Letting You Go
Pairing: Fred Weasley x Fem!Reader
Warnings: None really, swearing at one point
A/N: LOVED this idea too, it’s not as angsty in the beginning as I originally planned but I think it still gets the point across. Also, I wasn’t sure what type of dynamic you wanted with Adrian, so I made it to where he can be seen as a potential love interest but more so he just has a big crush on you. I hope you enjoy! I would love to hear your feedback if you care to share it! Thank you for the request, darling!!

You felt yourself absolutely crumbling at the sight of what was happening in front of you. You and Fred found yourselves in the midst of what had been your biggest fight yet, all beginning with a stupid stereotypical house rivalry coming to life.
Throughout the midst of your last year, some of the people who you held most dear started to question your character due to the simple fact that you were a Slytherin as was the entirety of your family before you. Because of everything happening outside of the walls of the heart that once was Hogwarts, the entire student body found themselves on edge turning against one another. With newly found rumors of people's parents and loved ones following the Dark Lord, it was only a matter of time before you found yourself under interrogation from the people whom you thought were your friends. While you understood that the suspicion came from a place of fear, it still hurt to know that after all the time spent opening yourself up to the people you called friends, you were still looked at like the monster everyone claimed you to be at the start. However, you had never suspected that your own boyfriend would eventually become one of them.
At this point, the two of you couldn't even remember what triggered the argument in the first place. All you knew at that moment was that you were absolutely raging and seeing red with every sly comment he threw back at you. You both knew in the back of your minds that you should step away and give each other space as you’d done many times before, but with all the tension and frustration from outside extremities as of lately, you both decided to unleash your fury on one another. A decision you would later come to regret as you spit out in a fit of rage,
"I'll go ahead and make this a whole lot easier for you. I would hate for you to be seen with me as I'm so fucking awful."
"Easier for me? More like the easy way out for you Y/N. Sneaking away like the coward you are, just like your stupid little friends and just like your family." He spitefully retorted knowing that those words would cut you deeper than any he's spoken before.
With that, you grabbed the few belongings you had with you and headed towards the door. There was a small part inside of you hoping that he would say something, anything, to try and get you to stay, but the part wanted nothing more than to never see him again. You turned your head back one last time to see Fred standing there with a face almost as red as his hair to see if he might say anything else, but nothing. He just stared at you, his dark brown eyes filled with resentment and overwhelming hostility which is what broke your heart more than any of the previous words and accusations that were strewn at you just before.
"You're a pathetic excuse of a man, you know that?" You said as your voice shook not with anger this time, but rather an aching heart.
He didn't fight for you. He didn't try to make you stay. He let you go, a decision that he would come to regret as time went on.
Fred hadn't actually spoken to you since that night. Not only had you distanced yourself and shot down every attempt of his for reconciliation for the remainder of your time at Hogwarts, but he hadn't seen you since the end of the battle. Even as much as he wanted to come up to you after watching you ever-so valiantly fighting alongside everyone for the school you all held so dear, he knew that it wasn't the right time. That said, there never was a right time because after that dreaded day he never saw or heard from you again.
That was until today.
You found yourself spending the day with your best friend, Adrian Pucey, amongst all the witches and wizards in Diagon Alley. After the war, you two grew very close as he was one of the few housemates who stood with you against some of your closest friends and family during the battle. After everything happened, you found that you two had developed a bond like no other and you found a gentle solace in one another’s presence. While you weren't together in that way, you knew that Adrian has had a crush on you since literally your fourth year at Hogwarts. That said, there was a part of you that was intrigued by the idea, but you couldn't seem to stop comparing any man you'd met to the one and only, Fred Weasley. As much as you hated to admit it, Adrian knew it as well, but he was determined to remain close to you in any way he could. If that meant just being your closest confidant, then so be it.
As you walked through the alley, you saw groups of young witches and wizards piling into a shop in front of you. You immediately recognized the giant redheaded animatronic plastered on the front of the building and realized it was the joke shop in which Fred and George had spoken so much about during their last year. The thought of their success made a small part of your heart fill with utter delight for the boys. You knew how much time and effort they put into the foundations of this place and to finally see it in full bloom was a sight you weren't sure if you'd ever get the chance to see.
Adrian watched as you eyed the shop up and down. "Do you want to go in?" he asked, ripping you away from your tender thoughts.
"What? No, don't be stupid," you say in a joking manner as you continue walking up the alley. In reality, there was a small nostalgic part of you aching to go in and see what the store entailed but you knew that if Fred or George happened to see you that it would just cause a mess you weren't prepared to deal with.
