Know the Devil, I NEED to know your thoughts on how Sydney and Venus are opposites (if you would like to infodump/elaborate)
okay so. Disclaimer- when I say they are opposites, I do not mean that in the narrative foil way. I mean that in a “if you were to compare their stats on a wiki they’d be on opposite sides of the spectrum” way. Regardless, I’m happy you asked!! first off, Venus and Sydney stood out to me as being comparable bc of the setting they have in common (strange summer camp) and also just the way they’re perceived by their respective audiences.
Like for example, one of the most intriguing things to me about Venus is her character design. I’ve watched a lot of playthroughs of WKTD and I keep seeing a pattern, where people will glance at Venus, label her as feminine, go “wait a second no” when she’s misgendered by the narrative, and then “correct” themselves while still assigning Venus traits like having a higher voice than either Neptune or Jupiter, etc. for this reason, I like to say that people know that she’s trans subconsciously, even if they went into the story with no intention of supporting a trans character. And it’s especially funny to me, because throughout nearly the entire game, Venus is a giant egg, and although her possibly not being cis is alluded to by Neptune and Jupiter, she herself has no idea she’s a girl until the devil possesses (?) her in 2/4 of the endings.
Sydney, on the other hand, is the exact opposite. This is probably on me, but it took me a week of listening to the podcast (and going on the wiki to find Sydney’s profile) to realize that Sydney was a guy. And unlike Venus, Sydney is out and proud about his own identity, to the point that he doesn’t conform to male gender roles at all (which is absolutely fire of him and I think it’s really good representation.) While nearly everything about Venus’s character design screams that she’s a girl except for the pronouns people use for her for most of the game, nearly everything about Sydney except for his pronouns doesn’t fit what the traditional idea of a guy is. Both of them don’t fit society’s expectations of them, but in completely different ways.
Then there’s the matter of how religious themes are handled. WKTD of course is famous for its religious themes- and while there’s no mention of Jesus as far as I can tell, the main conflict in the game is the possibility of being the devil. In 2/4 endings, Venus is the devil, as reconition of your own suppressed thoughts that go against society and religious rules (aka being queer) is what the devil is. In 1/4 endings, Venus is cast out, and once her identity is seen, it is abruptly stripped away from her, due to it being completely vilified in the oppressive environment of the summer camp.
Sydney, however, is thematically Jesus. CHNT doesn’t have many religious themes on the surface, but the way Sydney is treated narratively lines up with Christianity’s story of Jesus. He dies, gets revived, is praised as a messiah and “muse” when he doesn’t want to be, and then is almost sacrificed. You could say that the elephant man has built a religion around him. His trans ness is not inherently built into this arc though, as it focuses more on disability and ableism and the way people want him to be vs how he actually is and what he needs.
there’s also some very basic stuff, like the fact that Sydney is into exclusively guys, and Venus is (I think??) into exclusively girls, and the differences in their personality, like Sydney’s exhausted and desperate pessimism vs Venus’s nervous and unintentionally mean optimism. While Sydney puts up a front of bright cheerfulness and confidence, Venus puts up a front of being a doormat, etc. You could also say their respective medias are opposites, as Venus is from a medium that primarily focuses on sight, while Sydney is from a medium that primarily focuses on audio. They are also in opposite roles, one being a counselor and one being a camper, although one could say they have similar levels of power over their environment as Sydney is essentially trapped in the camp due to having to depend on Lucille and her ableism.
That being said, I unapologetically love both of these characters, and I can and will analyze them for days. OH one more thing I forgot- while Sydney tends to assume that the people around him hate him or don’t want to be around him when needing to interpret people’s actions, Venus tends to assume the best of people as a coping mechanism. Okay that’s it. Thank you for the ask!!