Adrian eyed your facial expressions and instantly knew what was happening in your mind and without further thought, he grabbed your hand and started walking towards the shop.
"Oh, come on. We’ll get a quick peek and head out," he spoke as he practically dragged you into the store.
Upon walking into the store you were absolutely enchanted by all of the excitement flooding your senses. Everywhere you looked there was something flying across your face, children running and laughing with their friends, and curious little faces pressed against some sort of glass to see the products in action. You immediately felt a surge of comfort as you were reminded of the memories with Fred and George showing you their newest inventions that just had to be sold at the shop.
"Wow," was all that you could get out at that moment. The entire atmosphere made the child-like wonder consume you once more as you stared with wide eyes and a smile falling from your wide opened mouth in utter amazement.
That's when he saw you.
From the top of the stairs with George next to him occupied with the prior conversation they were having. He couldn't believe his eyes as he watched you walk in through the store, his store, after not seeing you in so long. He quickly diverted his attention from the conversation he had just been having seconds ago to admire your figure grazing through the crowd beneath him. Although it had been so long since you last spoke, he still remained absolutely entranced by you.
Surprisingly, he couldn't help but feel what he believed to be jealousy as he saw Adrian whisper something in your ear and walk off to browse the shop for himself. He watched the way your face flushed a shade of pink at his words and the way you gave his arm a playful slap as feelings from the past flooded back through his veins. Little did he know that the interaction between you two was Adrian making you aware of Fred's observing gaze at the top of the stairs by telling you that there was an oversized ginger admirer making googly-eyes at you.
"Well go on then. If you're not going to talk to her then I just might," George teases as he leans on the second-floor railing quickly pinpointing where Fred's attention has fixated to.
Fred averts from his previous gaze and shoots him a look that can only be interpreted as mixed with nerves and a hint of jealousy. "She's got Pucey all over her, why even bother?" he shoots back instinctively.
"Now if she were really with him, do you reckon she'd be staring at you like that?" George nods in your direction with a grin as a nervous and hopeful look spreads across Fred’s face. He immediately turns his head and meets a pair of glistening y/e/c eyes peering up at him with a soft timid smile on your face. You gently wiggle your fingers to say hello to the twins as Fred makes his way down the stairs to where you're standing.
"Hi," you let out just barely above a whisper as you begin to feel the nerves shooting through your body just as you had in the alley before.
"Hi," he says as he flashes you one of his famous Fred Weasley smiles. While he appears confident as ever, you can feel the nerve-racking sparks zipping between the two of you right now. You each felt as if your hearts were about to jump out of your chests straight onto the shop floor at the near sight of one another. You stood there for a second not saying anything at all, more so just speaking as you stared into each other's eyes for a few moments.
"You're looking fit as ever. I like what you’ve done with your hair. Looks gorgeous," he lets out as he brings his large hand to move a strand out of your face to tuck it behind your ear. With that, you feel a warm blush creep up from your neck to your cheeks.
"Thank you," you say with a smile looking down a bit as you let out a breath that you weren't entirely aware you were holding. "The shop is .. amazing Fred. You guys really did it."
"Took loads of time and far more brainpower than I care to use, but thank you," he grins back down at your smaller figure standing in front of him, trying to scan his brain for the right words to say. You two stand there in a silence that spoke louder than the hustle and bustle of the shop around you. At that moment, after collecting yourselves, you each work up the courage to open your mouths to speak.
"Listen Y/N," you both start at the same time and then quickly go to stop yourselves.
"Oh! You go. No, go ahead," you say in unison once more leading to a fit of giggles amongst the two of you.
And just like that, you two found yourselves in your own little world apart from all of the commotion around you. All you could focus on at that moment was how the feeling of seeing those deep brown eyes staring down at you again made you want him in his entirety again. Fred's heart mimicked the feelings of your own and amplified his deep desire to call you his again. He had the woman whom he'd loved for so many years standing in front of him once more, and he was not going to let this opportunity pass him up as it had in the past.
"Say, what do you think about going to dinner with me tonight once we close up shop? You know, just to catch up. I realize it's last minute, but I can't tell you how much I've missed hearing that darling laugh of yours," he blurts out without completely even realizing what he's said.
You take a minute to collect yourself pretending as if you're pondering the idea as Fred watches you with hopeful eyes.
"I'd love to Freddie," you say as the childhood nickname slips off of your tongue.
While the feelings and issues of the past haven't entirely been erased from your memories, you two knew this was a chance for redemption to make up for everything that was said between the two of you as teenagers. He had finally gotten you back.
And he wasn't going to let you go this time.
